*1 moon later*

*Stormfoot's P.O.V.*

For the past moon, Windclan has been pushing the borders. Bramblestar has tried to make peace with them, but that caused them to push the borders even further.

The clan, me included, is getting nervous. Bramblestar has noticed this and therefore he attempted to make things better, sort of speak. He made Barkpaw and Mudpaw warriors; they are now called Barkfang and Mudfoot.

Bramblestar also made Sunfur's kits into apprentices a few days ago. Cloudkit is Cloudpaw and his mentor is Bumblestripe. Finchkit is Finchpaw and her mentor is Whitewing.

Alright, now the news is over.

I'm sharing a shrew with Firestorm, Cinderheart, and Lionblaze. None of us have any real news. Except I noticed Rainpaw sprinting into the camp, and then I scented Windclan.

"Bramblestar, Windclan are attacking!" She gasped.

Bramblestar ran out of his den with Foxleap and Jayfeather on his tail. "Where are they?" He asked Rainpaw.

"Lilypelt, Molewhisker, and I were on a border patrol and Windclan were waiting for us. Onestar said that he needed more territory and then they attacked us. Lilypelt sent me back to get help." She told him, obviously out of breath from sprinting from the Windclan border back to the camp.

Bramblestar nodded and turned to Foxleap. "Lead a battle patrol to the border. I'll follow you closely with another patrol."

Foxleap nodded and ran to the center of the camp. "Stormfoot, Firestorm, Whitewing, Finchpaw, Birchfall, Lionblaze, Leafpool, and Goldentail, you come with me!" He yelled.

I ran to Foxleap's side, ready for battle. When we all assembled, he nodded and led us out of the camp. As we were leaving I heard Bramblestar tell a few cats to guard the camp while the rest of us battled.

We weren't even halfway to the border when I heard Lilypelt and Molewhisker's yowls. There were many more yowls from Windclan warriors.

When we arrived, I saw Whiskertail pinning Molewhisker to the ground, threatening to slice his claws through his throat. Not even waiting for Foxleap to give the signal, I ran out and threw myself at Whiskertail, freeing Molewhisker. I heard Foxleap's battle screech behind me.

In no time at all, the clearing was full of battling warriors. I bit into Whiskertail's throat, though not hard enough to kill him. He threw me off of him and bit down on my right ear. I felt almost no pain as he tore off part of my ear, though blood dripped into my eyes.

While I was blind I felt my claws tear into soft flesh. The next second I blinked the blood out of my eyes. I watched in pure horror as Whiskertail collapsed to the ground, a deep gash in his throat and menace in his eyes. Before I knew it, he was lying still at my paws.

I froze. I couldn't believe it, I wouldn't believe it. I had only killed once, and that was because Shadefur would have destroyed the clans if I hadn't. But it was done, I killed Whiskertail.

I didn't have time to get over my shock though, because in the next second I had Nightcloud on my back. I battled hard, but I didn't use as much strength. I didn't want to kill another warrior.

I bit and scratched, but she was older and more experienced. Before I knew it, I was pinned to the ground with Nightcloud's teeth in my throat. The world started to fade away in a red haze. But then I felt the weight come off of me and I regained consciousness.

I looked over and saw my father, Lionblaze pinning Nightcloud to the ground. I couldn't help but notice that he didn't have a scratch on him. I saw him pummeling Nightcloud's exposed belly with his hind claws. And then he was beside me, Nightcloud limping back into her territory.

"Stormfoot, are you okay?" He asked me.

I gasped, savoring the fact that I was still alive. "Yeah, I'm fine."

"You're injured, retreat back to camp." He told me.

I opened my mouth to argue, but his stare was deadly serious. I nodded and lifted myself to my paws. I ran back to camp, more so I ran to the top of the hill to watch the outcome of the battle.

What I saw almost made me retch. Whiskertail wasn't the only one dead. I saw two other cats lying still. One was Furzetail, of Windclan. The other, was Foxleap.

I stared at their bodies for another moment before I turned and fled back to camp.

When I arrived in the camp, Cloudtail intercepted me before I could get to Jayfeather and Briarlight. "What happened?"

I breathed in a few breaths before I answered the elder. "Foxleap is dead."

Cloudtail stared at me as if seeing me for the first time. "He's really dead… Are you sure you saw that right?" He asked me.

"Of course I did! Why would I lie to you?" I snapped.

"I didn't accuse you of lying, you're injured, and you might not have seen it correctly." He said.

"I know what I saw." I told him before I walked to the medicine den.

Jayfeather walked over with Briarlight dragging herself towards me behind him. He told Briarlight something, but I couldn't hear. I was already fainting.

*Later*

I woke up in the same place that I fell asleep, though I felt much better. I noticed a few other cats lying in different nests. I recognized them as Leafpool, Molewhisker, and Birchfall.

I started to rise to my paws when Jayfeather stopped me. "You still have some deep scratches; take it easy if you're leaving the den. I've had Bramblestar take you off of warrior duties for the next few days." He told me.

I nodded, noticing Jayfeather's sharp tone. I exited the medicine den and the first thing I saw were Icecloud lying beside her brother's body. But I also noticed another body, Fuzzyfur. I didn't know he was dead to.

I saw Firestorm padding over to me, a relieved look in his eyes. "You're alive, thank Starclan." He said.

"Yeah, but Foxleap and Fuzzyfur aren't." I said.

Firestorm nodded solemnly. "They may be dead, but they will be honored in Starclan."

I agreed with him. "They died in a pointless battle. Their deaths were Onestar's fault."

"I agree, but it's not worth another battle." He said.

We spent a few moments in silence. Then I looked up and noticed Bramblestar standing on the Highledge.

"Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather here beneath the Highledge for a clan meeting!" He yowled.

We all gathered beneath the Highledge. "I'm sure you have all heard of Foxleap and Fuzzyfur's deaths. And although I would like to tell you that they didn't die in vain, but the battle was pointless. Onestar has brought these deaths, and for nothing more than a small piece of territory." He paused.

"Foxleap was my deputy and though he didn't serve me long, I couldn't have asked for a better deputy. But it is time for me to name my newest deputy. May Starclan look down upon his body and approve my choice; Lionblaze will be the newest deputy of Thunderclan!" He yelled.

My father looked up, clearly taken aback, but he recovered quickly. "I'm honored Bramblestar. Foxleap served you for a short time and I shouldn't be taking his place so quickly, but I still accept the position."

Bramblestar nodded as the clan yelled Lionblaze's name.

Lionblaze had told the truth, Foxleap had served as Bramblestar's deputy for a very short amount of time. It wasn't his time to go to Starclan.

And the chapter is over! Alright guys, see you later.
