CHAPTER 3
Pacing the kitchen I felt myself get angrier at James, and at everyone. My heart pounding and my breath coming out in gasps I turned to James and slapped him, only feeling a slight pain in my hand, remembering he was hard like diamond.
James was staring down at me; a grin on his face he seemed satisfied and pleased with himself.
"Are you happy now?" I shouted at him, my hands balled up into fists.
Dustin pulled me back quickly and then looked at James once more. "I'll be back soon. I must go speak with Eric." He glanced at Johnny. "Watch her." He pointed at me and then flits away.
Alice, Johnny's wolf, padded in; gazing at me she blinked and then sat at Johnny's side silently.
I could feel a presence, approaching the building and a stench of wet dog and instantly I knew it was a werewolf; Johnny knew it too because he was already at the door, inviting the dog inside.
"Welcome to our home, Nathan," Jonny said as he entered the room, a blue-haired boy following.
He watched me as he spoke, "We're pushing the battle back a week. Logan wishes to speak with our second-in-command before we begin."
James was suddenly in the doorway, his eyes dark. "We agreed it'd be tomorrow!"
Mia slipped in, her long red hair glistening as she grinned. "I am the second-in-command and you will keep your mouth shut!" She looked at me suddenly, eyes wide.
Doom stepped infront of me, showing his large white teeth in my defense.
"You've turn her!" Mia snarled in anger.
Out of the corner of my eye I could see a dog, not sure if it was there's I turned to face it, remembering the dark pelt of Tsume.
He shook his head not to move even though I knew I couldn't, my heart pounded and my eyes began to water as I watched him come towards me.
A large black wolf talked him and I instantly remembered Blood, Donta's wolf.
"Don't you dare lay a finger on her!" The gray-haired girl yelled, glaring at Tsume as he struggled under Blood.
Nothing could've been more confusing when I heard loud howls echoing in the room, seeing Mia in her wolf form, orange fur, she darted over to Tsume and pushed Blood off, sniffing all over his body she glared at us and raced away, Tsume following with Nathan behind them.
Glee walked in, her eyes darted from me to Johnny to James. "W-what just happened?"
Arkan entered the room, a faint smell of werewolf on him he glanced calmly at me. "They've pushed the date back and everyone knows how the dogs work in this situation… We need to train Azara."
I watched in surprise, my eye catching Johnny's but he looked away, turning to Arkan he nodded. "I'll gladly train her if that is alright with James?" he asked and glanced at him.
A dark figure slipped into the room, wearing what seemed to be glasses and instantly James turned around, facing the other man.
"Brew, good to see you," James purred, leaning back a bit. "Come out of the shadows so I may see you dear."
The man known as Brew did as Johnny commanded. Brew looked about nineteen, wearing a black sweater and dark brown shorts with orange flip-flops. His hair was black and neatly combed and he had metal glasses on his face.
"I see we have a new vampyre," said Brew as he stepped forward looking down at me with boredom. He turned away and then sat on the couch, a gray wolf with white stripes on its back following after, sitting beside the couch calmly.
Johnny nodded at Brew. "Yes, this is Azara. She has been turned today."
I felt silence drop as Brew studied me, boredom still in his eyes. "Are we going to the beach anytime soon?"
This seemed to strike everyone in the room but Opta replied, "I'll schedule a beach to be reserved for us in two days." Then she whisked away and Johnny followed after.
Glee watched me, blinking before grabbed Arkan wrist and dragging him away, obviously teaching him something.
"I'll be in my room," I growled and then walked out of the large room, going down a hallway and turning right to see four doors, walking up to the last one I opened it and screamed as Dustin stood in the doorway.
Quickly Dustin frowned. "Azara, we can't be together anymore… I hate to see all of these boys flirting with you… So we're breaking up," he explained and before I could reply he fluttered away.
"Azara!" James called and then leaned against the outside of my door, holding out a golden ring. "This is your sun ring, don't lose it," he snapped and then turned around and walked away after putting it in my hand.
My ring? I recalled them walking in the sunlight and then I quickly slipped it on, continuing to walk into my room-slamming the door behind me-I flopped onto my bed. Breaking up with me? Why? I thought and felt myself cry.
When I woke everything was the same, only Glee was standing the doorway smiling at me. "Silly, it's morning now! Time to get up and get dressed; also don't forget we're going to the beach tomorrow!" Then she exited, closing the door behind her.
