Chapter 6: The Orphan meets The Knight
(Miguel's POV)
It was 8am. 4 hours since I came to work. I was currently lifting boxes of decorations and bringing it downstairs. The theme for tonight was under the sea. The walls of the club were already decorated in blue. I don't know how the blue stuff got on the walls. I mean yesterday there was no blue, today there was blue on the walls. It must have been put up when I left last night. There were fishes also on the walls too. Not real ones obviously. They were going to be in a fish tank. The real fishes not the fake ones on the walls. I saw some of the other workers taping up more decorations on the walls. Things like clams, starfishes….and mermaids. I love mermaids. I found it cool that they have tails and could breathe underwater. I wish they were real…..but maybe they are.
I set the boxes on the floor and went back up the metal stairs onto the balcony that overlooked the dance floor, tables, and bar counter. I was a bit scared since the balcony was so high. "Don't look down, you'll just get more scared" I told myself as I entered the storage room. I grabbed a couple of boxes and went back onto the balcony. I leaned sideways so I can see who else was downstairs. Nobody was there anymore. "Damn it, I'm alone until 10…. or 12 if everyone else decides to leave me alone here until 12….at least half of the decorations are up" I thought as I was now going down the stairs. Unfortunately, I stumbled and tripped over my foot. I let out a high-pitched and girly scream as I started falling down the stairs. Yes, I have a really high-pitched, girly scream. My boss and my co-workers look for opportunities to scare me, just to hear my girly scream so they can laugh. I hate it.
"Shit, I'm falling! I don't want to hurt myself!" I thought as the floor got closer. I closed my eyes and waited for the pain. I felt arms wrap around me and my body hitting something hard. But it wasn't the floor. I was confused. Me and the person fell to the floor. I groaned and slowly opened my eyes and I was shocked. My face was inches away from…Kain's face. I felt myself blush. Man, I am blushing a lot lately. "Hey" Kain said. I tried to talk but I couldn't. I also noticed I was on top of him. I was practically straddling him. I quickly got off him and backed away. As I backed away, I slipped on some decorations and fell backwards…..into a box of decorations. "Why? Why am I so clumsy today?" I thought. I was embarrassed. A shadow came over me and I looked up to see Kain there. I knew he would start laughing at me. I can see the smile on his face.
"Here" he said as he extended a hand to me. "Aren't you going to laugh? I must've looked stupid" I said. "You did" he said with a smile. I just pouted. "That was rude" I said. "I know" he said. I just pouted even more. "Do you want to get out or not?" he asked as he still had his hand extended to me. "Y-Yes" I said as I extended my hand out to Kain. "I want to get out" "Then hold on" he said as he my arm and pulled me up. To be honest, I secretly wanted him to grab my hand and not my arm. I wanted to hold his hand…..that sounded gay…a-and I'm not….
"Why are you carrying all those boxes?" Kain asked. "Oh….um, they're decorations for tonight's theme which is under the sea" I said. "That explains why the walls are blue and why there are mermaids on the walls" he said looking around. "Yeah" I laughed. "Do you need any help?" he asked. "But don't you have to work?" I asked. "Nothing eventful is happening. And I can't let a fine boy as yourself, do this all by himself" he said as he smirked at me. I blushed and laughed a bit. "Okay, you can help but you need to hide that first" I said as I pointed at his steel chest plate. "Well, where can I hide this then?" he asked as he took off his steel chest plate. "Um, oh there's a sliding cabinet behind the bar counter. I'll put it there for now" I said. "Thanks" he said as he gave me his chest plate. It was just a little bit heavy but I managed to carry it behind the bar counter. I bent down and opened the sliding cabinet. I put the chest plate in the cabinet and slid the door closed. "There!" I said happily as I stood back up. I walked back over to Kain. "I hid it" I said. "What do we do now?" he asked. "We have to finish putting up the decorations" I said pointing to the boxes. "Oh okay" he said as he walked to one of the boxes.
We were putting up decorations when I remembered something. I gasped. "What's wrong?" Kain asked. "I just remembered my friend is coming today. You get to meet my best friend!" I said happily. "Really?" he asked. "Yup, she's coming today. I think she'll be here soon" I said looking towards the stairs that led to the exit. "You're talking about the girl you live with, right?" he asked. "Yup" I answered. "She's your best friend?" he asked. "Yup, ever since we first met. We were toddlers then. I was 3 and she was 2" I said with a smile. "She's younger" he said. "Yeah. I'm almost a year older than her. I'm, like 10 or 11 months older. We don't really know" I said. "Oh okay, I'm excited to meet her" he said. "She's a bit slow when it comes to common sense. I'm not saying she's dumb; she's actually pretty smart but when it comes to common sense and dirty jokes she's…um…a bit slow at understanding them. Wait, that's an understatement….she's really slow at understanding them. She's a derp. Sometimes she's just missing out on the humor of them" I said. I looked at Kain to see him raising an eyebrow at me. I then realized that I just implied I was a pervert. W-Well I am…..I blushed and laughed nervously. "A-Anyways she's coming so you'll meet her" I said. "You said that already" he said. "I know" I said. "I don't mind that you're a pervert" he said with a smirk. "What?!" I shouted as I jumped up. "Just because I understand and find dirty jokes funny doesn't make me that much of a pervert" Kain raised his other eyebrow and smirked at me. I realized I just admitted that I was a pervert. "Fine, I admit it. I am a pervert" I said with a sigh as I sat on the floor again. "It's okay, most people are perverts so don't worry about it" he said as he was taping up a fish. "He is so nice. He's helping me decorate and he doesn't care that I'm a bit of a pervert. He's a great person. He'd be perfect for me. I-If I was a girl. Ha-ha….that does not sound gay or wrong at all….I think….
