CALIFORNIA DREAMING
A sea-driven breeze whipped though Leon's hair. He maneuvered his new Mercedes S500 along the Pacific Coast Highway with D and Chris in tow. The Beach Boys' California Girls played on the radio. Ah, summer vacation.
"Detective Orcot!"
Blinking his surprise, Leon looked up only to find the Chief glaring at him.
"What?" Leon snapped, his happy thoughts gone in a puff of smoke.
"Are you done with the report on the McMillian murders?"
"I'm working on it." It wasn't a total lie; the file was on his desk.
"Get your ass in gear. We don't pay you to daydream."
