Vacation in Love
Chapter 2
It had been two day since the group arrived at the log cabin. The group had gone out exploring and today the boys were going to go get the Christmas tree.
"Tony, Tim wake up get warm clothes on!" Shouted Gibbs from the bottom of the stairs. He was going to take them out to find the perfect tree to place in the living room. He knew that Abby wanted the biggest one they could find and Ziva just wanted to celebrate the season with family. So he was dead set on finding the ONE.
"Tony, Tim if i have to come up there my self and throw you out of bed I will!"
As Gibbs went to take a quick sip of his coffee and started up the stairs, Tony and Tim both slowly came out of their shared room. Groggily they walked by Gibbs and down the stairs.
"Boss we are on vacation, why are you waking us up so early?" Tim asked, as he rubbed his eyes.
"We are going out for a christmas tree. Now hurry up eat some breakfast and meet me in the shed."
Gibbs was surprised as he walked out of the kitchen and down the hall to the front door, standing in front of the door with his coat in her hands was Jen smiling.
"Hey you never said good morning to me" Jen said in mock anger.
"You were sleeping" Gibbs mumbled against her lips as they kissed.
Jen helped Gibbs put his coat on and made sure that Tony and Tim were all dressed for the cold as she held to door open to wave them goodbye. The boys all made it to the shed and Gibbs opened it up.
"Whoa! We gonna go get a tree with these?" Tony said pointing to two snow mobiles.
"Yup you and Tim are sharing this one" Gibbs said pointing to the big black and red one. "I will take the smaller one and the tools for cutting a tree down and bringing it home"
After a short argument Tony would drive and Tim would help spot the perfect tree. Once Gibbs had shut the shed door, they were off into the forest along side the lake to find the perfect tree.
It was 9 o'clock in the morning when Ziva and Abby woke up. They both got up and dressed and raced to wake up the boys. As they opened the boys door, they noticed it was empty.
"Where are they?" Ziva asked shocked to not find Tony snoring loudly in his bed.
Abby shrugged and ran down the hall to the stairs. Ziva and Abby raced in to the kitchen to only find Ducky and Jen, each sipping on some coffee.
"Good morning" Ducky said.
"Morning girls, sleep ok?" Jen asked always being like a mother to the girls.
"Slept fine where are the boys" Abby asked as she took a spoonful of oatmeal.
"Gone went out with Gibbs early this morning, won't be back til later" Jen stated as she folded the newspaper she was "reading".
"Ok so if the boys are out doing something then what should we do?" Ziva asked as she sipped her coffee.
"We should start decorating for christmas and baking cookies." Abby bounced around in her seat.
Jen smiled and laughed as the over excited bubbly goth began explaining to Ziva and Ducky of all her old traditions she wants to start again. Jen loved being here with her family, she would love it more once they were all safe in the cabin out of the cold winter but she knew in order to have christmas you must have a tree.
After an hour Gibbs and the boys rode into a clearing where there stood only a single tree. It was about 8 and 1/2 feet tall and was very full. As Gibbs began pulling out the axes they were going to use Tony and Tim circled the tree in amazement. It was as if this was the tree that everyone is looking for, tall and full no empty bare spots it was absolutely gorgeous. Tim turned to see Gibbs walking towards them with 2 axes.
"Uh boss, how are we going to get this home?" Tim asked as he watched Gibbs begin to swing the axe twords the bottom of the tree.
"Use the rope in the bag and drag it home" Gibbs huffed as he took another swing at the tree.
Tony picked up the other axe and began to help Gibbs with the tree. Tim stood back and watched as the beautiful tree came crashing to earth with a great loud CRASH!
After taking a minute breather Gibbs rubbed his brow to get the sweat of his forehead he walked back to his snowmobile and pulled a rope from it. He threw it to Tim, "Tie it so it won't come undone until we get home."
"Sure thing boss but why not Tony?" Tim asked
"You are the boy scout and knot tying is in your blood" Gibbs stated.
Tim smiled at the compliment coming from his boss and began tying the rope up and around the large trunk. He then took the other end and attached it to his and Tony's snowmobile.
"Great work McDork" Tony said as he slapped Tim on the back.
"Hey don't call me that" Tim stated, but before Tony could retort Time threw a snow ball at hime and hit him square in the chest.
"Hey get back here" Tony laughed as he chased Tim around whirling snowballs at him. Gibbs smiled as he watched them throw snowballs at each other. He missed is girls, Shannon and Kelly but he knew he could never bring them back. But now he has a new family, a family that may be dysfunctional but it was a family willing to fight for each other.
"Ok boys its getting colder and snow is starting to fall harder, lets head home" Gibbs shouted as he climbed on to the big snowmobile and revved it up.