(Takuma's POV)
I am glad that I am out of the castle so early. It was 10 am now. I spent most of the morning studying because my grandfather told me to…more like forced. He says I'm not smart enough. But I am. Not because Nikki told me to I am. I am still grateful she said that. Believe me when she said those things about me. I thought it was a dream. Anyways if I was 8 years-old I would be in high school because of all that knowledge was crammed down my throat. That's if we had schools in this town. I was approaching Kaname's house now. I hope he's there today. I wanted to tell him about what happened yesterday. I knocked on the door and I heard Kaname say "It's open you can come in" I opened the door, stepped in, and closed the door behind me. I turned around and was tackled to the ground. I opened my eyes to see a familiar color of wine-colored eyes staring down at me. I smiled. "Hi Yuki" I said. She smiled at me. "Hi Takuma-sempai" she said with a smile. "Has your hair gotten longer?" I asked as I looked at her long, dark brown that reached her waist. "No why?" she asked. "It looks longer" I said. "Oh really? I haven't noticed" she said as she touched her hair. "Congratulations!" she added happily. "Huh?" I asked. "I said congratulations" she said. "Why?" I asked confused. "Because…." She started as she grabbed my cheeks. "You have a crush on a girl!" I would have done a double take. I was shocked. "I'm proud. You finally have a crush on a girl"
I craned my neck to the side to see a boy with silver hair and lilac-colored eyes. My eyes widened when I saw Zero there. "H-How'd you guys find out?" I asked still shocked.
"I told them"
I looked at Kaname, who was sitting at the table drinking out of a glass which I guessed was full of red wine. "Kaname, it was supposed to be a secret!" I whined as I pouted. "You didn't say it had to be a secret" Kaname said calmly as he took another sip of his wine. Did he just outsmart me? I don't know but he was right. I didn't say it was supposed to be a secret. "Who's the lucky girl?" Yuki asked happily. "Yuki, how about you get off of Takuma and he'll tell you" Kaname suggested. "Okay! Come on Takuma; let's go sit on the couch and talk. You to Zero-kun!" Yuki said happily as she got off me. She grabbed my wrist and dragged me to the couch, grabbing Zero in the process. All three of us sat on the couch. "So, tell us who she is" Yuki said happily. "Um…ah…."I started as I started to blush. "Come on, just spit it out!" Zero said. "Well, her name is Nikki" I started. I looked at Zero and then Yuki to see them staring at me with wide eyes. "Nikki? As in Nikki Luna? The 14-year-old with the purple highlights and is a thief?" Zero asked. "With the scary friend?" Yuki asked. "Yes, that's her" I said. "Wow. I never thought you would dig bad girls, Takuma" Zero said with a smirk. I tilted my head in confusion. 'He means he never thought you would like bad girls. Neither did I" Yuki said. "She's not that bad. I mean I found that out when I carried her home yesterday" I said.
Kaname, who had been silent, piped up. "You carried her home?!" he asked in surprise. "Well yeah, she injured her leg so I carried her home" I said. Yuki gasped. "What?" I asked. "You already starting to win her over" Yuki said. "Huh? No, I just wanted to help her" I said. "Even though it wasn't conscious, you were still trying to win her over" Kaname said. "Really?" I asked. "Yeah, you must really like her then" Zero said. "Yeah, I do" I said as I looked down, embarrassed. "Awww, look Zero-kun, onii-san, Takuma-sempai's blushing!" Yuki squealed. I sighed. "Alright! Let's start mission get Nikki to like Takuma-sempai!" Yuki said happily as she jumped up and raised her fist in the air. "Eh?!" I said, surprised. "That seems like a challenge" Zero said. "No, it's a mission" Kaname said. I was beginning to get nervous. Just what are they going to do to me?
(Nikki's POV)
I was walking to the club. My leg was feeling a bit better so I could walk properly but I still had gauze on my leg. I was daydreaming of course because it's one of my hobbies. I daydream a lot. I was daydreaming what the town would look like if it was covered in rainbows. What? I think of many crazy things. I think it'd be pretty cool if the town was covered in rainbows. I happen to like rainbows. And stars, moons, the color purple, the color blue, sparkles…..so what if I'm like a little girl. At least I'm preserving my childishness…..if that's a word. I finally arrived at the club.
(Miguel's POV)
Me and Kain were finished putting up the decorations and we were now just sitting at the bar counter, talking to each other. We were just talking about our lives and stuff. Kain makes me laugh. Some of the stuff he says are just so funny. I don't know why everyone is scared of him. Sure he's tall, muscular, and a Knight but if you look past that you just see a kind, funny, regular guy. I like him. Not in that way. That would be weird. "What are you thinking about?" Kain asked. "Huh?" I said as I came out of my thoughts. "You were just staring into space" he said. "What?! I'm not thinking of anything!" I said nervously as I started blushing. I'm not thinking about him! I'm not! I knew I wasn't convincing. He was about to speak when I sensed someone just outside the club. I turned my head to the entrance and smiled. "What's wrong?" I heard Kain ask. "She's here" I answered.
