Even a Moment/ Ch. 8 – Treasure
{Seaford High School Lunch Room}
Calm down, Kim. You've got this. You'll show her up. You'll regain their trust. You've got this. Calm down. Kim ran her fingers through her freshly curled hair. She took one last look at herself in her compact mirror. She had decided to wear those expensive clothes she didn't like. One way to show off to Alexa, right? She was wearing a blue, sleeveless, collared blouse. She could barely understand the brand name, but it was expensive. She paired it with cream white skinny jeans, and blue flats that matched her blouse. Her hair was curled, and she had some make-up on. She carried a purse as well.
Here we go. Kim pushed the doors to the lunch room, and smiled. She saw people turn, and some stayed looking at her. She looked over at Jack's table. Eddie, Milton, and Jerry were turned, eyes wide and mouths gaping. She noticed Alexa, who has a scowl on her face. After a moment, Jack turned, and he raised his eyebrows. Show up Alexa with a new look? Check.
Kim smirked as she walked over to her table with Mae. "Hey," Kim said, flipping some of her hair over her shoulder. "What's up?"
"What's up with me?" Mae raised her eyebrows. "Kim you look-" Mae stopped herself. "You always look amazing, just…enhanced." She smiled. Kim smiled back.
"Thanks," she added, "did you see the way they looked at me?" She whispered excitedly. "They were gaping and then did you see Jack?" Mae nodded, smiling. "It was a perfect entrance." Kim smirked. She took a breath. "They won't know what hit them."
"You're really into this." Mae began. "Be careful, alright?" She added. "You don't know what Alexa can do."
"Oh, don't worry," Kim softened a bit, "I won't do anything bad. I'll just get my friends back." Kim smirked before taking a glance at Jack's table. Expect the unexpected.
{Crawford Residence}
Kim entered the mansion with Kaylee trailing behind her. Kim stopped when she smelled something. Is that…food? Kim raised her eyebrows. Who's- The sisters stopped when they entered the kitchen, and there stood Mrs. Crawford, cooking. Mom?! "Mom?!" Kaylee beat Kim at greeting their mom. "What are you doing here?!"
"Is it wrong to take a break and see my daughters?" Kim took a breath. You said that work can't be left behind. Kim crossed her arms. "Kaylee, you look beautiful." Mrs. Crawford smiled. "Kim! You're wearing the clothing I've bought you." Mrs. Crawford noted. "You look wonderful."
"Thanks," Kim said bitterly, "I'm going to change my clothes." She said, turning away. She rushed out of the kitchen, leaving Kaylee behind with their mother.
"What's up with your sister?" Mrs. Crawford asked.
"Well, you haven't exactly been around, mom." Kaylee smiled, moving over to stand by her mother. "She'll cool off, I know Kim." Kaylee added.
"Thanks for being there for your older sister." Mrs. Crawford sighed. "I won't be back for a bit, but I know I'll be back to help in Kim's birthday bash." Kaylee furrowed her eyebrows. "I know your sister isn't into a big bash, but I can't read her." Mrs. Crawford said. "She wants a big bash, she doesn't want a big bash," Mrs. Crawford shook her head. "I want to surprise her."
"Good luck on that." Kaylee nodded a bit. "I'm going to wash up, and I'll set the table."
"Three plates, your father isn't home." Mrs. Crawford said. Kaylee sighed.
"Like always." She mumbled, and left the kitchen.
{Crawford Mansion – Dinner Time}
"So, Kaylee, how is school?" Mrs. Crawford asked. "How are you and your friends?"
"I'm doing good," Kaylee began, "good grades, and good friends." She added. She took a breath. "Um, I'm good."
"That's great," Mrs. Crawford said softly, "Kim, how is school for you? Cheerleading? The dojo?" She smiled.
"Good," Kim shrugged. She looked down at the floor, and sighed. "Everything is great."
"How are your friends?" Mrs. Crawford smiled. "Those boys, one of them is named Jack, yes?" Kim took a breath. They're doing horrible, and they are no longer my friends.
"We're doing great, my friends and I hung out recently." Kim lied. She stuffed some food in her mouth, hoping her mom would stop talking to her. Mrs. Crawford nodded, and looked over at Kaylee. Thank God. Kim stopped eating. She sighed. "I'm full." She mumbled. "I've got tons of homework." She added. "Good night."
"Good night," Mrs. Crawford said softly. Kaylee watched as Kim left the table, and headed up to her room.
Kim sighed as she fell back onto her bed. She groaned, grabbed a pillow, covered her mouth, and screamed. We don't need you here, mom. You can't pretend that we're close, because we're not. My friends aren't fine. I'm not fine. School sucks. Kim took a breath. You'll never understand. Kim sat up and sighed. She turned away from her door, and bit her lip.
Stay strong, Kim. You've got this. Jack isn't talking to you, but that'll all change, right? They know you can clean up well. You've got to show your confidence. Show them what you've got.
They'll never know what hit them.
