Well it certainly has been a while, so sorry about that! This chapter is probably my favorite I've written so far and it sort of starts in a miscellaneous spot seeing as we left the last chapter in a weird place. This is the day after chapter 6 just so we're all on the same page. This is partly a party chapter and so since I quite frankly suck at describing outfits I made a collage on Polyvore which I will link in my bio and I am also posting it on my tumblr! Which for those of you that don't know is .com (remove the parentheses). I will generally make more outfits on Polyvore if there's something I reallly want you guys to see and envision so anyway I hope you all enjoy! Don't forget to review and stuff, see you soon!
"Rebekah, you cannot be serious." Caroline grumbled as she sat on the large pink covered bed. Rebekah rolled her eyes and sighed loudly—on purpose. "My whole butt is going to be hanging out of that! You are way shorter than I am!" She continued as she eyed the skin tight black dress with distaste.
"Oh you're a shadowhunter stop being so bloody lame. A little skin never hurt anyone, plus you'll have the glamour on and anyone who isn't supernatural won't be able to see you anyway." She answered promptly as she held out the black dress that was absolutely way too short. Caroline smiled and shook her head, laughing as the other blonde retreated into her walk-in closet. Two minutes later she re-emerged with a black and teal pixie dress that was absolutely stunning. Caroline raised her eyebrows in approval and quickly bared a smile.
"Now that's the reaction I was looking for!" Rebekah stated quickly as she set the dress down on her bed. "Is this more to your liking Sister Forbes?" She teased playfully causing Caroline to let out a dry laugh. "I'm sure the convent won't mind." She continued with a giggle. She couldn't help but admire the bond and relationship they'd developed so quickly. Perhaps it was from their first meeting or maybe it was the secret that the Mikaelson girl was keeping from her whole family when she didn't have to. Either way she'd found a friend in this hell hole she was unfortunately stuck in. "I cannot believe Elijah asked us to do this, it's very unlike him. Him willingly sending me out on a mission is definitely a first." Rebekah stated curiously. Caroline nodded her head in approval of the statement. Elijah had secretly asked Caroline and Rebekah to attend a Demon Masquerade Party in the hopes they'd be able to infiltrate rumors he'd heard of Demons having Mundanes in captivity. The leader was very fond of blonde woman and there just so happened to be two currently residing at the London Institute. Her family wasn't all too fond that she was being asked to dangerously interfere in a problem that didn't pertain to them. Caroline however couldn't be more excited to do it knowing that her and Rebekah going out would undoubtedly piss Klaus and Kol off and that was an opportunity she was not going to miss.
"So what are you planning on wearing?" Caroline asked curiously, if she'd chosen such a beautiful dress for her she can't even imagine what she's chosen for herself to wear. She let out a large smile and retreated into her closet and emerged with a rose pink dress draped with black lace.
"Ah, so you do care about clothes. Caroline you just keep giving me reasons to like you!" She continued as she handed her a pair of silver heels. Caroline smirked and thanked goodness that she can walk in heels not that Rebekah would have taken no for an answer had she not been able to. "Alright go on, get dressed so I can do your hair and then place your mask on." She ordered more than suggested. She sighed and got up grabbing the dress and shoes while on her way to the other side of the room where the bathroom was. Caroline refrained from asking how she even had masks but knowing Rebekah she wasn't all too surprised. Caroline stripped her clothes off and slipped into the dress and heels. The final result was the dress reaching her mid-thigh in length which was about as short as she'd go. She frowned when she suddenly remembered the runes all over their skin, if the demons saw them their cover would be blown in seconds. She could create a rune to make them invisible but that'd have to be after they left. Gathering her clothes off the floor she opened the bathroom door to see Rebekah standing there completely dressed while in the process of straightening her hair. At hearing the door open the other blonde turned around flat iron in hand to see the end result.
"My my don't you look gorgeous! Sit down in front of the mirror I'm almost done with my hair." She concluded as she gestured with her black high-heeled foot to the vanity.
"Uhm Bekah we should probably take sweaters or something you know because of the runes." The other blonde frowned and shook her head. "Just until we leave and I can portal us out of here. I'll put a rune that will hide the rest." She offered carefully as Rebekah walked over and started to curl her blonde locks. It wasn't long before she was applying makeup to her face and carefully attaching the black laced mask on her head.
