Somewhere weakness is our strength, and I'll die searching for it
I can't let myself regret, such selfishness
My pain and all the trouble caused, no matter how long
I believe that there's hope
Buried beneath it all and
Hiding beneath it all and
Growing beneath it all and
This is how we'll dance when
When they try to take us down
This is how we'll sing oh
This is how we'll stand when
When they burn our houses down
This is what we'll be, oh glory
Let the Flames Begin by Paramore
Anna
"Cora. Answer your phone. I can't find you or Sam and Dean. The impala is still at your place. What the fuck is going on?" The witch hung up and quirked a curious eyebrow as a familiar ratty blue Jeep pulled into her driveway. She slammed the door of her car and faced the Jeep. A look of confusion passed over her face as she saw a man in the passenger seat. His aura was dark and twisted causing a shiver to run down her spine and her eyes to flash purple for a moment. It was the Alpha. She approached Stiles' window as the Jeep came to a stop.
"Stiles. What the hell is going on?" She asked as she glanced warily at the Alpha in the passenger seat.
"We need your help to find Derek and Cora." Stiles answered as he shut off the Jeep.
"We?"
"He attacked Lydia and threatened to kill her if I didn't help." Stiles answered. Peter sent the witch a wolfish smile and stepped from the vehicle. Anna glanced at Stiles one more time before nodding her head towards the house. Stiles and Peter followed her. She and Stiles entered first, but Peter stopped at the threshold unable to enter. Peter glared at the woman.
"Mountain ash?" She smirked but shook her head.
"Nope. Just your good old fashioned protection charm. Keeps out anyone with any, mmm, ill intentions towards me out of the house." Peter growled eyes flashing red.
"Take it down." He ordered. Anna shook her head.
"Swear you mean Stiles and I no harm and it'll let you enter. Go back on your word and you'll suffocate before you even get the chance." Peter glared.
"I swear no harm will come to you and Stiles by my hand." Anna nodded, Stiles watched with bated breath as Peter took another step and was this time able to cross into the home. Anna waved a hand for the boys to follow her and headed to the kitchen. Stiles stared in awe at the cupboards lining the walls filled with hundreds of herbs and roots and things. The 16-year-old noted that there was a regular stove and such, but there was also a fireplace that housed a black cauldron. He snickered. Anna turned and smiled at the boy.
"I'm a sucker for the oldies. If it ain't broke, don't fix it." The witch then turned to the cabinet and began pulling down different herbs.
"So how are you going to find them?" Stiles asked. His eyes widened as Anna's eyes flashed purple and she snapped her fingers causing the fireplace to come to life. Anna smiled at the amazed look on the boy's face while Peter just rolled his eyes.
"She's going to do a locator spell." Peter told the boy, Anna nodded in confirmation.
"Cool."
The two watched as Anna worked quickly adding different herbs and what not to the cauldron. Stiles choked when Anna began to wave her hands around oddly for a few moments only for a ball of water to form in the girl's hand.
"Ahh, so you're not just a natural which. You're an earth witch." Peter mused. Anna glared at him before continuing with her concoction.
"What's an earth witch?" Stiles asked curiously. Anna ignored the question so Peter took the opportunity to answer.
"They're natural born witches that specialize in one or more elements. They're often referenced as elementals in lore and mythology. Many only specialize in one element, while the stronger ones may specialize in more than that."
"Is it rare or something?" Stiles asked, Anna nodded.
"Yes. Earth witches are rare enough. To be able to control more than one element let alone all four is almost unheard of." The girl answered.
"Damn that's pretty cool that you control two then." Stiles responded. Anna smirked eyes flashing purple as a wind began to whip around the kitchen and the house began to shake. Stiles flailed around for a moment before everything died down.
Minutes later Anna turned to the boys.
"Alright time for the last ingredients." She told them. She pulled a map of Beacon Hills from her shelf and grabbed a needle. She approached Peter who held out his hand. She pricked his thumb and her eyes flashed purple once again, this time to ensure she didn't lose the drop of blood from the needle. Stiles moved to stand beside her anxiously watching as she dropped the blood into the concoction. It created a small explosion causing Stiles to jump. He watched with interest as Anna's eyes seemed to flash an even brighter purple as she dropped the map into the water. Stiles watched in awe as the map began to melt away until there was only a small piece of the map floating in the potion. Stiles eyed it curiously.
"They're keeping him at his own house?" He questioned. The two turned Peter who glanced over Stiles shoulder. Peter let out a sarcastic laugh.