(Kain's POV)
We were just talking and then Miguel turns to the entrance saying his friend is here. "Now you'll get to meet her" he said happily. I was actually kind of nervous to meet his friend. The only things I know about her is that she's a girl, she's younger than Miguel, and that she can be oblivious to things. I wondered what she looked like and what her personality is. I wondered if she was pretty also. Miguel was pretty, hot and he looked good. In general of course. He has told me that lots of people flirt with him. Boys and Girls. That made me a bit jealous. I felt like he should be with me and only me. Maybe I actually like him? No, that'd mean I would be gay. I'm not like that….I think. I heard a door open and close. "Yoho, Miguel are you here?" a female voice asked in a singsong tone. "Yeah, I'm here" Miguel shouted. I heard thumps coming down the stairs. I turned my head towards the entrance and saw a pair of legs descending the steps. The feet had on blue slippers and I noticed one of her legs was wrapped in gauze. "She must have hurt herself" I thought. I saw more of her since she was coming down the stairs. She finally stopped since she was at the bottom of the stairs. She looked up since she had been looking down. I saw her face. She had long, messy black hair that stopped at her waist. There were purple highlights in her hair. For a moment, I thought she and Miguel were related but I remembered that Miguel said he didn't have any relatives. I studied her face. She had big glasses on. There was no expression on her face. I then looked at her eyes. Deep purple eyes. I had seen those eyes before. For a moment, her eyes didn't have any emotion to them. Then her eyes flickered to confusion as she was looking left and right. I had seen those eyes before.
"Nikki, over here!" Miguel called out. Nikki? I s that her name? My question was answered when the girl turned and smiled at Miguel. "Hi Miguel!" she called out. She came closer and stopped when she saw me. Her eyes widened. "What's wrong Nikki?" Miguel asked. He then turned to look at me. "Oh right, I didn't introduce you guys to each other" he said standing up. He went over to the girl and hugged her from the side. "This is Nikki Luna, my best friend!" he said happily. He then went back to sit beside me. "And this is Akatsuki Kain. I met him two days ago" he said happily. I looked back at the girl to see her staring at me still. She raised her arm and pointed at me. I looked down to see the silver K badge that all Knights have. Shit, I forgot to take it off! I leaned over to Miguel and whispered "I know it seems stupid to ask this but can she talk? I mean can she talk around people?" "Yeah, she can. She's just shy around people she doesn't know. Don't worry, once she gets to know you she won't be shy" Miguel whispered back. "I bet it's also because I'm a Knight" I whispered. "Huh? How would she know that?" he asked. Pointed at my badge. "Oh right. Well it'll be better if we tell her now" he said. "What?!" I said shocked. "Nikki, I know you must be wondering why he has a Knight badge on him" he said gesturing to me. "Well, he's a Knight but he's not like the other Knights. He doesn't torture or kill people. He's really nice" he said. I stared at him. He just told his friend that I'm a Knight. I didn't think he would tell her. I'm not mad though. I turned back to look at the girl named Nikki, to see her looking at me with shocked eyes. The shock then turned to glaring. She was glaring at me. I have seen those eyes before. The emotionless eyes. The shocked eyes. The glaring eyes. I have seen those purple eyes before but I can't remember where.
(Nikki's POV)
I knew that guy was familiar! He's a Knight! He was there when….when…n-no, I can't think about now. I must take this opportunity and kill that Knight. I was shocked but I was even more shocked that Miguel had known this guy for two days and is already acting like that Knight is his new friend. Is Miguel insane? And another thing, Knights aren't supposed to know about this place! They aren't supposed to know about Bloody Midnight! I bet Miguel told him about him. Just what the hell is he thinking? That Knight could go and tell the King about this and get this place closed down or get us killed. Miguel shouldn't be so friendly with this guy.
"Nikki, stop standing and come sit with us. Let's all talk together!" Miguel said happily. "Now I have to sit beside that Knight who…..no don't think about it. Don't think" I told myself in my head. I walked over to them not taking my gaze off that Knight. And by gaze I mean glaring. I wanted to scare him. He looked scared. That was good. I stood beside Miguel. I did not want to sit beside that Knight. "Sit Nikki, sit!" Miguel said as he dragged a stool between him and that Knight. "I don't want to" I said. "Just sit" Miguel said as he grabbed me and placed me on the stool.
(Miguel's POV)
I could sense the tension. Kain wasn't saying anything, Nikki wasn't saying anything, and I wasn't saying anything. It was awkward. "So….why don't you tell Kain about yourself, Nikki?" I asked. I was trying to break the tension. "No" she answered. I was shocked. "Nikki, he's not going to hurt you" I said. "Lie" she said. Kain just stared at her. "I'm not going to hurt you. I want to be friends. Like I am with Miguel" he said as he smiled at me. I smiled and blushed a little. "He called me his friend" I thought happily. "I don't want to be your friend. You a Knight. An enemy" Nikki said. I punched her arm. "Ow…." She muttered. "Stop being so mean" I whispered. "He was there" she hissed. I was confused. "There where?" I asked. She didn't answer. She looked sad. I know it must be something important. "Am I interrupting?" Kain asked. "No" I answered. "Yes" I heard Nikki mutter. I glared at her. "I'm going to get a drink. Any of you want a drink?" I asked. "No" Kain answered. "I want one" Nikki said. "Fine, what do you want?" I asked. "Sprite with Orange Crush" she said. "Only one" I said. "Why?" she whined. "Because I said so" I said. "Fine, I'll have Sprite" she said. "Good. You sure you don't want anything Kain?" I asked. "No, I am fine" he replied with a smile. I smiled back. "Okay" I said getting up and walking to the other side of the counter. "What did you do, Nikki?" I asked. "What do you mean what did I do?" she asked. "At home, you idiot. What did you do at home?" I said. "Oh okay and I'm not an idiot!" she said. I looked at Kain and mouthed "Told you she's slow" He just nodded. Luckily, Nikki didn't notice. "Well, I watched TV" she said. "Did you eat anything?" I asked. "Um…." she said. "Did you?" I asked with a raised eyebrow. "No…." she answered. "Why didn't you?" I asked. "I didn't feel like to" she said. "Dude, other people aren't as lucky as us" I said as I slammed her drink on the counter. "I know" she said as she took her drink. "See what I have to deal with? This is what I have to deal with" I said to Kain as I gestured to Nikki. Kain laughed a bit and out of the corner of my eye, I saw Nikki glaring at me.