"Oh here! Before I forget." She added quickly, handing her a silver infinity necklace and ring set. "Can't have you walking out of here without jewelry. Do me a favor, tie my mask for me." She asked as Caroline gripped the intricate silver and gold mask and carefully tied a tight knot. Grabbing two black cardigans the girls pushed open Rebekah's double doors and walked down the hall. Of course, that peace didn't last as they'd precisely run into Kol as he was walking towards his own room. Raising an eyebrow he held out both his hands, halting them in the process.
"Just where the hell do you both think you're going?" Kol asked wearily and cautiously. Both girls froze mid-step and glanced at each other.
"Why don't you talk to Elijah about it, now if you'll excuse us." Rebekah tried with little to no luck as he only grew more interested. Now that they wouldn't tell him where they were going he absolutely had to know.
"Bekah, where are you going? Either you tell me right now or I go and get Nik and you can tell the both of us." He threatened and she could hear Rebekah's breath hitch and just as she was about to give in—it was too late.
"Tell me what?"
Klaus was walking down the long hallway to Rebekah's room wanting to talk to her as she hadn't been seen in hours. Caroline either but he quickly shrugged that idea out of his head, he didn't need to know where she was it was none of his concern. Her insufferable family members were using the day to train and her not being there certainly raised some questionable doubts. As he was turning the corner he heard Kol's incessant yelling and Rebekah's elevated voice.
"Either you tell me right now or I go and get Nik and you can tell the both of us." He heard Kol threaten, well he was surely intrigued now.
"Tell me what?" He asked as he turned the corner and was completely surprised by what he was seeing. His sister and Caroline stood there all dolled up from head to toe. As much as he tried not to stare too long at Caroline it was of no use. Starting with her silver heels his gaze lifted from her creamy long legs, the teal of the dress all the way up her chest and finally, resting on her soft face hidden behind a mask. She looked stunning, they both did. However, what he irked to know was why. Raising an eyebrow he sauntered forward and halted as he stood next to Kol.
"What's going on brother?" He asked curiously glancing at Caroline once more smiling as he met his gaze and held it there.
"Precisely what I'm trying to figure out Nik. Now on what occasion would our sister be all dressed up with nowhere to go?" He asked seriously as he attempted to unravel everything.
"On no occassions." Klaus answered truthfully intrigued by where he was taking this.
"Which can only mean that our dear Bekah and her newly acquainted american friend here have somewhere to actually be. Do share girls, where are you off to?" He instigated harshly. Rebekah narrowed her eyes and stepped forward.
"I already told you, ask Elijah." She answered vaguely which his sister only did when she was trying to avoid giving a direct answer.
"Niklaus, Kol please, let them through." Klaus heard his older brother order—perfect timing. They both spun around to see him leaning against the wall. "I thought I told you both to be gone before 9." He proceeded to say as he pushed off the wall and walked over to them at the end of the hall.
"Well in our defense you said 'make your way out from 8:30 to 9:00' it's not our fault both your brothers chose today to come this way." Caroline finally spoke which only furthered their confusion.
"Hold up! Elijah what's going on?" Kol demanded at the obvious alliance before him.
"Rebekah and Miss Forbes have agreed to go on a mission for the Institute." He answered promptly only causing their eyes to widen.
"By themselves?!" Kol continued in outrage as Klaus could only stare at the smug faces on the girl's faces.
"We've received calls from other institutes saying that the Lockwoods are holding Mundanes captives and holding a meeting for a potential attack against Shadowhunters. The girls have agreed to go to their Masquerade tonight and scope for information." He answered calmly but this time Klaus was just as furious as his younger hot-tempered brother.
"You cannot be serious! Do you know what happens to any women let alone any blonde women that get within a mile radius of the Lockwoods?" Klaus yelled forcefully and only continued when Elijah didn't produce an answer. "Exactly, not a single person ever see's them again. They're not going I won't allow it." He concluded setting his foot down in the hopes it'd have even the smallest effect.
"And what makes you think I care what you will and won't allow? Mother is in Idris and in her absences the power of the Institute resides to me, therefore what I say goes and that's final." Elijah answered absolutely. Klaus and Kol's temper only flared even more.
"This is absolutely ludicrous, Rebekah could get killed don't you care?" Kol asked in disbelief.
