Chapter 6 The lost one

Coco and the tiger cub found themselves along the Great Wall of China once more. Only this time, darkness settled among the land, with not a soul in sight. The soft gentle breeze made the world seem more serene, however it also made the small girl slightly unnerved.

"It seems so peaceful, something's not right." Coco thought to herself.

Pura mewed in response.

"You're right, we should start moving."

Coco and the little cub walked along the path with the cold air rushing around them. It almost felt as if death was approaching, ready to take them away.

Finally after a good fifteen minutes, Coco had developed a feeling that someone was following her.

"Is someone there?" She called out, but she didn't get a response.

Pura started growling.

"Pura what's wrong?" Coco asked, gently.

Pura growled, feeling someone nearby.

"Is someone close?"

The cub continued to growl. Coco noticed that some sort of cloth was caught in the cubs teeth. The bandicoot reached for it to see it was some sort of light blue silk.

"This cloth seems to be from the ninja's uniform when you bit her. Is she near by?"

Pura growled, swiping angrily at the ground.

"She has to be; you wouldn't be reacting like this if she wasn't." Coco concluded.

"Your little cub is clever, dear child." A familiar but spine chilling voice replied from the shadows.

Coco felt her heart pounding. "Whose there?!" She cried out, although she already knew.

From the heavy shadows on the girl's right, Uka Uka slowly emerged.

"It's you, the demon mask. Where's Midori?" Coco demanded.

The floating mask smiled coldly at her.

"Don't you worry, she will be here soon."

"What are you and Cortex planning to the do with crystals?!"

"Simple, those crystals will give me ultimate power. With there power, I can recreate my path of destruction." The evil mask, chuckled.

"And Cortex will rule the planet with the help of your power; am I about right?" Coco asked, quietly.

"It would appear to be."

Coco felt her being rock to the core; but she attempted to spit back.

"Well, my brother and I will not let that happen!"

Uka Uka chuckled darkly.

"Really, you really stand by that? Simple naïve child; you and your brother don't even know what I am capable of."

"It can't be that different from AkuAku."

"He never told you the whole story did he?"

"No…" Coco answered, unsure of herself.

"I'm not surprised; he's too proud to admit what happened. If he hasn't told you now, he never will."

"Regardless of your origins, your powers can't bring us down!"

"Do you really assume it will be that easy? That talking bravely will build confidence to hide the fear inside you?"

"Who said I was scared?! I'm not afraid of you!" Coco replied, not very sure of herself.

A figure was slowly lurking behind her. Pura felt it's presence and mewed towards her master.

"What's wrong girl?" Coco asked the baby tiger. Suddenly she felt a swipe behind her as Midori charged toward her. Coco just managed to dodge out of the way, when she got look at Midori in the ominous moonlight.

Her outfit was much different from the last time; looking more like an outfit a priestess would wear. The wind blew through the girl's long black hair, giving her a frighteningly gentle appearance.

"Silent as the night; you made your move quite well." Uka Uka replied.

Midori said nothing, but simply bowed.

Coco simply grinned, but looked very awkward. Pura nudged against her. The small girl absently patted the cubs head when she noticed a large rock. She then thought of something. Coco picked it up and threw it towards Midori. As she suspected, a black aura surrounded Midori. Coco found some confidence building, as she grinned.

"Hah… She doesn't have a mask to help her now!" Coco laughed.

However when the aura around Midori cleared, UkaUka just looked back at her, not looking strained at all.

"Let me guess: my feeble brother can only protect someone only once and must recharge power, leaving you with only your wits?"

"Uhhhh…." Coco refused to admit she was frightened now. The odds were not in her favor, not with mask being able to protect the ninja.

The mask's expression darkened.

"Now then, I say this little annoyance must be dealt with. Midori, kill her!"

Midori jumped in the air aiming her sword. Coco however, just slid out of the way before the sword would've impaled through her stomach.

As fast she could, Coco ran towards Pura quickly jumping on her back. The girl gently kicked the cubs sides, sending them down the path.

Midori climbed onto her horse. After muttering to it in Japanese, the horse flew down the path after the small bandicoot. Uka Uka slowly trailed behind them, grinning darkly.

Meanwhile in the Arabian world, Crash and the floating mask were walking through the city's marketplace for the crystal and two of the gems Aku had sensed. The hot weather around them was pleasant change for Crash, allowing him to take off his coat and let the hot sun bathe on his fur.

