Doomsday, Part Two

Their feeling of superiority was short lived, though, when the Dalek returned.

"Cyber threat irrelevant." It declared. "Concentrate on the Genesis Ark." The four Daleks circled the Ark, which was a Dalek shaped copper container. Clara, Mickey, and Rose exchanged worried looks. Clara's heart was pumping loudly in her chest.

"Why are we being kept alive?" Clara whispered. This was going against everything she knew about Daleks, which was that they killed anything and everything that wasn't one of them. So, why are they not killing the three of them?

"They might need me." Rose answered. "Or- or you. Maybe even Mickey."

"What?" Mickey asked. "What is it?" Mickey played with the large yellow button in his hand. "I could transport out of here, but it only carries one and I'm not leaving you. Either of you."

Rose shook her head at him sadly. "You'd follow me anywhere. What did I do to you all those years ago?" Mickey smiled at her, just as sad.

"Guess I'm just stupid." Rose grinned.

"You're the bravest man I've ever met." Clara just stood their awkwardly as they talked. She looked around the room, but could find no way to escape without being killed by the Daleks.

"What about the Doctor?" Mickey asked.

"Oh, all right. Bravest human."

"Well, I can't think what the Daleks need with me. I'm nothing to them." Mickey told her. Clara looked at them again. Rose crossed her arms.

"You could be. So could Clara, or me. Whatever's inside that Ark is waking up, and I've seen this happen before." Rose seemed to be having some sort of flashback as she spoke. "The first time I saw a Dalek, it was broken. It was dying. But I touched it. The moment I did that, I brought it back to life."

"The Doctor said that when you travel in time in the TARDIS, you soak up background radiation." Clara inserted quietly. Rose nodded, indicating that that was what she was going to say.

"Right. It's harmless. It's just there. But in the Time War, the Daleks evolved so they could use it as a power supply. And, if the Daleks have got something inside that thing, and it needs waking up."

"They need you." Mickey stated. Clara cleared her throat.

"Or you," she reminded him. "Or me. We've all traveled in time. Any of us will do."

"But why would they build something they can't open themselves?" Mickey asked. Clara shrugged.

"The technology is stolen." The black Dalek told them, causing all three of them to jump. "The Ark is not of Dalek design." Clara turned slowly to face the Dalek.

"Then who built it?" She asked.

"The Time Lords. This is all that survives of their Home World." A chill ran through Clara's body. The only thing remaining of Gallifrey. And, just like when she had seen the Daleks for the first time, Clara had another flashback of one of her echoes.

"Doctor," her echo, a Time Lady, had run into the vaults after the old man that was the Doctor. He turned, looking at her reproachingly.

"What? What is it?" He demanded. Echo Clara shook her head.

"Sorry, but you're about to make a big mistake." The Doctor looked uncomfortable and waited for her to continue. Echo Clara crossed her arms and leaned against the TARDIS that she was standing next to. "Don't steal that one- steal this one! The navigation system's knackered, but you'll have much more fun." With a smirk, Echo Clara pushed herself off the TARDIS and opened the door with a snap of her fingers. She sauntered off, knowing the Doctor would take the one she said.

Clara shook her head, attempting to rid herself of the flashback.

"What's inside?" Rose asked. Clara was confused for a second, but remembered that they were discussing the Genesis Ark.

"The future." The black Dalek responded vaguely. The other three Daleks pulled away from the Ark.

One of the Daleks announced, "Final stage of awakening." The black Dalek looked at Clara.

"Your handprint will open the Ark." It commanded her. Clara's eyes widened. She scoffed, crossing her arms.

"Well tough, because I'm not doing it." She snapped. No way was she going to be the one to let out whatever was in there. The black Dalek pointed its whisk thing at Mickey and another Dalek aimed its whisk thing at Rose.

"Obey or the male and female will die." Clara gasped slightly. She stepped forward. Rose grabbed her arm, shaking her head at her.

"I can't let them," Clara told her.

"Clara, no." Rose said. "You can't." Clara yanked her arm out of Rose's grasp.

"I have to."

"Place your hand upon the casket." The black Dalek demanded. It came up behind Clara, pushing her forward.

"Alright!" She yelled. "You're going to kill us anyway, so what the hell?" Clara held her hand out, not quite touching the Ark.

"If you escaped the Time War, don't you want to know what happened?" Rose blurted. The black Dalek ignored her.

"Place your hand-" It continued to tell Clara.

"What happened to the Emperor?" Rose shouted. That gave all the Daleks paused. The black Dalek swung its eyestalk to stare at Rose.

"The Emperor survived?" It asked. Rose smirked.

"Till he met me. Because if these are going to be my last words, then you're going to listen. I met the Emperor, and I took the Time Vortex and I pulled it into his head and turned him into dust. Do you get that? The God of all Daleks, and I destroyed him. Ha!" Clara winced at Rose's words. She knew what was going to happen next.

"You will be exterminated!" Clara was about to slam her hand on the Ark as a distraction when the Doctor sauntered in, wearing 3D glasses.

"Oh now, hold on, wait a minute." He called. Clara's face broke into a grin, dropping her hand to her side. The Daleks started going nuts.

"Alert, alert," the black Dalek cried. "You are the Doctor."

