Chapter 5

Day 31

Kurt opened his eyes and closed them again almost immediately. Why on earth was Blaine lying next to him naked? He wracked his mind for a reason, and when the memory came it struck him like a bolt of lightning. He had sex with Blaine last night, and it had been one of the most incredibly poignant moments of his life.

Despite how amazing it had been in the brightness of a new day, Kurt really felt at a loss. What was going to happen with his friendship with Blaine? It would surely make things awkward now, and they weren't blessed with the ability to talk to anyone else about it. They were alone and vulnerable and it had obviously been a mistake, albeit a pretty amazing one.

Without waking up Blaine, he slid away and dressed quickly, and walked out of the cave. Signs of the storm were everywhere from ripped up plants and trees to the mud and water puddles left over from the downpour the night before. He swatted at a few mosquitoes and quickly made his way to the beach. Kurt found the spot where he and Blaine's shelter had been only to find it completely obliterated. It was a good thing they had found the cave for shelter the night before.

Kurt knew that he needed to work on building a shelter, catching some fish or a number of other tasks but instead he just stood at the edge of beach, feeling the gentle waves lap at his feet. He kept thinking about Blaine and what had occurred the night before and he felt incredibly confused. Sure they were two young gay men who were stuck together on a deserted island in the Pacific, but did that mean it was inevitable that they would sleep together? Was it a onetime thing or did they feel something more for each other?

There was one thing Kurt knew for sure and that was that he didn't want to lose Blaine as a friend. They had really bonded over the last month, and Kurt could see them still being friends outside the island. He figured that he would just as soon take Blaine's lead and go from there.

"Kurt?"

Kurt gasped and turned around to see Blaine standing right behind him, thankfully dressed now.

"Good morning," Kurt whispered, suddenly feeling very awkward.

Blaine smiled and walked closer to him. "Beautiful day," he said looking up at the clear blue sky.

"It is," Kurt replied, suddenly feeling a twinge of disappointment.

"We need to build a new shelter," Blaine said. "And get something to eat."

Kurt smiled, but it didn't reach his eyes. "I'll fish, you build."

An couple of hours later they were sitting under a newly built bamboo and palm shelter that Blaine had constructed and were eating the fish that Kurt had caught.

"I think we need to talk," Blaine told him between bites.

"About?" Kurt asked, not wanting to jump to conclusions.

"I think you know what," Blaine said, giving him a look that made Kurt shiver in a way that had nothing to do with cold.

"About us sleeping together," Kurt said.

"About sleeping together, right," Blaine agreed.

"I think we were both really impulsive," Kurt started carefully.

"That was part of it," Blaine said. "We were scared, lonely, and stuck in a God forsaken cave overnight and it is certainly not something that hasn't been in some romantic novel somewhere."

"But," Kurt pressed.

"But Kurt I-," Blaine started to say and then his entire face went pale.

"What is it? What's wrong?" Kurt asked, looking at him nervously.

Blaine pointed, and Kurt turned his head to look towards the ocean and towards the boat coming their way. A boat.

"Blaine," Kurt gasped. "We're saved!"

And before Kurt could say anything else, Blaine's lips were on his in a passionate kiss.

2 Months Later

Kurt opened the door of his apartment and walked inside for the first time in over a month. It felt bizarre to be amidst the luxury of his penthouse in New York after living under a bamboo hut for the past month. Ever since he and Blaine were picked up by that fishing boat, their story had made headlines nationwide. Normally the story wouldn't be so big, but with them both being high profile celebrities, it was all anyone could talk about.

It had been hard getting used to civilization again, and just going to the grocery store was enough to completely overwhelm Kurt. It was hard to once again be around so many people when not that long ago he was almost entirely alone. It was difficult to get back to work, it was difficult to get used to the cold New York weather, and it was difficult to talk about his experience on the island.

Ever since he and Blaine were rescued, they had hardly spoken. Getting on the boat and the subsequent plane ride home had been a challenge after their bad memories of the plane crash and they had clung to one another the whole way. When they disembarked the plane to a swarm of paparazzi, that was the last time Kurt saw Blaine. They didn't think to share numbers and they didn't really talk about keeping in touch so nothing happened and things between them were oddly silent after having only each other to talk to.

It had been amazing to get in touch with his family and friends again, especially his Dad. Burt had been very emotional when he saw his son at the airport that day and Kurt couldn't help but start to cry while in his father's arms. That was the exact first moment when he actually felt like he was home again. Since then Kurt had been trying to get back into his normal routine but found that it was difficult to depend on prepackaged grocery store food when he had been fishing for his supper in the Pacific not too long ago.

As time passed, Kurt found that he slowly started to get used to living a normal life again. His new line of men's clothes came out soon to high praise. He adjusted well to living his old life, the life he once wanted a break from. And now there was something missing and he knew that he had been changed forever by the experience on the island. The truth was that Kurt didn't think he would ever be the same again.

That night Kurt was at a party slowly sipping a cocktail in an attempt to fight boredom. He was dressed to the nines in one of his own designer suits and his hair was expertly styled. He often got invited to one of these parties that was pretty much just VIPs networking and schmoozing to try to get ahead. There was a time when Kurt was a social butterfly and loved these kind of parties, but lately they just bored him to tears.

"Long time, no see."

Kurt looked up stunned, the voice was one he would remember by heart. Blaine was standing there looking extremely handsome and clean shaven which was a change after seeing him with the starts of a beard on the island. He cleaned up very nicely Kurt had to admit, and he felt the stirrings of the attraction he had always felt for him. It didn't help that he also remembered the night of the storm vividly.

"Yes it has," Kurt smiled. "Have you gotten used to living in civilization again?"

"For the most part," Blaine said, laughing. "How about you?"

"I've been good, it is just different," Kurt admitted.

"I know what you mean," Blaine said with a sigh. "Everyone has been asking me about what happened on the island."

"Me too," Kurt said. "I don't want to tell them anything, I'm trying to forget it."

As soon as Kurt said it, he knew he had made a mistake because Blaine frowned slightly and nodded. "Right, I'm trying to forget it too," he said quickly, turning to leave. "I have to go."

Kurt watched mutely as Blaine left and then he felt a strange emotion he wasn't used to. It was telling him that he didn't want to let Blaine get away, it was telling him to follow his heart instead of his mind for a change.

"Blaine!" Kurt called walking up to him. Blaine turned and looked at him, a hopeful glimmer in those soulful eyes. And then Kurt wrapped his arms around Blaine in a tight hug.

"You are the one thing from the island that I never want to forget," he whispered pressing his lips to Blaine's in a gentle kiss that swiftly grew deeper.

After a long minute Kurt pulled away and smiled. "Getting in a plane crash and being marooned on a deserted island was the scariest, hardest experience of my entire life," he said softly. "But meeting you, yes falling in love with you made it all worth it."

Big tears fell from Blaine's eyes but he pulled Kurt into another breathless kiss. "Kurt, I love you too," he whispered. "I was in love with you from the moment we met and it has been torture not seeing you every day."

"I think this is the start of a beautiful relationship," Kurt said smiling.

"No," Blaine replied looking at him fondly. "It's the continuation of an incredible love story."
