CHAPTER 7

Randolph Litelli had many fears. She feared death. She feared getting physically assuaulted. She feared peer pressure. She feared spiders. You would think that she would be afraid of the water, since she never learned how to swim. But she didn't. She loved standing on the beach, letting the waves hit her as she flew into the air, her hair whipping across her face. Some of her most precious memories were those spent at the shore, just feeling the stillness that came with being on what she felt like was the edge of the world. Even though that was impossbile, since the world was round, and all. But that didn't stop her from loving the ocean water.

Randy was aware that she was drowning. She got deeper and deeper, not feeling in control of her body. All she could see was the dark blue water, and black spots appeared in her line of sight.

'Heh,' she thought, 'I guess drowning is my newest fear.'

The entirety of the pool was at a halt. The boys in the pool were clueless and shocked. The swim club assumed that Randy could swim. But once they saw bubbles at the surface, everyone began to shout.

"She's drowning!"

"Someone, save her!"

No one had saved her, since no one had really wanted to be the one responsible for her.

Haru was about to dive into the pool when Rin had cut in front of him, diving into the pool with ferocity. Rin didn't know the girl. Heck, he didn't know she was there until he heard his sister scream! Seeing his sister in such panic made him go into adrenaline mode, and he sped to the area of the drowning girl while all of his teammates remained still.

Rin swam to the near lifeless body, picking her up over his shoulder. He swam back to the surface, gasping for air and placing her body near the edge of the pool. Coming out of the water, he dragged her body farther away from the pool, setting her down once more. A crowd began to form around them, murmuring in fear and anticipation for what was to happen.

"Give her some space!," Rin yelled, causing everyone to take a few steps back.

"Oh, no! Will Randy-chan be okay?!," Nagisa asked, his eyes tearing.

Makoto stood, fearing for the girl's life. After all, he witnessed Haru drown when they were children. He didn't want the same thing to happen again. Haru stared at Randy with wide eyes, too shocked to move. Gou was crying and being consoled by Rei, who was also getting worried.

Rin looked at the girl, taking a moment to realize that she might be dying at that very moment. That was when panic had set in. He couldn't move. He couldn't breathe. What the fuck was he supposed to do? He placed his head down on her chest, trying to hear her heartbeat.

There was no pulse.

"Captain! She's not breathing!," Rin yelled at Mikoshiba, who was actually shocked enough to not remember that this was initially his responsibility. He was the captain, after all.

"R-right!," he said, going back to take-charge mode. "Anyone here know CPR?!," he yelled, while gesturing for the perverted and seemingly worried boys to give the unconcious girl space.

"Nitori!," Rin yelled at his kouhai, who stood worried.

"Y-yes?"

"Get the nurse! GO!," Rin yelled, causing the young boy to nod and run to the nurse's office.

'Oh shit, oh shit, oh shit.'

Rin just stared at the girl, feeling like he should do something. He really didn't know what to do. It's not like he'd ever given anyone CPR before.

Looking at his friends, he could tell that they were all worried. Haru met his gaze, and that was when Rin knew that he had to be the one to take action. After Haru's slight nod of encouragement, Rin looked at the girl he was going to either save or...he didn't want to think of the other option.

Slowly moving downward, Rin placed his lips on the girl's mouth. Everyone stopped talking and just stared at the scene in front of them. After giving her a few breaths, he then pushed his hands on her chest thirty times in a row. He lifted her chin, listening to the sounds of breathing. He cursed when he couldn't hear anything.

So he tried two more rounds before he saw Nitori in his line of sight. Relief flushed through him but it disappeared just as quickly when he noticed that Nitori was alone.

"NITORI! Where's the school nurse?!"

"He's not here, Matsuoka-senpai! The secretary isn't around, either!"

"FUCK! Ugh, just find SOMEONE!"

"Y-yes!," Nitori scampered out, even though it was a fruitless effort.

"You there!," Mikoshiba pointed at someone from the team, "call the hospital!"

"Y-yes, Captain!"

