-You'll be in my Heart by Phil Collins

Anna, Derek, and I were sitting in the living room of the apartment staring at the diagram on my laptop.

"So, I mean are we technically pregnant? This says that the fertilized egg isn't even implanted in the uterus." Anna asked pointing towards the "day five" stage in the picture. I shrugged my shoulder.

"I mean I guess technically no, but I mean a fucking angel told us we were so I guess at the same time yes, because that kind of guarantees that it will implant. Right?" I asked the two people sitting next to me.

"I can't believe you guys are making me look at this." Derek mumbled as he stared at the picture of the uterus. I rolled my eyes at him, he was such a guy.

"What're you going to name yours?" I asked Anna, ignoring Derek. Anna gave me a blank look.

"Cora, I don't even know what it is."

"So?"

"So how am I going to know what I'm going to name it without knowing what it is?" Derek laughed at the offended look on my face.

"Cora's had her future children's names picked out since she was 10." I stuck my tongue out at Derek's mocking tone. "Just so you know, if we have a boy, we're not naming it Bruce after Batman." I scowled at Derek and Anna let out a laugh at the two of us.

"I'll have you know, my name choices have changed over the years."

"Not that this conversation isn't entertaining, but what are you going to do about the full moon tomorrow?" Anna asked, breaking my concentration of glaring at Derek.

"Good question. Isaac and I are both going to be locked up." I mused, as I began to try to think of a place.

"What about the old train depot?" Anna suggested. Derek nodded and I gave a thumbs up.

"That would work, it's secluded and already run down, so if you guys get loose and destroy stuff it won't be a big deal."

"I can go early and set up a barrier spell, and then just finish it up once you're all there." Anna added.

"What if you just did a barrier spell on two separate rooms instead of the whole place?"

"You guys would be fine together, we could just do one room." Derek interjected. "You're pack, you won't be trying to kill each other, you'll just be trying to get out." I went to respond, but was cut off by a pounding on the door. I could smell Isaac standing on the other side, and the panic rolling off him had me up and rushing towards the door before anyone could blink.

"Derek! Cora!" Isaac called as he pounded against the door again. I yanked the door open and ushered the boy inside. He was soaked from the rain and had a panicked look on his face.

"What's wrong?" Derek asked standing in the door way of the kitchen and living room, arms crossed over his chest.

"My dad. I think he's dead." Isaac said my eyes widened.

"What did you do?" Derek questioned taking a step forward, Isaac took a step back in intimidation, I growled at Derek and flashed my eyes at him. He stared at me bewildered, I shook my head in confusion at what had just happened. I'd worry about it later.

"That's the thing. It wasn't me." Isaac interrupted, breaking through my confusion. Isaac's worry was rolling off him in waves and I stepped forward grabbing onto his hand. I led him over to the table.

"Sit, I'll go get you some clothes." I told the boy and laid a hand against his hair in comfort.

"I'll make you some hot chocolate." Anna said moving towards the cupboard. I nodded at her in thanks. She winked at me. I went down to the extra bedroom where Scott had some shorts and stuff from when he stayed the night. I pulled out a pair of basketball shorts and a t-shirt. I headed to the kitchen and gave them to Isaac. Derek stood leaning against the wall watching the three of us with interest. I handed the clothes to Isaac.

"Bathroom is down the hall on the left. Feel free to shower if you need too." Isaac nodded and headed in the direction I pointed them.

"His aura is all sorts of screwy." Anna noted from her spot next to the stove waiting for the water to boil.

"You got anything handy to help calm him down?" I asked, Anna gave me an apologetic look.

"No, sadly I don't. On a side note, what the hell was with you growling at Derek?" I shrugged my shoulders in response.

"No, fucking clue. Care to shed some light on that D?" I asked turning to my mate. He smiled at me.

"It's your instincts. You're the Alpha female of the pack C. You're going to be super protective of all the betas. Your wolf knew Isaac felt threatened and reacted."

"Yeah, but why would it react towards you?" I asked in confusion. "You weren't actually threatening him." Derek sighed and took a seat at the table.

"It's situational. Like say, it was Scott, your wolfs likely not to react, because Scott isn't going to feel as threatened. Isaac on the other hand, being abused, is going to feel more threatened all the time. My wolf isn't going to pick up on it as much, because it's going to be more geared towards dominance, with or without me trying for it, while yours is more geared towards nurturing." I nodded my head and smiled sweetly at it.

"So basically, my wolf reacts when your wolf is being a dick head." Derek rolled his eyes.

