Chapter 14 Everything we know
Amanda walked through the streets of the desolate futuristic city. The dismal atmosphere made her morbid
"Is this really what the future holds?" She thought to herself
She continued to walk until she heard the sound of footsteps from behind.
"I know someone's following me! Come out and show yourself!" She demanded.
From the shadows, Valerie emerged knife at her side.
"Dr. Cortex told us we might be able to find you here. You are to come with me at once." The assistant ordered.
"You minions always claim to give me orders, but you know I will never follow them."
"Well congratulations; why don't give yourself a medal for being a successful rebel?" Valerie shot back.
"Hmph… It least I was the only one in that castle to take matters into my own hands."
"What I don't understand is what Nicholi saw in you. He would always mention this and that, but I don't understand what made you so special."
"Wouldn't you like to know?" Amanda smirked, coldly.
"Hmph! You mean very little to us; all we need to do is ensure your immediate capture and return you to Dr. Cortex."
"Ha… The only way you'll do that is by taking me unconscious." The forgotten minion growled.
Valerie grinned eerily. "I don't think it should be that hard."
Valerie jumped in the air ready to plunge with her knife. Amanda quickly moved out of the way dodging the security systems that were around them. Valerie threw some sort of pod to reflect the lasers so she could pass quickly. Amanda didn't hesitate as she took one of the elevators to the midsection and ran along the narrow paths being careful not to fall to her doom.
Suddenly Ramona appeared in front of her, swinging her two bladed baton in the air.
"I came to put the odds in my favor. Can you evade us both?" She smirked.
Amanda jumped in the air landing behind her. She instantly felt the baton slam into her back, knocking her into the ground.
"You should think more clearly when you decide to land just behind me."
Valerie ran towards them. fuming.
"This is my battle!" She snarled.
"Think of it this way: if I join you, then we'll have a better chance of getting her." Romana explained.
"But you'll get half the glory." Valerie protested.
"Just shut up and help me."
Both girls attempted to lunge, but Amanda had managed to use her speed to stay ahead of them.
She jumped along the floating platforms making sure they didn't tip over while she crossed.
As she ran, she couldn't help but look back at the two minions chasing after.
Why would she go back? So she could be like them; be cold blooded monsters? She would never be able to live with herself if that fate would come to her. Most of the minions mentioned they barely remembered or had no memory of their former life, but Amanda doubted she would forget the pain she suffered. She didn't want to leave that fate to chance. She would stay ahead like she always did.
Amanda suddenly came to a dead end.
"Damn it." She snarled.
Valerie and Ramona appeared walking towards her.
"You have nowhere to go. If you come with us willingly, we won't hurt you." Valerie ordered.
"Not even a dent?!" Ramona gawked.
"We can be civil about this." Valerie explained.
Ramona cursed to herself in Spanish.
"Civil?! Taking me back to do something I don't want to do…?! To become like you…?! I don't think so?!"
Ramona glared coldly, while Valerie looked uneasy.
"But it's the best thing for you…" Valerie tried to reason, although she knew deep down that Amanda was right.
"How can it be best for me…?!You don't know what's best for me…?! You didn't know what I looked like until you discovered I was here!" The lost minion explained.
"You aren't thinking clearly traitor; we'll eventually catch up with you, so why don't just end this little rebellion and come back accept your future." Ramona sneered.
"No! You may think you'll be able to catch up with me, but you're wrong…. I'll keep going for as long as it…!" Amanda was cut off by a horrifying shock against her side. The pain was too much for her to bare and she crumpled to the ground. The forgotten minion was completely curious as to who managed to shock her when she turned around to see Craig, holding his cattle prod.
"You should be aware of what's behind; someone could be sneaking up behind you." The assistant said with a glazed expression in his eyes.
"It was just luck that you managed to get me." Amanda growled.
"You can tell yourself that, but you know that you have a hard time dealing with trackers." Craig said in a slick voice
"Bastard!"
"Hmph... Now it looks like the odds are in our favor." Ramona smirked from under her mask.
"You can't take me…! I will not let you!" Amanda tried to pull herself up; but with the pain in her side, she could barely move."
"That's not going to happen; now that we have you right where we want you, Valerie why don't you drive her unconscious." Craig gestured.
Valerie said nothing as she walked towards the lost minion. The minion raised her knife into the air as she prepared to strike.
"Go ahead…! Do it…! I dare you to stab me…! If you can that is!" Amanda spat, venomously.