"Of course I care! I care for all of us which is why this needs to be done. If they are indeed planning an attack on us we need to be cautious of it or we'll all perish. They both know the risks and they are holding to their word, let them through." Elijah barked. Klaus and Kol glanced at each other and lowered their gazes, not intending on moving an inch. This mission could kill them, the both of them and for some reason Caroline's potential death bothered him a lot more than he was comfortable with. Klaus was caught off guard as a slightly familiar grasp enclosed around his arm and shoved him towards the ground. Glancing up he saw Caroline's angelic face in complete concentration. Looking over to his brother he saw that she was taking them both down. Grunting at the pain of being thrashed to the ground he lifted his head to see both blondes step right over them and strut away.
"Bloody hell." Kol grumbled as he grabbed his arm in discomfort. Both getting up rather slowly they couldn't help but stare at Elijah in disbelief and disappointment.
"What are you going to do if something happens to them and they don't come back?" Klaus grumbled in sincerity for their safety.
"Rebekah has always showed immense promise and the same goes for Caroline based on what I've heard. Underestimation will get us nowhere, they'll be fine." He answered simply and turned his back to waltz away. Klaus mumbled a few curses under his breath and retreated to find Caroline's family, he had a few detailed questions for them. Questions he was going to get answers to by sincerity or by mere force.
"You're resume of being beneficial just keeps getting bigger. My brothers were about 10 seconds short of exploding back there!" Rebekah yelled as the ran in their heels down the street, looking for an alley. Caroline giggled and tightened her grip on the other girls hand as she pulled her into a dark corner on one of the streets. Pulling out her stele she grabbed Rebekah's arm and drew an unfamiliar rune then waited for it to take effect. One by one the dark black marks on her body were concealed by glamour. Sighing in relief as it worked she drew the same pattern on her own arm and relaxed.
"Alright let's get this portal open, ready to go?" Caroline asked as she drew yet another marking, this time on the brick wall of the alley.
"Ready as I'll ever be." She answered and squinted her eyes as the large blue liquid like circle formed. Caroline nodded, thought of the location then stepped through. Seconds later her body re-materialized outside of the Lockwood Mansion in downtown London. Looking to her left Rebekah pulled up next to her and let out a short breath as the portal closed. Sticking her stele in the fabric of her dress Caroline linked Rebekah's arm through hers and together they walked up the steps of the large 4 story house. The security guard that was undoubtedley a werewolf didn't cast them so much as a second glance. Opting just to open the door and let them right through, which was ultimately to be expected. Following the crowd deeper into the house it wasn't long till they're gazes met a rather large and extravegant ballroom with hundreds if not thousands of downworlders in it.
"It's now or never." Caroline mumbled softly as they saw 2 guys quickly approaching them. "You know what to do if something goes wrong don't you?" She continued as they grew closer faster than they wanted.
"Scream bloody murder? Yeah I got it." Rebekah's accented voice answered truthfully as she gulped and quickly composed her attitude. Placing a rather flirtatious grin on her face she raised her arm and waved at the two gentlemen approaching. Caroline wondered how the hell her brothers kept her in the dark for so long, she was a pro at this. Following her lead she too smirked and glanced over at them both.
"Well aren't you ladies just a delight?" The taller one asked as he leaned more over towards Rebekah. Fantastic she thought, they've been with them all of twenty seconds and already they were picking and choosing. The shorter one had a smirk that she just wanted to smack right off as he spoke.
"I agree, it's not every day we get women as radiant as the two of you." He responded quickly. Hearing Rebekah giggle with fake glee she remembered they had a job to do and part of that job was playing the part. Placing her hand on his chest she smiled forcefully.
"Isn't every night we encounter gentleman as handsome and open as the two of you." She played along. She heard a low growl of approval and tried not to show disgust when he placed a hand on her waist.
"Forgive my manners, allow me to introduce ourselves. I'm Tyler and this is my brother Mason—Lockwood." He revealed and it took everything both girls had not to blurt out 'oh crap'.
So next chapter we get to see the whole party as well as what Klaus asks the Mystic Falls gang. We will also find out that our dear Caroline has to attend another party and this time not with Rebekah. That party won't be till like chapter 10 or 11 though so we can all recover from the events of the masquerade. I'm updating again on Tuesday so make sure you stay tuned! Until next time my lovelies!
