AN: So I had literally nothing to do at work tonight, and none of my stuff to study with, so I cranked out this next chapter! Hope you all enjoy! Drop a review and thanks for everything! Some more COREK flashbacks! Happy reading lovelies!

The strands in your eyes that color them wonderful
Stop me and steal my breath
Emeralds from mountains and thrust towards the sky
Never revealing their depth
Tell me that we belong together
Dress it up with the trappings of love
I'll be captivated, I'll hang from your lips
Instead of the gallows of heartache that hang from above

I'll be your cryin' shoulder
I'll be love suicide
I'll be better when I'm older
I'll be the greatest fan of your life

-I'll Be by Edwin McCain

Derek and I were in the driveway of my house playing basketball, freshman year was starting tomorrow and Derek planned on trying out for the team.

"Tell me again why you couldn't practice with Peter?" I asked standing in the middle of the driveway sweat dripping down my face and trying to catch my breath.

"Because I need to practice with someone human since that's who I'll be playing against. If I practice with Peter all the time I'll get even better and then I might as well just play by myself, because no one will hold a candle to me." Derek responded with a cocky smirk on his face. I rolled my eyes, but perked up at the sound of a car pulling into the driveway. My mom was supposed to be home from her hunt today to help get things ready for my birthday next weekend. I was going to be 14.

Derek and I exchanged confused looks however when a sheriff car pulled in instead of my mom. I turned hearing the front door close and saw my dad walking down to stand next to me.

"What'd you do now, kid?" My dad asked with an amused smile on his face. I scowled at Derek as he laughed at my father's joke.

"Nothing! I've been on my best behavior." My dad snorted.

"You told me you were going to be on your best behavior the day you choke slammed that poor kid at the park." I scoffed.

"He was 15 and he was picking on Scott!" My dad laughed and placed a hand on my head ruffling my hair. The sheriff's deputy stepped out of the car and headed towards us. I recognized him as my nephew Scott's friend's dad. Ironically he was also the one that brought me home from the park on the day my dad was referring to.

As Deputy Stilinski approached he sent a small smile to Derek and I.

"Noah." My dad greeted reaching out a hand to shake Noah's.

"Hey Jake. I uh." He glanced at Derek and I causing me to narrow my eyes. "Why don't you step this way so I can talk to you really quick." My dad glanced to me and then to Derek. He sighed.

"You might as well just tell me right here. These two have a way of finding things out whether you want them to or not." I smirked at Derek, it paid to have a best friend with super hearing. The deputy sighed.

"Alright. I'm really sorry to have to do this, but I wanted you to hear it from me seeing as our families are close." A knot began to form in my stomach at the man's tone of voice.

"There was an accident just inside the county line." My heart dropped and my hands began to shake. I felt Derek grab ahold of my hand and I squeezed clinging to it for dear life.

"What happened?" My dad asked voice hard.

"We're not sure. It appears as if she lost control or maybe fell asleep, but she ran off the road and hit a telephone pole. When the wires dropped, they sparked a fire in the tank. The body was burned beyond recognition, but her ID and such were untouched in the glove box. I'm sorry Jake, but Tonya's passed."

I'm not really sure what happened after that. I remember hearing screaming, which I later learned was my own. I also remember arms holding me tightly as I thrashed about, two voices trying to calm me down, but I was inconsolable.

My mother was dead.

Uncle Bobby flew in the next day and things began to be arranged. They cremated the body, in true hunter fashion and we held a memorial four days later. Derek didn't leave my side for any of it, other than to go home every so often and freshen up and check in with his mother, and when Derek was gone, Laura was there.

On the day of the memorial I was more of a zombie than the days leading up to it. I wouldn't eat. I wouldn't talk, I couldn't even cry. There was a numb settling over me that scared me just as much as I welcomed it.

Derek and Laura were at their house getting ready, I was in my room staring at myself in the mirror trying to work up the courage to go downstairs. I could hear footsteps heading my way, but I didn't even turn to look at who was standing in the doorway.