"Not in it. Under it. I know exactly where they're keeping them." Peter was silent for a moment before he looked to Stiles. "Give me your keys." He told the boy. Stiles rolled his eyes and handed them over.
"Careful. She grinds in second." He winced as Peter bent the keys before handing them back. "So you're not gonna kill me?" Anna stood back watching the scene play out with interest.
"Don't you understand yet? I'm not the bad guy here."
"You turn into a giant monster with red eyes and fangs, and you're not the bad guy here?" Stiles quipped. Peter smiled at the boy in amusement.
"I like you, Stiles. Since you've helped me, I'm going to give you something in return. Do you want the bite?"
"What?"
"Do you want the bite? If it doesn't kill you - and it could - you'll become like us." Anna quirked an eyebrow as she studied Stiles aura. It gave off waves of conflicting energy. The poor kid wanted it, but was scared at the same time.
"Like you."
"Yes, a werewolf. Would you like me to draw you a picture? That first night in the woods, I took Scott because I needed a new pack. It could've easily been you. You'd be every bit as powerful as him. No more standing by his side, watching him become stronger, and quicker, more popular, watching him get the girl. You'd be equals. Maybe more. Yes or no?"
"I don't wanna be like you." Anna picked up on the lie through his aura, while Peter picked up on it through the sound of his heart beat.
"Do you know what I heard just then? Your heart beating slightly faster over the words "I don't want." You may believe that you're telling me the truth, but you are lying to yourself. Goodbye, Stiles." Peter turned and headed out the door. Anna looked to Stiles who let out a breath and glared at his keys in irritation. Anna pulled her from her pocket and sent the boy a soft smile.
"C'mon. Where do you need to go?"
"The hospital."
Cora
I sighed and hung my head forward in irritation. I had been trying for hours to think of a way out of this shit hole, but had come up with nothing. Derek stayed silent as he watched me.
"We'll think of something." He told me, attempting to comfort me and I rolled my eyes choosing to ignore him. We sat there for a while in silence both trying to come up with an idea. Just as I was beginning to think it was useless, I felt a surge of hope flow through Derek.
"What? What is it?" I asked. He smiled at me.
"Scott, he howled." I sighed in relief and watched as Derek summed up all the energy he could sending a howl back to Scott to let him know where we were.
About 10 minutes later Derek's head perked up at the sound of Scott opening the door to the room we were locked in Scott rushed to me and began trying to undo my bindings.
"Aunt C! Are you okay?" The boy asked eying by bruised face worriedly. I smiled.
"I'm good bud. Go help Derek." I told him as he ripped the binding off my one arm. "Toss me that knife on your way." I called as he followed my directions. Once the knife was in my hand I began to work to get myself free. Scott and Derek had just finished getting his one hand free when both of their heads whipped towards the door and they exchanged a look.
"Hide!" Derek commanded as he scrambled to get his arm back in the cuff. I quickly grabbed the bindings and laid them over my arms hoping he didn't look too close. Well if they did I'd just have to fight them.
The door opened and Kate's douche bag lackey from before came in a bat dangling from one hand. He smirked as Derek picked his head up and looked at him.
"Ready to have some more fun? To be honest, my knuckles are kind of hurting. So I brought some help. But I need to warn ya. I used to play in college." The man walked forward as he talked taking a practice swing with the bat. I stood silently as I was out of his line of sight and stalked forward. Scott stepped out beside me. Douche bag hauled back and swung the bat at Derek. Derek reacted quickly and grabbed the bat.
"I brought a little help too." Derek responded. I acted quickly and reached up a hand at the top of the man's head and one by his chin. I pulled with all my strength and didn't let go until I heard the audible snap of his spine. Derek didn't blink at the display, he just went back to trying to free himself. Scott looked at me dumbfounded.
"Did you just-?" I nodded.
"Yep."
"You just killed him." Scott said sounding sick. I turned to my nephew and placed a hand on his shoulder.
"Look at me Scott. You see my face, that was mostly him. He would've killed us, this is what this life is. Sometimes it's survival of the fittest. It sucks, but that's the way it is." I told him. Scott still looked sick. I shrugged my shoulders, but deep down I was thankful he felt the way he did. This life had warped me long ago and that was something I never wanted for him.
"Scott, help me with this." Derek called out causing the other beta to look towards him. Scott glanced at me nervously before squaring his shoulders.
"No." I quirked an eyebrow.