There really wasn't any time for a hospital to come. At least that's what Rin thought once he went through two more rounds of CPR. The idiot with the phone was on the line with 119, but he was taking FOREVER to explain the situation to the operator.

"The operator said to try CPR!"

"IDIOT, WHAT DO YOU THINK I'M DOING?!," Rin snarled, going back to pumping and breathing into the girl.

The boy repeated what Rin had just said and Rin just rolled his eyes in agony. It was then that Rin felt her body jolt, and he lifted his mouth from hers, staring down at her in shock. Fluttering her eyes open, she rose from the ground as if she was a corspe rising from the dead. Everyone cheered as she began vomiting up pool water. After she vomited, she lied back down, trying to take in air.

"Randy-chan's ok!," Nagisa cried, moving toward the now living girl. Haru placed his arm in front of the excited boy, giving him a stern look.

"She needs space," was all he said, and Nagisa nodded and stayed in his place.

"Good work, Matsuoka," Mikoshiba patted him on the shoulder, "you almost saved her life!"

'Yeah, almost,' Rin thought while he gritted his teeth. Man, trying to save someone's life was exhausting! But he was relieved that she wasn't, well, dead.

He continued to stare down at the girl while the captain and the others were trying to push his perverted teammates back. It was then that he noticed that she wasn't Japanese. Or at least, not ENTIRELY Japanese. He wasn't sure how or when the foreigner had gotten in there, but he thought he would notice.

"Hey...are you okay?," he asked, concerned for her dazed expression.

It was then that Randy noticed the boy who had saved her life. Her eyes widened, and her mouth fell open. Rin raised an eyebrow, wondering why she looked at him like that. She then grinned and reached her hand out to him. Before he could ask her what she was doing, she began to rub her hand down his abs.

* "Thanks for saving me, Sweetheart," she said with a wink.

Rin sat, too shocked to move. He sat blushing at her action, and all she did was smile.

"H-huh?!," he made out, but not before Gou pushed through the crowd, and wrapped her arms around Randy's shoulders, crying and hugging her tightly. Rin stepped away from the clearly delirious girl, giving her as much space as she so obviously needed.

"Ne, Randy-chan, why'd you have to drown?," Gou sobbed, clutching onto Randy for dear life.

Randy only laughed and said in a gritty voice, "I'm sorry for not taking the paper to the captain. I think that isn't going to come back."

"Better it than YOU!," Gou sobbed, her wails hear across the entirety of the pool.

This was when the captain decided it was best to end practice early. Mikoshiba forced the team to go change, while the Samezuka boys only murmurmed and leered at the two girls. The Iwatobi Swim Club stayed, all looking at Randy with relieved expressions.

"You can stay in the nurse's office for a few minutes, if you need to lie down," Mikoshiba said, staring down at the girl with a sad look on his face.

Randy shook her head. "No, I'm fine," she said in her oxygen-deprived voice. She really wasn't fine, but she knew that she could handle it.

"Riterri-san, are you sure that you're okay?," Makoto bent down on his knee and asked the girl in a calming voice.

She smiled softly. To show that she really was okay, she pinced his cheek and said, "Aw, aren't you a cutie?"

Everyone laughed at her random joke while Makoto just blushed, frozen by her touch. Even Haru smirked at the girl's nature, although he knew that she really couldn't be fine. Rin caught on as well, but he was starting to get really pissed at this girl! First, she outright FLIRTS with him, then TOUCHES him, and now she's just going to act as if nothing had happened?!

Makoto had offered his hand to the girl, and Randy grabbed it, trying to stand up but not succeeding.

"Ne, you're soaking wet, Randy-chan!," Gou said, her tears finally drying up.

"You are too," she shot back, gesturing to a now wet Gou. After Gou had held on to Randy, her clothes had become almost as wet as her friend's.

"Ew, we really need to change! Your clothes are dragging you down, Randy-chan!"

"How can they drag her down when she's barely wearing any?," Haru said. At this Makoto decided to interupt him loudly.