I slept through yesterday? Standing I looked around and found a black dress laid out for me on a chair. Yay, I thought and rolled my eyes, taking my clothes off I quickly slipped it on and then fixed it so it fit me perfectly.
After I finished brushing my long black hair I entered the hallway and walked down it, carrying the black high-heels the person left out for me. I'm not wearing these, I thought bitterly and entered the kitchen were Opta was sitting on the counter, Dustin was leaning against the wall near the entrance with Donta beside her, James was sitting at the table, swallowing some blood, Arkan was shaking his head from the stove, and Brew was standing in front of the doorway, blocking my entrance.
"Um, excuse me?" I said loudly, tapping his shoulder.
Brew turned around and looked down at me, examining my outfit he snickered. "Yes, excuse you," he muttered but moved out of the way, bowing to me a little.
"Ah, yes, Azara!" James said, smiling up at me. "Why aren't you wearing those high-heels?"
I set the girly shoes on the table and rolled my eyes. "I'm not wearing those pathetic things," I snapped and crossed my arms. "I'm cool with the dress but seriously?"
Opta shrugged. "They'd look cute," she offered but then turned back to Arkan's cooking with interest.
Dustin was looking down at the ground while Donta played with his hair and I replied, "I wish for Glee to pick out my clothes, not you." My eyes rolled. "Why're we going to the beach anyways?"
James looked up at me with a grin. "Very well." He sighed and leaned back in his chair, calmly looking around. "Well it'd be good to get out. We can invite some pretty girls and just chill," he purred happily. "Arkan, the time."
Arkan glanced at the clock. "1:34 PM," he replied loudly.
Suddenly a hand was on my shoulder and I glanced behind me. "Blade," I breathed and turned back to the group.
"The beach, eh?" His eyes glimmered in amusement. "I'll be sure to watch you guys be idiots."
Why're all these people so care-free? I asked myself. I wouldn't be able to stand just... Standing here! I thought and sighed, pushing Blade's hand off my shoulder I sat down impatiently.
Johnny's familiar footsteps entered the kitchen. "Azara, we will begin training at two. Make sure to meet me in the Wolf Room lobby," he announced and turned around on his heels, walking away.
Brew glanced at Johnny and then rolled his eyes. "I have things to do today," he growled lowly and disappeared.
"Well, more for us!" Arkan said as he turned around with spaghetti on plates. Giving Blade, Opta, Donta, Dustin, himself, and I some he began to gobble down and I copied, enjoying my meal.
I don't have to eat as a vampyre anymore, I noted but finished my plate, leaning back in my chair and relaxing before glancing at my cellphone's time. 1:52! I panicked and stood up. "See you all later!" I called as I raced out the door to find the lobby.
After training I couldn't feel my legs, Johnny 'punished' me for being a minute late and I was now laying on the couch, half listening to James, Blade, Johnny and Donta argue about crap I couldn't remember. We were all in the room though, Brew beside me, Arkan leaning against the wall blasting music in his ears, Septimus was lying on the floor giving the wolves attention, Glee was sitting in a white chair on the other side of the room, Opta was sitting on the couch, crossing her legs and watching, and Dustin was beside her twiddling his fingers.
James glared at Johnny and balled his fists up. "Stop denying my plans! They'll work better than just attacking!"
My eyes rolled and I sighed, noting that it was already night time and I turned to Brew. "Can't we just ditch these people?" I whispered.
Brew shrugged. "I just can't wait to get to the beach tomorrow," he said and then turned back to the people fighting. "How was your training by the way?"
"Well I got kicked, in several places," I said and then giggled lowly, sighing. "I'm getting tired…"
The black haired boy smirked. "Then tell them you're going to sleep," he whispered.
"Genius!" I whispered and stood. "I'm going to sleep James," I said and then walked off to my bedroom where I swung open the door and then closed it, lying in my bed I curled up to the pillow and drifted to sleep.
"Azara, wake up! We're going to the beach!" Glee yelled and was jumping around my room, a two-piece in her hands.
I glared at her and stood up. "Fine, fine. Give me it and get out," I snapped and then snatched it up, looking at it as she left.
Black with white polka dots? I thought and sighed, quickly changing into it I grabbed a hoodie and covered myself, put on my flip-flops and exited my room where everyone was waiting.
"Oh you looked so beautiful!" James purred, standing in front of me, fully clothed.