"What?" Derek asked confusion lacing his voice.
"Not until you tell me how to stop Peter." I smirked. Good on ya Scottie. I patted the boys shoulder as I headed to the table and began to collect my things.
"You really wanna talk about this right now?"
"He's going after Allison and her family. He's going to kill them." I snorted as if that was a reason to help Scott. Sure, not all of them were completely psycho, but it's the principle of the matter.
"So what?"
"So tell me how to stop him."
"You can't! All right? Now - I don't know when Kate's coming back, so just get me out of this right now! Get me out right now! Cora get me out!" Derek yelled as he began rattling the chain and pulling on it. I turned to him at the sound of my name.
"I'm not helping you until you promise to help me.. and Scott apparently. Kill Peter." I told him. Both boys looked to me surprised.
"You'll help me?" Scott questioned happily. I shrugged.
"Well kind of. I'll help you kill Peter, but I'm not helping you save Allison and her family… maybe I'll help Allison if she needs it, but other than that their fair game. Also I'm putting a bullet between Kate's eyes the first chance I get." I answered. I watched as Scott rolled his eyes, but took the small win and turned back to Derek.
"Promise you'll help us."
"You want me to risk my life for your girlfriend? For your stupid little teenage crush that means absolutely nothing? You're not in love, Scott. You're 16 years old. You're a child."
"What about me, Der? I'm not enough for you to risk your life? Cause whether you come or not, I'm going after Peter. Weren't you the one that said we're stronger together?" I asked. Derek stared hard at me and I could see in his eyes he was unsure of what to do. He was scared, and through the bond I realized he was scared that if he went up against Peter and died, it would ultimately lead to my death as well and my heart clenched.
"Maybe you're right. But I know something you don't. Peter said he didn't know what he was doing when he killed your sister, right? He lied. Remember this?" Scott said holding up a print out. Stepping so I could get a look at it as well I recognized it as the deer marked with the spiral.
"This is what brought your Laura back to beacon hills, right?" I questioned Derek curious as to where Scott was going with this.
"Where did you get that?" Derek asked.
"My boss told me three months ago someone came into the clinic asking for a copy of this picture. Do you wanna know who it was? Peter's nurse. They brought your sister here so that Peter could kill her and become the Alpha, and that's why you're going to help me." Scott turned away from Derek and began to pace. "Just say you'll help me, and I'll help you unlock your other –" Scott was cut off by the sound of metal breaking and I watched Derek rip his arm from the cuff.
"I'll help you." Derek said with determination as he rubbed his hand before ripping the electrode pad off his side.
"Hey. Hold on. Hold on. Hold on. Something doesn't feel right." Derek said causing us to stop as we headed away from the cellars. I began glancing around, Derek's feeling of doom and paranoia washing over me.
"What do you mean?" Scott asked incredulously.
"I don't know. It's - it's kind of like it's-" I cut him off by covering his hand with my mouth and wagging a finger in his face.
"Ah, ah, ah. Don't you dare say the "E" word." Derek rolled his eyes and smacked my hand away from his mouth.
"No, don't say "too easy." People say "too easy" and bad things happen. What, do you think finding you was easy? Getting away from Allison's dad? None of this has been easy." Scott rambled.
"Fine. You're right." Derek sighed out and we started to walk again.
"Thank you." Scott remarked. After a few minutes of walking we were approaching the front yard of the Hale House. I heard the arrow before it hit. Derek dropped to the ground an arrow embedded in his shoulder.
"Now the leg." I heard Kate's voice instruct, and then Derek had another arrow embedded in his leg. I angrily rushed to his side and ripped the one out of his shoulder. "Flash bolt." Kate instructed. I slammed my hand over Derek's eyes as he called out to Scott.
"Scott, your eyes!"
"Now." The bolt launched and a flash of light went off. I opened my eyes and peeled my hand away from Derek's. I grabbed the arrow in his leg and roughly pulled it out.
"Get up! Let's go!" Derek yelled as he stood and grabbed Scott. The three of us took off towards the house. Scott was in the lead, I was in the middle and Derek was kicking up the rear a few feet behind. I turned as I heard another arrow followed by a thud, to see Derek on the ground a new arrow sticking out of his leg.
"Scott, Cora, go!" Derek yelled out. I rolled my eyes and rushed to my mates side.
"Allison, I can explain." Scott pleaded with the girl from his spot on the ground. How he had gotten there I didn't know.
