Haunt me Chapter 6: Emerald clashing with Sapphire

"Greetings Sigyn." A silky voice whispered behind me. I jumped, startled. I recognised the voice, but it still took me by surprise.

"You have to stop doing that, one day you'll do that and I'll have a heart attack." I jested, turning back to the oven.

"I apologize- I forget I do this to you." He continued to murmur, sending delightful shivers down my spine and abdomen. I found it hard not to fall backwards into his arms- I had no doubt he'd catch me.

"That's okay- I'm a bit jumpier than I would be normally, and that is my own fault and not yours." I explained, using a wooden spoon to poke the meal preparing on the pan.

"I have a few questions…" He trailed off, his voice louder. I breathed in relief- the Goosebumps ceased to push at my pale skin.

"Fire at will officer." I replied, using a remark I heard on a television programme. I turned to smile at him, only to be met with a confused expression.

"Feel free to ask." Realisation dawned on his chalky pale face, and he smiled.

"Firstly, what is this thing you stand by?"

"It's called an oven. It prepares food without using fires and cauldrons."

"Very well, secondly, what are you cooking?"

"Natasha taught me- it's called French toast apparently. You put bread soaked in egg mixture in this pan and it fries or something." My eyebrows furrowed in confusion as I turned again to explain. He was stood so close to me, I could not move in any direction without hurting either myself or him.

"Finally, why are you so easily startled this fine morn?" He asked. I froze whilst poking- his question caught me rather off guard.

"I'm sorry?" I stuttered, turning the soggy bread over in the pan.

"You're far more alert than this normally… did you have nightmares again?" He ventured, standing next to me so I could see him in my peripheral. I didn't answer, but continue to stand uselessly in front of the oven.

"If you want to talk about it-"

"Thank you, but I don't wish to talk about it. I'm an adult; I am capable of handling something childish." I retorted curtly.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean anything by my question, I just hate to see a friend in pain." His tone was hurt. I instantly felt guilty. Knowing the toast was safe, I turned to face him squarely. I used magic to manipulate the spoon to continually poke and play with the toast.

"I am sorry, I shouldn't have been so rude, that was not my intention I promise. You're correct, I did have a nightmare, but it is a sore topic of discussion and I think if I don't mention it it'll leave me be." I said, emerald colliding with sapphire as our eyes met.

"Your eyes are darker this morning." He was murmuring again.

"Is that a good thing, or bad?" I asked with a small smile.

"I don't know- surely you're the expert?" I chuckled softly. Without warning, his fingers traced my face, from my eyebrow down the side all the way down my jaw line to my chin. I shivered under his cool touch- however my skin burned where his finger trailed. Again without warning, he pulled my chin to meet him. My heart fluttered and then accelerated, my eyes clearly bewildered. I moved where he guided me. We were so close we could feel each other's breath- we both hesitated, taking in the moment. His hands snaked down to my hips, strong and masculine, pulling me flush to him. Suddenly a terrible beeping rang throughout the house, just before our lips met for the first time. I gasped and pulled away from his clutch. I turned off the beeping machine and snatched the pan from off the stove. The toast was burning. I was embarrassed by the predicament. I tried not to focus on the past few minutes, but it dominated my thoughts. I served the toast that had thankfully not burnt. I avoided eye contact with him- I was afraid of his facial expression. I couldn't even bring myself to read his thoughts. I kept my head down as I chewed on the French toast. It was foreign on my tongue, but it was delicious all the same. The silence dragged on for what seemed like hours. Finally, he spoke.

"That was delicious. Thank you." My heart fluttered to hear him speak.

"You're very welcome." I said, still unable to smile.

"I suppose we need to go and see SHIELD?" He asked. I nodded and transported to my chambers. I pulled out modern clothing. Natasha guided me into what went with what. I pulled out a pair of skinny trousers. They were called jeans. They were comfortable when I put them on- however I was still not used to wearing trousers. Normally only men wore them. I pulled out a beautiful black shirt that had white lacings on it. It was quite revealing- I was worried about what all would think. I studied myself in the mirror- I was pleased. The jeans and shirt accentuated my curves. I put on a pair of black high heeled shoes that went well with my clothes. Then I transported back down stairs, a small pit of dread welling at the thought of having to face him after our awkward encounter. Thankfully it was something that only he and I knew about. I wasn't aware where I was headed was where he was stood innocently. I almost crashed into him. With a gasp I stumbled backwards- on my high heels I knew I would topple over. He ran forward and steadied me.