My eyes rolled and I pushed him away. "So how do I do this 'flit' thing?" I asked Johnny as we begun to walk beside each other out the door.
"It isn't really that hard. Just imagine where you want to be, then run and you'll be flitting, don't worry about steering," he explained calmly and then raced off, everyone following after.
Oh great, I thought and then imagined Johnny and raced after, feeling the wind in my hair and Johnny in front of me he led me through several places until we'd reached a semi-large beach that had a very large white building in front of it.
"This is where Brew grew up you see," James was explaining to Glee and they walked away.
Brew grew up here? I thought with wide eyes and then sat in one of the chairs provided and watched Johnny, Opta, Donta, and Dustin jump into the water from a large rock.
Brew walked up to me, not shirtless like all of the other boys. "I won't swim until dark," he said and sat in the chair beside me, pushing his glasses up his nose more.
He still strikes me as weird though. I knew nothing about him and he seemed to know everything about me.
"Hm, sounds like a plan," I agreed but curled up, not really wanting to go swimming I looked over at everyone having a blast and rolled my eyes.
I'm going to make a sandcastle, I thought and then crawled off to below the rock, grabbing some dark sand I began to pile it up calmly and just continued building until the sun was going down.
"Help me!" I heard Glee yell and I stood, quickly looking up I saw Glee and two men I'd never seen before smiling down at her. I jumped into action without second thoughts and raced up the rock to the people.
"Don't you dare lay a finger on her!" I snapped, glaring at the two of them as they turned towards me, one grabbed my shoulder and pushing me towards Glee who was now sitting down beside where the rock stopped and the ocean got its deepest.
The tallest one pushed me forward towards the end of the rock and yelled. "Hope you can swim little girl!" Before pushing me into the water below.
I screamed and hit the water, feeling pain in my back I opened my eyes and held my breath. Help me! I thought as I continued floating downwards, seeing a familiar figure jump in everything went black.
My eyes flickered open and I gasped for breath, looking around I was still on the beach, on a towel surrounded by everyone. "I'm okay… You don't need to surround me, guys."
Johnny answered quickly, "You could've been killed! That was dangerous! Don't ever try and face two men like that again!"
Donta nodded in agreement. "You are not trained yet, Azara. That was foolish. You couldn't take them on!"
I felt anger rushing through me now. "I was trying to help! And I'm okay! Nothing bad happened," I snapped back and stood up. "Just get me inside…"
Now Brew and Dustin were at my sides, helping me towards the white house, it was a quick journey because they practically carried me to the house and put me down inside.
It was beautiful in here. I was handed a dry dress and shoved into a bathroom where I quickly peeled off my clothes and jumped into the lovely white dress that was strapless. James, I'm going to kill you, I thought and then exited the bathroom.
"Azara," a girl wearing a maid's outfit said, "right this way to dinner. Your friends are waiting." She led me up some stairs and then opened the door to a large dining room where everyone sat and enjoyed meatloaf, besides James who was sucking down a bottle of blood.
Sighing I sat down in the middle of Johnny and Opta and began to dig into the food, enjoying the flavor the meatloaf had.
"Hey, Azara?" Donta interrupted and Brew stood up, exiting the room I looked at Donta.
I swallowed before I spoke back to her. "Yes, Donta?" I asked with a tilt of my head.
"Slow down on the meatloaf, it's stuffed with onions," she told me and grinned.
Onions? I thought my eyes wide. I hate onions! Quickly I stood and rushed out of the room, going into the nearest room I noticed it was an empty bedroom and I opened another door in the bedroom. "A bathroom!" I gasped and opened the toilet, vomiting right into it I sighed.
After a little while of vomiting I flushed the toilet and then cleaned myself up, exiting I turned to look around at the room and caught sight of Brew, shirtless.
Brew looked up at me curiously, his glasses off and his chest wet I felt my eyes widdened.
"I-I'm sorry I just needed to use a bathroom!" I explained quickly, putting my hands up in innocence.
He looked at me with amusement. "That's quite alright, Azara. You couldn't have known this was my room." Brew slipped on his glasses and looked back up at me again.
Oh, this room is beautiful, I thought as I walked further in, glancing around I turned back to Brew. "Yes, that's right…" I bowed a little as he stood and walked over to the wall, the light going off I felt myself panic. "W-Why'd you turn off the lights?"
"Azara, you don't understand how worried everyone was," Brew whispered and I felt his hands on my back and he pushed me onto the bed holding himself up over me, yet still holding me below him. "You're helpless against me, you know that right?"