"Essentially." Anna snickered as Isaac reentered the kitchen. I motioned towards the seat in between Derek and I. Isaac sat down and glanced at the three of us nervously. Anna poured the hot water into his cup and handed it to him.

"Thank you, Anna. Are you a werewolf too?" Isaac asked curiously, Anna chuckled and shook her head no.

"While I am a part of the pack, I'm not a wolf. I'm a witch." Isaac's eyes widened in awe.

"Witches are real too?" I smiled at the amazed look on his face.

"Hun, just about every supernatural thing you could think of is real." I told him with a small laugh. "I'll tell ya all about what's out there, but right now we need to talk about what happened tonight." Isaac looked down to the mug of hot chocolate in his hands and took a sip, he cleared his throat before beginning to speak.

"We uh- we were eating dinner, and he was asking about my grades. I shouldn- I shouldn't have lied when I told him I didn't know what my Chem grade was, but I knew he was going to be mad I had a D… When I finally admitted it he- he- told me he was just going to punish me by making me clean the kitchen. Then he started slamming and breaking dishes." Isaac paused drawing in a deep breath and I reached forward and grabbed his hand holding it tightly. "He threw a glass pitcher at me and it shattered on the wall. One of the shards got stuck just below my eye. I started to lose control, until I saw how shocked he was by the cut healing and I ran out. He followed me and I took my bike down and alley. I ditched the bike and took off on foot. I heard him calling for me, but I didn't turn around until I heard him scream and a loud crash that sounded like metal tearing. When I went back to see what happened the door was ripped off his car and something had sliced his throat." Isaac finished in a shaky voice. He looked up finally, a pleading look in his eyes, I saw tears beginning to build up in his eyes.

"You have to believe me. I swear I didn't kill him." I took the hot chocolate from him and set it on the table. I pulled him into a tight hug.

"Don't worry. We believe you, hun." Isaac hugged me back tightly and I could feel and smell as a few tears rolled down his face.

"Where am I going to go?" Isaac asked after a few minutes as he pulled away.

"You'll stay here, obviously." Isaac looked surprised.

"You're pack Isaac." Derek added as if that was an answer.

"That means we look out for each other." I elaborated, Isaac smiled weakly at me. I could tell by the bags under his eyes he was exhausted. "Go get some sleep. It's the last door on the right." Isaac nodded and stood.

"Thank you." He said softly as he turned and headed down the hallway.

Derek

Anna and I left Cora at the apartment with Isaac and headed over to his house to check things out and get him some clothes. We parked in Anna's driveway down the street before we snuck down to Isaac. When we reached the back door Anna picked up a stick and inserted it into the lock. I watched curiously as she concentrated for a moment, her eyes flashed purple, before turning the stick as if it was a key. She pulled the stick out and I raised an eyebrow, impressed. It was shaped as a key now and when she reached forward to open the door, the knob turned easily and the door opened with a squeak.

"Handy having a witch around, isn't it?" Anna asked with a smirk. I chuckled and headed inside. As soon as I entered a sick feeling overcame me at the amount of pain and fear that assaulted my senses. No child should have to live in this type of environment.

"Do you feel that?" I asked Anna as I glanced around trying to find the strongest source, but it was hard with how much was present.

"Yeah, I think most of it is coming from the basement." Anna answered as she stood in the center of the room. She began to move after that and I followed quietly, my senses expanded listening for the police or whoever killed Isaac's father. Anna approached the door and as she grabbed the handle I watched as a shiver ran through her body.

"You okay?" I asked in concern. She nodded, and took a deep breath before opening the door. I followed Anna into the basement, the feelings of pure panic increasing the farther we went. As we reached the last steps my eyes immediately zeroed in on a freezer in the corner of the dark basement. My eyes flashed red and I noticed Anna's flash purple. She glanced nervously at me, taking the initiative as the Alpha I walked towards the freezer.

Cora

I could hear Isaac tossing and turning in his bed and I sighed, he'd been like this since Derek and Anna left. I headed down the hall and knock on the door.

"Come in." I heard him say softly. I entered quickly leaving the door open and I crawled into the bed. He looked at me startled and I rolled my eyes.

"Calm down dude. Cuddling with pack helps. Little trick I learned growing up with the Hales." Isaac looked at me unsure.

"It's just I don-" I rolled my eyes and snuggled into his chest, the words died in his throat as he realized I was right. As soon as we were in contact I felt him begin to relax and could smell that his worry decreased slightly.

"Woah." I smirked and nodded.

"Told you." I stayed with Isaac until he fell asleep. Once I was sure he was asleep and going to stay that way I got up and headed into the bathroom. I grabbed the clothes he had left there and discarded them into the washer. As I was getting ready to start it I heard the Camaro pull up outside. Finishing the task at hand I made it back to the kitchen just as Derek entered. Anna must have gone home.

