Chapter 3
Thalia's POV
I had been begging for a break for about an hour. After last night Chiron told me that he would send our best demigods to bring back the fleece. It wasn't much comfort but it was all I had. We immediately had to work on an antidote for me since the stupid shackles were getting annoying. That was a huge disappointment because we had to work all night. After being fed up of my whining, cranky and tired Chiron finally gave me a break. I came outside to find Nico on the floor of the porch of the Big House with his eyes closed and slightly snoring. It was kind of cold for a summer night but Nico was sleeping in a t-shirt and jeans. I decided to wake him up and be subtle about it.
"HEY! DEATH BREATH! WAKE UP!" I yelled.
"AHH!" He was so startled he rolled over and crashed into one of the chairs. "Oomph!"
I tried so hard not to laugh.
"What are you doing here?" I asked.
"I could ask the same thing." He replied with a slight smirk.
Damn, I thought, he got me there.
"Chiron and I were working on an antidote and I got fed up, your turn"
"I felt sort of uneasy, so I decided to camp out here" He shrugged like it was no big deal but to me it was.
Living on my own for a while there isn't a lot of people who actually genuinely care about me. I didn't want to overwhelm Nico so I let it go.
"Alright, can I join you? I'm really tired." I asked.
"Sure." He patted at the floor next to him.
I sat down next to him hip to hip and helped him up in a sitting position.
"So, when are you going to set out to rescue the fleece?" he asked bluntly.
"How did you know about that?!" I asked him feeling suspicious.
"Please! Everybody knows it's gone. So are you going to answer me?" He shot me a pointed look.
"No." I replied in all honesty.
I had no idea who did this let alone how I was going to stop them. But also I felt …. I don't know, uncomfortable with this whole situation. Like someone stripped me from something I rightfully deserved. Usually my first response would be to fight but how do you fight an opponent that knows more about you than you know about them?
Nico just laughed a sad, sarcastic laugh like I offended him and closed his eyes. I did too. I was tired, bitter and I desperately needed the rest. I let the sleep takeover and just when I was falling asleep I felt my head slip and rest on Nico's shoulder. He didn't move or flinch but instead rested his chin on my head. I just smiled and fell asleep.
Nico's POV
I smiled. Thalia was snoring softly meanwhile I was wide awake. For as long as I'd known Thalia, I knew that she wasn't the type of girl to trust people let alone sleep on a guy's shoulders. I felt a little disappointed when she wouldn't share what was going on with her but here she was with me right now and that made my mind go blank. The only thing that I could literally do is smile. I don't know how long we stayed like that and suddenly I saw Annabeth and Percy coming towards the big house in a rush. Poor Percy was panting like a dog trying to keep up with Annabeth. They were running and they had something in their hands. When they came up to the front steps Annabeth started to explain but the thing about Annabeth is that when she knows something really important, you don't have to ask her what it is. She'll tell you.
"NICO! We have a suspect on who stole the fleece! ERIS! She's the goddess of discord. AND SHE"S TECHNICALLY THALIA'S EVIL SISTER!" She practically yelled in my face.
"Ok?" I asked a bit confused.
"UGGH!" she yelled frustrated.
Then muttered something in Greek about stupid boys, miscommunication and said not so flattering things towards sons of hades.
Percy slightly grabbed her shoulders but stayed out of close range in case Annabeth judo flipped him. We really didn't need a repeat of the last capture the flag game.
Anyway Thalia was still snoring which is sort of amazing since usually one of Annabeth's rage moments could wake up half the camp but whatever. The only way Annabeth would kill somebody is… ugh I don't even want to think about it.
"So, this goddess, Eris. She's the one who stole the fleece? But why?" I asked.
"Because, her domain is discord and darkness. Her territory is Seattle which is gloomy and depressing on its own but whatever. Now she's planning world domination. We have to stop her. With the fleece she can make whatever land as rich as the holder imagines it and if the goddess of discord rules the world..."
"Five words, We. Are. In. Major. Trouble" He finished.
Annabeth nodded.
"Oh, alright then tell Chiron. We have to set out to rescue the fleece. For Thalia's sake." I said.