"Why don't you come downstairs Cor? Your sister just got here." Dean voice drifted to me. I shrugged. He entered the room fully and placed a hand on my shoulder.

"I know it's tough, but you're a strong kid. The pain won't go away, but it will get easier with time." I looked up to the boy. He had just turned 18 recently.

"I don't want to forget her." I mumbled. He sent me a soft reassuring smile.

"You won't, I promise." I nodded and stood slowly. He held a hand out to me and I intertwined my fingers with his as we left the room. I didn't let go until we got to the funeral home and I spotted Derek.

Our eyes locked and I let go of Dean finally. I rushed forward and threw myself into the arms of my best friend the numbness finally breaking and the tears began rolling down my face. Derek held me tightly.

"I'm here, C. I'll always be here." He whispered into my hair.

Dean and Sam

Dean's fists clenched tightly against the steering wheel as he maneuvered the impala down the streets of town. Sam glanced worriedly at his brother, unsure of how this was going to go.

Dean parked the impala in front of the large house. He opened the door and slammed it stalking up to the door, San following quickly behind. There was only once car parked in the driveway, a red SUV and a light on in what appeared to be the main hall.

Dean's fist pounded on the door angrily. The pounding continued for few minutes before the door was pull open and Chris Argent stood before them, his wife a few feet behind. Dean didn't wait for Chris to speak before he grabbed him by the front of his jacket and slammed him against the door. The wife made to rush forward, but was stopped by the sight of Sam holding a gun out towards her.

"Where is she?" Dean ground out. Chris gave him a confused look.

"Where is who?" Dean scoffed.

"Don't play dumb with me. Cora. Where is Cora? You know cute crazy little brunette, has a burning hate for your sister." Dean snapped. Chris rolled his eyes.

"I have no idea."

"Really? Cause we just came back from the Hale House looking for her. The place is shot to shit, and from the casings it looks like an assault rifle that did it. The only hunters I know that use those are you dicks."

"I didn't send anyone out to the Hale House." Dean eyed the man for a moment, before letting him go.

"Hmm. Maybe you got a rouge on your hands. Let your sister know we're looking for her, and that if we don't get Cora back alive, there isn't any place she'll be able to hide."

Dean turned from the house and headed back to the impala Sam hot on his heels. The ride back to Cora's apartment was silent, both boys worried about Cora. As Dean parked the impala Sam turned to him.

"What do we do now?" Dean sighed and rubbed a hand down his face.

"We'll-" Dean's response was cut off by a voice from the backseat.

"Nothing. You'll do nothing." The brother's jumped in their seats and spun around. They glared at the angel in a trench coat.

"Jesus Christ Cas!" Dean exclaimed in irritation. "We've talked about this."

"What do you mean we'll do nothing?" Sam asked in confusion.

"The Cavanaugh/Hale destiny is one that needs to come to pass. And I won't let you tamper with it." Castiel stated before placing a hand on each of the brother's shoulders. Then the car was empty.

I groaned as I finally re-entered consciousness.

"Cora? Cora!" Derek's voice drifted to me along with the sound of rattling chains. I opened my eyes and let out another groan blinking rapidly trying to take in my surrounding.

I was in what appeared to be an underground cellar, if the dirty smelly appearance was anything to go by. it looked vaguely familiar, leading me to believe we were in the Hale property cellars.

"Cora." Derek called out to me again and I turned my head towards him. I sucked in a breath at the sight of him. He was chained up to a metal fence like contraption and there was a patch on his stomach attached to some wires.

"Well shit D. Looks like we got ourselves in a bit of a jam." I raised out, voice hoarse from unuse. Derek breathed out a sigh of relief at the sound of my voice.

"Ugh. How long have I been out?" I asked trying to adjust myself in the chair that I was strapped down to.

"Probably about 12 hours." I let out a low whistle and cracked my neck.

