Hey guys. I've known it's been forever since a new chapter has been released but there's good news! I'm going to re-write this story, and make sure it's on a regular schedule. ( Unlike last time -_-|| ) I'm unhappy with how this is turning out. There's barely any romance development and it upsets me :c i think the romance was rushed because I was always trying to make something to fill in the gaps of my absence. So, I'm going to rewrite the entire story. Some things are going to change. It will also have new twist and turns to keep the story fresh. And because I don't want to leave you with a boring Author's note telling you you're going have to wait all over again, Here's a little one-shot ^^ (Also, I'm debating on deleting this or not, any opinions?)
Clive was pacing back and forth, nervously playing with his jacket.
"Hey, calm down. You know Luke isn't planning some detailed escape. He doesn't even know you're here." Looking down a little, he saw Flora giving him a small smile. He returned it.
"Yeah, you're right. I just..." Clive paused and softly let out a laugh. "It's been a few years, hasn't it?" Flora looked away with a glazed look in her eyes.
"Yeah it has. When you first left, Luke was sad. Then he became angry, wondering why you would come here from jail only to leave again." She shook her head softly. "And then he sort of excepted it. But he still get's sad sometimes." She laughed softly. "I'm probably the only one other than Luke himself who knows this, but he carries your picture around." Clive looked at Flora, his eyes wide in shock. Flora shook her head, smiling softly. "He's become a great guy. Well...technically still a teen. He's grown up a lot.." Clive laughed softly.
"So have you." He said, and he was right. Flora was now a young woman, in her early twenty's. She wore a light orange blouse and a black knee level skirt. She wore black boots along with black stockings. She still, however, kept her hair in a pony-tail. Flora blushed at his observation and looked to the side.
"I-I know I have.." She mumbled and looked at her clothes. "But am I overdoing it for twenty?" she asked nervously.
"No!" Clive suddenly yelled. Seeing Flora shocked, he coughed awkwardly. "I-I meant you're quite mature for your age. It's hard to see in most young adults. So, don't second guess yourself about it, okay?" Flora nodded and smiled widely, glad at the compliment. Suddenly, they both heard a creaking from a bit away. Flora looked up and winked at him, giving him a thumbs up. Cry looked to the doorway, his heart beating fast.
"I'm home.." Came a familiar voice to Clive. It had changed a bit, but to him, it still had an air of innocence. With each sound of a step, Clive swore his heart sped up faster. Trying to force down the feeling, he put a smirk on his face, leaned on the wall and crossed his arms, waiting to finally see the person who had been flooding his thoughts since he had left. A hand appeared in the door, opening it as Luke gave out a sigh.
"Flo-" His mouth dried up as soon as he saw Clive.
"Miss me?" Clive teased, the smirk growing. But, Clive had to admit, it was hard not to run over to Luke and hug the daylights out of him. Luke had changed a bit. He had grown taller -Clive had a bit too, so Luke was about a head shorter-, his hair had grown a bit, but kept about the same style. The only different thing being he had a second tuff of hair for his bangs. He still had a light blue hat, probably fixed so it fit him now or a new one completely. One thing he noted was that He was wearing a grey sweater, The black tips of a blazer poking out. He was also wearing black pants and shoes, carrying black bag.
"Maybe a school uniform?" Clive thought to himself. However, he was soon surprised as he heard a loud thump from the bag hit the floor and the feeling of arms intertwining around his torso.
"Idiot!" He heard Luke yelled, slightly muffled by Clive's shirt. Clive stared at Luke with wide eyes before they softened considerably. He then wrapped his arms around Luke, resting his head on top of Luke's head.
"I've missed you too." He said, smiling softly. Luke moved his head to look up at Clive, and Clive moved his head so Luke could do so. He was shocked when he saw tears pouring down Luke's face. He moved one of his hands to brush them away. "Luke...aren't you happy to see me?" He asked, slightly hurt. That earned a glare from Luke and slight hitting to Clive's chest.
"Of course I've missed you, You big, stupid idiot!" He yelled. "Not a day's gone by without me worrying about your safety!" Clive blinked, before laughing softly. "W-why are you laughing, it isn't funny!" Luke yelled, a slight dust of blush coming to his cheeks.
