Chapter 6:
May, 2012
"I am going to be so sore tomorrow, I just want to sleep!" Kelly complained to her new friends as they walked out of yet another day of hard, rigorous training.
"I know, but just think about how glad you'll be when we are standing on top of the platform, waving to our fans, singing "Star Spangled Banner"." Payson replied to her friends, fantasizing about the monumental event that was coming closer every day.
"Earth to Payson" Lauren said trying to snap her friend back to reality.
"Sorry, so I was thinking, Kaylie is still really let down about the whole Austin thing, so what if we all hung out tonight and did something fun to get her mind off of things. I'm really concerned for her. Last time something big like this happened, she almost died. We really need to make sure she is staying on track."
All of the girls nodded their heads in agreement, wanting to protect their friend. Anyone could tell how this breakup was affecting Kaylie. Sometimes, Payson thought it was a good thing because it allowed her to focus on her gymnastics more, but other times Kaylie seemed so distant, and she really was concerned for her friend.
Today at practice, Kaylie had finally landed her Mustafina vault. Which is a good thing. Vault is her strong suit and probably one if not the only events she will compete in if she makes the Olympic team. Her being able to land these amazing vaults is what will help her to excel while she strives for London.
However, right now she is as fragile as glass. Her parents were in court all day, continuing their divorce. She lost Austin after she told him that she loved him. This was the first time since Carter that she had let herself fall of someone and this is what happened. If there was anything that she learned from her parents it was that love doesn't exist. It's just an illusion. She was fooling herself to even think that there could possibly be a future between her and Austin.
Emily and Kelly were hanging out together at the smoothie shop near the training center. Lately, they had been hanging out a lot together. They had an unspoken agreement that they wouldn't talk about babies or anything like that unless one of them needed to. They didn't pry the other for more details into their past and just left things the way that they were.
"Hey Pay, how was training today?" Kim asked her daughter as she sat down on the couch next to her.
"Oh my God Mom, it was so amazing. Every day we get closer and closer to London. But, there's one thing that Emily, Kelly, Lauren, and I are concerned about." Payson said thinking about ways that she could get advice from her mom on how to deal with the whole Kaylie thing.
"It's Kaylie, right?" Kim knew that something had been going on for a few days now with the young gymnast. It all started a few days ago when Kaylie came out of Kelly's room, clearly upset, but before Kim could get to her and find out what was wrong, Kaylie had already stormed off into the bathroom, where she remained for at least another forty minutes before coming out. Kim wasn't exactly sure what had happened in the bathroom, but she definitely had her suspicions. The last thing that she wanted to happen was for one of her daughter's friends to have a relapse and end up with bulimia this time. She cared about everyone of these girls, like they were second daughters and there was no way that she was going to let one of her girls get injured or injure themselves on her watch.
"Yeah, How did you know? Anyways, Austin broke up with her the other night, right after she told him that she loved him. Ever since then, she seems like she could crack at any moment. None of us know what to do. We were thinking of all having dinner here together and then watching a movie together before going to bed. But, none of us really know how to make her feel better. Even Austin tried. Last time she had her heart broken, it didn't take long for her to develop anorexia, and we are all nervous about what will happen if something doesn't happen to get her mind on track. Last time, Austin stepped in and that's why the disease didn't progress as far as it could have before something else happened. But now, none of us know what to do. We try to get closer to her and find out what's happening, and she just pushes us away. We asked Austin to do something, but the same thing that happened to us, happened to him. We are all just so nervous, and we don't know what to do." Payson confessed it all to her mom, hoping that maybe Kim could offer some insight to her current situation.
"Oh honey, I know this must be hard. Kaylie is going through a lot right now, but all you can do is support her. I think that the plan you girls have for tonight is great. You just have to be sensitive to what she is going through. Ronnie and Alex were in court again today so that just adds another thing that can bother her. As long as you girls stick by her side, I think that everything is going to be okay. I will make sure to keep an eye on her too okay sweetie?" Kim said assuring her daughter that everything would be okay,
All of the girls were gathered around the table about to eat when Lauren decided that maybe they should say a prayer.
"Hey guys wait lets pray" Lauren said as the girls were about to dig in. Most of the gymnasts were hesitant at first, but eventually they conceded to the wishes of the blonde.
"Dear heavenly Father, thank you for bringing all of us together. Thanks to you we were each given amazing talents which we will use to become the best that we can be. While we don't always do what you wish, you forgive us time, and time again, and for that we are greatful. Oh lord, please continue to watch over us and keep us strong, especially during these trying times in our lives. In your name oh Lord, Amen." Lauren ended the prayer.
Kim was the first to respond. "Very nice Lauren, thank you." The other girls around the table nodded their heads in agreement, trying to support their friends new religious ways.
"Thanks Mrs. Keeler, ever since the surgery, Summer has turned me onto praying before anything that I am grateful for, and I think that its really helping, especially with my mom's uh anniversary coming up. I think that this prayer keeps me strong."
Kaylie went to her room half way through watching The Lucky One, feeling tired to get ready for bed. She hadn't really paid that much attention to the movie, instead remembering what Lauren said during dinner. Maybe it was time she put a little faith into her life. It couldn't hurt after all.
Before getting into bed that night, Kaylie knelt at the side of her bed and decided to give praying a try. If it helped Lauren, it couldn't hurt her, right?
Author's Note: It feels good to be righting again. You know what would feel even better though, to get reviews so please R&R.