"This place is like a safe haven. I bet people have fun here" Kain said. "Well, yeah. You haven't seen what it's like after five" I said. "All I see is people getting tortured or killed" Kain said. I frowned. "It's because of your job" I said. "Yeah. The worst was the time the rebellion took place. Lots of people being killed. Kids, parents…even whole families" Kain said. It became tense again. I looked over at Nikki to see if she was okay. She was looking down and her hair was shielding her face. I guessed she was remembering that time. "It was horrible. Especially for the kids who lost their parents" Kain said. I heard a loud bang. I turned to see Nikki gripping her can tightly. I thought she was going to squish the can flat. I felt awkward in this situation. "I-I'm going to the bathroom" I said as I walked away from Kain and Nikki.
I entered the bathroom and pressed my back against the door. How? Just how? How could Kain stand his job? I wouldn't even last a day being a Knight. Watching people get tortured or killed or both. Even kids. I wouldn't be able to watch. I hate gory things especially horror movies. They scare me so much. I don't know how Kain could stand it. You must have a strong stomach when you're seeing those things. I mean those images must be haunting your mind or something.
My thoughts were interrupted when I heard glass shattering. I ran out of the bathroom to see Kain lying on the ground with Nikki on top of him. Now what scared me was that Nikki was holding a large shard to Kain's throat. "Nikki, what the hell are you doing?!" I shouted. I ran over to where they were. I smelled blood. I was panicking. I really hoped it wasn't Kain's blood. Fortunately, it wasn't. It was Nikki's. Since she was gripping that piece of glass so tight, I guess it was cutting into her flesh. "Nikki, get off of him!" I shouted. "Hell no!" she shouted. "Get off of him! Now!" I shouted as I grabbed her arm and started pulling. "Ow! Let go!" she shouted. "No! You're attacking Kain! You're going to hurt him!" I shouted as I grabbed her other arm. "That's my intention!" she shouted back. "No! No!" she shouted as I managed to pull her off of Kain. Kain quickly shuffled away from her in fear. "What? You're afraid to face me? You coward!" she shouted at him. "Shut up!" I shouted as I dragged Nikki to the stairs. "Next time I see you, you're a dead man!" she shouted. She was struggling to get out of my hold. So I held her by the waist. She was flailing around a lot. So much that she stabbed herself….on her injured leg. So you can imagine how fast the blood spread. She stabs herself right where she got injured yesterday. The gauze was quickly losing its brown color to the red blood. I managed to carry her up the stairs but she still shouted death threats at Kain.
We got outside and I dropped Nikki on her ass. I really didn't care. I was too mad to care. I watched as she got up off the ground. "What the hell do you think you were doing?" I asked angrily.
(Nikki's POV)
"What the hell do you think you were doing?"
"Saving you and getting revenge" I thought. "I'm waiting" he said tapping his foot and a hand on his hip. "What the hell was I doing? What the hell were you doing?" I asked. He glared at me. "Don't sass me" he said. "I'm not sassin' you" I said. "Then tell me what the hell were you doing?" he repeated. "I was getting revenge and trying to save you" I said. "First of all, why? Second, saving me?" he asked. Well, it looks like Miguel's not understanding. "He was there, Miguel. He was there" I said sadly. Maybe he'll understand if I put it like that. He did but his reaction was far from what I expected. "Okay, he was there. He didn't do anything" e said nonchalantly. I was shocked. He did not just say that! I know there was three Knights there and that Kain guy was one of them! I'm wondering if Miguel's drunk. I know that can't be because he's not hiccupping and giggling in every sentence. "Uh, helloooo?! Earth to Miguel! You know what happened! You know what they did!" I shouted angrily. "The other two did. Kain didn't" he said. "Are you kidding me?! He was there! He was a part of it!" I shouted. Miguel stepped closer to me. "Kain is very nice. He told me he's never killed or tortured anyone" he said. "He'll kill you though! Knights aren't supposed to know about Bloody Midnight! He's like, evil! Just like the King. He's lying to you. He'll kill you. He'll sell you out. He'll sell this place out and he'll kill you!" I said. "No, he won't! He told me he never killed anyone and never will" he said.
"He's lying!"
"He's telling the truth!"
"You're a dumbass for believing him, you know that right?"
I covered my mouth just as Miguel's eyes widened. I didn't mean to call him a dumbass. I meant to call him stupid. I don't swear….okay I do but not as much as Miguel does. You should be blaming him. I've been living with him for six years. Obviously, some of his swearing has rubbed off on me. So it's his fault….yeah it's his fault. I moved my hand from my mouth. Miguel was still staring at me. Then he glared. He stomped over until he was right in front of me. Right in front of me. Talk about invasion of personal space. I stepped back and said "Bubble. My bubble" I drew a circle in the air around my body. Miguel still took a step towards me. "I don't give a damn about your bubble" he said angrily. I was a little bit afraid now. "You really have the nerve to call me a dumbass. You're the dumbass! You come to the club and attack Kain. Oh wait I mean try and KILL him and now you have this bitchy attitude towards me!" he shouted angrily. "I don't have a bitchy attitude" I mumbled. "Yes, you do. You were being such a bitchy dumbass, that you stabbed yourself!" he shouted angrily as he pointed to my leg. I looked down to see most of the gauze was stained with blood. "So that's why I felt pain in my leg" I thought. "Well excuse me if I was trying to save you. You would have been killed if I wasn't there" I said. I guess I made him even angrier because the next thing he said shocked me. "Leave" he said. 'W-What?" I said in shock. "You heard me" he said. "Why?" I asked. "You should know. Now leave" he said. "I didn't do anything" I said. "Go home" he said. "Why?" I asked. "You caused enough trouble. Go home" he said.

