A/N: Hey guys! Thanks for the reviews :) Okay just to clear up, there is only one baby. People have been asking and I realise it's totally my fault for referring to the baby as 'they' because the sex isn't known yet; I will avoid doing so from now on. Anyway, I hope you enjoy! A fluffy chapter which ends up very dramatic indeed ;)

Please Review :) xx

Chapter 14: Good to Bad

The moment had come which Greg had been dreading since the start. He was going to tell his mother about the baby; he had agreed to do so once it started kicking after all. Greg walked up and down the living room sluggishly as he waited for one of his parents to pick up the phone.

"Gregory Hojem!" the shrill voice of his mother finally answered. Greg sighed and rolled his eyes, he'd been expecting this reaction. "Why have you not called me in the past five weeks!?"

"Phones work both ways mom!" Greg argued back "I've been e-mailing you and…"

"That's not the same as hearing your voice, sweetie" Rose Sanders said in an upset tone, but Greg knew his mother too well; she was trying to guilt trip him "I just want to know that you're okay…"

Greg sighed once more "I'm sorry, mom" he said sincerely "Morgan and I have just had a busy couple of weeks…"

"Why? Nothing bad happened at work did it?" Rose asked worriedly.

Greg couldn't help but smile slightly. Sometimes he wished his mother would stop worrying about him and treating him like a child, but he was her only child, and Greg knew keeping him close is what made his mother happy. He could never tell her what happened to Morgan and the baby a couple of weeks ago; she'd freak out big time.

"No, nothing like that. Still in one piece" Greg joked, although he could practically feel his mother's glare.

"How's Morgan?" Rose asked. She was fond of her daughter-in-law, a very kind hearted girl who kept her son out of trouble.

"She's good…really good" Greg said with a small smirk "Actually, the reason I called is because I have some really good news to tell you…"

"You finally grew out of those obnoxious rock and roll bands?" Rose teased.

"No!" Greg said grumpily; why did people always rag on him for his music? "Morgan's pregnant!" he blurted out. There was only silence on the phone "Erm, mom?" Greg said cautiously "You're not having a heart attack are you?"

"No...I… I just" Rose stuttered and she started crying tears of joy.

"Mom, you're not supposed to cry!" Greg told her "This is a very happy thing…"

"I know but, you're my only son" Rose told him "And I'm finally getting a grandchild, I'm going to be a grandma! I thought it might never happen…"

"Jee, thanks for the vote of confidence" Greg said sarcastically, but he was glad his mother was so happy "Can you put dad on please, I need a sane input on the situation"

"Hey kiddo" Greg's father, Ryan, was suddenly on the phone "I take it there's a baby on the way"

"Yeah" Greg said with a light laugh "How'd you know?"

"Your mom hasn't cried like this since she found out she was pregnant with you" Ryan explained and Greg smiled. "I'm really pleased for you; kiddo, you and Morgan deserve this"

"Thanks, dad. Listen; could you do me a favour?" Greg asked sheepishly.

"Sure" his father replied.

"Morgan is actually already nearly five months along" Greg confessed "And I don't really wanna tell mom myself because she'll go crazy on me so could you…"

Ryan chuckled "I'll tell her. I think I can understand why you hid it so long, she's looking at flights already"

"I would laugh if I didn't know you weren't kidding" Greg replied.

"I'll hand you back over kiddo, see if you can talk her down. Give my best to Morgan and the baby"

"I will, thanks dad" Greg replied. There was a moment of silence as Greg's mother came back to the phone.

"You better be taking good care of Morgan and the baby" Rose said sternly; this is exactly what Greg had been expecting "You better not leave her with the housework, and make sure she sleeps properly, is it safe for her to be working in such a dangerous job right now?"

"Mom! I'm taking good care of her, I promise" Greg cut into the ramble "I'm not as an incompetent husband as you think. Morgan's in the lab now so she's perfectly safe and I won't even let her lift a finger at home"

"Good" Rose said "Oh I'm so happy for you, sweetie. I love you so much"

Greg smiled "I love you too Mom. I gotta get ready for work but I promise to call in the next few days, alright?"

"You better mister, or else you're in big trouble!" Rose said firmly.

"Alright, alright" Greg laughed "Bye mom, I love you and dad"

"We love you too, sweetie" Rose replied "Take care"

And with, that Greg flopped down on the sofa, letting out a huff of air and running a hand down his face. He'd done it; it was over, now he just had to wait for the chaos to start when the baby was actually born…

Later on in the night and Greg had finished his shift at work. Morgan and Finn had had the day off, so Finn had kindly offered to take Morgan shopping to get things for the baby. Morgan was going for her 20 week scan in a few days; Greg wanted to know the sex, but Morgan didn't, so for now she was only buying neutral coloured things. Greg decided to ring and see how they were doing.

"Hey baby, you still out shopping?" Greg asked once Morgan had answered.

"Yeah" Morgan replied "I don't think I'll be much longer though, I was just going to pick up a few groceries before I went home"

"Oh, don't worry about that baby, I'll do it, I know what we need" Greg said "I've just finished up here anyway, you get straight home and rest"

"Okay, if you're sure" Morgan replied, she sounded a bit guilty "I feel bad sweetie, you've been working, decorating the house, looking after me and Bump, are you sure there's nothing I can do?"