"Thank you." I said, still avoiding eye contact. Make eye contact for goodness sake woman.

"No problem." With a shaky breath I released myself from his masculine grip to push firmly on the large crimson button that was positioned by the metallic door. Five minutes of silence and eye contact aversion later, Tony and Steve arrived at the door. Tony had a smug grin on his face, and Steve had a sympathetic glance to cast my way.

"Hello boys." I murmured; glad to look at someone in the eye again.

"Hello." Tony replied, laughter in his voice. I shackled Loki, but avoided the gag. Somehow I doubted he'd speak. I grabbed his hands gently, and almost let go in surprise when a small spark of electricity struck where we made contact. With a short gasp, I continued to shackle him. Tony, still grinning, proceeded to push Loki from behind, whilst Steve and I walked on ahead in mutual silence.

"Are you okay, Sigyn?" He finally asked.

"Yes thank you Steve, are you alright?" I replied out of politeness. He nodded, but I could see his mind was elsewhere.

"Ignore Tony- don't let him give you a hard time." He said with a small smile. I smiled back in confusion.

"Umm… thank you? Why would Tony give me a hard time?" He didn't answer, and we continued to walk in silence. My eyebrows were furrowed in confusion. We arrived in the glass meeting room, where Tony angered me, where I met the Avengers, and where I first had mortal breakfast. The whole team was in there- and they all cast me mischievous glances. I was instantly suspicious.

"Okay, I'm not even going to let you take your time anymore. What do you all find so funny?" I demanded, hands on my hips.

"I love the outfit you're wearing… very sexy." Tony winked, strutting away. I glared at his back, hoping to burn holes through him. I heard Loki's shackles release, and my heart fluttered. His hands are free.

"You two were very intimate." Tony began. My heart sank.

"How was the French toast? And all the angsty lust?" I shut my eyes, hoping this whole day to be a dream- more like a nightmare.

"The CCTV turned on, Sigyn- we were not deliberately spying on you. It turned on because you used magic to stir a wooden spoon. We would've left the footage alone, had Tony not spotted… something." Clint reassured, once again fiddling with one of his darned arrows. With a resentful sigh, I sat down heavily on the seat.

"My personal life is none of your concern. And you will wipe that smug grin off your face Tony, or I shall come over there and slap it off." I hissed. This just made Tony laugh harder. With a growl, I walked out of the room. It wasn't until I was near my cage that I realised that I had left Loki behind, alone. With the whole group. With a sigh, I turned back into the glass room.

"A dramatic exit indeed." Tony muttered. I glared at him, before grabbing Loki roughly by the hands and pulling him through the door. It did breach security, but Fury already knew where I was taking him. Now in private, I made a brave move, and looked him in the eyes.

"Hey." I whispered with a smile. He smiled my smile.

"Hello again." He replied. He leaned in slowly, cupping my face in his long hands. One hand moved to my hips. Once again, we felt each other's hot shallow breaths on the other's lips. I cherished the intimacy, it was so beautiful. In a sudden wave of urgency, our lips met, unable to keep apart any longer. It was so beautiful- his lips were slow to work against mine, but I urged him on, showing him how to do it, and we found a rhythm. My hands were at his waist, but I snaked them up to tangle in his raven hair. Our entanglement lasted a few minutes longer, and then we broke apart at the same time. Our lips broke apart, but our hands did not. Instead our foreheads met, and we stared deeply into each other's eyes.

"The CCTV." He whispered.

"I know- let the chips fall where they may. Their judgement has no power over me." I replied with a smile.

"We ought to go back- you appear to have calmed down considerably." He said, finally letting go of me completely. I suppressed a moan- I lived for his touch, apparently. We didn't hold hands on the way back to the glass rooms, but we remained shoulder to shoulder, with me only slightly ahead of him. We were greeted with silence and stunned looks- I felt smug about this. Tony and Steve's mouths were open, and Bruce's hands lay limp at their sides. Natasha and Clint seemed to be the only pair that were unfazed by Loki and my actions.

"Any smart comments you wish to make Tony?" I said, turning to face him directly. He gently shook his head of his shocked reverie to snap back.

