Haunt me Chapter 10- Unexpected arrival

I didn't sleep for more than a few hours that night. I was too worried over Loki and Thanos to sleep. The thought of never seeing my familiar Loki was heart wrenching. I knew that I couldn't go- it wasn't possible unless it was a dire and necessary emergency. I even considered trying to kill myself in order to see Fury, but I knew that the only thing that would happen concerned me being hospitalized.

"You can't sleep either." A voice murmured from my doorway. I sat up quickly and nodded at the tall figure.

"How long is it until you depart?" My tone was sad and quiet. My heart ached at the thought of anyone dying. I couldn't bring myself to imagine how I could survive without Loki. I still couldn't figure out how I managed to survive those long years when I was dragged away from him by my arrogant father.

"An hour at the most. Might as well get dressed and then we have the time to ourselves to relax. I am not hungry." He said, snapping to dress into his battle armour.

"Couldn't you just refuse and stay their prisoner?" I whined. He chuckled humourlessly at that.

"No, because then I would be their prisoner and would have to accompany them. There's no way out of it." He sighed. I pulled out a beautiful gothic shirt with ravens and dark trees, and a pair of dark jeans and ran to the bathroom. I had a quick soak in the shower and trimmed my body and then put on clothes and rejoined him. It felt good to refresh myself.

"That looks stunning on you." He complimented, his emerald eyes trailing my body from my shoes to my eyes. His eyes left shivers where they looked. At one point I had to cross my legs.

"You look striking in that armour. I always loved your helmet." I murmured, stepping closer to stroke the long horns. I don't know what brought about his decision, but after these murmurs a low growl erupted from his throat and he brought my head roughly to his. I responded with the same passion, and our lips crashed together. We were both breathing heavily, and I pulled my lips away to regain composure. However, he began to kiss my neck, my ears, my jaw line, and trailed all the way down to the base of my neck. He gently nibbled the nape of my neck and I groaned, pulling his head by his horns back up to my lips. After a few moments, he repeated his neck nibbling, only this time his horns delicately trailing my skin. I moaned, giddy from his touch. Suddenly we were interrupted by a sharp knocking at the door. He kissed me a moment longer, before leaving to answer the door. I corrected my hair and checked my image in the mirror before meeting with our rude interruption. Fury was waiting with a raised eyebrow.

"It's time to leave." He said gravely. I nodded sadly, all passionate thoughts banished from my mind as I prepared to bid farewell.

"I will give you a minute or two of privacy. Sigyn you are free to go to the glass room. No doubt there will be news coverage of this. Agent Speck will turn the television on to the correct channel and you can watch our progress." He said, turning to leave. There was a painful lump in my throat as I faced Loki.

"I don't want you to go out there." I admitted.

"It's another battle. I have survived plenty in the past." He reassured. I shook my head defiantly. His words meant nothing whilst my imagination played out the different scenarios and outcomes of the coming confrontation.

"Yes, but you were battling mainly the Jotuns or your brother. This is Thanos. His very name strikes fear so strongly in my heart it almost cripples me." My heartbeat was erratic. He gingerly curled his hand around the back of my neck, and his other hand cradled the side of my face. Then he leant in to kiss me. This was not the rough passion we experienced previously- this was desperation. A farewell that expressed romance and emotion so strong it took my breath away. Neither of our lips moved- we stayed linked to each other. It was so beautiful I almost cried. He broke away gently. I noticed his eyes were closed for the duration of the kiss. Fury walked in the moment we broke apart. Loki's fingers pulled away from me, and took a piece of my heart with him.

"No…" I whispered, pulling him to me. It was no use- he carried on walking. With a last, sorrowful look back, he strode away, his head low to the ground. I looked at Fury, hoping to convey the betrayal I felt.

"It's for his and your good." He defended, before nodding his goodbye.

After an agent informed me they'd left, I walked numbly to the glass room. As promised, a gawky young boy turned the television on and I could watch the coverage of the confrontation. Currently, the people reporting were videoing the sky, as they watched Thanos hurtling slowly to the ground.

"We are 10 minutes away from the invasion. SHIELD representatives have refused to make any comments, but according to officials the Avengers plus a newbie have said to be preparing for confrontation." The woman that spoke had perky breasts, seductive red lipstick and black eye make up. The shirt she wore was so revealing that as she spoke her inappropriate parts became more animated than her voice. I noticed the males in the room were all staring with taunting eyes.

"I'd tap that." I heard one whisper. I was so nervous I almost threw him through the wall, when all I meant to do was bind his mouth closed for the duration of the confrontation between Thanos and the team. I heard collective laughter at the comment and then my reaction. I turned to fix them a hard glare, and they soon quietened.

"We now speak to scientist Dr. Daley, who says that this is not an official threat." They blared on and on about how Thanos was no threat. I ended up shouting at the television for being so untruthful.

"It is a damn well threat and you know it!" I shouted. I made several of the amateur agents jump with fright, to my amusement. Suddenly, there were shouts of excitement from the film crew and the gathering crowd as the team arrived.

"Iron Man we love you!" A chorus echoed throughout the arrival. I watched each of them step off in their protective armour. Fury arrived first, his face one of pride at the admiration of the crowd. Then arrived at the same time Tony, Steve and Bruce. Close behind them stalked Clint and Natasha. At the back of the group was Loki. My heart fluttered at the superior stance he held. His horns glinted in the sunlight.

