Secrets
Chapter 2: The Truth

Riku had dropped us off at Sora's house and went on his way to meet up with Organization XIII. He wasn't a member of the gang, but he sure did spend a lot of time with them. I guess it made sense, though, since a lot of them were closer to his age and had graduated college with him. But they sure didn't have a good reputation around town.

I looked over at Sora. He was getting a video game set up for us to play. I thought about bringing up Riku and him, but figured it was a bit too soon.

"So, Riku hangs out with a lot of the Organization XIII members, right?" Sora nodded and handed me a controller.

"Yeah, but I wish he wouldn't. A lot of them are into drugs and stuff, y'know?" He took a seat beside of me on the bed and started scrolling through the available cars to choose from.

"Do you know any of them personally?" He looked behind him at his nightstand and leaned across the bed, grabbing a framed picture and handing it to me.

"A few of them, yeah. That's a picture of me, Riku, Axel, Demyx, Zexion and Larxene." He looked at the picture in my hand and smiled. "All of them are pretty cool. Axel can get a little crazy, but he's alright." He pointed to a tall, skinny guy with fire- engine red hair and glowing emerald eyes. "That's him there."

"I think I've seen Axel with Riku a time or two. He seems cool. I didn't know you hung out with them." I got up and put the picture back where it belonged and grabbed a drink out of the mini fridge across the room.

"Not often, but Riku likes them a lot, so any friend of his is a friend of mine!"

"Yeah, I hear ya." I sat back down beside of him and sat my drink down on the floor before grabbing the controller and choosing a car to race with. "What about Marluxia? Do you know much about him?"

"Marluxia? Sure, I've met him before. He hangs out with the other members more, though. Riku knows him pretty well, actually. Why do you ask?" Sore glanced over at me before starting the race.

"That's who I found making out with Naminé today."

"What? Are you serious?" Sora dropped his controller and turned to face me. "Wait, you're telling me that SHE'S Blondie? I had no idea! God, Roxas... he's been with her for months!"

"What? Blondie? Wait a minute, Sora..." I paused the game and looked at him. "Months?"

"Yeah... he's been bragging about some girl named Blondie for about three or four months now. I don't think he brings her around the gang, though, so it's no wonder nobody knew it was Naminé."

I massaged the bridge of my nose as I fell back onto his bed, my eyes shutting in frustration.

"Three or four months?" I let out a deep sigh as I thought back to the last big fight we had. "I bet they hooked up right after we lost the baby..."

"The baby? What're you talking about?" Sora scooted closer to me. "Naminé was pregnant?"

"Yeah, we found out about six months ago, but there were a lot of complications so we didn't want to spread the news until we were sure everything was going to be ok." I sat back up and grabbed my drink from the floor. "The miscarriage took a toll on both of us. We fought for weeks..." I took a drink and ran a hand through my hair. "I should have seen this coming."

"Maybe you did. I mean, you aren't acting too torn up about it. If it was me, I'd probably be balling my eyes out and locking myself up in my apartment." He got up and turned the gaming console and t.v. off before grabbing a drink himself and rejoining me on the bed.

"I guess you're right. I told Kairi that's what it felt like; it felt like a great weight had been lifted off of my shoulders. I guess it had been over for a while." I leaned over to sit my drink down on the floor, but quickly jumped up as it tipped over and soaked into a shirt that had been laying beside the bed. "Shit! Sorry, Sora... get me a towel or something... I hope that shirt isn't a favorite." He got up and grabbed the shirt, laughing slightly.

"That's alright! It's Riku's shirt, anyways." He grabbed a towel out of his laundry basket and dropped it on top of the spill, moving it back and forth with his foot.

"Riku's, huh?" He looked over at me and nodded, a slight blush covering his cheeks. "Can I ask you something? It's probably none of my business, but it kind of just came to my attention today."

"Sure, what's up?" He threw the towel and shirt into the hamper and sat back down. His azure eyes looked up into mine, but I could tell he knew what I was about to ask. And he was scared.

"Is something going on between you and Riku?" I turned a little, watching him from the corner of my eye. He kept staring straight at me, not even a flinch. "I know, I know. I'm probably just over-thinking things, but at the mall today..."

"I love him." I turned to face him, my eyes widened with utter shock.

"You what?"

"I love him, Roxas. I always have and always will." I watched him as he got up and walked over to his nightstand, grabbing another framed picture. This one was of him, Kairi and Riku on Destiny Islands. "I thought I could keep it a secret. I thought we could just live our lives like normal people, but... I don't see that happening anymore."

"When did this..."

"We both realized it about a year ago. I mean, I'm sure we both knew before hand, but we told each other about a year ago. After you and I graduated college." He held the picture close to his chest as he took a seat, tears starting to roll down his cheeks.

"What about Kairi?" I took a seat beside him and wrapped my arm around his shoulders. "Have you told her?"

"Of course I have! I couldn't hide something like that from her!" He lowered the picture and stared long and hard at the people he loved. "I told her right away. It's kind of funny, but she already knew." He put the picture back on his nightstand and leaned against me. "She promised not to tell and we agreed to just keep letting people think her and I were still together. I bet you think it's stupid, but, that's all I could think to do at the time. I'm sorry I didn't tell you."

"Don't apologize, Sora. I'm sure it's not easy to talk about something like that." I looked down at him and smiled. His spiky brown hair smelled like cinnamon. It was comforting.

"You don't think of me any different, do you? I was so worried about what you'd think of me once I came out." He looked up into my azure eyes and I could still see the fear within him.

"I have to admit, it's a little weird. But, I'm sure I'll get over it." I softly pushed him away from me as I stood up. "What surprises me is that Riku kept it a secret. He doesn't seem like the type to keep something like that hush-hush."

"Yeah, he's had a hard time with it. He's extremely proud of who he is and who he loves. He doesn't want to hide it at all." He looked back at the picture on his nightstand and smiled. "Maybe it's about time we open up and tell everyone. It shouldn't be a secret anymore."

"You're right. It shouldn't. And if someone doesn't like it, then they shouldn't be a part of your life anyways." I walked over to his bedroom door and opened it. "I'm gonna head out, alright? I think we both need some time to ourselves. It's been one hell of a day."

I left. I didn't know where I was going and I didn't care. My girlfriend had been cheating on me for four months and my best friend turned out to be gay.

I needed to get away.