"A bit hot and heavy in the cage there girl." He muttered, turning to talk to Fury. He was eyeing me in a way that made it unable for me to decipher his emotions. With a brief roll of my eyes, I spun on my heel to face Bruce.

"Yes? You're quiet now but I bet…" I paused to take a dramatic step forward.

"I bet your brilliant mind is burning with questions." I finished. He averted his gaze back to the computer screen that he fumbled to tap. I smirked.

"See? It's all good and well to tease a girl when she's vulnerable, but when she's back on her feet…" I trailed off.

"She bites hard." Clint heckled, earning chuckles from the men that had suggestive thoughts on their mind.

"Yes they do." I said with a wistful nod. All this time, whilst I was displaying my infamous attitude, Loki was silent. Concerned, I spun again on my heel to face him. His face was blank; emotionless.

"I'm going back to the house." He murmured, before allowing five armed agents to shackle him and lead him away. Speechless, my eyes followed him. I forced a calm expression on my face, although on the inside I was hurt.

"Why would he just leave like that?" Tony pondered in a very sarcastic and mean manner. I deserved it.

"Maybe you can't kiss properly." He said. I winced- that really hurt.

"Thank you Tony." I whispered, biting back a few tears.

"Tony…" Steve warned, an arm extended. Tony did not take heed of the well advised warnings.

"God, you must be awful to get rejected by the God of mischief." He continued, stepping forward to confront me. I took an automatic step back, vulnerable.

"Tony, please don't…" Clint said. Somewhere in my consciousness I was faintly surprised that Clint was telling him to stop. On occasion he could be just as agitating as Tony.

"No, I'm good- if she's as good at fighting as she is at maintaining stable relationships with evil psychopathic villains, I do not live in fear." That did it. With a tiny inaudible hiss, my fist snapped forward to connect with his ignorant face. With a shocked gasp, he crumpled to the floor in shock.

"Bitch…" He groaned, as he held his face in pain. He awkwardly stumbled to his feet. I watched him in disgust. No one came to his aid. I smirked at that.

"Sorry, what were you saying about my fighting?" I asked, folding my arms. Steve snorted. Satisfied, I turned to leave the room, when I heard him mutter.

"I'm sure Loki was so impressed when you had his tongue down your throat." The insult barely made sense, but he should've known better. I threw a mound of ice at him- and he flew into the furthest wall.

"Both of you, stop it!" Bruce cried. We ignored him. Tony ran to tackle me to the ground- I dodged him and threw a swift kick at him in the gut. However, my foot connected with something hard, metallic and glowing in his chest. This threw me off guard and he used the distraction to pull my one standing leg from beneath me, causing me to fall awkwardly to the floor, trapping one arm beneath my waist. I summoned shadows, and they twisted around Tony, suspending him in the air. His face was one of shock and annoyance. Whilst he was trapped, I stood up, straightened my clothes and grabbed his neck by my hands. The shadows wisped away, leaving me alone to handle Tony's weight. However, he was lither than I first thought, and suspending him in the air with my arm was not as difficult. I realised that he wouldn't give in, so using all my power I threw him to the ground in front of me. Stunned and groaning, he did not move. I put a heeled foot on his chest. He looked at my feet fearfully, wondering what I would do with it.

"You had your warnings, Tony. You are an insufferable bastard." I said.

"Why are you here? You're not even a hero- not in my eyes. You are just someone who makes sarcastic comments in a ridiculous iron suit." I commented, before releasing him. No one dared move- afraid.

"No one ever underestimate me, understood?" I asked, casting glances at everyone in the room. They all nodded before looking at their feet. I held my arms out for the shackles. I didn't protest when I felt the harsh metal traps secure my arms uncomfortably together. I didn't protest when they clamped my mouth with a gag either.

"It's just for today- you have to learn that you can't resort to violence every time Tony's being an ass." Fury said. I nodded. We walked slowly to the safe house. The door opened to reveal a stressed Loki.

"Why is she shackled?" He asked incredulously. I would've smirked had the agitating gag not bound my mouth shut.

"For almost killing Tony." One of the younger agents said excitedly. I rolled my eyes at the exaggeration. Loki snorted.

"Good for her I say. Here, let her free so she can come in." He said, pressing himself against the wall to allow me through. The gag and shackles were removed, and I flexed my jaw in relief. He folded his arms, staring purposefully into my eyes.

"Tell me what happened. Now."
