Y6: Hair Down, Heads Up

"C'mon, Emmeline," Marlene whined as she rolled onto the floor in misery.

Emmeline ignored her as she tried on another pair of trousers.

"No, Emmeline," Dorcas stood up from her place on Lily's bed, "you are honestly taking forever."

"By the time, you get ready the Hogsmeade trip will be a week over," Lily laughed picking up the clothes Emmeline tossed to the floor and folded them.

"Alright, alright," Emmeline said leaving the trousers she had on and buttoning up a pink blouse.

"Finally," Marlene jumped up and opened the door as the girls filed out, "Let's go ladies. Hair down, heads up, and make- up that screams 'I'm a slag'!"

The girls giggled and shook their heads at Marlene's nonsense.

"Where are we going first?" Mary beamed unable to contain her excitement. Hogsmeade was always the best when the girls all went together instead of splitting up for dates.

"Well," Lily pulled out a list, "I'm running low on quills—"

"Merlin, Lily, we are not spending our entire trip shopping for school," Marlene said shoving Lily lightly.

"But I—"

"Let's go somewhere fun!" Dorcas cheered, "Three Broomsticks and then Zonko's?"

"And then we can go to the Shrieking Shack?" Emmeline said as she jumped on Lily giving her a fright.

"Fine," Lily said as the strutted through the corridors heading for the Great Hall, "but only if we can go to Tomes and Scrolls before we leave!"

"You can go to the boring book store if you want, Lily," Marlene rolled her eyes, "but we should all go to the Dancing Dogs! I heard Alessandra Point say that all the Hufflepuff boys would be there."

The girls giggled except for Lily.

"You guys are such," Lily rolled her eyes but smiled, "girls."

"Girls?" Emmeline laughed, "I'm a woman."

"Besides, Lily," Mary poked at Lily, "Amos Diggory is going to be there."

Lily gagged, "And why would I care that Diggory would be there?"

"Well, only because you've been in looooove with him since First Year," Dorcas teased.

"Who's been in love with me since First Year?" James Potter said as he meant the girls in the Common Room with the other Marauders.

"Not you, Potter," Lily flipped her hair and turned to Dorcas, "And that was before he messed about with that slag, Ramona. Then he had the nerve to make a pass on me the very next day."

"Are we talking about Big Rack Ramona?" Sirius laughed.

"How dare you call a woman such a thing?" Lily spat at him.

"Bloody hell," Sirius gestured to Lily, "you just called her a slag."

"Well she is one!" Lily shrugged defensively.

"And she also has a big rack," Peter laughed.

The boys laughed and so did some of the girls, but Lily could only see red when the Marauders were too close to her.

"C'mon, let's go," Lily turned on her heels dragging Dorcas and Mary with her. Emmeline and Marlene trotted behind.

"Good job, Wormy," Sirius laughed, "that was a slick joke."

"Do you honestly have to make her that mad?" Remus sighed.

"Lily was just being sensitive," James shrugged, "she doesn't like Pads too much."

"She doesn't like any of you," Remus said as he followed the girls' lead and walked out into the autumn air, "and when you work her up like that, she is the worst to be around! And I have a prefect meeting with her tonight."

"I thought those were like once a month things," Peter mumbled.

"The long ones are once a month, Pete, but I actually have a meeting every Saturday," Remus replied.

"But you're always with us most Saturdays," Sirius wondered, "how do you do both."

"I don't," he said shortly, "I usually skip them and have Lily brief me Sunday breakfast."

"Skip?" James laughed patting Remus on the back, "Remeey the Rebel!"

Remus rolled his eyes, "I'm not rebelling if they're not mandatory."

"Then why do you have to go tonight?" Peter asked.

"Lily wants me there. Something about Snape and Calder and a bunch of other over exaggerated scenes that runs through her mind on a daily basis," Remus laughed as they came up to the Main Street of Hogsmeade Village.

The boys laughed and James asked, "To Zonko's?"

"I actually have to see if Rosemerta will let me use her fireplace," Sirius sighed.

"Right, you have to meet your parents," James frowned but put a hand on his shoulder, "Good luck mate."

Sirius headed for the back door of the Three Broomsticks and the others went on down the street to Zonko's.

"The lovely, Rosemerta," Sirius winked as he took a seat on the bar stool, "how are you today?"

"What do you want, Handsome?" the bar owner said suspiciously.

Sirius sighed, "Can I use your personal fireplace? I need to go to my House, I promise I won't be long."

"Oh Black, you know I can get in trouble for this," Rosemerta said wearily.

"I know, but I really need to. I promise I'll only be an hour. None of the professors will find out," Sirius begged.

"Bloody hell," she cursed herself but nodded, "follow me."

She led him to a room upstairs. There was a small table, a dresser, a bed, and a fireplace. In a jar on top of the fireplace was Floo Powder. He turned to see Rosemerta walk back to the first floor.

He took a handful out of the jar and whispered, "12, Grimmauld Place."

…..

The girls took a table at the Dancing Dogs. They had successfully convinced Lily to join them though she was not happy about being there.

"We get a drink and we go," Lily ordered them, "I don't want all the good quills to run out."

"Oh yes!" Marlene laughed, "Because so many people go to buy quills on their ONE day out in the Wizard World."

"Well, I mean yes," Lily nodded, "I have to stock up every Hogsmeade trip because we never know when exactly we're coming back!"

"You can always borrow mine," Dori giggled.

And then a tall, older waitress came to them.

