Chapter 10: Mutiny

Bella was sitting outside of her house reading a book when she heard a car pull up. "Hey Alice," she greeted.

"Hey," Alice answered closing the door.

"What's up?" She asked.

"Nothing much, just seeing what you are up to," Alice replied sitting down next to her.

Bella closed her book and sighed. "Just thinking," she admitted.

"Ooh what about?" Alice asked curiously.

Bella sat back against the rail of her porch. "You're thinking about Edward," Alice sad suddenly.

"How did you know?" Bella asked not looking up.
"Because you have been acting really depressed since we came back to Forks," she replied.

Bella sighed and played with the ring on her finger. "Alice what do I do?" She asked. Alice was silent and moved her fingers through her short hair.

"I could tell you to follow Carlisle's advice, but I know that won't help," Alice replied.

The young woman shook her head slowly and swallowed. "I think about him…all the time. I dream about him, but I feel horrible because Jake is such a good guy," she explained. Alice rested her hand on Bella's ankle, biting her lower lip. "I shouldn't be doing this to him, I shouldn't," she muttered.

"Then why are you still with him?" Alice asked.

"I will never see Edward again that's why," Bella replied.

Alice sighed and sat back against the other railing. "So…you'll stay with Jacob because Edward isn't here?" She asked.

"I'll forget he existed, I'll forget that he ever came into my life," Bella replied, trying to convince herself.

"You say it, but do you believe you'll forget about Edward?" Alice asked.

Bella sighed, moving her fingers through her hair. "Eventually," she replied quietly. She looked up when Jacob pulled up on his motorcycle and got off after turning it off and putting the kickstand down.

"Hey Bella…Alice," Jacob muttered to the smaller vampire.

"Jacob," Alice answered.

He kissed Bella briefly with a small smile. "Ready?" He asked.

"Going somewhere?" Alice asked.

"If you must know the movies," Jacob growled a little.

Bella gripped her boyfriend's hand. "Jake knock it off," she told him.

"Call me later!" Alice called.

"I will," Bella answered.

Jacob handed her the helmet and she got on the bike, wrapping her arms around his waist once he was settled in his seat. Jacob started up the motorcycle and drove off.

Edward was standing on a roof watching as people were trying to hurry home from a long day of work or they were heading to work. "Which one smells great?" James asked anxiously. Edward crouched down on the roof, gripping the side of it. His eyes scanned people, his mind opened to their thoughts. He gestured with his head for the coven to follow him.

They swung down from a fire escape when they heard screaming. "Sounds like someone's having fun," James chuckled. Edward glared at him. He climbed up the side of a building and looked into the alley were the screaming came from. He saw three muggers attacking a young woman. A deep growl came from his throat, the girl looked almost identical to his Bella. The muggers looked up to see where the growl came from.

Edward jumped from his hiding space and landed on top of the mugger that was directly over the woman. Laurent and James went after the other two. The man struggled for a just a second, but then Edward snapped his neck. He heard the girl scream again and saw Victoria grabbing onto her. "No!" He growled.

"What you just get the fun?" Victoria snapped.

"Let her go, now," Edward ordered.

Victoria hissed and let the girl go, the young woman falling back to the ground. Edward gently grabbed her hand and handed her ripped purse back to her. "Thank you!" She said fearfully.

"Now, go, hurry," he told her.

The girl took off running out of the alley. "We don't attack innocent people anymore," he told them. He grabbed a hold of the mugger he killed and threw the body towards Victoria. Victoria hissed but she fed off the body anyways. Edward climbed back up the walls and went to find his own food source.

Afterwards, they were sitting on the rooftops, watching the evening traffic drive by. He could hear his coven whispering about him, but he didn't care at the moment. "From now on, we don't kill innocent, you will let me decide who we kill," he informed.

"And why should we?" James asked.

"Because I'm the leader and I said that's how it goes," Edward replied.

"I don't think you should be the leader of the coven," James said suddenly.

Edward stood up from the his spot and glared at James. "Really?" He asked.

"You stopped being the leader the moment you let that girl go," James told him.

Victoria was crouched in front of her mate with a grin. "If anyone should be leader of this coven it should be me," he added.

"I think that is a challenge," Edward answered.

"That's exactly what it is," James retorted.

James charged at Edward who dodged his attack easily, but then James attacked again, knocking him onto his back. Edward growled and grabbed James by his arm, throwing him aside.

The two vampires started fighting each other, trying to bite the other but the other was too quick. James grabbed a hold of Edward's shirt and threw the former leader of the coven over the side of the building.

Edward hit the ground with a loud crack, breaking the sidewalk under him. He went to get up when James stood above him, slamming his foot into his chest. Edward groaned and tried to get him off when Victoria and Laurent grabbed a hold of his arms. "I believe I have won the place as leader," James sneered. Victoria stood above Edward, gripping his head in her hands.

"Let's destroy him," she said grinning.

James chuckled. "No, we won't kill him," he answered.

"What should we do with him then?" Laurent asked curiously.

"Leave him, because what we'll be doing he'll only wish he'd be dead," James answered.

Victoria grinned as she ran her nail along Edward's jaw. "And what would that be?" She asked curiously.

"The one thing Edward ordered us not to touch, well I'm leader and I say let's go get that human girl of his," he chuckled.

"Don't you touch her!" Edward snapped.

"I can and I will," James answered.

Before he could stop them, the nomads were gone. "No no!" He hissed. He got up from the ground and started going through shortcuts he hadn't used in so long. His shortcuts back to Forks, back to Bella.
