24. Chapter 24

Chapter 23-

Swirlpaw POV

We run through the rain. Every second it seems as if the storm is growing stronger. It's so dark and I worry that some cat will fall and be left behind.

We eventually make it back to camp and all the cats that stayed behind nearly trample us with questions.

"Why has the storm come so soon?"

"Is StarClan angry?"

"Was there a fight?"

"SILENCE!" Yowls Blackstar from the low-branch.

The clan is quiet and sits instantly. "Two former WindClan warriors, Breezepelt and Nightcloud, appeared at the gathering. They tried to tell about a great danger and curse on the clans. There is nothing to fear. They were driven off and this storm has been brewing all day." He meows "let us get some rest and hope for good hunting tomorrow."

Every cat heads toward the dens, looking for sleep and someplace dry.

I head toward the apprentice den with Berrypaw and Blackpaw. Once in our nest we begin to wash our pelts and talk together.

"I'm so completely soaked, I feel half RiverClan." Meows Blackpaw

"Well at least we are safe and on our way to dry." Replies Berrypaw

I look at my pelt. It's decently dry now and it looks like a bird has been nesting in it. Ill have to fix it in the morning though. I'm to tired to do it now.

Suddenly a figure appears in the opening of the den. We all jump to our feet as lightening flashes behind them.

"Oh Littlecloud! It's only you." Meows Berrypaw "what is it? Is something wrong."

"It's, just come with me. I need your help." He meows before running towards his den, trying to avoid getting soaked

"Oh no, I think it's Blackstar." She squeaks before running out as well

Blackpaw slumps back down into her nest, her white paws tucked under her. "What are we going to do if Blackstar dies? He's my mentor. I'm nearly through with my training. He's like kin to me and I want him to be the one giving me my name." She whispers

We sit in silence waiting for Berrypaw to return. Nothing could make us sleep now.

The silence lets me think back to the gathering. Why did I react like that? They are my sisters and I shooed them away like annoying kits.

Why?

I don't know.

"she's back." Meows Blackpaw

Berrypaw walks in slowly. "Blackstar lost a life." Is all she says

"How many lives left?" Blackpaw asks quietly

"One." Berrypaw whispers, before curling up in her nest and falling asleep. Wet fur and all.

Blackpaw and I pad over to her and clean her fur so she can sleep more comfortably.

I wonder what will happen now.