"They must've smacked me good. What have I missed?"

"Well, Kate brought Allison in, gave her a show and tell on werewolves. Other than that, she's been in and out waiting for you to wake up I'm assuming." I nodded.

"Figures. She's probably going to try to use us against each other." Derek's face softened after a moment.

"I'm sorry. About that night at the school about walking away I shouldn-" I cut him off.

"Babe, we got our whole lives to figure that shit out. I'd really rather not hash this out here."

"You don't know that C. There's a good chance we're not going to make it out of this and I just- I just want you to know that I'm sorry and that if we do make it out of this I won't do anything like that again. No matter what it is, I'll always choose you." I snorted and Derek shot me a confused look.

"I wasn't pissed at you because you chose revenge over me. I was pissed because you sided with the dickwad that killed your sister to get revenge. If you would've asked I would've followed you right onto that revenge train."

"He didn't mean to." Derek mumbled, I could tell he barely believed himself.

"It's a good thing you've got your looks D. Cause if you really believe that, you're the dumbest person I know babe."

It felt like hours later before Kate finally showed her skanky ass face. I smiled at her as she walked in.

"Ahh there she is! About time you showed up! How's the arm?" I asked with a smirk. Kate scowled at me and walked towards me. She dropped a fist heavily on my cast. The jolt it caused causing me to grit my teeth to keep from crying out. Stupid bitch.

"Probably doing better than yours." She told me in a sickly-sweet voice. Derek let out a growl from across the room and Kate smirked. I scowled at Derek, reacting is exactly what they want us to do.

Alright you remember that when she come over and starts screwing with me. I heard his voice snap at me in my head. I jumped slightly and Kate quirked an eyebrow at me in confusion. I hadn't been expecting to be able to hear Derek. The adrenaline wasn't pumping that much and we hadn't been able to do it without that or contact yet.

"Now, as much as I would love to keep up this fun, I'm really just hear to find out what you know about the Alpha. So, Derek, who is he?" Derek just stared at her not saying a word and she walked over to the different things laid out across the table. The things including my phone and Derek's, along with our wallets.

"Come on, Derek. He killed your sister. Now - either you're not telling me because, well, you want to kill him yourself, or for some reason - You're protecting him." She grabbed Derek's ID out of his wallet and walked towards him holding the small card up next to his face.

"Look at that sour face. I bet you always used to get people coming up to you saying, "Smile, Derek." "Why don't you smile more?" Don't you just wanna - kick those people in the face?"" I snorted at Derek's response.

"I can think of one."

"Promise? cause if I thought you'd be that much fun - I'd let you go." She walked back and started going through Derek's phone.

"All right, let's see. Nothing, nothing, nothing. God, I hate this detective crap."

"God you just love the sound of your own voice, don't ya?" I asked. Kate turned to me and smirked.

"Oh, don't worry, Cora. I haven't forgotten about you." She waved my phone at me and clicked it open. "Would you look at that three missed calls from a one Dean Winchester. You know, one of the boys told me he saw him coming out of your apartment the other morning. I told him he was crazy, you wouldn't be the kind of girl to cheat on your new boo with your old boo. Maybe I was wrong though." I could feel a curiosity burning through Derek that was verging on panic. I rolled my eyes.

"You're so full of shit. My mating mark is on full display, you know damn well there is no way I cheated on Derek." Kate smirked and shrugged, I could feel relief flood through Derek.

"Are you gonna torture me - Or are you just gonna talk me to death, huh?" Derek piped up. Kate smirked as she turned to him.

"Oh, sweetie, I don't - I don't wanna torture you. I just - wanna catch up. Remember all the fun we had together?" She said as she made her way over to my mate and I scowled at the tone in her voice.

"Like the time, you burned my family alive?" Derek quipped.