"Ne, Riterri-san! Why don't you and Gou change back into your school uniform? The locker room is in the back!"

"Ew, I'm not changing in the boys' locker room!," Gou shouted, feeling embarassed about this conversation.

"Eh? Why not?"

"Because all the boys here are PERVERTS!," Gou shouted, causing Makoto to step back with a sheepish expression.

"Sorry, I didn't consider your feelings...but look at Riterri-san, she's soaking wet!," Makoto gestured. Randy was clutching onto her arms, feeling less than fine at the moment.

At this, Haru took Rei's towel and handed it to the girl.

"Th-thanks, Haru," Randy said, now wrapping it around her.

"Ne, give some to me, too," Gou whined, wrapping the both of them in the towel.

After the girls stood there shivering for a bit, Rin rolled his eyes, and put his hands behind his head.

"...Tch. Mako. I'll bring the girls to the nurse's office."

"Eh?"

"There's a changing room there. It'll be away from all the boys. You guys can go change without me," Rin said, trying to make it seem like it was less of a big deal than it was.

After a moment, Makoto smiled at Rin's offer.

"That would be great, Rin! They need to be in front of the school in fifteen mintues, we have to leave soon!," he said, as if the two girls weren't even there. "Let's go change, guys!," he said, leading the way for the other boys to go.

Nagisa and Rei followed after him, while Haru stayed behind, staring at Rin for a moment before following the other boys.

"C'mon," Rin said as he led the way.

The nurse's office was closed. That is, until Rin decided to break in.

"Eh?! You're breaking in?!," Gou asked.

"Obviously," he said, smirking at her shocked face. He didn't look at Randy, because he could just FEEL her eyes boring into him. He didn't want to speak to her, actually. Not after her back from the dead flirting she did just a moment ago. But then again, he did want to know who the heck this 'Randy-chan' was.

Taking out a bobby pin, Rin opened the lock easily, and strode in as if he wasn't freaking trespassing. Turning on the lights, the three quickly adjusted to the light, and they sprung into action.

"Rin, give me my bag!," Gou said, snatching away her duffel. She walked into the bathroom and closed the door, leaving a wet Randy to awkwardly stand next to a shirtless Rin.

It was a moment before Randy decided to speak.

"So," she started, looking directly into his maroon colored eyes.

"...Yeah?"

"Kou calls you Rin? Is that your last name or…?"

"Huh? You mean she didn't tell you?," he asked, kind of disbelieving that after all of that, this girl didn't even know who the heck he was.

"No," she answered. Then lifting her eyebrow, she said with a smile in English, *"But she should've told me a long time ago."

* "...what the fuck?"

*"OH SHIT!," Randy shouted, her towel dropping to the floor as she jumped and clutched her chest in fright.

Rin stood there, gaping at the girl when Gou rushed out of the bathroom dressed back into her dry uniform.

"What happened?! What's wrong?!," Gou franatically asked, taking a second to notice that there was nothing remotely wrong at the given moment.

Randy stared at Rin as if he had shark teeth. Oh wait, he did.

*"You can speak ENGLISH?," she asked, cautiously stepping towards Rin.

Once again lifting an eyebrow, he smirked and said, *"Took you long enough."

She was about to say something back when Gou interrupted their foreign conversation.

"Erm, Randy? You can change out of your clothes, now," Gou said hesitantly, noticing her friend was red in the face.

As if Gou didn't even speak, Randy stepped toward the girl with a dangerous glint in her eye. She took Gou's shoulders, and stared deep into her crimson eyes.

"Oi, what are you doing to my sister?," Rin asked, getting more and more annoyed with this girl.

Randy froze, turning her face toward the boy. Rin would have laughed at her expression if he wasn't so fucking confused right now.

*"OH MY GOD," Randy exlaimed, backing away from them both. She raised an accusing finger and waved it between the two. "YOU GUYS ARE SIBLINGS?!"

Both Rin and Gou just gave Randy a look before they burst out laughing.

"Oh! Oh man, Gou! Where'd you find this girl?!," Rin asked between laughing, clutching his knees for support.

