A/N: Updated as of 1/21/2014. Apologies in advance because I didn't know that Lucius and The Black sisters had already graduated before the marauders era… but I left them in because I felt like it so… sorry for inaccuracy.

Y6: The Unforgettables
A breeze hit her face as she walked about a small garden. It was early morning and the sun had just peaked out. Leaves of bushes moved with her as she took another slow step forward. She clung to the young woman at her side who helped her along the stony path. She could see roses but it was the breeze she loved most. It was what first greeted her when she took her step towards freedom.
"What is your name?" the girl in a nurse's outfit said to her.
Cara looked at her trying to remember the question.
"What is your name?" the girl repeated.
Name, what was a name? Wait, what was the question.
The nurse sighed and called out, "Ollaferus, I think it's time to go in."
Ollaferus, a tree more than a man, walked over as he helped the young nurse to take Cara back in. When they got in to her room, they came face to face with the great wizard Albus Dumbledore. He sat in a chair by her bed but stood when they entered. He smiled and nodded to both of them. They set her in her bed and Ollaferus left Dumbledore to speak with the nurse.
"Elinora," Albus Dumbledore smiled sitting back down to his seat, "how has she been the last few days?"
The nurse, Elinora, looked away saddened, "She doesn't respond. I know she's thinking, I can tell. She just can't understand."
He let out a breath, "Well, it's only been six days. Perhaps, in time—"
Elinora shook her head, "No, Professor, I fear the brain damage is too much. Our potions aren't strong enough, we should've seen results two days ago. Professor, she can't even tell me her name. I don't think we'll ever find out who did this to her."
He nodded and stayed silent thinking.
Elinora continued, "We've never dealt with someone who had this much torture done to them. I can't even find any records in the Grindelwald days,"—Dumbledore fidgeted—"Professor, I can watch her and care for her. I've tested her with every potion, I can think of- what anyone in this hospital could think of- I just don't think she'll ever return to who she was. I'm sorry."
Elinora waited for a response but the Professor was silent. She took it as a sign to go and so she muttered a good bye and walked out of the room.
Cara squinted up at the ceiling, thinking. And Albus looked at Cara with a deep sadness.
"Miss Connors—Cara—I can't believe that this is true," he sighed shaking his head, "I'm sorry, I'm so sorry—You get better, you—You just remember."
He stood to leave patting her head as he walked away.
"Sirius," she whispered.
Dumbledore turned frowning, "Sirius."
He put his hand on the door wishing with all his might that she would just remember. He needs her to remember who did this. He needs to stop this now. It's his fault, he brought Tom here. He taught him. He needs to end it before anyone else gets hurt.
He turned the knob and slowly stepped out.
"Cara," she whispered.
He froze outside the door; that was not a Sirius she muttered. Could it—he looked back in.
She was smiling now nodding her head to the ceiling, "Cara."
He looked at her amazed. How did she do it? How could she-, "Cara?" he said to her.
She looked at him in the doorway and smiled nodding.
She remembered. She will remember. He needs her. He can use her to end it all. She has to come back to Hogwarts. It's safe and close to him. She can stay in the Hospital Wing. She can remember there. He needs her there.
Yes, she will go back to Hogwarts.
….
It was Friday night past curfew, Lily walked about the castle on prefect duty. Remus was still recovering from 'his furry problem' the other night. He'd be out all week because Pompfrey wouldn't approve of the strengthening potion St. Mungo's had given him.
Friday nights were one of the worst nights for the castle; only second to Saturday nights. Because it was a week end, curfew was pushed back until midnight. By then, everyone was expected to be back in their Common Room where they could make all the noise they wanted.
Lily had just cleared out all the towers, where she caught numerous couples 'frolicking' about. At that point, she was annoyed and tired and wanted to go back to bed. But she still had to clear most of the classroom and the corridors by the dungeons.
"To your Common Room," Lily said to a fourth year Ravenclaw girl who was messing about with Benjy Fenwick, a seventh year Gryffindor.
The girl squeaked as she quickly buttoned her shirt back up. Benjy left his open as he strutted towards Lily with a smirk.
"Five from Ravenclaw, ten from Gryffindor. Honestly, Fenwick," Lily gagged, "try finding someone closer to your age."
He chuckled looking playfully at Lily; she glared him down and he went off with a laugh.
When Lily finished the class rooms, she headed for the dungeons. The dungeons were the worst for her. They were always filled with Slytherins who enjoyed teasing Lily. She held her wand ready in her hand. She had never needed it before but she doesn't like taking chances with Slytherins.
"Clear out," Lily hollered to second year boys playing a game of Snaps on the floor, "Five points off for each of you."
They did as she said with attitude but didn't give her much trouble. The boys had run off telling others that they were being pushed back in to the Common Room so Lily didn't see many others in the corridors. Just as she was about to turn around she heard voices coming down the hall.
She turned the corner and found Tobias Fiddler, Lucius Malfoy, Bellatrix Black, Narcissa Black, and Severus Snape. They were on the floor talking quietly.
Lily strained to listen, but the words were too quiet. She decided to shoo the off.
"Twenty five points from Slytherin," Lily hollered and the crowd jumped, "Get to your Common Room or I'll take more."