Derek threw a bag on the counter and didn't look at me. I quirked an eyebrow, and began to search his emotions. I took a step back as they hit me full force. Anger, sadness, pity.

"How bad was it?" I asked unsure if I really wanted to know the answer. Derek just stared at me unable to form the words. I walked closer and grabbed his hand. I placed it against my mating mark while simultaneously placing my other hand against his. I sucked in a breath at the memories that flowed through me. Pain, torment, and anxiety hit me like a train. My eyes welled up with tears as I approached the freezer in Derek's memory. I reached out, vaguely noting that it was Derek's hand not mine, and ran a finger over the lock. I glanced to the side and locked eyes with Anna, who had tears in her eyes and an angry look on her face. I looked back towards the freezer and lifted the lid.

I broke away from Derek as I caught sight of the finger nail marks in the freezer. I turned away from him, my heart beating fast. I could feel the change coming on, and coming on fast. My vision turned red, and my claws extended. I growled as Derek tried to approach me.

"Hey. Cora. Hey!" He called as I spun away from him and headed down the hallway. I opened the door to Isaac's room and though it was dark I could still see clearly through my Alpha eyes. Isaac shot up as the door opened and looked to me. I could smell his fear as he caught sight of me, causing me to whimper and take a step back. I bumped into a chest, my wolf and I recognized it easily as Derek, keeping us from worrying. I kept my eyes trained on Isaac, waiting for him to not be scared.

"She won't hurt you Isaac. She's just worried about you." Derek assured the boy. He tried pulling me away from the room, but I struggled against him letting out a small growl. "Cora, focus." Derek told me softly. "You're scaring him. Shift back." I took in a deep breath and whimpered again at the smell of Isaac's fear. I closed my eyes and focused on the heart beat behind me. After a moment a felt myself begin to shift back and my vision turned back to normal.

"Shit. I'm sorry Isaac." I said, irritation at myself lacing my voice.

"It- Its okay." Isaac stuttered out. I nodded and turned, I pushed past Derek and stormed my way to the bed room.

Once I reached the room I went into the bathroom and pulled my shirt off and splashed water onto my face. I took a deep breath and let it out slowly trying to get the smell of Isaac's fear out of my head. I slipped my pants and bra off and threw my shirt back on before heading back into the bedroom. Derek was sitting on the edge of the bed waiting for me.

"Are you okay?" He asked me worriedly. I nodded and walked to him, placing myself between his legs.

"Yeah, I just- I don't get how someone can fucking do that to their kid." Derek wrapped his arms around my waist and leaned his head against my chest.

"I know. But he's safe now. He'll never have to feel that way again." I nodded and leaned down placing a kiss against Derek's head.

"You're damn right he won't."

The next morning Derek took off on foot to head to the school. I took the Camaro and headed to pick Anna. As she was walking out of her house I popped the trunk and she threw her duffle bag into the back.

"Why do you have the Camaro?" She asked curiously as she climbed into the passenger seat. I shrugged not sure.

"I don't really know. Der just told me to drive this instead of the truck. Not really going to complain though because I can go faster in this one." I told her with a wink as I backed out of the drive way and we headed towards the abandoned train depot to set up for tonight.

"Have you heard from Dean?" Anna asked curiously as we made our way through town. I shook my head and sent her a curious look.

"No why?" She smiled sheepishly at me.

"Well he called last night to see how I was doing… and I may have accidentally let slip that you and Derek made a beta." I glared.

"You did what?!" I asked a growl lacing my voice. Anna flashed her purple eyes at me.

"Hey, no need to fucking Alpha me." I took a deep breath to calm myself.

"I'm sorry, you're right. I didn't mean to. I'm still not used to this shit." I grumbled as we finally pulled up to our destination. She patted my shoulder.

"It's okay, bud. We'll figure it out. You're honestly doing really good. Don't beat yourself up too hard." I smiled in thanks at her and stepped out of the car.

"So what do you need me to do?" I asked as we met at the trunk of the car.

"Hones-" Anna was cut off by a chirping from my phone. I pulled it out and read the text from Derek out loud.

"They're arresting Isaac. Meet me at school. Want Scott to help me since you'll be tied up tonight." Anna and I exchanged worried looks.

"A holding cell won't be able to hold him." The witch told me. I nodded in agreement.

"Are you good here?" I asked as Anna pulled the bag from the trunk. She nodded and slammed it shut for me.