Once Gou had calmed down, she signaled to Randy.

"Rin, this is Riterri Rocker Randof, but call her Randy, for short! And Randy-chan," Gou said, signaling to Rin, "this is my brother, Matsuoka Rin!"

Randy and Rin now took the time to really look at each other. In Randy's eyes, Rin was so freaking hot that she had to look away in order to keep herself from exploding right then and there. To Rin, Randy seemed...well, he didn't know just yet. All he knew was that this foreign girl with the weird longass name decided to be his sister's friend. He could definitely tell that she was...eccentric, to say the least.

"...Interesting name you got there."

"Likewise, Rinrin."

Gou started laughing all over again while Rin only stood there, shocked.

"Oi, don't call me that!"

"Oh okay, RIN."

"Geez, don't call me by my first name like you know me!," he snapped, getting ready to give her the famous Matsuoka Glare if he had to.

"Why not, RIN?"

"Stop calling me by my first name!"

Annoyed, she finally got the courage to look at the boy again. Stepping closer to him, she got close enough to kiss him, if he leaned down enough. She glared at him in the eyes and said, "...Then make me."

Rin just looked shocked all over again, and Gou had to sit down on one of the chairs because she couldn't stop laughing.

"W-what's your problem?," he asked looking away from her.

Rolling her eyes, she lifted her bag from his arm. She had enough of this difficult, beautiful boy. She walked to the bathroom, slamming the door behind her.

This was when Gou finally composed herself and looked up at her brother, who couldn't stop glaring at the bathroom door. She couldn't believe how oblivious her brother was being! It was so obvious that Randy liked Rin, or was at least FLIRTING with him, and he didn't even seem to get it! That, or he pretended not to notice.

"Ne, Onii-chan."

"Hm?"

"Don't you think Randy-chan is pretty?," she asked innocently, even though she wanted a not so innocent answer.

"Huh?! How am I supposed to know that?!"

"Well you have EYES, don't you?"

"What the-hey, why are you asking me this anyway?," he asked, getting suspicious at his younger sister.

"Geez, you really are clueless, Onii-chan," Gou rolled her eyes at him and sighed.

"HUH?!"

They continued to argue when Randy opened the door and exited in her dry, schoolgirl uniform. They both looked at her, then each other, then at her again. Noticing their odd exchange, Randy lifted up her eyebrow in confusion. Before she could ask, Gou took Randy by the hand and announced their departure.

"Huh? You're leaving now?," Rin asked, instantly regretting asking the question.

"Eh? Does Onii-Chan actually WANT us to stay? Does Onii-Chan actually CARE about his sweet, lovable, younger, cuter-," Gou ranted, but was cut short by an annoyed Rin Matsuoka shooing them out.

"Alright, alright, geez! We gotta get out anyway, we're not even supposed to be here!"

"Oh, right! Because SOMEONE BROKE INTO THE NURSE'S OFFICE-!," Gou yelled as if to let someone 'accidently' hear her. Rin clamped her mouth shut, gritting his sharp teeth.

"Good-BYE, Gou," Rin said through clenched teeth, pointing down the hallway.

"Come on, Randy-chan, we don't need to be here any longer," Gou sniffed, tugging on Randy's arm.

Randy looked at Gou before looking back at Rin.

"Bye, Matsuoka," she said with a smirk, taking note that she didn't call him by his first name.

He gave her an unreadable look before rubbing his neck and turning away, mumbling.

"...Tch. Bye."

"Okay, time to go now! Onii-chan, you can see Randy-chan next week, alright? So quit looking so sad because she's leaving!"

"H-huh?! Who says I'm going to miss-"

"BYE, ONII-CHAN!," Gou waved at him, running down the hallway with a giggling Randy.

Rin stared at their retreating backs until they left the building. He sighed, rubbing his hand through his hair. He didn't know how he was going to survive HER for another week, or even for more weeks to come! All he knew was that, judging from the looks of things, she was going to be a real handful.

'...And a real distraction...'
