*Everyone groans*
To Be Continued
Forgotten
(Austin's P.O.V.)
I have no trouble falling asleep, despite the fact that apparently I've been sleeping a lot lately. If this is a way I can see… Abby? Ashley? Amy? I don't even remember the name of my own girlfriend. Sarah, or whatever her name is, is seriously messed up. And I've lost my memories before?
Don't even get me started on this 'communication.' I may not remember anything, but I do know that what we're able to do shouldn't be possible. Talk in each others' minds and see each other in dreams? It's crazy. But apparently possible.
I guess it takes longer than I thought to fall asleep, because I don't drift off until after all those thoughts run through my mind. When I finally do fall asleep, I find myself in a white room.
"That took a while," (I'm gonna say 'my girlfriend' to be safe) my girlfriend says.
"Falling asleep was harder than I thought it would be," I say. She nods.
"It gets easier. But because you lost your memories, I guess you have to start over the process." I nod.
"Listen…" I trail off.
"Ally," she says patiently.
"Right," I say quickly, shaking my head, "sorry. Listen, Ally, I'm not saying I don't believe you or anything, but are you sure I'm not, like, hallucinating or dreaming or something? I mean, having a girlfriend like you," I gesture to her, "is a miracle in itself. But all these evil old ladies, and powers, and torture, and this," I gesture around the weird room, "is a little too much to believe." Ally sighs.
"I know it's a lot to take in, especially when you don't remember anything. Last time you lost your memories, we were about toe-deep in all this, and it was easier for you to handle. But now we're up to our necks, and we're about to drown. I understand if you don't believe me, I wouldn't believe me either if I was in your position, but we need each other to even think about getting through this. We may be drowning, but we're also the only lifeboats in sight," she says.
"You're confusing me," I say simply. What's all this with drowning and lifeboats? She sighs.
"Never mind. Just please believe me when I tell you that all this is real. I nod.
"I believe you. This whole thing is stranger than any dream I could come up with." She smiles.
"Good."
"Oh, and by the way, you can slap me now," I remember.
"Huh?"
"I told you earlier to slap me for not calling you beautiful enough. There's no wall between us now, so you can slap me."
"I'm not slapping you."
"But I-"
"I'm not slapping my boyfriend for not calling me beautiful enough!" she interrupts. "I'm not that kind of person."
"Well, I'm happy about that," I say, "but I'm still mad that you don't think you're beautiful."
"Whatever," she says. Then, she wraps her arms around my neck in a hug. I raise an eyebrow, but awkwardly wrap my arms around her small waist. She hugs me tightly, but I'm afraid that if I hold her too tight, she'll break or something. Hey, don't judge me. She's tiny, and I don't know how to have a girlfriend. Well, I probably know how, but I can't remember.
"You're a lot shorter than I thought," I comment when we pull away. She narrows her eyes and pouts.
"I get that a lot."
"But it's cute," I manage to save myself. She smiles.
"Nice save." I grin.
"Why, thank you. Pretty good for a guy with no memory, yeah?"
"I guess."
"So, at school, are we like the 'it' couple?" I ask.
"Well, at the moment, everyone thinks we broke up. I mentioned that part when I told you everything that's happened, right?" I nod. "But last year, when we were a couple the first time, I guess you could say we were the 'it' couple. As in, you're the 'it' guy, so anyone you date becomes the other half of the 'it' couple. I'm nowhere near the 'it' girl. Her name's Cassidy. She's gorgeous and has every guy drooling over her. Well, except the one guy who she's drooling over."
"You're not the most popular girl in school? I need to talk to… someone with an important spot in the group that makes these rulings." Ally starts cracking up. "What?" I say.
"The way you…" she trails off because she starts laughing again. She calms down a bit and manages to say, "You're just really cute when you don't have your memories."
"Anyway, who's the one guy who's not drooling over her?"
"You," she says. "You hate her. And I'm not saying that as a jealous girlfriend-I'd never be jealous of her-I mean it. You seriously hate her. She's always trying to get you to dump me and go out with her. You think she's annoying and stuck-up and pretty much everything else she actually is. But you're the only guy to see it."
"Oh. Well, I already know I won't like anyone except you." She smiles. Then, she starts leaning in slowly. Whoa, whoa, whoa. I'm not ready for this! I just met this girl! She's pretty and I like her, but I've never kissed anyone before! I mean, I don't remember kissing anyone, but that's practically the same thing. Oh, gosh, she's gonna think I'm weird. What do I do? I'm freaking out! Why does she make me so nervous?
Her lips meet mine, and my eyes close and I'm kissing her back. I'm on autopilot. I may not remember kissing her mentally, but physically, I know exactly what I'm doing. I let my mind shut down for a while, and it feels right kissing her. I don't exactly remember anything, but the feelings I'm feeling right now are very familiar. And these feelings are pretty much the best things ever. I'm flying, but I'm free-falling at a million miles an hour. That's the best way to describe it.
We pull away sooner than I'd like. I know I'm grinning like an idiot, but I don't really care. Ally's smiling, too, but then she sighs.
"Well, that didn't work."
"Huh?"
"Oh, right, I didn't explain that part. Last summer, you got your memories back when you kissed me. Well, and you looked me in the eyes, but whatever."
"So that's the only reason why you just kissed me?" I ask, feeling hurt.