"Go home now"
"No"
"I SAID GO HOME!"
"Fine" I said as I crossed my arms over my chest. "Good. Now I'm going to go back to work" he said. "I'll leave….but I don't promise that I'll go home" I said. He stopped walking. "If I get home and you're not there, your grounded" he said. "You're not an adult, you can't ground me" I said. Miguel stuck the finger up at me and disappeared into the club. Well, it looks like dinner tonight will be something Miguel likes and I hate…..and he says I have a bitchy attitude. I was trying to get revenge. Yes, I need to avenge them. I also was trying to protect Miguel. He doesn't believe me about that Knight. Looks like I have to prove it.
I turned and started walking away from the club. Away from Miguel and that Knight…and I'm not going home.
(Miguel's POV)
Fuck her. She comes into the club, attacks Kain, and tries to kill him. What the fuck?
(Kain's POV)
That girl scares me. She almost killed me. What did I ever do to her? I've never seen that girl in my life…until today. But her eyes looked familiar. So familiar…
I turned my head to see Miguel walking towards me. For a second, I saw anger on his face. Then a smile appeared on his face. "I'm so sorry about Nikki. She's not like that" he said. "It's okay" I said. "Are you hurt? Did she hurt you?" he asked. "No, I'm fine" I said. "Okay" he said. I looked back at him to see him looking a bit disturbed. "Hey, are you okay?" I asked. His face changed back into a smile again. "Huh, yeah. I'm fine" he said. Somehow, he didn't convince me that he was alright.
(Miguel's POV)
Nikki's blood is in the air….and it's making me hungry. Yeah, I am pretty weak when it comes to blood. I take a lot of blood tablets but they don't last long. I have to use a lot of willpower so I don't go attacking random people for blood. I turned away from Kain and walked back to the counter. "Oh, the glass" I heard Kain say. I turned to see shards of glass on the floor. Luckily, it wasn't a lot. Kain bent down and started picking up the glass. "What are you doing? I asked. He looked up at me and smiled. "I'm picking up the glass" he said. Kain's smile is so hot. His smile made me all warm inside and caused me to have butterflies in my stomach. Don't get the wrong idea. I-I'm not gay...but if I was, I would date Kain.
"Miguel?"
I stopped my thoughts and said "Yeah?" "Are you really okay?" he asked me. "Yeah, I'm fine" I smiled. He cares….add another point for my fantasy relationship!

"You don't have to. I work here so I should clean it up" I said. "No, I'll do it. I don't want you to get cut by this glass" Kain smiled. I knew I was blushing. My heart started beating a bit faster. "Um, okay if you're sure" I said. "I'm sure" he said. "He's so nice" I thought as I went back behind the counter. The smell of blood was faint so I should be able to control myself. I'll be fine. Just then, I heard Kain say "Damnit" and the smell of blood reached the air. The smell of Kain's blood.
I spoke too soon.
"I cut myself on a piece of glass but it's small so I'm fine" Kain said. "Are you sure?" I asked nervously. "Yeah. Like I said it's just a small cut. See?" he said as he raised his right hand. I watched as blood was trickling down his finger. I'm getting hungry. "I cleaned all the glass though" he said. He got up and threw the pieces of glass in the garbage. He came closer and sat on one of the stools at the counter. The smell was starting to overwhelm me. "Why did you have to sit across from me? Right in front of me?" I thought. I started panting but luckily Kain didn't notice. I slipped my hand into my pocket and pulled out a small box. "So….what happens now?" he asked. "Um….well…I don't know" I said as I looked down at the box. I didn't want Kain to know I was hungry. He kept talking with me and I kept talking back. I slid the lid box to the side. I did this under the counter so Kain wouldn't see. I looked down and my eyes widened. The box was empty! I can't be out of blood tablets! I can't! I really need them! "Shit!" I thought. "No, no, no" I muttered. "What did you say?" Kain asked. "Nothing, nothing!" I shouted. I put them empty box back into my pocket and began playing with my fingers with a blush on my face. "You seem spaced out today" he said. "No, it's just that I'm really sorry about Nikki" I lied. Okay, it's part true. "I said its okay. Don't worry about me" he said. "Okay" I said. I am now starting to see Kain's arteries and veins. This is bad. My eyes are going to turn red. I immediately took my hairpins out of my hair to let my bangs cover most of my forehead and eyes. I have long bangs. That should buy me some time. I saw Kain with a confused look. "Um….I wanted to show you how long my bangs are" I lied. "Okay, they are long" he said. "Yup, they are" I said as I laughed nervously. I can hear his heartbeat. Such a beautiful sound.
Miguel, don't lose to your blood lust!

I knew I was losing to my hunger. I must keep it together! But I want to sink his fangs into his neck….taste his blood…..MIGUEL, STOP THINKING LIKE THAT! Kain's heartbeat is the only thing I can hear. I can see the blood moving through his body. My panting got heavier. "Miguel?" Kain asked. I turned around quickly so he wouldn't see my face. I have a feeling my eyes are turning red. I stared at my reflection in the glass door of one of the glass cabinets. I was right. My eyes were a darker and were already becoming red. I opened my mouth to see that my fangs were longer. I am screwed. "Miguel, are you alright?" he asked me again. I turned to face him. Next thing I know I'm on the countertop.