"Yeah go. Just make sure you're back soon. I want to be able to test it before the moon reaches its peak." I gave the witch a thumbs up and hopped into the driver's seat.

Derek and I pulled up in front of Scott in front of the school.

"Get in." Derek commanded as I stepped out of the car and pulled the seat forward. Scott sent us an incredulous look.

"Are you serious? You did that. That's your guys' fault." Scott snapped. I rolled my eyes as did Derek.

"Now's not the time to be playing the blame game Scott. Get in the fucking car." I snapped back, my voice beginning to take on a growl.

"No, I've got a better idea. I'm gonna call a lawyer. Because a lawyer might actually have a chance at getting him out before the moon goes up." Scott argued. I scowled at him.

"Not when they do a real search of the house." Derek spoke up.

"What do you mean?" Scott asked in confusion.

"Whatever Jackson said to the cops, what's in the house is worse. A lot worse."

As we pulled up down the street from Isaac's the three of us exited the vehicle and Derek handed me the keys as I went to get into the car.

"Wait you're not coming? Did you forget that this is partly your fault too since you didn't stop Derek from turning Isaac?" Scott asked in irritation. I glared at him.

"Listen you little asshole, I love you, but you're pissing me the fuck off with all the fucking attitude all the time. We picked Isaac because his father fucking abused the shit out of him. He wanted the bite. He needed the bite." I snapped, Scott looked dumbfounded at me before he turned to Derek confused. Derek laughed and pushed Scott towards the house.

"Oh, don't mind her. It's the full moon." I glared at Derek.

"Oh, fuck off. Don't patronize me." Derek quirked an eyebrow at me. I felt calming emotions flow through the bond towards me and I began to calm down, the angry fog disappearing from my mind. After a minute, I smiled widely at the boys.

"Alright well, this is awkward. I'm just gonna go meet Anna. See you boys." I told them as I climbed in the car and sped off.

I pulled up to the train depot a few minutes later and exited the car. I headed inside, I went to call out for Anna, but stopped myself when I picked up on two other scents and two other voices. Fucking Jason and Rich. I scowled and snuck farther in as I listened.

"Now, if you just tell us who the fuck is in the rest of your coven, we'll make it nice and quick. We promise." I heard Jason's voice and I felt myself begin to shift. However, unlike all the other times I was in complete control. I knew Anna was in trouble and I needed to save my pack.

"I already told you I don't have a fucking coven. I'm a natural witch. We don't generally need fucking covens." I heard Anna respond, before a thud sounded and Anna gasped out in pain.

"Stop fucking lying!" Jason yelled. I scowled and began to speak as I slowly crept forward staying out of sight.

"She's not lying. She doesn't have a coven." I said my voice taking on the deeper tone as I shifted and my vision hanged. I saw Jason and Rich begin looking around frantically trying to figure out who and where the voice was coming from. I stepped from the shadows and internally smiled at the shocked looks on the men's faces as they took in the appearance of me shifted.

"She has a pack." I growled and then I charged them.

I reached Rich first and backhanded him, knocking him out and sending him flying into a wall. Jason pulled up his gun and fired a few rounds off at me, which I easily dodged. I rushed him and knocked the gun out of his hands. He tried to throw a punch, but I caught it easily and bent his arm. I didn't bend it enough to break it but I did bend it to the point that he went down to his knees from the pain. I pulled back and punched him across the face. He collapsed unconscious and I looked to Anna. She had a blind fold over her eyes and I sighed. No wonder she didn't use her magic. Can't attack what you can't see. I took a moment to focus on Derek and centered myself. Once I reached her I untied the blindfold first before working on her arms.

"Jesus. It's about fucking time. They've had me tied up for a fucking hour." Anna told me as she wiggled her hands and cracked her neck. She stood and stretched trying to work the kinks out of her back.

"Did they hit you in the stomach at all?" I asked in worry. Anna paused and stopped, assessing her stomach for a moment.

"No, I don't think so." I nodded and sighed in relief. "They torched my bag. I'm not going to be able to do the spell." I groaned and looked at my phone to check the time.

"Well the moon reaches it's peak in 10 minutes. Let's get these dicks tied up and see what happens I guess." Anna and I worked together to quickly get the two men tied up to a pole in the center of the room.

"How the hell do we wake them up?" Anna asked curiously.

"Do the water thingy." I answered a smirk on my face.

Anna smiled at me in amusement and I watched with excitement as her eyes lit up purple and she waved her hands about for a moment. After a few seconds a ball of water developed in her hand and I watched in amazement as she continued to make it grow. She sent me a wink once it was the size of a large pumpkin and pushed her hands out directing the water to soak the two hunters before us. I laughed and they came to spitting and sputtering.