Valerie held her knife in the air, but she found that she couldn't lower it. Remaining frozen, Valerie had to admit the reason why she didn't like Amanda wasn't because she was traitor; but it was because she liked Nicholi. She had a feeling Nicholi liked her too, but he seemed to be more into Amanda with; "Amanda this and Amanda that." and that was enough too make Valerie jealous. And if she did what she did what she did now, it would be out of spite. But when looking down at Amanda, she could see herself staring back at her. She couldn't hurt her; she couldn't drag back against her will. Nicholi made her promise she wouldn't hurt Amanda. And if she hurt Amanda, she would be hurting Nicholi. Valerie's knife fell to the ground.
"I can't… I can't do it." She sighed, defeated.
Amanda was genuinely stunned. "Why… Why didn't you?"
"If I hurt you, I'll be hurting Nicholi as well"
"But…"
"Just get out of here!"
Amanda forced herself to stand and was about run.
"NO! YOU'RE COMING WITH US!" Craig roared.
The minion was about to shock her again when Valerie grabbed her knife and slashed Craig in the arm.
Craig cried out in surprise by the sudden action. Ramona was also so surprise, that she just stood there. Amanda used that to her advantage and ran off.
"You bitch! You let her get away and the little conversation Chris overheard you and Crash having! Wait until Dr. Cortex hears about that to! Craig snarled as he roughly grabbed her arm.
"Let's just head back to base." Ramona sighed.
Amanda finally reached the crystal and 2 gems and found herself being warped to the hub.
Amanda looked around to see Crash and Coco nowhere in sight.
Pura bounced up to her, wanting attention. The minion patted the cub's head before set the crystals down on the ground. Amanda noticed two other coordinates had been completed. It looked like almost all of the treasures had been collected; and that Cortex would be the last challenge. She decided to leave that up to Crash. She was not ready to confront her maker, not yet.
Amanda looked down at her side and lifted her shirt to see the gruesome burn. She wasn't really worried about though, it would heal within a couple of weeks in it's own. She knew it would heal faster if she went to a doctor, but she would wait until she got back to Europe.
Amanda walked towards to the edge of the hub, looking down into the cold dark waters below.
She would swim to the mainland and then sneak on a cargo ship to get out of here. With her enhanced body, she would have no problem reaching the mainland swimming.
She looked back at the hubs one last time.
She was completely amazed that she even back after all this time. Maybe it was spite or her conscious got the best of her, but she still wasn't ready to look Cortex in the eyes. And she hoped she never had to.
She finally closed her eyes and plunged into the dark waters below.
Meanwhile Crash and Coco were flying their own planes as they were trying to take out the last enemy plane that was part of Cortex's army.
Numerous minions were surrounding them; trying to knock them out the sky. There had only been five enemy planes, but they all had been equipped with a sturdy engine on each wing. Which was taking a longer time to take the planes down. Crash decided to take one engine and Coco would take the other.
The siblings would fire for as long as they could before they got to close to the plane and it would fire their guns at them; forcing the siblings to back and wait to the guns subsided. Once they were out of the firing radius they would continue firing their guns until Crash finally broke off his engine.
"Come on Coco; just take out that last engine and we're done." Crash encouraged.
Coco continued to fire, but got too close and was forced to move back from the radius.
When it was clear again, Coco went back in and continued shooting until finally the last engine broke and all enemy planes were out of the sky.
A crystal and gem appeared in Crash's lap and they were teleported back to the hub.
Pura walked up to them; showing them the crystal and gems that appeared out of nowhere.
"How did these get here?" Crash asked himself, but decided not to go beyond that.
"So how many left?" Coco asked.
"One last crystal and 2 more gems." Her brother answered.
"We're nearing the end!"
Crash put all of their prizes in his backpack.
"We're going to take them with us… We're not coming back to the hub after this."
"Why…" Coco asked.
"After we come back, the last coordinate will appear and Cortex will be waiting for us. But I have a plan." Crash explained.
"I don't like that." Coco whimpered.
"There should be a way that we can sneak into the main center of the time twister; and we can catch Cortex and Uka Uka by surprise, giving us an advantage. Coco do you think there can be a way that you can shut down the time twister?"
"Yes… But it'll be risky… I think I also know a way we can imprison Uka Uka."
"Well…"
"If you can defeat Cortex, we can send him back somewhere where he has no chance of getting back here, then hopefully I can find a safe way to destroy the machine."
"Then what about Uka Uka?" Crash asked.
"We can use the crystals and gems to seal him; combined they should be strong enough to keep him contained, hopefully forever."
"Well, we only have one chance to do this… Are you ready?" Crash asked.
"Yes…I'm ready. Pura come on!"
The three looked down at the ground grimly before they all jumped through portal, prepared to end everything.
That's the end of this chapter. This is last you'll see of Amanda in this fic. But she will appear again in the future. We only have 2 more chapters and the Epilogue before this fic is completed. So stay tuned.