"No, I was thinking more about the - hot, crazy sex we had. But the fire thing. Yeah, that was fun too. I love how much you hate me. Remember how this felt?" Kate responded. I began struggling against my bonds, a burning rage washing over me, fueled by the rage that also began to burn through Derek as she licked up his stomach once she was done speaking. Derek let out a loud roar in her face as I began yelling.

"Get the fuck away from him you skanky bitch." I snarled. Kate smirked as the door to the cellar opened, and there in the doorway stood the douche I had knocked on his ass at the gas station all those weeks ago. I groaned.

"Sweetheart, I really don't want to torture you. But he wants to torture your girlfriend." The bald man made his way over to me and smirked down at me. I rolled my eyes. His hand came up and a strong punched landed against the side of my face. I smirked as I spit out some blood. Derek growling and thrashing against the chains in the background.

"My dead great grandmother hits harder than that." I told him spitting out another bit of blood, this time however, I made sure it landed on his face. The next three punches were directly to my stomach knocking all the breath out of me.

"Are you ready to talk yet?" Kate asked. I nodded my head weakly, and spoke out in a soft voice. Kate came closer and I lifted my head up as if I was going to speak, but instead I head butted her straight in the nose. I smirked as she cussed, I had heard the cartilage snap and could see the blood rushing out from her nose. She ripped off her shirt and held it to her nose glaring angrily at me.

"You're the stupidest bitch, I've ever met." She told me taking a step back towards me. I laughed.

"Guess you've never met yourself then." I bit out, before I was once again knocked into unconsciousness. So, worth it.

Heavy metal poured through the speakers of the garage as I angrily laid into the punching bag in front of me. Memories of my argument with Derek from the week before floating through my mind. I roundhoused the punching bag before throwing a series of angry punches at it.

"Stupid fucking Derek. Stupid fucking Argent." I mumbled out angrily. I spun around quickly and glared at my dad as my music was turned down.

"Why don't you just go talk to him?" He questioned. I rolled my eyes and turned back to the punching bag.

"Because he's a dick." I snapped throwing another punch. My father's reply was cut off as we turned to the driveway at the sound of a car pulling into the driveway.

"Now what'd you do?" He asked with a quirked eyebrow.

"Nothing." I responded with a shrug. He scoffed.

"That's what you said when you spray painted "cocky douche" on that student teacher Harris' car." I snickered at the memory.

"He was being a cocky douche." I said in defense of myself.

"You're going to make all my hair fall out kid. I tell ya what." I gave him an innocent smile.

"No idea what you're talking about pops. I'm a fucking joy to raise." He snorted as we headed out to the car to meet with the police officer. It was Stilinski. I smiled at him, until he opened the back door and out climbed Derek and Laura.

Both siblings looked extremely downtrodden and seemed to have been crying recently.

"What's going on?" I asked looking between the three-people standing before me.

"There was a fire. Everyone's gone." Laura answered before the deputy could get a word out. My heart dropped and tears welled up in my eyes.

"What?" I choked out. I didn't get a response as Laura's legs began to give out and Derek had to reach out and catch her. I moved quickly rushing to my friends and grabbing a hold of Laura.

"Cora. Take them inside. I'll be in, in a few minutes." I nodded and nudged Derek towards the house, he reached out and grabbed onto my hand clinging to it for dear life. I led Derek and Laura up the stairs and into my room and we all sat on my bed. Laura was still crying and threw herself into my arms. I wrapped my one arm around her and began to run it through her hair trying to soothe her as my own tears cascaded down my face.

"Everyone?" I asked with a choked sob.

"Peter somehow managed to get out. But they don't think he'll ever recover. He's in a coma." Derek whispered in a raspy voice. I clenched his hand tighter. The three of us sat in silence as we waited for my dad to come up. Laura finally calmed down enough to the point where she wasn't shaking anymore when he finally entered. He grabbed my dresser chair and pulled it over sitting in front of us.