"Stop lying. For once stop lying." Allison responded angrily and I rolled my eyes. Fucking teenage girls irritated the piss out of me.
"I was gonna tell you the truth at the formal. I was gonna tell you everything. Because everything that I said, everything that I did –"
"Was to protect me." Allison cut the boy off. I broke off the end of the arrow in Derek's leg. I grabbed what was left and yanked it out harshly. Derek groaned out in pain.
"Yes."
"I don't believe you."
"Thank God. Now, shoot him before I have to shoot myself." Kate pipped up from her place a few feet away from Derek and I.
"You - you said we were just gonna catch them?" Allison stuttered out in confusion. I let out a sarcastic laugh and Derek glared at me.
"We did that. Now we're gonna kill them." Kate said as she began walking towards her neice. I eyed her warily as she got closer to Derek and I she sent me a wink, before pulling up her gun and firing a round at Derek. It hit him in the shoulder. I acted quickly and dug my fingers in trying to fish the bullet out. "See? Not that hard. Oh, no - I know that look. That's the "you're gonna have to do it yourself" look." Kate said as she continued walking and approached the two. She pulled up her gun and aimed it at Scott's head. I quickly finished fishing the bullet out of Derek's shoulder and went to stand, but Derek placed a hand on my arm to stop me.
"Kate, Kate, what are you doing?" Allison cried out in horror.
"I love those brown eyes." Kate told Scott as she stared down the barrel of her gun. I tried standing again, but Derek tightened his hold on my arm. I shot him a confused look, but a look of realization crossed my face as a voice rang out. I whipped my head around and saw Chris approaching his sister as he spoke.
"Kate! I know what you did. Put the gun down."
"I did what I was told to do." Kate replied not looking at her brother.
"No one asked you to murder innocent people. There were children in that house, ones who were human. Look what you're doing now. You're holding a gun at a 16 - year - old boy with no proof he spilled human blood. We go by the code - Nous chassons ceux qui nous chassent. »
"We hunt those who hunt us." Allison breathed out. Chris fired off a shot it hit the tree just behind his sister as she just continued to ignore him.
"Put the gun down. Before I put you down." The siblings had a stare off for a moment before we all turned as the door to the Hale House began to open, slow and creepy. "Allison, get back." Chris called out to his daughter.
"What is it?" The girl asked.
"It's the Alpha." Scott responded as he stood pushing Allison towards her father.
Peter rushed from the house and began circling the group. I glanced at Derek and he nodded signaling he was fine. As everyone was distracted by Peter circling us I took my chance and rushed at Kate. I tackled her at the same time Peter began knocking the people in the circle off balance.
Kate tried to throw a punch at me but I knocked her hand out of the way and began to lay blow after blow to her face. She reached up and grabbed at my casted arm, she grabbed it and tugged hard on it causing me to grit my teeth in pain. As I lost focus for just a second she used it to her advantage and threw me off. She climbed on top of me trying to get her arms around my throat. Ignoring the pressure on my airway I reached up and grabbed the front of her shirt pulling her down to my level and head butting her in her already injured nose. She cried out and grabbed for her face. I flipped us quickly so I was back on top and pinned her arms down with my legs. I grabbed her fallen gun from next to us and quickly aimed it at her face.
"Have fun in hell you psychotic bitch." I told her cocking the gun. I went to fire but was knocked off her by a strong force. I let out a rush of air as I watched Peter grab her by the throat and begin dragging her into the house.
"Fucking prick." I growled out. I stood and rushed into the house after Allison. As I entered I rushed towards the girl and pushed her behind me. She tried getting around me but I held her back. Eyes locked on Peter who had Kate by the throat.
"She is beautiful, Kate. She looks like you. Probably not as damaged. So, I'm going to give you a chance to save her. Apologize. Say that you're sorry for decimating my family, for leaving me burned and broken for six years. Say it - And I'll let her live." I watched as Kate's eyes locked on Allison, the fear evident in the older woman's eyes and I smiled.
"I'm sorry." Peter smiled and before I could blink, he sliced his claws against her throat, ending her life. I was glad she was gone, but a little pissed that Peter stopped me from killing her myself.
"I don't know about you, Allison, but that apology - didn't sound very sincere." Peter told the crying girl with a smirk. I pushed her farther behind me and turned at the sound of Scott's voice.
"Run!" Allison took off out of the house and Scott and I rushed at Peter. Derek appeared behind us.
