Haunt me Chapter 5- No strings attached

I slept uneasily that night. My mind kept replaying memories I'd rather forget. I dreamt of my father, and how he'd sought to end the relationship between Loki and I. He had secret meetings with an enchantress who cast a spell preventing Loki from entering my chambers and the surrounding rooms. I remembered all the times his frustration overtook his conscience and he abused me. I whimpered in my sleep. How I hated my cruel father. A memorable scene flashed before my helpless eyes. I was stood in a rainstorm Thor had conjured out of anger. My hair dampened and water trickled down my face. I was screaming at my father, asking him why he kept me away from my only friend.

"Why did you do this?" I shouted, moving hair out of my face. He turned around from walking to answer me. His hair was a dusty brown, and his blue eyes burned furiously into me.

"Because I will not have you entwine yourself any further with that vile creature." He responded, shouting over the thunder and the loud impact of the rain.

"You cannot temper with us that is beyond cruel!" I screamed, the thunder threatening to drown me completely. His eyes remained furious and focused. I wanted to slap him; I had to restrain myself.

"I will not have my reputation stained by you and your attitude and taste in men!" He countered, spit flying from his mouth.

"What would mother have thought?" I cried, instantly feeling a well of guilt at saying that. Mother was a sore topic of father's.

"Be quiet child!" He shouted, taking a step toward me. I whimpered in my sleep as I watched my own abuse. A cold chill woke me from my slumber. I was grateful, but cold. Sluggishly, I sat up to observe my surroundings. I had only just gotten used to my cage, but to move myself again to a new room after thousands of years in the same place was disorientating.

"Do not be alarmed, it is only me." I heard a soothing voice coax me- I didn't realise I was getting frantic until I properly woke up. I was standing up, pressed against the wall, holding myself.

In the corner near my bed stood Loki. His black hair was tousled- I must have woken him up.

"I'm sorry, did I disturb you? I've been having nightmares." I explained. We had both resolved our issues and had moved on. I could never hold a grudge for very long. Unless that grudge was for my father.

"I know- I heard everything. You were mumbling." He explained with a small smile. My cheeks heated as I blushed.

"Don't do that, it is okay. I'm not tired anyway." He murmured, placing a cool hand on my cheeks. With a sigh of relief, I climbed back into my bed. It was very luxurious.

"Do you want to tell me what distressed you?" He asked, sitting down on my bed without invitation. Not that he needed it anyway.

"Just memories of my father." I confessed, looking down at the silk sheets, pretending to suddenly be riveted by the grooves.

"He is an evil, vindictive and cruel person." Loki said, supporting my thoughts. I nodded in agreement. I was still disheartened, but I was determined not to linger on the past- the present was most important.

"What is the time?" I asked out of curiosity. Loki leaned forward to look at the modern dial that Natasha said was called a clock.

"The time looks to be 3.30 am." Loki said, without hesitation. He learnt the time well.

"I'm impressed trickster, I have yet to master this time-telling." I joked, with a light nudge on his arm. With a chuckle, he returned my gesture gently.

"I'm not tired anymore- I'm restless." I admitted. Asgardians didn't require as much rest as mortals- we had sustainable systems.

"As am I. What shall we do? Most mortals won't wake for a few hours yet." I puzzled this a moment, and then an idea came into my head.

"Natasha showed me a collection of these discs in boxes. Apparently you put them in the television and they play films." I said excitedly. Without hesitation, I carried on my explanation.

"She told me the films in question were ordered in genre. That means-"

"I know what that means sweet thorn." He interrupted. With a giggle I stood up, ridiculously excited. I felt like a child again.

"I don't know how to operate their technology, and I don't know what to watch or where to start." I carried on. There was a long stretch of silence between us as our minds ticked over.

"We shall take a risk and watch a horror film." He finally answered. I raised an eyebrow in defiance. I knew that a horror film was a film designed to scare one.

"Oh will we?" I challenged.

"Yes, and don't even try to defy me." He warned with a smile.

"Fine." I said, secretly pleased it would be something scary. I could do with something entertaining. We made our way leisurely into the room which held this television Natasha spoke of. Loki, clearly more knowledgeable of the mortal technology, went over to a bookshelf and took out a disc box.

"Lady Romanoff has labelled each box for each genre." He commented, his long slender fingers gently caressing his upper lip. It was an odd pondering movement that was at the same time quite hypnotic to watch. As if he could sense me observe him, he turned to smile slyly at me. I quickly averted my gaze, a heavy blush creeping onto my cheeks.

"Is that not considered rude, Sigyn?" He asked, turning back to look at the shelf.

"I don't know what you speak of." I snapped.

