Chapter 2
I paced the floor back and forth as Cake played video games on B-MO. My hands were sweaty and balled into fists. I felt weird. The thought about that strange vocalist refused to leave my mind; I just couldn't stop thinking about that guy!
"What's wrong with you girl? You've been on the edge since yesterday." Cake pointed out as she pounded the buttons on the controller she was handling. She gasped when she finally won the level. "Momma just saved the Prince for the evil witch! Take that B-Ma! There isn't a game I can't beat!" She said happily, finally beating the level she had been stuck on for the past few days.
Rolling my eyes, I put on my multicolored green book bag. I needed to get out of here, get some air. Seeing I couldn't think to myself, I would just go take a walk. Hopefully that would make me feel better.
Cake looked at me, "Where are you going?" She asked confused, setting the controller on the living room table. Standing up, she stretched out her limbs. She felt so happy now, finally beating that stupid level.
I opened the door, "I'll be back in a little bit, I need to... think about some things." I mumbled to her, a light blush burning my cheeks. I got chills as a cold breeze brushed past me. It seemed windy today, good. Maybe that would cool down my cheeks, this happened to me every time I thought about him. I couldn't help it, the guy just trapped himself in my head.
The cat nodded, "Alright, be careful and don't talk to strangers!" She called as I closed the door behind me. Yawning to herself, she smirked at B-MO. "I'm going to go take a catnap. Try to make a harder level for me." She said, only receiving a roll of its eyes as she stretched herself upstairs.
I hugged myself as the cold wind went through me, I should have grabbed a jacket. Ignoring the chills, I quickened my step as I left the tree could I do? Ice Queen could be up to trouble so checking on her wouldn't be a bad minutes later, I reached the icy surface. The temperature was now beyond freezing and I couldn't feel my fingers. Blowing hot air on them, I shivered. I really should have grabbed a jacket.
Walking up to Ice Queens castle, quietness surrounded me. All of her lights were out so she was sleeping, great. Came here for nothing it seemed. Turning around, I made my way back towards the grassland. Cake could be worried about me, but she was probably too busy celebrating the fact she beat that stupid level.
Kicking a piece of ice, I watched it roll down and hit more ice. Sighing softly, I continued walking; the only sound around me was the crunching under my shoes as I walked on the hard snow. This would be perfect for a snowball fight, if only my sister was here. When I hit the grass, I decided I'd make my second and final visit to the Sweet and Sour. I had to tell Marshall Lee that I wasn't that type of girl, only wanting to be an adventuress. I wasn't made for this kind of life, I needed more excitement.I grabbed the handle to the bar and nervousness settled in and my heart beat quickened, a feeling that was very unfamiliar to me. Sighing, I opened the door and walked in.
The smell of sugar hit me like a brick and I found an empty table in the back, this place was full just like yesterday. Marshall Lee wasn't playing yet so I sat back and listened to close conversations but nothing was very interesting. I wasn't paying enough attention to notice the Vampire King himself float over to me.
"Well well well, what do we have here?" Marshall asked with a smirk. He had his eyes locked on that door ever since I had first left. He must have really wanted to see me again. Happiness filled him when he noticed me come in and take a seat.
I looked up and my eyes widened. I had just come in and he was already here! The thoughts of telling him what was up slowly became weaker than they were when I first thought of it. I looked down and blushed, "H-Hey." I mumbled to him, trying to fight off the new blush.
Marshall sat down across from me, "Hello there Fionna, I didn't think you'd be back so soon to tell the truth. Did you come to see me?" He asked with a forming grin. He was actually really excited to see me. He was glad I came.
I tried my best to glare but it became impossible, "Actually... I did..." I mumbled, forcing myself to look into those crimson eyes of his. They looked do deep, I'd probably just drown in them.
He smiled softly, "About?" He asked, his eyes never leaving mine. Resting his arms on the table, he kept his hands together, his expression staying the same.
"Um..." I looked away, forgetting what I came here to tell him. That was just great, I knew I had it all planned out in my head. Seeing him in front of me though, I'm completely blank now. What should I say to him now?
"Wanna come backstage with me?" He asked suddenly as he began standing up, putting his hand out for me to grab. That caring look on his face⦠I couldn't object.
My hand grabbed his and my legs moved with his as girls watched in jealousy when we passed them. "Everyone's staring..." I pointed out with a darker blush. I felt like they'd all corner me in a room and beat the crap out of me just because of me hanging out with this Vocalist. I knew I could take them but still, I don't want anyone hating me.
He looked back at me, "Who cares? Let them stare." He huffed, not interested in any of them one bit. They were all boring to him; he wanted one with some spark in her, not one that would just throw themselves at his feet.
I found a smile forming on my lips as we went he wasn't the type of guy who would use his status to get any girl he wanted. I would have had to show him my sword if I found he was a predator or something. We stopped in front of a group of dudes.
"Guys, this is Fionna." Marshall introduced. "Fionna this is my band." He said with a smirk. This was one of the first girls to come back and meet everyone. He was slightly afraid I'd be scared or something but was shocked when I gave them all a smile.
Their transparent skin showed that they were ghost, I waved shyly. "Hey, it's nice to meet you all." I said with a friendly tone. I've never seen these guys before either. Who were all of these people and where did they come from?
The drummer smiled at me, "You too." He said, giving off a friendly atmosphere, causing me to relax a bit.
I felt Marshall's arm wrap around my waist and I began to feel uncomfortable again. Why was he touching me like this, as if we were actually together or something? I didn't know him well enough. Maybe I should show him my sword/
"We'll be over there, don't bother us." Marshall ordered, the ghost drummer literally pulled me over to a table across the room and I looked around. Why am I suddenly so scared? Nothing wrong with two friends talking in a darkened room, to be afraid of at all.
A friend? No, he was a vampire guy who I just met yesterday who I know literally nothing about. That pretty much summed it all up at once. I never felt nervous or scared before, at least not by a creature that wasn't that threatening.
"Fionna?" Marshall called out confused, taking me out of my thoughts.
"Yeah?" I asked quietly, squirming slightly in my seat.
He laughed quietly, "I asked if you liked my music." He repeated, watching me with a glint of interest in his eyes.
I smiled, pushing down all of these feelings. "I do. I've never heard of anything like it." I explained as I traced shapes onto the table. The table seemed to calm me down so this was the only thing that kept me from running away.
He leaned forward and lightly placed his hand onto of mine, stopping them from drawing another shape. "I write all these songs by experiences, you could come over sometime and listen if you want. I live in the ice kingdom if you-"
I stood up and frowned at him, "actually I wouldn't Marshall. I don't know what you're trying to do but it's not going to work, I'm not that kind of girl." Picking up my bag, I turned but gave him one last glance. "It was nice meeting you."
"Fionna!" He called but I was already gone, rushing out of the candy bar without another word. Marshall looked down at his hand sadly before running his fingers through his thick hair.
