Emily is very careful to enter the room quietly. At 3 AM, there is bound to be someone else trying to sneak in some shut eye during a killer shift. However, the light from the hall shows only one occupant. It's Micah. Emily smiles gently and slowly closes the door behind her, grimacing as the latch clicks noisily in the stillness of the room.
Micah raises his head and blinks sleepily at her in the dark before smiling in recognition. "Hey."
"Hi" she says quietly, coming to sit on the bed across from him. "I'm sorry I woke you."
" 'S okay" he says propping himself up on his arm. "How's your case?"
"We won't know anything for a couple of hours, so I thought I would try to get some rest," sighs Emily, slipping off her shoes.
"Hey, I have room here" says Micah, shifting over slightly and lifting the light blanket for her invitingly.
"What if someone else comes in?"" asks Emily hesitantly.
"More beds to choose from" Micah says, with an impish grin. Sensing his humor is not easing her uncertainty, his voice becomes much more reassuring. "It'll be okay. Everybody knows about us now anyway. We'll just tell them I can't sleep well without you…which is pretty much true."
He knows he has her then. Emily has never been able to deny him anything when he wears his heart on his sleeve like that. She moves her shoes and pager over next to his and lies down beside him under the blanket. Micah wraps his arm around her, and places a kiss on her shoulder as they both settle in.
"Isn't this better?" he says quietly, his breath tickling her ear.
"Perfect." She replies honestly. He gently squeezes her in acknowledgement, and though she can't see his face, she imagines him smiling peacefully as she lets sleep overtake her.