I lost to my blood thirst.
(Kain's POV)
Miguel was kneeling on the countertop panting heavily. His eyes were covered by his bangs. Just a moment ago I asked him if he was alright. He was acting a bit odd and the next thingI know, he's kneeling on the countertop. He went on all fours and stared at me. I could see his eyes now. Wait. Isn't his eye color gold? He grabbed my shirt and pulled me closer to him. I tried to pull away but I didn't think he was that strong. He placed both hands on my shoulders and leaned forward so our noses were practically touching. My heart started beating faster. I can see more of his eyes. They were red. Is he hungry? My question was answered when he opened his mouth slightly to reveal fangs. Oh, so he is hungry. I tried prying his hands off my shoulders but it didn't work. He looked into my eyes for a moment. Just a moment and it made my heart beat even faster. His eyes moved downward. He's probably staring at my neck. He moved closer and brought his face to my neck slowly. "No, Miguel stop" I said. He didn't. "Please stop" I pleaded. "Mmmm, you smell nice…" he said against my neck. "Miguel, I said stop" I said as I kept trying to pull him off of me. "So nice…." He whispered seductively. My neck felt wet. "I can hear your heartbeat….I love this sound" he whispered. "I wonder how your blood will taste" And he sunk his fangs into my neck.
I was in shock. I have never seen this side of Miguel before. Well, I only knew him for two days but still. I saw him as an attractive, cool, and mellow guy. I didn't expect him to be like this…even when he was hungry like he is now. His personality is different. He's acting like a seductive person. He was gulping down my blood and a lot of it…at least that's what I think. I heard him moaning occasionally. I have to push him away because at the rate he's going; I think he'll end up draining me.
(Miguel's POV)
Kain's blood…ah…it tastes so good…so good…actually it tastes better than good. I wanted more. So I drank more. Each mouthful tasted better and better. I really didn't care that I was making a mess. All I cared about was drinking as much of Kain's blood as I can before I have to stop….if I can stop.
(Kain's POV)
Okay, it looks like Miguel would not stop anytime soon. This reminds me a story a couple of Knights told me. A couple years ago, there was this Knight who was jumped and attacked by a group of homeless men. One of them bit the Knight and drained him….the whole group was thrown in the dungeon and executed…yeah…I don't want that happening to Miguel. I don't want him killed. I want him alive.
(Miguel's POV)
I was still drinking. What? His blood was addicting for me. I didn't want to stop…I can't stop. Kain is so nice. I'm sure he won't be mad that I'm drinking his blood. "Get off!" he shouted as he managed to pull me away from his neck. I kneeled on the countertop. I was satisfied…for now that is. I looked at Kain to see him with deep puncture wounds in his neck. Then the moments before caught up to me like a slap in the face. I slapped my hand to my mouth, only to pull it away to see blood all over it. I stared at a glass that was a few centimeters away from me. I saw my reflection. I had blood all over my mouth. I saw my eyes turn back to their usual gold color. I slowly turned to see Kain staring at me. I opened my mouth but I couldn't speak. I-I couldn't. I was too shocked. I can't believe I drank Kain's blood. I'm so embarrassed. He looked disappointed. I bet he never thought I was like this when I get hungry. "Why wasn't I born with better self-control?" "I-I-I…" I stuttered.
Come on Miguel, say something!
"I-I didn't…I didn't mean to…" I whispered. He just remained silent. "Honest…" I couldn't speak louder than a whisper. I looked at my knees with my hair covering my face. I didn't want him to see my face since it's stained with his blood. I heard footsteps. I heard the sliding cabinet open and close. I heard the footsteps getting farther and farther away. I looked up towards the stairs to see Kain there. No, I don't want him to leave. "K-Kain, I'm s-so…I'm-" I managed to croak out. He frowned and turned. "No! Stay!" I shouted. "Stay! Stay!" He just went up the stairs. I heard the door close.
No…..I scared him….he probably hates me now. Why? Why? Why did I have to run out of blood tablets? If only I could do this whole day over. Prevent everything that happened today. My stupid blood thirst. "I am so weak. I can't control myself in the presence of blood" I thought sadly. I felt tears running down my face. I was still kneeling on the countertop. I looked down at my knees. Small, dark drops started appearing on my jeans. Some were tears, the others, blood.
….I love him….I love Kain. I love him a lot. I know it's only been two days since I met him but I just can't think of him as just a friend. I guess that makes me gay…..I am gay. I am gay. If I'm gay that means I'm attracted to guys not girls. That probably explains why I've never had a crush until now. I guess my gay side hadn't surfaced until Kain appeared. I felt a blush come up on my cheeks. K-Kain. Akatsuki Kain. He's so hot with his fiery orange hair and burnt orange eyes. I bet he's really strong. I would love for him to hug me again…but that will never happen again because I scared him off! Wait….I'm gay….what if Kain's not? What if he's not gay? He wouldn't be gay. I gripped my shirt. Great. I finally have a crush and it's on a guy. He's not like me. He'll never fall in love with me. Why was I born to be gay?
I heard a voice. I think it's Jack. I didn't respond. I was too sad to but I know I'll have to clean my face before anyone sees it. I got off the countertop and headed towards the bathroom, still upset over what happened.