I felt myself panicking a lot now. What is happening? I stared up at him, feeling the shock on my face. "Y-You wouldn't," I whispered up at him. "You try to show us you're a jerk but you can't help being nice…"
Brew didn't seem surprised as he got off me and stood up, turning towards me he nodded. "I know. I just needed you to see how easy it was. You need more training," he told me and then picked up his shirt from the chair just as there was a knock at the door.
"Hey Brew, Johnny needs your help with-" Dustin was cut off as he looked at us, blushing heavily now.
Dustin? My heart skipped a beat as I sat up and looked at him. "Brew will be down in a second," I told him and the door closed.
The older boy turned to me. "For a seventeen year old, you sure know how to handle people," he said and then put his shirt on, walking towards the door he opened it and exited.
"What am I doing here?" I whispered and closed my eyes.
The next morning I sat silently at the table, staring at my hands as Dustin gazed at me.
Brew sat beside me. "Hey James, I was thinking about visiting the witches for help," he told him, picked up the syrupy waffle and eat it.
James looked up from his newspaper and nodded. "Take Azara too, she should be introduced to the witches."
I looked up at James and then glanced at Brew. "There are witches too? What isn't there?" I asked, suddenly feeling much happier.
"Of course," Brew replied, pushing his glasses up his nose more. "We'd better get going then." He stood and then flitted away while I was standing and I caught Dustin's glare before imagining Brew I flitted after him calmly.
He wasn't hard to catch up to, actually he must be really old due to how slow he was compared to me.
The witches lived in a city at least ten miles from their called Soul City. It was beautiful and grassy with plenty of buildings, trees, and people.
"So they let people live in their village?" I asked Brew, the people didn't even seem to notice us though.
Brew looked down at me with a grin. "Those are witches, Most of them anyways. Ten and younger are humans in training to become witches." He continued walking forward until a girl greeted us.
"Brew, very good to see you," she said, bowing to him and me uncertainly.
I waved as Brew replied, "You as well Elena." He followed her gaze to me and grinned. "That's Azara, she knew with the vampyres, but don't worry."
Elena nodded. "What may I do for you today?" she asked, locking her fingers together.
"Actually we just came to check-up on the witches. No werewolves around right?" Brew asked, half joking her nudged her.
The older girl seemed amused at Brew. "No werewolves. We're perfectly fine, you may leave now." She smiled.
Brew nodded in agreement and took my wrist. "Let's go then!" he purred happily and began to drag me past everyone.
"See you!" I called at the witch and then pulled my wrist out of his grip. "Brew, how old are you?"
He glanced over at me, as if the question was unexpected. "Two hundred and fifty-four," he replied bluntly and Soul City disappeared behind us. "I'm one of the oldest vampyres out there."
Two hundred and fifty-four?! My heart skipped a beat. "Then why didn't you do it?"
"Do what?"
"Last night, when we were alone… Why didn't you do it?" I asked, looking up at him. "You could've done whatever you pleased and gotten away with it… So why didn't you?" I didn't mean to be disrespectful or anything, but I had a point; he could've did it easily.
Brew looked over at me calmly, his eyes darkening a little he sighed. "You are quite beautiful, Azara. But I couldn't do that to you," he said, pushing his glassed up his nose. "But in reality I do try to be a jerk to everyone, but I cannot help but be nice. Why do you ask?"
I blinked at his question. Well I'm glad I wasn't raped, but perhaps I did enjoy it… I thought and then shook the thought out of my head. "Curious," I replied bitterly and continued walking, but Brew halted. "What's wrong?" I asked walking over.
When he looked up he shoved me against a tree and pinned me there. "Are you testing me, Azara?"
My eyes grew wide at him. "I-I-I-" I couldn't find words. My surprise was too much and I was panicking again. "You won't..." I whispered.
Brew smiled down at me. "You don't know me that well, darling. And you have a point, no one is around, it'd be easy."
"But you-" I was cut off as her dragged his point and middle finger along my face down to my chin and he pushed it up.
"Don't be an idiot, Azara," he purred down at me and stepped back. "When we get back see Johnny for more lessons," he ordered and pushed his glasses up again and kept walking.
I stared after him. He's toying with me again…
"Hurry it up, Azara!" Brew yelled behind him to me.
Brushing me thoughts aside I raced forward and called, "Coming!"