"I talked to Stilinski. He's going to get me the paper work to get guardianship over the two of you. Laura I know you'll be 18 in a year, so you two will be staying here until then. If you want or need to stay longer than that you are more than welcome to, but you have to at least stay until you're 18 and graduated okay?" Laura nodded and wiped at her eyes.

"Thank you." She whispered out. My dad nodded.

"Now why don't you kids come down stairs and get something to eat. We will start taking care of everything else tomorrow."

Dinner was a somber affair. After we ate the three of us went up to my room and just sat in silence. Derek left after an hour, saying that he was going to bed and I stares out the door worriedly after him.

"Go." I heard Laura say from next to me.

"Are you sure? I don't wanna leave-"

"Derek needs you right now. Probably more than I do. He's been strong for me this whole time. He needs someone to be there for him." I nodded and leaned over giving her a hard hug.

I walked across the hall and opened the door to one of the spare bedrooms. Derek was laid on the bed back towards the door. I could see his shoulders shaking. I closed the door behind me and quickly crawled into the bed so we were facing each other. I reached forward and wiped some of the tears from his face.

"It's my fault." He whispered. "It's all my fault." Sobs began to wrack his body. I reached forward and pulled him close and tucked his head into my chest. He wrapped his arms around me tightly, clinging to me as if I was a life line. I pressed a kiss to the top of his head as his sobs shook us both.

"I'm here, D. I'll always be here." I told him as I began to run my fingers through his hair.

When I once again came back to consciousness, it was because a bucket of ice water had been poured over my head. I sputtered and coughed. I heard laughter and peered up at Kate.

"What'd you do? Drop the water temperature with your cold heart, you frigid bitch?" I snapped. She scowled at me. As my eyes came fully into focus I noticed the splint on her nose and let out a laugh.

"Oh, that's fucking awesome. I'm digging the new look Kate." My head whipped to the side as she threw a punch and I spit out some blood. Derek let out an angry roar from his position. Kate turned and walked towards the table.

"That's a rude way to respond to a complement." I taunted.

"Cora, for the love of God, shut the fuck up." Derek snarled. I pouted, I was having fun, but I also realized that it was probably super hard to watch me get myself into so much trouble. Kate sat down by the table and began to listen to what I'm assuming were voice mails. Once she was done she hung the phone up and turned to Derek.

"Unfortunately, Derek, if you're not gonna talk - I'm just gonna have to kill you. So, say hi to your sister for me." I struggled with my bonds as she approached the electricity device.

"Don't you fucking dare you stupid bitch!" I yelled, trying my hardest to break free, but nothing was fucking working. Kate stopped and contemplated something for a moment.

"You did tell her about me, didn't you? The truth about the fire? Or did you? Did you tell anybody?" Kate asked she waited a moment for Derek to respond, when she didn't she glanced to me.

"I mean obviously Cora's known all along, but I mean, she called it from a mile away." She turned back to Derek and gave him a patronizing smile.

"Oh, sweetie - That's just a lot of guilt to keep buried. It's not all your fault. You got tricked by a pretty face. It happens! Handsome young werewolf mistakenly falls in love with a super - hot girl who comes from a family that kills the werewolves. Is that ironic? Is it - ironic - That you're inadvertently helping me track down the rest of the pack - again? Or just a little bit of history repeating."

"There you go with the sound of your voice again. Christ. Haven't you tortured us enough?" I asked trying to distract her from the train of thought she was on.

"History repeating. It's not Jackson, is it? Oh, no, no, no, he's got a little scratch on the back of his neck, but - he's not in love with Allison. Not like Scott." She looked between Derek and I with a proud look on her face and my heart jumped up into my throat. Fuck, shit, fuck. She quickly left the room and I began struggling with my bonds again.

"Derek. We've got to fucking get out of here." I tried using my body weight to scoot the chair I was tied down to, just to realize that the fucking thing was bolted to the floor.

"Cora, calm down. Okay we'll figure something out."

"We better fucking figure something out that psycho bitch is going after my nephew!"