"You coming?" Percy asked.
I pointed at Thalia and raised my eyebrows. He shrugged and went in.
Thalia's POV
Nico nudged me gently and woke me up. Annabeth and Percy briefed me in on the situations and how they were getting ready to go on a quest. I was really thankful and everything but seriously, I had to just sit there and wait to be rescued by Percy, Annabeth and Nico. Oh wait, I forgot one part about this supertastic summer, I have to do all of this in FREAKING SHACKLES! So when the quest group set out, I waved at them from the Big House and put on a fake smile. I vowed then and there that first chance I get, I was joining them.
Annabeth's POV
It had been six hours approximately. Since we had to immediately bring back the fleece we ultimately boarded an airplane. I was fine with it. So was Nico. But, Percy? Well, he was a totally different story. He was ghost pale, clutching the seats till the fabric actually tore and he sweated like crazy even though he felt cold. I held his hand and through gritted teeth he smiled at me. He was scared to death and I felt bad so I put on a movie for him. After six hours, and 40 minutes we finally landed in Seattle. Home to Eris the goddess of discord and chaos. We waited in line inside the plane as the three of us took out our bags. Just one bag for each of us. As the plane unloaded I felt a harsh cold wind. It wasn't that cold but it had a feel of chaos.
As we stepped into the airport I found the fresh and not stuffed air quite refreshing. Once we had everything figured out we went outside the airport where all the taxis waited. We called one and loaded in. We asked him where the nearest hotel was and to take us there. As we were pulling up to the driveway, the hotel came into full view. It was a bit broken down and looked like those hotels from the 90's. I liked it. As I jumped off the taxi Percy came out too. Nico was paying for the taxi ride and Percy put his arms around me. The hotel had a neon sign and one of the letters didn't light up. I turned a bit and saw that there was a small fountain. It stuck out. In this 90's themed hotel was a Greek themed fountain with a women and an apple. The woman was about the age of 20 and she had long curly but straight hair. The sculpture was in that form like the ones you see at museums and she was holding an apple like she was about to throw it. She looked angry and sad. And for just a second she seemed to look at me and glare.
I quickly told Percy and Nico to hurry up. I wasn't gonna stand near some creepy lady statue all day. We carried our bags in. The hotel wasn't much different inside. I came up to the recipient at the front desk.
"Three rooms please. And you can put the charge on this credit card." I said confidently as I handed her the "quest credit card".
"I'm sorry ma'am, but we only have one room empty. It's been a long night so, I'm afraid this is all you're going to get." She said.
I frowned and said, "Fine, we're lucky enough to have one room."
"Alright, here are the keys to your room, have a nice stay!" She with a perky smile as if that made everything better.
As we entered the room, Nico's exact words were,
"So, you two can take the floor I'll take the bed!" Gods, He was annoying.
Thalia's POV
I was in my little alcove. Thank the gods that my shackles let me stay inside the camp. At least I didn't have to be near the tree 24/7. Just then I heard a knocking at the door. It wasn't just a knocking. Someone was yelling. I opened the door to find the two Stoll brothers and they were yelling. All I heard was "POTION" "CHIRON" "TEMPORARY" and I was off to the big house. As I reached the big house I saw a bunch of other campers all crowded.
"Thalia! I have the antidote ready" Chiron said in a hurry.
I snatched from his palm and was about to wolf it down when I suddenly thought better of it.
"Chiron, what exactly is in this thing?"
He started sweating "Oh, umm you know ambrosia, nectar, millet seeds, potatoes, and just some… Fury toenails?" He told me.
"WHAT? I am not going to eat this!" I said.
"Just do it Thalia!" he snapped.
I gulped and looked at the disgusting mush. It was black and goopy. I swallowed it as it wriggled down my throat. Suddenly a bright light flashed and my shackles came off. Thunder rumbled and I flexed my wrist, I felt free LIKE THE WIND! I jumped up and down squealing. I screamed in Chiron's face that I was going to the quest to join Annabeth, Nico and Percy. I immediately started packing and soon I was off to Seattle.