The streets were filled with many people; so finding the crystal and gems on the ground had not been easy. Crash had decided to climb to the rooftops and search from the there. Suddenly he was approached by Ramona. She was dressed in the finest silks, with a top slightly revealing her belly. And well, Crash felt his hormones start to kick in.

"Well hello there Crash." The assistant purred, her thick Peruvian accent like honey.

"Oh hello…" Crash's legs felt like applesauce.

"Well bandicoot, it seems that you've been giving my fellow allies some trouble. But, I made a promise that I wouldn't let this continue."

Crash tried to snap himself out of his trance as he stared at Ramona, when felt the assistant whack him with her staff, bringing him back to reality.

"You really think you can use your beauty and strength to your advantage?" Crash asked, sweetly.

Ramona simply crouched down. "Unless you can outwit me."

Crash jumped along the rooftops avoiding the minion of the best of his ability. Ramona jumped along the clothes lines grinning madly, making sure she wouldn't let her kill escape.

Crash noticed she was gaining and he decided. Why not put up his dukes?

Ramona stopped, confused as to why he stopped running.

Ramona jumped in the air ready to whack the bandicoot's head. Crash spin dashed her; the momentum sent her crashing into a wall. Crash, satisfied that Ramona wouldn't be bothering him anymore, continued on his way.

Meanwhile, Coco could feel her heart pounding as she and Pura were trying to run from the practically invincible ninja.

"Why are you running away? Ignorant child; you are only delaying your fatal fall." The demon mask laughed behind her.

Coco tried her best to block out the distractions around her when she herself coming to a large gap in the road. She felt uneasy; but she knew if couldn't jump it, she would die here and now.

"Come on girl, we need to jump the gap. If we can't, then our adventure ends here." Coco cooed to the cub.

Pura understood the situation and without warning, jumped, just making it on the other side.

Midori had her horse come to a halt. She looked at the gap before her horse jumped the gap, continuing the chase.

The road was barely visible with the pitch black night. No stars were present, and the moon was new, allowing no light to shine through. Coco was moving all over the place not sure where gaps or construction was located.

Suddenly, the ninja was right behind swiping her sword left and right. Coco did her best to avoid the movements, however the small girl felt grim. Pura let out a frightened howl when she noticed an unjumpable gap. She came to a screeching halt, accidently throwing Coco off her back. Coco screamed as she was sent crashing into a barrel. Pura mewed before running to her master. Coco could barely sit up as Midori dismounted and walked towards the girl.

Coco tried forcing herself to move, but her body was in to much pain.

Uka Uka floated in front of her.

"No where to run and no where to hide. You've been quite a chase, but now you will die. Kill her!" The maske commanded.

Midori aimmed ready her sword, ready to strike. When a boomarang type weapon flew through the night striking Midori on the head. She had actually felt pain, even UkaUka hadn't seen it coming.

"WHO WAS THAT!? SHOW YOURSELF!" Midori demanded.

From the shadows, a young woman appeared. Her wheat blond hair was kept in a long messy ponytail, with eyes of a dark crimson. The rest of her face was hidden by a dark washed out blue mask. She was simply adorned in white tank top, washed out blue cargos, washed out blue fingerless gloves and dark brown combat boots.

"It's not surprising that Dr. Cortex's little slaves would be picking on an innocent little girl." The mysterious young woman answered with a thick southern accent.

"Mind your business... Traitor!" Midori snarled.

"It is my business, lackey." The , mysterious minion, snapped.

"I've heard all about you, Amanda. Dr. Cortex made it clear he wanted you alive if we ever came across you."

Coco couldn't see much of Amanda's face, but her eyes were knitted into rage.

"So that creature hasn't forgotten about me?!" She growled.

Midori chuckled darkly. "Of course not. Nicholi filled me in on everything; it seems the two of you were very close once."

"Yes we were, but not anymore."

Uka Uka finally spoke. "Well it seems that you've come to us… Midori, with my protection, you should be able to subdue this pest."

"I will see to it."

Coco quietly attempted to flee, but Midori aimmed the sword to her throat.

"Stay right where you are! You will be finished off first."

The ninja swung her sword when she felt something ram into her back, knocking her over.

Midori turned to see Amanda standing over her.

"Leave the little girl out of this!" She snarled

"I'll rip your hair out!" Midori growled.

Amanda moved out of the way as Midori charged towards her.