Tony and TIm came running back laughing, they were a little confused as why Gibbs was on the one the rode in but it was to cold to care. Once everyone was all situated and another fight over who drove they were off. Gibbs took the lead as Tim followed, with Tony behind him pouting. After twenty minutes Gibbs noticed that they were not even close to where they were supposed to be. It took forty minutes to get to the cabin from where they were and at about halfway they always past a cross where a church group once was held. However they didn't see it and to top of the problem it was getting dark.
"Boss shouldn't we be at the cross by now?" Tony asked as Tim pulled up to Gibbs.
"Ya we should be. Tim you got a gps?"
"Sorry boss I don't" Tim replied
Gibbs took out the back pack and tossed Tim and Tony a snack bar, "eat up may be latter before we get home."
Tim and Tony exchanged glances and began snacking on the bar. Gibbs took off once again with Tim following right behind.
"Where are you Jethro?" Jen asked as she stood at the front door looking out into the snow. It was getting late and she was begging to worry. She packed them all food but the clothes they were wearing were not enough to keep them warm if it got worse.
"Jennifer, is everything ok?" Ducky asked as he came up behind her.
"I don't know Ducky the boys should have been back by now."
"Jethro won't let you or the family down, he will protect the boys. He knows the tree is important and probably just wanted to get the perfect one. Give him time my dear. He will be home soon."
With that Ducky walked away letting Jen think. She sighed once more and closed the door, she needed to keep up the spirits for the girls.
"Jen the cookies are ready to decorate would you like to come join us?" Abby asked
"Sure Abbs I will"
So in the kitchen Ziva, Abby, Jen and Ducky decorated the mountains of cookies Ducky had whipped up. Ziva and Abby were very much into decorating cookies while Ducky cleaned up. Jen decorated but every few minutes she would glance out the window and then at the clock.
"Boss the snow is getting worse" Tony shouted from behind Tim as the sped across the land covered in a foot of snow.
Gibbs was worried it was now about sunset and the temperature was dropping, fast. He needed to find that cross and then get everyone safely home. For the first time in a very long time he prayed, God please help me, help me get Tony and Tim home safely. Guide us as we try and get home. Also give Jen some peace of mind. Amen
Gibbs stopped waited for Tim to catch up and he looked around. Tim and Tony were visibly shaking from the cold and Gibbs knew they needed to find some warmth. Gibbs wiped off his snow-goggles and placed them back on. He looked around and he saw it, in the distance was the cross. Once they made it there they would make it home.
The cookies were all decorated except for a small batch that would be decorated by the boys once they got home. Ziva and Abby noticed that the boys were still not home and they began to worry asking many questions and looking out the window. Suddenly as Jen was sitting down on the couch in front of the fireplace as she glanced at the clock for the millionth time she got this calming peace about her, she knew the boys were safe and would be home safely. Ducky noticed Jen relax and he knew that she was confident that the boys would be home soon.
After about another thirty minutes of a silent house, they all heard the hummm of two snowmobiles pull up to the house. Abby and Ziva ran to the door and flung it open to see Tony and Tim jump off their snowmobile. Abby ran towards Tim and hugged him just as Ziva and Tony were. Gibbs laughed and smiled as he saw his two girls come up and hug the boys. He stepped off the snowmobile and looked up at the door where Jen stood with tears in her eyes and a smile on her face. He untied the tree and Tim, Tony and Gibbs carried the tree inside. They place the large tree in the front living room, in front of the big windows that over looked the back yard and lake. Tony and Tim quickly threw there coats off and went and stood in front of the fireplace warming up. Ziva and ABby both brought them cups of hot cocoa and pulled them to sit down. Ziva rested her head on Tony and Abby's on Tim's.
After the boys ate dinner which was potato soup, made by Abby they all began decorating the tree. Well almost all of them. Gibbs was sitting in the big wing tipped chair that Ducky usually occupies, he was drinking coffee and enjoying the excitement everyone got from decorating.
"Ok so its done!" Abby bounced around as she looked at the tree. It truly was the perfect tree.
"Abby it isn't finished yet"Jenny stated, "look the tree topper is not up there"
Gibbs knew that Abby would want him to put it up so he had already got out the big ladder so he can put it up if and when someone asked him to.
"Gibbs Gibbs Gibbs you have to put Santa up on top" Abby bounced over to him
Gibbs sighed and lifted himself up out of the chair, he took the topper and began to climb the ladder. He looked down and right into the eyes of Jen, "Good?" he questioned.
"Perfect" Jen winked up at him.
Carefully he climbed back down and wrapped his arms around Jen's waist and Abby's shoulder. Ducky sat down at the baby grand piano and began playing christmas carols. Everyone joined in and they all stood there singing and laughing.