(Takuma's POV)
I was walking around with Kaname, Yuki, and Zero. We were talking and laughing. This is what I want. I want to be able to be with my friends everyday and have fun. Right now Yuki was teasing me about my crush. I used to do that to her and now she's doing it to me. "Takuma-sempai is all grown up now!" Yuki teased me as she poked my arm. "Hey! I'm 18. That's when you become an adult and I'm a year older than you!" I said. "But I'm more mature than you" she said. "No, you're not" Zero said. Yuki looked up at Zero. "I am Zero!" she shouted angrily. "No" Zero said. I snickered and Yuki looked back at me with a glare. "Takuma-sempai, face it. I am more mature than you" Yuki said. "No" I said. "Yes" she said.

"Both of you are childish"
Yuki and I both whipped our heads to glare at him.
"Onii-san!"
"Kaname!"
"End of this discussion. Let's talk about something else"
"Well, let's talk about the girl who's just sitting there with her head on her knees" Zero said as he pointed at a girl sitting by a building with her head on her knees. We got closer and I realized it was Nikki. It was obvious since I could see some purple in her hair. We stopped in front of her. She looked up at us. "Ugh…it's you again" she groaned. And I thought she would jump into my arms. Okay, I admit I know that won't happen. "Hey, don't be rude!" Zero shouted at her. "I'm not being rude!" Nikki shouted. Zero was about to say something when Yuki put a hand over his mouth. I looked at Nikki's leg. I saw gauze over the cut but there was dried blood on the gauze….and it's fresh. "Nikki, did you hurt yourself again? There's blood on your gauze" I said worriedly. She looked at her leg and back up at me. "It's nothing big really" she said. "Are you sure?" I asked. "Yeah, thanks for asking thought" she said as she smiled at me. I smiled back. She's just so cute!
"Do you need help getting up?" Kaname asked. "No, I can get up myself. See?" Nikki said as she stood up. Yuki stepped forward and smiled. "My name's Yuki Kuran. He's Kaname Kuran, my older brother and he's Zero Kiryu, my boyfriend" she said as she gestured to herself, Kaname, and Zero. "Um, hi" Nikki said as she looked away. "So what are you doing?" Kaname asked her. "Nothing" she answered. I saw Yuki out of the corner of my eye, smirking at me. I turns and was about to ask her why she was like that but she opened her mouth. "Why don't you hang out with us if you aren't doing anything, Nikki?" she asked. My mouth opened wide. "Why would she ask that? It will only make Nikki mad" I thought. Shockingly, she agreed. "I'm not doing anything so yes" she said. I was happy she was coming with us. I didn't think she would. Nikki turned to look at me. "Are you okay? Your mouth is open" she said. I quickly closed my mouth and blushed. "I'm fine. Absolutely fine" I said quickly. "Good, because if you weren't that'd be bad" she smiled. She cares about me…..I think. "Really?" I asked. "Yeah, I mean this is your kingdom" she said. "Technically no" I said. "Whatever. You can't rule a kingdom when you're sick" she said. "Ha, maybe not" I said. "So where do you guys want to go?" she asked. "Let's go to Bloody Midnight!" Yuki said happily. "Yeah, that place is fun!" I said happily. "I'll go anywhere with you, Yuki" Zero said as he placed Yuki's hand in his while she giggled. "I'll go" Kaname said.
"Can we not go there?"
We all turned to Nikki to see her looking at her feet. "Why? Doesn't your friend work there?" Kaname asked. "I don't want to see him" she responded quietly. "Why?" Zero asked. "He got mad at me and sent me home" she said. "What did you do to make him so angry?" I asked. "You don't need to know!" she snapped. "You don't need to know" she repeated more quietly. "Oh…sorry for asking" I said. It was silent for a minute before Zero spoke up. "So, you're supposed to be at home?" Zero asked. "Yeah. I'm not goin' though. I'd rather hang out with you guys" she said with a smile. I've said it before and I'll say it again. So cute! "Well, where do we go?" I asked. "Let's just walk around and if we think of anything, we'll do it" Yuki said. We all agreed and started walking.
We were passing an alleyway. I stopped and looked in. I saw about twelve kids running around kicking a can. "What's wrong?" Kaname asked me. "Nothing. I'm just watching kids play kick the can" I said. "They're playing soccer not kick the can" Nikki said. "How do you know that?" Zero asked. "Because there's two goalies" Nikki said. "Wouldn't it be better if they had a soccer ball?" I asked. "Let me tell you the answer. None of their families can afford a soccer ball" Nikki said matter-of-factly. "What? Isn't it like five or ten dollars?" Zero asked. "Try thirty-five" Nikki answered. "Your joking" Yuki said. "No, I'm not. A soccer ball is thirty-five dollars or more. Even those small bouncy balls are expensive" Nikki said. "What? Who raised the price?" I asked. Nikki turned to me with a raised eyebrow. "Your grandfather obviously. Aren't you playing the innocent one" she said with a smirk. "I honestly didn't know. Grandfather never tells me anything until much, much later. When it's too late!" I said sadly. Nikki came up to me and looked up at me. She pouted. Adorable. "Damnit, you're taller than me!" she shouted. "I-Is that what she's thinking?" I thought. "Her pout is so cute!" "Takuma, come back to earth" Kaname said. "I'm already on earth though" I smiled.
"Hey, wanna play hide-and-seek?"
We all looked at Nikki, who was smiling and bouncing on her feet. Adorable….. "Please?" she pleaded. "Well, there's nothing else to do, so okay" Zero said. "Yay!" Yuki, Nikki, and I said happily. "Everybody put their foot in" Nikki said. We all did. Nikki crouched down. "Sky blue, sky blue, everybody's out except for you" her hand stopped on my shoe and she looked up at me. "Your it prince" she smirked. "Awww…I don't want to be it" I whined. "You have to" Yuki smirked. "You have to count to…..sixty" she said. "That's a lot though!" I whined. "It will give us enough time to hide!" Nikki smiled. "Now good luck everyone! You can start counting….NOW!" she shouted as she, Yuki, Kaname, and Zero ran out of the alleyway. I sighed, covered my eyes to begin counting. What? I'm playing by the rules. I'm not a cheater. So what if only little kids cover their eyes to count in hide-and-seek? I'm just playing the fair way.