"Can I start you off with something to drink?"

"Oh, we're only having drinks," Lily smiled and the waitress rolled her eyes so Lily went on, "I'll take a Gillywater."

"Butterbeer," Marlene smiled.

"Pumpkin juice," Mary said sweetly and Dorcas added, "Make that two."

"Two Pumpkin juices," the waitress muttered, "and you?"

"A McSpratts would be nice," Emmeline said.

"Gillywater, Butterbeer, Two Pumpkin Juices, and a McSpratts, yeah?" the waitress snapped her gum at them, "I'll get it to you in a minute."

The waitress walked away and the girls looked at each other.

"Well, she didn't seem very nice," Mary commented.

"She's English, what do you expect?" Marlene laughed.

The girls looked at her with a glare, and Lily rose her eyebrows, "I'm sorry that accent of yours is starting to sound a bit British isn't it?"

"Sco'lant is Bray-ish, yeh feckin' twat," Marlene said in her rough Scottish accent that she usually slips out of when she is at Hogwarts.

The girls laughed, they loved when Marlene talked with a 'cool accent' because everyone else was from some part of England.

"You're right," Lily said.

"But not fae long!" Marlene stood up on the tables, "Free Sco'lant! Feck the Einglish!"

"Get down!" Mary said grabbing Marlene's feet, "You're going to get us kicked out!"

"Yeh hear theis? Eingand girl is tryna' keep meh quiet! Long live Sco'lant!" Marlene yelled but sat down in a fit of giggles.

"Is that how you talk when you're with your parents?" Lily said giving her a look.

"Fuck England?" Dori said, "Now that is a bit rude, especially because we are known for our great virgin pride."

The girls laughed and Marlene said talking in her normal Hogwarts dialect which was only slightly Scottish, "No, mum would have my ear if she ever heard me swear."

The waitress came back with their drinks and the girls sipped them gossiping.

"Boys!" Emmeline said as a pair of Hufflepuffs walked in the door.

Dori giggled and Marlene gave them all a smirk as she unbuttoned one of her buttons and flicked her hair off her shoulder.

"Merlin, must you be in slag mode?" Lily said as she shrunk awkwardly in her seat not wanting to be noticed by the boys.

But alas they came anyway.

"Looking beautiful, McKinnon," a boy said winking at Marlene, she batted her eyes.

"Are you guys here by yourselves?" Amos Diggory said.

"You could say that," Marlene flirted.

Amos smirked and then look at Lily, "Can you scoot over, Evans?"

"I—erm—yes, sure," Lily awkwardly scooted over closer to Mary.

The other two boys that accompanied Amos pulled up some chairs.

Marlene started up casual conversation as she flirted with the taller seventh year jock who didn't seem like he had much brains. The other boy seemed quite bored with himself though he made a few comments to Emmeline who didn't seem interested; he tried to move on to Dorcas but she sat too far away so he gave up. Amos tried to chat up Lily, but Lily was the most awkward human being ever in that moment. She could answer only 'yes' or 'no' and when it came to explaining she said 'erm' a bit too much.

Through the fireplace, Sirius transported to an airless state watching houses and streets zoom past his eyes. He tensed as his home became recognizable. Soon he was outside his front door but it took all his might to lift his hand to the knob. Slowly he pushed the door open and down the hall he could see his mother glaring at him from the table.

Walburga was not an ugly woman, her long black hair tied elegantly at the top of her head. She was as fair skinned as Sirius, maybe more so. She wore a long green dress and a black robe over top it. Her eyes were not the grey Sirius had, but a brown so dark they could be called black. Her eye brows were always arched high as if she was disgusted by you. She carried herself with the grace of a Pureblood, looking down at those who seemed unworthy.

"Come in and sit, Sirius," Walburga said raising her head and gesturing to the seat across from her, "Regulus will be here shortly."

As she said it, Regulus apparated in with their father holding on to his shoulder.

"Sirius, Walburga," Orion nodded as he sat down at the head of the table.

Regulus took a seat beside Sirius breathing nervously as he fumbled with his hands. Sirius though frightened seemed calm and confident on the outside.

"You've been ordered here by your mother on orders of the Dark Lord," Orion said leaning forward.

"For Merlin's sake, is this another Death Eater thing?" Sirius said annoyed, "For the last time, father, I don't believe the same—"

"Silence!" Orion yelled over top of Sirius, "This is not a request, Sirius! He is ordering you!"

"He wants you to take up your duties as a pureblood," Walburga said sharply.

"And what exactly do those duties entail?" Sirius leaned in towards his mother ready to argue with her.

"Simply, that as a pureblood, it is your duties to delete all the impurities in our world," she smiled.

"Delete impurities? Mother," Sirius laughed at his mother, "muggle borns are not impure! They have just as much magic as—"

"It is stolen magic!" Walburga hollered

"Mother! Are you kidd—"

"WE WILL NOT LOSE TIME OVER YOUR PETTY ARGUMENTS!" Orion yelled, "SIRIUS! The Dark Lord is ordering you to take up your oath as a death eater and Regulus will do the same!"

Sirius shook his head as his mother continued, "He will let you finish your schooling only to advance your minds, but he wants to know where your beliefs lie."

"They are with the Muggle borns," Sirius snarled.

Walburga reached across the table and slapped her son hard across the face, "You will join him!"

"Or what, Mother?" Sirius smiled though his eyes were full of fury.

Her eyes darkened and her lips curled, "Orion, show them what happens to those who defy the Dark Lord."