"Baby it's fine, I want to do all those things" Greg replied "I like taking care of you and Bump. And you are carrying our baby, so it's not like you're doing nothing at all" he teased. "You can just take care of yourself and Bump, that's all I ask"

"Okay, instructions are loud and clear" Morgan replied with a light laugh "Don't take too long, we just want to snuggle up with you tonight"

"Mmm I'd like that too" Greg replied "I better get going then, I'll see you later baby. I love you, and tell Bump I love him or her as well"

Morgan giggled "We love you too. Bump has been kicking up a storm all day, he or she misses hearing daddy's voice!"

"Well I'll talk to baby later" Greg said with a smile "I love you guys" he said again; he would constantly remind them of that.

"We love you too" Morgan replied.

Greg went to the locker room and placed his kit away before heading out the parking garage.

Greg was walking through the supermarket, when he stopped down the aisle which held an array of sweet treats. He smiled and pulled out his phone.

"Hello?" Morgan answered.

"Hey baby, I'm stood looking at various boxes of chocolate which have your name on it" Greg smiled and Morgan laughed "What do you fancy?"

"Mmm, I've been craving Hershey's for a while actually" Morgan replied.

"Hershey's it is" Greg said as he reached out to take a box.

Suddenly, a loud bang erupted from somewhere within the store. Greg jumped and then ducked to the floor, he heard someone cry out in pain and then other people screaming.

"Everybody get down on the ground, this is a stick up!" a voice yelled.

"Greg? Sweetie what's going on?" Morgan asked frantically after hearing the noise.

"Nothing honey, everything's fine" Greg said in almost a whisper, he couldn't risk worrying her and it upsetting the baby "Listen I gotta go, but I'll be home really soon…I promise"

"Greg!" Morgan started, but the male CSI hung up before she could say anything else.

"Nobody leave, no one call the cops or else you're all dead!" a different voice yelled this time "And no one try to play hero. We want all the cash from the registers, and any cash you've got on you!" the voice demanded.

Greg turned to his left and saw a woman in the aisle with him. She was shaking and crying, protectively holding onto her heavily pregnant stomach. Greg crawled his way over.

"Hey, are you okay?" he whispered to her.

The woman sniffed and nodded "A-are you a cop?" she asked. Greg was still wearing his CSI jacket and she could see his gun concealed underneath.

"Not exactly" he said with a small smile "Crime Scene Investigator, listen, you need to stay calm for me okay? You don't want to upset the baby"

"I know" the woman said, rubbing her stomach "Oh God, what if they hurt my baby?" she sobbed.

"Ssh, it'll be okay, I won't let them" Greg reassured her as he pulled out his gun "Just stay well hidden behind this stand here. Just breathe, okay?"

"A-alright, thank you" she replied, wiping her eyes. "My name's Beca by the way…"

"I'm Greg" the CSI replied.

"Do you have any children, Greg?" Beca asked.

"My first one is on the way, my wife's twenty weeks pregnant, we're halfway there" Greg explained with a smile.

"Wow, Congratulations. This is my second, I'm nearly eight months" Beca replied.

"That's great" Greg smiled "Listen, I have to go and see if I can stop these guys somehow. Just stay safe, okay? I promise I won't let anything happen to you or your baby"

All Greg could think about was if he'd actually allowed Morgan to do the shopping, then it would be her and Bump stuck in this nightmarish situation instead of him, and Morgan wouldn't have even been armed. The thought pained Greg, but it made him glad that he had come instead. As he looked at Beca and how scared she was for the life of her child, Greg was remained of himself when he thought his own baby had been hurt a month ago. Well, he wasn't going to let this woman go through the same thing.

Greg cautiously rose to his feet and poised his gun, pointing it down towards the bottom of the aisle. He crept forward; deciding the sneak attack would probably be the best tactic. Unfortunately, so did the robbers.

Just as Greg reached the bottom of the aisle, one of the robbers popped out a few rows down. Seeing Greg and his gun, the assailant panicked and fired in Greg's direction. Greg quickly pulled back behind the stand, waiting for the fire to stop, before leaning back out and taking a few shots of his own.

"A cop, there's a cop down here!" the man yelled, firing at Greg again.

"I'm not a cop!" Greg called back, hoping to try and calm the man. "I'm a CSI!"

"What's the difference? You got a gun don't you?" the robber replied.

Greg sighed "Just listen to me, the cops will already be on their way, someone will have seen you come inside. Just let these people go, they're innocent. You can keep me as leverage if you want to"

"No deal man, we can't trust you!" the robber called back, and took another shot at Greg.

The CSI fired back, and was almost a little pleased with himself when he hit the man's shoulder, and he cried out in pain and feel to the floor.

"Greg, look out!" Beca screamed behind him.

Greg whipped round, ready to fire again. But he was too late. The man was faster.

Greg stumbled back, too shocked to even cry out in pain as a bullet entered his abdomen, and then another near his hip. Greg feel down to the ground and the world back to spin. He moved his shaking hands to try and cover the wounds, and he knew he was bleeding badly. He heard Beca scream, but his hearing was starting to go muffled.

Greg groaned as he fought to keep his eyes open. He knew he had to hold on. He had to hold on so he could go home and hug his wife and tell her that he loved her. He had to hold on so he could be there for the birth of his child, to hold his little boy or girl in his arms and watch them grow up. He just had to remember to breathe.

A dark figure suddenly appeared above the CSI, and Greg coughed, feeling the blood which he come spurting out of his mouth. He was dying, and he knew it.

"There's always someone who has to play the hero" the figure said in a gruff voice "I hate that"

Greg just looked at the man briefly with empty eyes, but there was just a flicker of recognition.

"Kyle…" he breathed, and then the father-to-be knew no more.