(Nikki's POV)
The prince is it. Takuma-kun is it! I did not intentionally add 'kun' to his name. I did not. Hide-and-seek was a brilliant idea suggested by me. I was running down an alleyway. This town has a lot of alleyways. Yeah….easy to get lost in….
"Hey!"
"The hell?" I thought as I turned around to see who shouted and oh no…..it's that Knight Miguel was hanging out with. I turned back around and pretended I didn't hear him. I started to walk away but he grabbed my arm. "Curses!" I thought. I turned around and saw him looking down at me. "He's tall" I thought. "What?" I asked trying not to look or sound scared. He was right in front of me and he's tall…he kinda scares me a bit…..
"Why did you attack me at the club?" he asked. Seriously, he's still hung up on that? It was like, only an hour ago. "You should now" I answered. "No, I don't" he said. "Liar" I said. "I am not lying. Is it because I was hanging out with Miguel? Is that it?" he asked. "No" I said.
That's part of the reason. You would've killed him. I know it.
"Then why?" he asked. "I answered your question already. You know why" I said. "And I said no. I don't know why" he said. "Stop playing mind games with me! I know you know!" I said. "I'm not an idiot" "I didn't say you were an idiot" he said with a sigh. "You know something that I don't. You know what I don't know and your saying I'm supposed to know something that I don't? That doesn't seem that logical" he said. "Sure….." I thought sarcastically. "Bye" I said as I turned to walk away. Cheese and crackers! I forgot to hit him so he can let go of my arm. Okay, I need to figure out how to get away from him. "And I didn't hurt Miguel, if you are starting t think that" he said. "You're a Knight and Knights are liars so I don't believe you" I said. "Now let me go before I kick you where it hurts….for all guys" He quickly let go of me and stepped back. "Yeah that's what I thought!" I said in my tough vice. "I didn't d anything yet you still attack me" he sighed. He is getting n my nerves. Why didn't he leave already? I faked a laugh and quickly dropped my smile. "Listen, you know the reason why. I repeated it so many times before. Nuff said" I said with as much sass I could put into it.
"I don't-"
"Nuff said" I repeated. "Now goodbye" I turned and ran away. I didn't want him following me. And what's his deal anyway? He already knows why I attacked him and he knows he was there! I never thought I would see that Knight again. Just when I almost forget his face, he shows up again. Who am I kidding; I'll never be able to forget his face. He was one of the Knights there. Gosh, I can't let him get to me. Maybe if I ask Takuma to remove him from the stuck-up Knight force, he'll be so weak, that I'll be able to take him out once and for all.
(Takuma's POV)
The hide-and-seek game was over. Actually it ended a few hours ago. I caught Kaname first, then Zero, then Yuki, and lastly Nikki. Yuki, Kaname, and Zero left to let me have some 'alone time' with Nikki. I was glad though. I could look at how cute she was. Oh, how she looked so cute.
"Why are you looking at me like that?"
"Huh?" I asked. "Why are you staring at me like that?" Nikki asked. "Uh…no reason…" I mumbled. I looked away. "Are you sure?" she asked. "Y-Yes" I answered. "Are you very sure?" she asked. "Yes" I said. "Are you very, very sure?" she asked. Is that a bit of humor in her voice? "Yes" I repeated. "Am I annoying you?" she asked. I turned to see her with a smile on her face. "Were you trying to annoy me?" I asked. "Maybe…" she said with a small smirk. "So you were deliberately trying to annoy me?" I asked again. "Maybe…" she repeated in the same playful tone. "No, I did not find you annoying" I said. "It was cute" My eyes widened and I turned away, covering my mouth with my hand. "I can't believe I just told her that!" Embarrassing.
I slowly turned back to look at her. She was looking straight ahead with a blush on her cheeks. "Great, now I made it awkward. I am so stupid" "W-What time is it?" she asked. I checked my watch and said "T-Ten minutes before 9:00" "It's almost 9:00! I gotta go!" she shouted. "Why?" I asked. "So I won't get yelled at. Don't you have to go back to the castle?" she asked. "Yeah but grandfather doesn't really care about me" I said as I shrugged my shoulders. "What about the maids?" she asked. "Yeah they do care about me except for one" I said. "Ah, I see. Look, I really have to go now. Bye!" she said as she ran off. "Bye!" I shouted after her. I turned and started walking in the opposite direction. I won't get to see her pretty little face tomorrow…maybe.
Suddenly, someone slammed into my back and wrapped their arms around me. "Who is this?" I thought. When the person spoke I recognized who it was. "T-Thanks for playing hide-and-seek. I know you must've thought it was childish" she said. I shook my head. "No. I didn't think it was childish. It was fun" I said. "Really?" she asked. "Yes" I said as I turned around. She was still hugging me. She looked up at me into my eyes. I may or may not have gotten lost in her eyes….I gave her a small smile. She quickly let go of me with a look of shock all over her face. "Uh…bye" she said with wide eyes. She turned back around and walked away.
She hugged me again. Yay! I think she is warming up to me. I bet we'll even become friends! The very thought of me and Nikki being friends made me smile. I made my way back to the castle with a big smile on my face.
That's the end of the chapter. Just as I told you up above this was a long chapter and took me awhile to write. This chapter was mainly around Miguel and Kain as you read just now.