"And the team has arrived; there are two that weren't there at the first Avenger battle. That's the front man and the man trailing behind. Rumours are already SPARKING over who the man at the back could be. Gecko girl on Twitter says that she thinks the man is from the same place as Thor due to the armour. Get involved now online. Text or email…" I ignored the woman and concentrated on watching warily. Suddenly the crowd screamed in fear. The camera zoomed in on the sky and suddenly I could distinctly make out the figure of Thanos. His skin was a deep purple with a blue tint. His muscles stood out and made my skin crawl with fear at the thought of the damage that muscle could cause. Suddenly the camera switched to a view of Bruce who had now transformed into the Hulk. The crowd began to run away. I noticed Loki held his ground along with the rest of the group. Amidst the chaos, one could easily escape unnoticed. The camera went jerky and the footage became corrupted. Then Thanos landed and all Hel broke loose. I heard an awful screech of metal, and the camera focused on a large metal building. It was so tall and impressive; my jaw was slack in awe for a brief moment. At the top of the tower it held a large circular object at the top of it. Suddenly with a large creak, it began to fall. I noticed the team had run and disappeared from the camera's view; in the direction of the falling tower. The presenter screamed "The water tower!" before running away, abandoning her position and intentions.

"That's where Thanos landed, and that's where the team'll be at." Agent Speck said, his voice shocked.

"No." I whispered, utterly horrified. The agent made no move to stop me as I ran out the door. As soon as I was out of the building where I couldn't be contained, I focused my energy on Loki and transported to where he was. I disobeyed Fury's order, but I didn't care. I knew all along I couldn't stand by and watch Loki die. I sprinted into the area. The water tower had collapsed by now, and the water contained within it spilled out and flooded the area. I was not disturbed by the watery expanse. I waded through the rushing water to reach Fury. He didn't look surprised to see me.

"I thought I asked you to stay put." He sounded stressed.

"I saw the water tower collapse- I couldn't just stay and watch you all perish!" I cried.

"Anyone missing?" I asked. I prayed Fury said no.

"Yes. Clint, Banner and Loki." He said. My heart sank as I realised that Loki may be dying or dead, whilst I was talking to Fury. I sprinted to where the water tower lay. I noticed Thanos lay still- unnaturally still.

"LOKI!" I screamed over the screaming and the thunder from the clouds that rolled in whilst I was distracted.

"Thunder…" I trailed off. A blinding flash of light made me scream and I fell to the floor as I was blinded. A large shudder brought me to my senses. There, crouching on the floor stood another hero.

"Thor!" I cried in relief. I ran up to him and hugged him briefly. He spun me around, delighted.

"Sigyn, I have missed you sorely." He exclaimed.

"I've missed you too! No time to converse, Loki's missing, and if he's dead I shall surely die too." I cried, sprinting away in the direction of Thanos.

"Loki!" I continued to cry out his name in fear. I approached the water tower. It looked far larger on the television. I looked at one of the legs and saw a figure in gold, green and black trapped beneath it.

"Oh no." I whispered, pelting to him.

"Please don't be dead!" I cried, tears streaming down my cheeks. I held his head roughly as I attempted to gain a response. He groaned and shifted his head to indicate consciousness. I laughed in relief.

"I'm so sorry; I should've made more of an effort to stop them from taking you!" I babbled, desperate to keep him awake. His emerald eyes were alert and wide as he surveyed his surroundings. Then he spotted Thor stood behind me silently.

"What is he doing here?" His voice was high in disbelief.

"Brother I saw how endangered Midgard was. If I had any idea Thanos was arriving I would've come sooner." He stated, taking a hesitant step forward. He wielded Mjolnir protectively against his chest.

"I'm really fine; I just could do with this large tower removed from me. I can't feel the lower half of my body." His body shook and he winced in pain. Thor threw the water tower away from his brother. My heart warmed at the sight.

"Thank you…" He murmured. His eyes closed and his head slacked.

"No, no, no, no!" I cried, patting his cheek to wake him up.

"Somebody please help!" I cried. Thor grasped Loki and I by the waists using his giant bulky arm and soared into the sky using Mjolnir. We were deposited outside a hospital supported by SHIELD. There Loki could get treatment without concern over our different bodies due to being of Asgard. Our DNA wasn't too different, but either way it was best to be cautious. Loki's face was a deathly pale, and my heart rate increased as I saw how limp and frail he looked. His helmet had been left behind, and his armour was dented and scratched. He had a large bloody and gritty gash down the side of his face, and there was crimson trickling down his left arm. Both his arms hung limply in his brother's arms. I choked back a sob at the sight of him.

"Oh Thor it's all my fault…" I wept, wiping my stinging eyes furiously. Thor looked at me with pitying eyes but did not speak. I could feel my heart crumple in fear and anguish under his gaze.

"I'm so sorry." I whispered. He carried Loki into the hospital. The look on the nurses' faces was unforgettable. The looks were of shock and determination. Their personal lives were immediately put on hold to tend to Loki. I smiled softly as I realised that he was in safe hands. A nagging thought crossed my mind. If he survives. They carted him away in a trolley. His arm hung off the edge of the trolley and almost trailed the floor. Broken and pressed with my back against the wall, I sunk slowly to the floor and began to sob. My fingers drove through my hair as my ribs racked at the sadness. I would've been in control if it weren't his arms. They hung loosely- no life pumping through them. And I couldn't be there to hold on to them.