"No, no!" she exclaims, resting her hands on my arms. "Not at all. I kissed you 'cause you're my boyfriend. I just remembered that that's how you got your memories back."
"Oh," I say with relief. "Good. You scared me." She chuckles, but then she disappears. I raise an eyebrow and wake up as quickly as I can.
When I open my eyes, Sarah is talking to Ally. I feel a surge of protectiveness and start to run to her, only to crash into the clear wall.
"Ow," I mumble, rubbing my forehead where it hit the wall. On the other side, Ally starts laughing. She must've seen me.
Did you just crash into the wall? she asks.
Maybe, I reply. But I didn't remember it was there 'cause she took my memories, remember? I see Ally roll her eyes, and then Sarah turns around to look at me. She sends me a glare and turns back to Ally. Then, she disappears,
"Hello, again," I hear behind me. I turn around to see Sarah in my cell.
"What do you want?" I ask, trying to sound brave.
"The memory torture isn't working as well as I thought. I have to come up with something better. So, I guess you can have your memories back," she says sadly. "Souvenirs retour," she says.
I'm flooded with all of my memories. The force of the spell is so strong, I'm thrown backwards against the wall.
Austin, are you okay? Ally asks.
I'm really mad, but I'm fine. I can't believe that witch took away my memories twice.
I know, me neither. And the proper name for her kind is Shadow. I didn't tell you that.
I know, I say. She gave me my memories back.
She did? Ally asks.
Yeah. Man, I was really awkward without my memories. 'You're really pretty. Wait, I said that already,' I quote myself. I mean, you are pretty, but… You know what I mean. Ally laughs.
I gotcha, Ally says.
"Taking away my memories again. Real original," I say to Sarah.
"I remembered how horrible it was for Ally last time, but the stupid girl decided to be calm about it."
"Don't call her stupid," I say. "She's smarter than you." Sarah rolls her eyes, and she looks a lot like Piper when she does it… Well, a really old version of Piper.
"Anyway, I need to come up with a more effective way to torture Ally."
"Or, you know, you could leave her alone and torture me instead," I offer casually.
"I don't think so."
"Dang it," I mutter.
"Oh! I have an idea!" Sarah exclaims.
"Now, now. Let's not make any rash deci-" Sarah disappears before I can finish. I sigh and watch Sarah appear in Ally's cell. Well, at least I have my memories back.
Sarah snaps her bony fingers and Ally falls to the ground. She looks around, but I can see in her eyes that she doesn't actually see anything. And before you say that's impossible, slap yourself, 'cause you're wrong.
Ally starts yelling. But I can see she's yelling the same thing over and over. She gets up and walks around with her arms outstretched like a zombie. I pay closer attention to her lips to try to see what she's saying, and I'm pretty sure it's my name.
Ally, I'm right here, I say.
I don't see you! she screams in my head. You promised you wouldn't leave me, but you're gone! You broke your promise!
Ally, calm down, I'm on the other side of the wall, I say.
What wall? All I see is darkness. Where are you? You're gone when I need you!
Please calm down, I say, getting worried. Sarah just put a spell on you. I promise I'm right here.
I can't calm down! You left me, just like I knew you would!
I didn't leave you! I would never leave you! Remember what I said? I'm not giving up. Try to break the spell. I know you can do it.
How? I can't do anything, she says.
You said all you see is darkness, right? I ask. I see her nod. Luckily, Sarah already disappeared. Right, so you said you thought I left you? Well, I didn't. Imagine me coming toward you. Trust me, if this wall wasn't there, you'd already be in my arms. But, since it is there, you'll just have to imagine. I'm right here. Pretend you're opening your eyes, and everything's back to normal. You're waking up from a nap in the practice room, and I'm right next to you.
Ally nods. I guess my weak comforting skills aren't so weak after all. Ally shuts her eyes, and then opens them. She breaks out in a grin and starts running towards me from the other side of her cell.
Ally, there's a- She runs into the wall. I obviously start laughing. Now, we're even, I say. Is the spell broken?
Ow, and yeah. Thanks. I can't believe how much I was freaking out. You know my biggest fear isn't being alone. It's you leaving me. I don't know how Sarah figured it out, but I know she knew.
I'd never leave you, Ally. I've promised you time and time again. You just have to start believing it.
It's kinda hard when your boyfriend is famous and has every girl in the world in love with him. Knowing you could have almost anyone… It's a little scary.
I told you this earlier, Als. I love you, and only you. I'll never love anyone but you. If you disappear, I wouldn't even try to find another girl. I'd die before being with someone who isn't you.
I love you, too, is all she says.
This torture is getting worse and worse. The mental is worse than the physical, and I think Sarah's figuring that out, I tell her. She nods.
Well, you're my lifeboat. Without you, I would've already drowned.
Okay, the chapter name made me cry. I'm not gonna deny it. Soooo... How are you guys? Lol I'm so awkward... Does anyone watch the show Shark Tank? It gives me anxiety... Anywhoozles, I dont' have much to say, so if you liked it, put MEMORIES in a review! If you kinda liked it, put LIFE BOAT in a review, and if you hated it, put DROWNING in a review! Thanks so much for putting up with my bad mood last chapter and making me feel better. Oh, and thanks for reading, of course! And please review! Love you all more than I love Christmas! Ohh oo ohwhoaa) Lol that was me trying to type the 'oh' part in I Love Christmas XD.