"Well hello boys. Welcome back." I told them with a smirk. Jason glared at me while Rich looked frightened.

"If you kill us, others will come after you." I rolled my eyes at the petty threat.

"Jesus Christ Jason. Shut your fucking trap. I'm not going to fucking kill you." Rich looked at me surprised.

"Really?" I sighed.

"Of fucking course, not. Before this little incident, I considered you guys friends. Circumstances may have changed that, and by circumstances I do mean you douches tried to kill my witchy friend here for no good fucking reason-"

"She's a fucking witch. That's reason enough." Jason interrupted me. I growled and flashed my eyes at him.

"She's never fucking hurt anyone. All she's ever done is help people. She doesn't deserve to die just for being fucking born different. You're a piece of shit, but that doesn't mean you deserve to die… Anyway. As I was saying I'm going to let you guys go. On the condition that you know I won't be as merciful next time. You ever try another stunt like that again on one of mine, or if I ever catch wind that you killed a natural witch or any werewolf without 100% solid proof they killed someone. You bet your ass I'm coming after you, and you won't be walking away alive after that." As I finished my speech I could feel the moon beginning to crest. I glanced at Anna and she tilted her head towards the door. I pulled a knife out of my pocket and dropped it on the ground just out of reach of Rich's foot.

"Good luck boys." I told them with a wave and headed out. I tossed Anna the Camaro keys as we headed out the doors.

"You okay?" She asked curiously. I nodded and looked up at the moon when we reached the car.

"Yeah, not anymore out of control than normal." I told her with a shrug as we climbed into the car, however, I spoke too soon because as she pulled out of the parking lot I felt the change begin to take over. I began trying to stamp it down immediately letting out a groan of exertion.

"Ah shit really?" Anna groaned. "Fuck. Focus on Derek, Cora. Focus on the bond." I tried doing as she said, but my head was a jumbled mess.

I couldn't think straight. I closed my eyes and tried to clear my head, but it didn't work. When I opened my eyes again my vision was tinged with red, making me able to see easily into the dark. I felt the car slow as Anna pulled over onto the side of the road. I opened the door and stepped out hoping the air would help. I tried reaching out for the bond again and was able to distinguish it from the rest of the jumbled mess in my mind. I could feel Derek reaching back for me and noticed he was close to the area.

I'm coming, C. Just focus. The words brought clarity to me for a moment, and I could reign things in. However, I lost the progress I'd made after a short moment. I groaned and dropped to the ground. I looked up as I heard two sets of footsteps rushing through the woods. I felt my fangs extend and poke at my lips. Derek and Isaac burst through the trees, neither turned.

"Cora. Look. I'm here. I'm right here. Focus on my heart beat. Listen." I did as instructed, Derek walked closer as I kept focusing on his heart trying to get mine to match up to the beating.

Derek reached me in a few strides and dropped to the ground in front of me. My breathing was heavy and I stilled for a moment as Derek pulled me to him. He buried his face in my mating mark and I shivered at the sensation. I did the same, and as I took in his scent, which was a nice combination of leather, woods and something spicy that was completely Derek, I felt myself being to actual calm. We stayed that way for a few minutes and once I felt as if I was good I pulled back after placing a kiss on his mark. He smiled at me as we faced each other, I grinned back and leaned forward and gave him a loving kiss. As we pulled apart I whispered a thank you against his lips.

"Why aren't you guys at the train depot?" Derek asked as we stood. Anna finally exited the Camaro now that I was back to normal.

"Because some douche bag hunters showed up and tied me up to a fucking chair and tried to get me to give up my non existent coven." Anna said as we started walking towards the car.

"What?" Derek snapped, his eyes flashing red. I smiled and grabbed his hand.

"Don't worry dear. I took care of it."

"Did you kill them?" Isaac asked curiously. I shook my head and turned to him.

"No I just kindly told them, that if they ever tried that again or ever hurt/killed a werewolf or natural born witch with less than 100% proof they killed someone I'd be coming after them."

"You what?" Derek snapped. I shrugged my shoulders.

"What did you expect me to do? Let them hurt Anna?" I asked with a roll of my eyes.

"No, but-"

"Well think before you speak Derek. You were pissed off they put her in danger too. I took care of it. It's over and done." I told him firmly. Derek sighed.

"Are the babies okay?" He asked looking between Anna and I. I snickered.

"Yes, both fertilized eggs are fine." Derek rolled his eyes at me.

"Babies?" Isaac asked excitedly from next to me, a grin wider than I ever thought could be possible on someone's face.