"I'm laughing because if I knew having to go into the army would get your attention, I should have done it a while ago, hmm?" Clive said. He reached forward, holding Luke's face as his got closer and closer, until he rested his head on Luke's. Luke's eyes widened and his blush worsened, going from a light pink to a deep red. Luke soon glared.
"I would s-still have payed attention to you!" He argued. "B-Besides..Why did you go into the army if you were already let out of jail?" He mumbled. Clive's eyes softened and he laughed softly.
"Hmm..I don't think my little Luke has changed at all."
"H-hey!"
"Anyway," Clive interrupted. "I wanted to atone for what I had done." He let out a humorless laugh. "But there's no way I could have done that. So I wanted to help in anyway I could." Clive's eyes widened as he felt a hard slap on his cheek. Backing up and lifting his hand up to cover the stinging cheek, he looked down at Luke. "Luke.."
"You could have gotten killed!" Luke yelled. "Four years Clive! It's been four years! How do you think that hurt? I was always worried you would be killed, or tortured, or something!" Luke looked up at him, glaring at Clive with eyes blurred with tears. "From fourteen to now, Eighteen!" he yelled, more tears pouring. "Every birthday I wished you would come back! T-That you would come back in one piece." Luke brought his hands to his face. "You could have atoned somehow else.." He whispered. "I know I sound selfish, b-but.." He looked up with a pained expression. Clive's eyes widened. He knew he made Luke worry but..this much?
"Luke.." Flora mumbled, Walking over and trying to comfort her younger sibling figure. Luke shook his head.
"I'm fine Flora!" He said and let out a soft, strained laugh. "I-I'm just going to go on a walk." He said and dashed to the door, opening it and quickly dashing outside. Flora looked over to Clive.
"Go get him, and don't let him go." Flora commanded, a deeper meaning to what she meant. Clive nodded and dashed off after Luke. As soon as he ran out, he had noticed it has started snowing.
"Luke will get sick at this rate.." He thought worriedly. Looking around, he saw footprints starting from the door. Realizing in a moment they were Luke's, he quickly followed them. After about a half an hour, he ended up in a park. He continued running hurriedly, the footsteps leading him to a large tree in the center of the park. Breathing heavily, he stopped when he saw a figure leaning on the tree. Getting closer, he soon saw it was Luke. Walking faster, he was soon next to said boy. Luke looked up at him, tears staining his face.
"I'm sorry.." He whispered, his voice hoarse from yelling and crying. Looking to the side, he smiled. "I guess I haven't changed at all. I'm still a cry-baby and drama maker, aren't I?" he muttered and shook his head. "It's pathetic really. I don't know how I-"
"You're bright." Clive interrupted. Luke looked up, confused. Clive simply knelled next to him, brushing some of his hair out of his face. "And I don't just mean intelligence. When a smile appears on that cute little face of yours, you radiantly shine." Luke's face went pink.
"Y-You're not supposed to call a boy c-cute!" Clive smiled and went on.
"And then there's that. This adorable little fiery side to you. I think it's cute how you get all worked up, like now."
"I-I'm not worked up.." Luke mumbled, glaring slightly. Clive laughed softly. He then leaned forward and held Luke's face.
"And I don't think there's anything wrong with crying now and then." Luke was about to speak, But Clive spoke up. "You know how people say that a man has to be strong?" Luke nodded softly in Clive's hold. "Well, how do you know his strength if he shows no fear? No tears?" Clive then rested his forehead on Luke's, much like earlier.
"I think there's nothing wrong with you, Luke. And I greatly apologize for leaving like that." Luke closed his eyes.
"It's..It's okay. I'm just so glad you're okay." Luke whispered, small tears running down his cheeks as he opened his eyes. Clive smiled and held Luke close to him.
"I'm not leaving again. I'll be here for you, okay?"
"Okay.." Luke whispered. Leaning up, he gently kissed Clive's cheek. He then rested his head on Clive's chest. "Thank you Clive," Luke yawned softly. "For caring about me." Clive blinked in surprise as Luke fell asleep, still shocked by the younger boy's actions. Laughing softly, he picked Luke up and began heading back to the Layton household.
"I will always care for you, Luke." Clive whispered softly, kissing Luke's forehead.