The blond made her move as she rammed into Midori's back again. The renegade assistant was so quick, she looked like a blur.

Coco saw the blur, and Midori getting hit over and over along with the black aura radiating off of her. However, to Coco's surprise, Uka Uka was starting to get strained.

"This pest, she's depleating all of my energy!" The mask growled to himself.

Amanda seemed to figure out that Uka Uka was protecting Midori. Thinking to herself, she quickly took out her boomarang and quickly threw it at the mask. The mask didn't have enough time to react by the sudden attack as the boomarang hit him, forcing him to use the last of his magic to protect himself.

"It seems you used the last of your strength for yourself demon mask; how selfish of you." Amanda laughed, coldly.

"What are you?!" Uka Uka demanded.

"I am lab assistant number one… But like I said, I am Amanda: the failed experiment created by Dr. Neo Cortex."

"What did that little weasel do?!" Uka Uka demanded.

"Perhaps you should ask him; I'm not even sure what he's done, probably not very different to what he's done to her." She sighed, pointing towards Midori.

Uka Uka snarled vanishing, leaving Midori with only her wits.

Midori made one last effort to win the battle charging one last time towards the mysterious lab assistant. Which was a very stupid idea. Amanda rammed her fist into her face. Pura joined in as well, latching herself onto the ninja's leg. Midori howled in pain; unable to get either of the pests off of her.

"All right I surrender!" She cried.

Amanda stepped back and Pura rejoined Coco.

"Fool, you may have beaten me, but I will make sure Dr. Cortex knows you're here! And surely you will be captured!"

"It will be a dark day in hell when you will be able to capture me." Amanda replied with her cold laugh.

"Don't think this over either bandicoot, you and your brother will be stopped by one of us if not me." She then threw her smoke bomb on the ground, and she was gone.

"No honor, no respect." Amanda muttered to herself.

The assistant kneeled infront of Coco, her eyes had taken a gentle tone.

"You all right, sugar?" Her voice now was nice and relaxing.

"Yes, thank you for saving my life." Coco answered, grateful.

"I was just doing my duty."

"Midori's gone; she must have gone to back to base. Is she really going to tell Dr. Cortex about seeing you?" Coco asked, concerned.

Amanda's expression looked rather frightful.

"Definitly! Dr. Cortex will not let me out of his grasp, not with my abilities. I don't know how much longer I'll be able to run."

"Do you have any place to go?" Coco asked.

"Look, I understand your looking out for me, but I can't stay in one place more than once. I can't tell you where I'm staying or where am I going. It could be dangerous for me and everyone around me."

"I understand."

Amanda then handed her a crystal and a gem.

"Make sure you and your brother keep them safe." She said softly. "God only knows what will happen if Cortex gets them.

Coco nodded.

"I have to move… I don't how long it will be until I'm hunted again. You better head to the hub, your brother and that mask should be worried by now."

Coco teleported herself away.

Amanda looked at the ground.

"I have to stay ahead, or it will be game over."

Meanwhile, Crash was nearing the location of the crystal and the gems when suddenly Ramona jumped infront of him.

"How could you attack me?! I'm a woman!" She snarled.

"Really?! I seem to recall that ladies shouldn't be attacking innocent people for no good reason." Crash responded, coolly.

Ramona laughed coldly. "That does sound about right, but I'm afraid I've been modeled into an image that is unable to care."

Crash cringed. "These minions really can't think for themselves. Cortex has zapped them of everything they had."

Ramona was just about raise her staff when suddenly her communicator started beeping. Forcing to look down.

Crash took the distaction and knocked her off the path, causing her to get stuck in the clothes line.

"YOU CHEATED!" She screamed.

"Hey, you got distracted." Crash grinned.

Romana started cursing in Spanish as Crash took his prizes and returned to the hub.

As he came back, he noticed Coco looking at him.

"So how did things go?" She asked.

"Same old; Ramona tried to use her looks to her advantage. Of course that did little to catch me off my game." Crash smirked.

Coco rolled her eyes.

Suddenly all of the coordinates replaced by a single one.

"Where does this one lead?" Coco asked.

Crash activated it. "Looks like it leads to the Ice ages; probably one of Cortex's main minions waiting for me."

"Well how about…"

"You stay here, it might not be safe." Crash ordered.

"But, Crash…"

"Don't worry, I'll be fine."

"Sigh… All right." Coco sat on the ground next to the sleeping cub.

Crash took a deep breath as he jumped through the portal.