Bellatrix was about to say something but Lucius grabbed her, "To the Common Room."
Bellatrix shook him off, "You don't order me around."
He rose his head and looked down at her. Bellatrix would've gotten in his face if Narcissa hadn't grabbed her hand pulling her along. Severus was about to follow when Lucius's voice stopped him.
He was cold and smooth, "What do you want, Mudblood?"
Severus twitched at the word but didn't do anything. Lily forgot he was even there as she threatened, "Don't you ever call me that."
"Or what?" Lucius smirked and Tobias laughed.
Lily held her wand out ignoring the question, "Go back to your Common Room, Malfoy."
Tobias reached for his wand and Lily turned to him giving Lucius an opportunity to grab his own.
"Expelliarmus!" Lily cried to Tobias but before she could catch his, Lucius had zapped Lily's wand out of her own hand.
She had no weapon now. She looked at Lucius and then Tobias ignoring Severus completely.
"Scared now, Mudblood?" Lucius teased.
Lily took a deep breath panicking but calmly said, "Scared of a prat like you? Never."
Lucius began to mutter a spell and Lily turned the corner running down the corridor. She covered her head as she saw spells fly over her head. She did this stupid zigzag move hoping to throw them off, but a spell nicked her arm and she tumbled forward.
She was getting back up when another spell hit her and she fell flat to the ground unable to move; a binding curse. The three ran to where she laid and stopped.
Lucius trying to catch his breath, "Did you honestly think you could get away without your wand?"
"That's the problem with Mudbloods," Tobias laughed, "They don't even deserve magic!"
Lily couldn't respond and Lucius laughed as he watched her eyes dart about, "What now, boys?"
Lucius bent down pointing his wand in her face holding out her own wand in front of her. He poked his wand into her cheek and thought of the spell that would cut it. A small scratch trailed his wand as droplets of blood slid out. He then dug his wand in to her neck just to get hype from the panic in her eyes.
The truth is Lucius Malfoy wouldn't have hurt her too badly, but James Potter wouldn't have cared.
"Flipendo!" James yelled running down the corridor and Lucius flew down the hall. Tobias turned but James yelled, "Expelliarmus!"
Severus hit him with his "Flipendo!" and James crashed in to the wall.
James yell echoed down the hall, "Expelliarmus!"
Severus' wand flew to James and James snatched it. He now held both Severus' and Tobias'. He looked down at Lucius who struggled to stand up. James had his wand pointed at him as he ran over to Lily.
"Relashio," he said and Lily sat up, "pull out your wand."
"He has it," Lily muttered angrily.
James sighed deeply, "Honestly, Evans."
Lucius was on his feet and had his own wand out, he fired something at them but James threw up a shield that blasted it back at him. Lucius fell to the floor again and James ran to him.
"Expelliarmus," James said taking Lucius' and Lily's wand. Lily took her wand back and pointed it at Lucius who was rolling in pain.
"The Headmaster will hear about this," Lily said to Lucius.
Lucius rolled his eyes as he tried to sit up.
"Stay down!" James yelled taking a step closer to him.
"Give me my wand, Potter," Lucius said sitting up.
James lunged at him pushing him back to the ground with his wand at Lucius' neck, "I said stay down."
Malfoy glared at James breathing heavily but didn't dare move.
Lily looked at James, "Let's go, Potter."
James reluctantly got off Malfoy keep his wand pointed at him. They ran up the next three floors at a sprint and James only slowed down when he saw Lily fall behind.
"What were you doing down there?!" James rounded on her.
Lily looked surprised then furious, "I'M A PREFECT, POTTER, WHAT DO YOU THINK?"
"Why would you go down there by yourself?" James hollered in her face.
She shoved him away but he bounced right back, "Because my partner is sick!"
"Well then you get a new one! Or you just don't go down there!"
"I've done it before, you bloody prick!"
"Then you're dumber than I thought!"
Lily glared at him shoving him. They both drew their wands.
"Why were you down there, Potter?!"
"None of your business!"
"I'm a prefect it is my business!"
"You're an idiot who almost got yourself killed down there!"
"Killed? THIS IS HOGWARTS!"
"And that was Lucius Malfoy!"
"I know who it was Potter!"
"Then you know that there's a war going on and that the other side has no problem hurting sixteen year old girls! Or did you forget?" James said painfully and lowered his wand.
Lily lowered hers looking away from him. He let out a breath of annoyance and turned down the corridor. Lily hesitated before walking after him.
They walked in silence. James had his jaw clenched as he took long powerful strides while Lily looked shook up and let down. When they got to their Common Room, only two or three couples were up. They didn't glance at James and Lily.
James ran up the steps slamming his door and Lily shook at the sound of it. She let out a long breath and slowly walked up to her dormitory. The girls were all in bed as it was pushing towards two in the morning. Lily set herself down on her bed and curled into a ball. She shivered as she thought of what James said.
They are at war. And the Death Eaters have no problem torturing kids. Wasn't Cara proof of that?
Lily shuttered thinking of Cara.
"Or did you forget?" James had said.
Of course she hadn't. How could she forget what happened to her best friend?
Lily fell asleep that night with puffy eyes, a burning throat, and a cut on her cheek that she kept touching to remind herself that she was lucky this time.