"Hey, don't snap at me, I was merely making a jest." He said, sounding ever so faintly hurt. This was not a hurt that I liked (not that I liked any hurt)- it was a hurt that meant heads would roll.

"Sorry- just the nightmares talking…" I trailed off; making no attempt to sound like it was the truth. He clucked his tongue and proceeded to choose a "DVD" as Natasha called it.

"What did you decide to choose trickster?" He turned to show me the DVD box.

"It is called 'Paranormal Activity'. Apparently it is supposed to be scary." He said, reading straight off of the DVD box. I sat down on a seat and allowed myself to become engrossed in the technology of Midgard.

"You should try some of our books." Natasha said. I woke myself from my mental slumber. I was still slightly tired- I had watched three films one after the other without halt. The films were not scary, but they were convincing.

"I'm sorry, I was not paying attention. Please repeat your original statement." I said apologizing. Natasha smiled and tried again.

"Books. We have loads- I could lend you one if you're in need of an escape." She explained. Loki stalked past me, and Natasha's eyes followed him.

"Or advice. On relationships, love, the like." She added with a wink at me. My jaw dropped as I realised what she implied.

"Don't be absurd. I do not seek relationships- they all end in emotional chaos." I reasoned. Natasha nodded slowly, as if in agreement but at the same time disagreement. Despite what I had said, I cast a glance at Loki anyway. He stood, shackled but un-gagged. His black hair was not as tousled as it was when I woke up, but it still didn't have its usual form. He didn't wear his protective armour, which meant he was feeling more comfortable about being in the same room as his victors. I wasn't aware I was staring until a gentle nudge from Tony's elbow brought me to my senses.

"Hold up girl, your eyes might actually burn through him." He said sarcastically.

"Aren't you just a court jester." I said curtly. With a small laugh he walked away. I averted my gaze from Loki but brought it back up swiftly. However this time his eyes met mine. For a second the whole room froze, and it was just me and him. What do you yearn for so much? I thought to myself in my head. You're so desperate, searching for something you cannot find. I tore my eyes off him and turned to Natasha.

"Very well, what books would you recommend?" I asked.

"Well, we don't have an extensive collection here, but I have finished this trilogy, they're called The Fifty Shades." She explained, digging a grey thick volume from her bag.

"I'm not gonna lie- they're pretty… full on. If you know what I mean." She winked again. Rather than embarrass myself in front of Tony again, I nodded, pretending I understood what she meant.

"I can handle it." I responded with a smile.

"Oh okay then." She sounded surprised. With a tiny tremble of anxiety in my stomach, I sat down and began to read. Hours later, I realised what Natasha had meant by "Full on". The scenes were extremely racy and I found myself blushing through all the scenes. Tony and Clint thought it was hilarious- I did not. During one scene, Loki came and sat next to me.

"What are you reading?" His tone was unreadable. I was blushing furiously by this point.

"Fifty Shades of Grey. It's a racy and erotic romance story." I explained with a slow nod. Loki paled slightly.

"Why would you read something like that?" He was incredulous. I was holding back a smile.

"It was recommended to me- I was bored and didn't see any harm in it, so long as it is good literature."

"And is it?" I didn't answer but turn back to my book.

"How bad is the erotica?" He ventured after a moment of silence. I was struggling to contain my laughter.

"Very bad- so many adjectives." I murmured, shaking my head slowly, over-dramatically. He squirmed in his seat, and I was beginning to shake. The tension, the moment and his reaction was too much for me to bear- any moment could be my last of perfect restraint.

"I have to go." He said, standing up slowly.

"Where are you going?" I asked, making him think up an excuse. Playing with him was fun.

"I don't know." He faintly sounded like he was wailing. With a sigh, I relieved him of the awkward tension.

"Okay, farewell." I dismissed him with a wave of my hand. With a sigh of relief, he lightly trotted away. He still wasn't comfortable around SHIELD, but it seemed he'd rather be with his enemies than his only female friend reading erotica. I folded the corner of my current page, and evaporated it to the safe house, into my chambers. Loki noticed this and came to sit back down next to me. We sat in silence- he was content with this, or seemed to be; I was not. I tapped my fingers on my leg impatiently. He turned slightly to look at my legs- I stared at him until emerald met sapphire. I craved this kind of intimacy. I couldn't think of anything to say. I heard laughter come from nearby- I saw Clint and Natasha laughing at a private jest.

"They make a reasonable couple." I commented, relieved to have a topic of conversation.

"They are both in denial of what is blatant to the eye." He responded with a wistful nod. For a moment I allowed myself to just absorb all he said- no strings attached.

So what did you think? Now this is out of the way, I can begin writing my exciting Chapter 6 :)

Please please review, it'll only take a minute and I cannot stress how much it means to me!