"Sensors report he is unarmed." Another Dalek reported, scanning the Doctor. He grinned at them.

"That's me. Always." He stated. He walked over to Clara, swinging his arm around her shoulders. She felt a million times better now that he was there.

"Then you are powerless." The Dalek replied. The Doctor frowned comically.

"Not me. Never." The Doctor looked down at Clara, who looked up at him with a smile still on her face. "How are you?" She shrugged nonchalantly.

"Oh, same old, you know." He nodded. He glanced at Rose, who nodded at him to say that she was okay, too. The Doctor kissed Clara on the top of her head.

"Good." He looked over and saw Mickey, which caused his grin to grow. "And Mickity McMickey. Nice to see you!" Mickey smiled.

"And you, boss." The Daleks rolled back and forth, clearly agitated.

"Social interaction will cease!" One of them cried. The black Dalek rolled over to the Doctor and Clara.

"How did you survive the Time War?" It asked the Doctor. He held Clara tighter as he spoke.

"By fighting. On the front line. I was there at the fall of Arcadia. Someday I might even come to terms with that. But you lot ran away!" The Doctor grew angry as he spoke.

"We had to survive." The black Dalek answered. The Doctor sneered at it.

"The last four Daleks in existence." He growled. "So what's so special about you?"

"Doctor, they've got names." Rose told him. "I mean, Daleks don't have names, do they? One of them said they-"

"I am Dalek Thay." One of the Daleks stated, cutting Rose off.

"Dalek Sec."

"Dalek Jast."

"Dalek Caan." The Doctor raised his eyebrows, a manic grin on his face.

"So that's it! At last. The Cult of Skaro." He chuckled. "I thought you were just a legend." Clara looked up at him, confused.

"Who are they?" She asked quietly, hugging him tight.

"A secret order above and beyond the Emperor himself. Their job was to imagine, think as the enemy thinks. Even dared to have names. All to find new ways of killing." Mickey stepped forward, pointing at the Ark.

"But that thing, they said it was yours." Mickey told him. "I mean, Time Lords. They built it. What does it do?" The Doctor approached it, dragging Clara with him. He examined it closely.

"I don't know." He replied simply. "Never seen it before."

"But it's Time Lord." Rose protested. The Doctor shrugged.

"Both sides had secrets." The Doctor swiveled to face Dalek Sec, which was the black Dalek, who was the leader of the cult. "What is it? What have you done?" Clara had a sinking feeling as another flashback threatened to overcome her mind. Flashes of Daleks pouring out of the Ark covered her eyes. Clara began to shake.

"Time Lord science will restore Dalek supremacy." Dalek Sec replied.

"What does that mean?" The Doctor demanded. "What sort of Time Lord science? What do you mean?" Clara shook her head.

"They said one touch from a time traveller will wake it up." She told him, trying to ignore the vision. The Doctor chuckled humorlessly.

"Technology using the one thing a Dalek can't do. Touch. Sealed inside your casing. Not feeling anything ever, from birth to death, locked inside a cold metal cage. Completely alone. That explains your voice. No wonder you scream." The Doctor rambled. Dalek Sec practically shook with anger.

"The Doctor will open the Ark!" It barked. The Doctor laughed again.

"The Doctor will not." He said.

"You have no way of resisting." Dalek Sec stated. The Doctor shrugged.

"Well, you got me there. Although there is always this." The Doctor held up his sonic screwdriver. He held it right by his ear.

"A sonic probe?" The Doctor looked offended.

"That's screwdriver!" If Dalek Sec were human, he would have snorted.

"It is harmless." The Doctor smiled again. He fiddled with his screwdriver as he spoke.

"Oh, yes. Harmless is just the word. That's why I like it. Doesn't kill, doesn't wound, doesn't maim. But I'll tell you what it does do. It is very good at opening doors." He pressed the button and the door to the laboratory exploded. Clara looked and saw a Cyberman enter, along with Jake from the parallel world.

"Jake!" Clara cried happily. He waved at her before shooting his gun, as the Cyberman shot away.

"Delete! Delete! Delete! Delete!" The Cyberman chanted.

"Alert." Dalek Caan cried, eyestalk bouncing crazily. "Casing impaired. Casing impaired."

"Rose, get out!" The Doctor shouted, grabbing Clara's hand and running. Behind them, Clara heard one of the Daleks cry, "Fire power insufficient! Fire power insufficient!" Clara spotted Rose running, a balding man running next to her. Rose stumbled and the man helped her up.

"Come on." He said, grabbing Rose's hand. She stared at him as if she had seen a ghost. Rose shook her head, looking back at Mickey who was shooting his big gun.

"Mickey, come on!" She shouted. Clara did her best to keep up with the Doctor. They stopped at the door, meeting Rose and the man there. Upon a closer look, Clara recognized Pete Tyler from the parallel world.

As the Daleks restored their fire power, Dalek Sec shot a Cyberman. The explosion put Mickey off balance and, to Clara's horror, sent him flying back into the Ark. His hand touched it.

"Mickey!" Clara screamed. "Get over here! Now!" Mickey ran over to them. They all got on the other side of the door and the Doctor closed the door.

"Jake, check the stairwell. The rest of you, come on." The Doctor grabbed Clara's hand and pulled her off in some direction.