Scott reached Peter first and took a couple swings at him. Peter blocked the boy easily. I looked around and found an old fire poker on the ground. I grabbed it and waited for my opening. Peter shoved Scott away from him, the Alpha's face beginning to shift. He threw Scott away from him and I took my chance.
I rushed him and stabbed the fire poker into his sighed. He let out a roar of pain and ripped it out of his side. He swiped at me with his other arm, and I dodged it. I went to throw a punch at him, but he grabbed my arm and spun me to him. I went to throw a backwards punch at him, but he intercepted it.
I cried out as I felt something sharp cut through the skin on my arm before I was thrown away from Peter. Derek let out a roar and rushed Peter only to be back handed by the Alpha and sent flying across the room. I heard a crash and saw the tail end of Peter launching himself out of the window. I groaned and pushed myself up going over to Derek. I started smacking his face.
"Hey wake up. Derek wake up!" I yelled. He groaned coming back into consciousness. I stood and held out a hand to help him up as well.
Anna and Stiles
"Hey careful. This isn't exactly an all-terrain vehicle." Jackson called out to Anna from the backseat of her car. The witch rolled her eyes.
"Watch yourself kid. You aren't paying for it so fuck off. We're in a time crunch here." Stiles snickered and the girl and Jackson's offended look from the backseat.
"Make yourself useful and grab those mason jars from the bag." Anna ordered the boy. Jackson reached over and pulled out the two mason jars.
"What the hell are these?" Jackson asked eyeing the dark liquid.
"They're liquid fire. Give one to Stiles." The hyperactive boy reaches back and took one from Jackson.
"What're we supposed to do with them?" Stiles asked curiously.
"You throw them at the Alpha if you get a chance. They'll explode as soon as the jar breaks."
"That is so awesome!" Stiles said in excitement causing Anna to chuckle.
Dean and Sam
Dean paced angrily around the panic room that Castiel had locked him Sam and Bobby in the day before.
"Cas! Castiel! Get your feathered ass down here and take us back!" Dean yelled angrily into the room.
"Boy all that yelling didn't work the first 10 times. What makes you think it'll work now?" Bobby questioned.
"Because it's time." Castiel answered as he appeared in front of the three men.
Anna and Stiles
As the witch and two humans pulled up to the scene they rushed out of the car. Peter was standing at one end of the clearing while Scott was huddled next to Allison. Derek and Cora were nowhere in sight.
"Stiles now!" Anna called out and the boy threw the mason jar towards Peter. The Alpha caught it easily and Anna cursed.
"Allison!" Scott called as he retrieved the girls bow and threw it to her. She caught it quickly. In one motion, she notched an arrow and let it fly. It hit its target dead center and Peter screamed out as his arm went up in flames.
Jackson threw the other jar and it hit Peter square in the chest igniting on impact. Peter rushed towards Allison, covered in flames, intending to take out another Argent before his time was up.
"No!" Scott yelled trying to reach the girl. Peter never made it as Anna held up a hand eyes glowing a brilliant purple and used her power to manipulate the air. An unnatural burst of wind sent Peter flying back a few yards. The sound of footsteps on the porch caused the witch to turn and look.
Cora
Derek and I walked out of the house in time to see Anna fling Peter across the yard with her powers. She turned as she heard our footsteps and I could see the relief in her eyes at the sight of us. I ignored the excruciating pain in my arm and the feeling of being ready to pass out that was quickly rolling over me.
Scott was over by Allison checking on her and her father and I saw her kiss Scott. I smiled slightly before focusing back on the task at hand. I laced my fingers with Derek as we headed to the burning body of Peter. The fire went out unnaturally fast as we approached. I sent Anna a small smile of thanks. As we reached the body Peter's tormented eyes stared up at us.
"Wait! You said the cure comes from the one who bit you. Derek. If you do this, I'm dead. Her father, her family - what am I supposed to do?" Scott yelled pleadingly at Derek.
"You've - already - decided. I can smell it on you!" Peter choked out.
Derek glanced to me unsure for a moment and I squeezed his hand.
"Do it." My mate nodded and his eyes flashed blue as his claws extended. He leaned down and slashed Peter's throat. I could feel it as the new power flowed through him. Derek spun to face the other's and I let go of his hand to step back away from him as a dizziness began to settle over me fast. I reached up as I felt something begin to drip from my nose. I stared in horror as I brought my hand up and saw the black blood.
"I'm the Alpha now." Derek said, eyes flashing blood red.
And then, I collapsed.
