run, i'm a natural disaster

The Imperial Palace- while admittedly large, pristine, and richly furnished- is not all that Heinkel, Darius and Ed had really hoped for. The halls are too big, the ornamentation of the rooms too extravagant, and all in all there are far too many people. Ling and LanFan are perfectly happy, of course, as they had been brought up in such places. It was actually a surprise to the group of Amestrians about how much the now-Emperor and bodyguard had willing to slum it. Greed is in his element, access to pretty much everything he desires- rich food, pretty women, all the money in the treasury, political dealings to get more of that list.
"I never thought I'd say it, but I miss the fucking army barracks, let alone the hotels and pubs and brothels," groans Heinkel. He's smoking from a pipe, far too elegantly carved to be anything but a gift from Ling [they deserved it. They had helped him overthrow the previous Emperor after all].
"Amen," Darius and Ed chime in. Ed is sitting on a poufy foot-stool, poking at the fire. She sighs and continues where Heinkel left off.
"I mean, I got lost yesterday trying to find the bathroom from 'my chambers'," she pronounces the last part in a faux-posh accent, trying and failing to mimic the voice of the many servants in the Palace and their odd pronunciation.
"But they're literally a door away!" Darius sounds shocked and a little disbelieving.
"I know," Ed glares, and then her lips twitch and they all collapse laughing.
When they all stop and look at each other again, Darius pipes up with; "I think I might take some blankets and build myself a nest in the vents." It's all it takes to start them off again, Heinkel grinning something about never knowing he was a bird [in both senses of the word], and Ed just gesturing to his hips and shoulders, then moving to the vent and seeing how they measure up.
"I can build us a little house with alchemy," Ed offers, suddenly serious. "We'll have to get someone to work on plumbing and electricity-"
"- We can do the essential bits of that," Heinkel cuts in. "We've had to do grunt work before, for the military."
Ed nods, and continues, "And we can get furnishings pretty easy. I can get us a little money fixing shit and you guys can do odd jobs and stuff?"
"Yeah". They all nod, and think about it, creating the image of an Amestrian style house, all alone next to a field, for the three of them to laugh and play around with- with no servants or lords or Emperors or whatever.
"But… Greed." Ed says.
"Yeah." They reply, and they don't bring it up again.
