A/N- Heeeeeeyo! This one is short and sweet. I had a really fun time writing it. There is ooc-ness from Light, but seeing as she is an expert at body language in this story she has to be versatile, no?
Now this was an interesting turn of events. Noctis leaned on the kitchen counter, bent at the hip, cheek resting on his fist shaped hand as his elbow pressed against the cold surface. His other hand thrummed against the said surface. Noctis tilted his face to the side by a fraction as the amusement pranced across his features. The corners of his lip were tugged up and one eyebrow was arched subtly. Yup, he was having a good time.
"Prompto."
"Yes Light?"
"Don't lie to me."
"What?"
"You heard me loud and clear Prompto. Don't. Lie. To. Me."
"I don't know what you're talking about, Light."
Oh yes, the pretty boy, smooth talker versus the feisty body reader extraordinaire. Prompto was a trouble maker, yes, but he seldom got in trouble. If not for his silver tongue, Prompto would of absolutely had some more… permanent injuries; with hitting on every breathing human female and all. Coincidentally enough with those females came angry exes, boyfriends and husbands alike in hot pursuit. Prompto was always frightfully unaware of the very apparent danger that lurked in the shadows during his misadventures, but there's only so much you can do.
"Damn it Prompto fess up already." Light huffed causing her to blow the bangs that disrupted her vision away, meaning that there was nowhere for Prompto to hide from the painfully accusing glare. Noctis snorted lightly, shaking his head, the smirk still blatantly plastered to his face. He could practically see the life slowly leave his blonde friend as it seemed that death itself was staring him down. Always the one to cling to life, Prompto engaged in the increasingly dangerous waltz.
"I'm telling you Light it wasn't me." Very impressive, the dark haired man could see no leakage of deceit whatsoever; he was a top notch actor indeed. Prompto brought his hand to scratch the tip of his nose using his thumb, all the while straightening out his tensed muscles. He stood tall and proud with his chin tilted slightly up and looking down at Lightning, an aura of only the best of the best surrounded him. The silent challenge was immediately accepted by the lone female. She tilted her chin down; equal to the distance that Prompto tilted his up. She too relaxed her body before standing upright, placing her hands on her hips. As the situation escalated, so did Noctis' posture. He no longer slouched on the counter, but instead he stood more upright with his leaning mass being supported by his extended arms, palms flat on the counter.
"That's strike one Prompto. Pretty good, but not good enough. There was one fatal flaw in your movement. You're lying, I know." A crease formed in between Prompto's eyebrows, but it vanished just as fast as it appeared. Still not backing down, Prompto gently cleared his throat.
"Oh come on Light, we're friends right? Besides I just got here a couple of minutes before you and Noct did. There's no way I could've done it that fast even if I wanted to.
"Prompto, how old are you?"
"…Twenty one?"
"Favorite food?" She continued.
"Uhm…milkshakes?"
"What's your dream?"
"Well… I want to be the best damn actor this world has ever seen." He shot a dazzling grin thereafter.
"Yeah? So what were you doing before you got here?"
"At the gym. Training."
"That's your alibi?"
"Yup." Light's head swayed back and forth from left to right. What seemed like a small laugh escaped her mouth. She then took a stride or two so that she was right in front of the blonde. Looking at him she bit her lip to suppress a smile; catching the attention of the two males in the room. Try as she might a noticeable grin poked through. A playful twinkle of triumph and certainty saturated her eyes. Noctis on the other hand looked quite puzzled. How can she be so sure of herself? What did she see? Both pairs of eyes then trailed to Prompto's throat, which gulped very distinctively. Game over. The one thing Noctis did understand, due to Light's education was that that was a swallow of fear. You did well Prompto. Noctis paid his respects.
"Hey Prompto?"
"Yeah Light?"
"Make sure you buy me a replacement cake okay?" At this Prompto sighed in defeat.
"Sure thing Light." Finished, she turned to Noctis and held out her hand as a signal for him to come grab it. And grab it he did. Hopping over the counter he took her hand in his and began trotting out of the kitchen to the living room. He was pulled back a bit before he heard her voice ring through his ears.
"One more thing Prompto. You have chocolate on your face still." Noctis was torn as to whether he should sympathize with his crushed friend or laugh his ass off. He chose the latter. Light let go of his hand to continue towards the couch. She lazily grabbed the remote and turned on the T.V; leaving the two men. A muffled and prolonged groan sounded from Prompto, whose head was buried in his palms. At this Noctis reeled over with another onslaught of laughter as they other male glared dagger of betrayal and hurt at him. Wiping away a tear from his eye, with the other hand clutching his abdomen he could only choke out a few words of encouragement.
"Well there's always next time Prompto." Dejectedly Prompto grabbed his car keys and left the house. Probably to get the cake he 'promised' to get. Doing his best to relax his stomach muscles he went to sit next to Light on the couch. They weren't boyfriend and girlfriend. They were just comfortable around each other and only held hands and kissed sometimes, but only in the comfort of his house. They weren't friends with benefits either, or were they? Would the benefit be not getting pummeled by her fists for holding her? Noctis didn't even know what they were, not that he was about to complain though. When he sat down and placed his feet on the table she immediately leaned onto his shoulder as he wrapped his arm around her. She felt his chest rumble; baffled she looked up at him to see his other hand cover his mouth.
"What's wrong?"
"Just recalling how distraught Prompto looked." He met her eyes and smiled at her sweetly. "How did you know he was lying anyways?"
"Mm… he did really well overall. He has the potential to become a really good actor. Don't tell him I said that though, he'd never let it go. I thought I would test out his acting skills. He kept his tone of voice exceptionally stable, which is really hard to do, but during our conversation he slipped up twice."
"Really?" Light nodded as she scooted down to lay her head on his lap, glancing up at Noctis' face. He took strands of her soft hair and twirled it around his fingers deftly.
"Yeah, when he scratched his nose was one. There's this thing called the Pinocchio effect. When we lie a hormone is triggered and it bothers the tissues in our nose, which is why we want to scratch it."
"Aptly named. What about the second one?"
"It was when I started asking him all of those questions. I asked him things that he would know for sure, and then I asked him something that he could be lying about. Did you hear the difference?" Lightning waited patiently as Noctis thought over the scenario in his head. When his eyes glimmered in recognition Light looked at him expectantly.
"For the questions that he should have had known the answers for at the top of his head there was a pause."
"And?"
"And for the question that he could've been lying had no pause."
"Which means?"
"Uhm…which means that…?"
"It means that he had his lie ready to go, he thought about it before hand. And liars are usually eager to get that excuse off of their chest, so there is little to no hesitation when being asked a question you know you're going to be asked."
"Oh." He comprehended and applied what Light had said to the situation. Once he was satisfied he looked down at her heart shaped face. "You know you're really amazing, right?"
"Not really."
"You're so cool."
"No I'm not"
"You're like one of those heroes on those shows."
"Stop it Noctis." He could see the wonderful blush form on her cheeks at his cooing words. He absolutely loved it. Before she could say anything else Noctis quickly adjusted himself so that he laid next to her and coddled her head and upper body to his, squashing her cheek to his chest as she tried to pry his arms off of her to relinquish her from the suffocating hug. She never did get him off, much to her chagrin. She settled down only when she saw the childish smile on his face, full of content. She decided to let him do as he pleased, for now anyways.
A/N- Well I hope this one was alright to read and that I explained the reasoning so it made sense.
