Let's see what Jacob has to say for himself, shall we?

:-D

Jacob POV

"You what?" Edward shrieks hysterically. He begins pacing in a tight circle, fisting his hair and mumbling incoherently.

His companions are watching us closely now, appearing ready to foolishly intervene should anything happen to their leader. I shake my head at them, warning them to stay where they are. It's bad enough dealing with Edward, let alone the rest of them. As Edward's little...episode winds down, I begin to explain my theory.

"This area, this...camp-site, is where my people gather to perform all our ceremonies, including the spirit travel ritual," I say slowly. Edward nods his head but I can still see the look of confusion in his eyes. "Travelling through time is not as simple for us as I may have led you to believe. We had the knowledge, yes, but it takes practice to perfect the ability."

"Great, so you practiced really hard and finally achieved your goal. That's fantastic, congratulations," he says impatiently. "What does this have to do with you bringing us to the future?"

"As I was saying, we had studied the information and practiced in our village before we made the trek to this site to make our first attempt," I continue, ignoring his rude interruption. "We thought we had it perfected, but the first time we tried, nothing happened...or so we thought."

I can vividly recall the looks on the faces of my father and the other elders when we had failed, a strange mixture of disappointment and smug satisfaction. Although they trusted me with this task, deep down they though my fathers belief was right.

That I was never going to be good enough to lead our tribe.

"What does that mean?" Edward asks. "What happened?"

"You happened," I reply. "You and your friends happened."

"So what you're saying is that during your failed attempt, we somehow managed to pass through instead?" he nods understandingly. "How is that possible?"

This is the question that I've asked myself since I realised that their camp-site was located on our sacred grounds. With the proof of my ability to not only move spirits through time, but to move actual people too, standing in front of me, I'm more confident than ever that I can save my tribe.

If only I knew exactly how this happened.

"Is anyone in your group of Quilute decent?" I ask curiously, hoping to confirm my theory that perhaps another Quilute with an undiscovered time travel ability is responsible.

"Ah...no, I don't think so," Edward replies, scratching the back of his neck. "The Quilute's have their own school out in La Push."

"Then I can't really explain how it happened," I shrug, defeated. "Only my people possess the ability."

"But what if they aren't the only people?" he asks thoughtfully. I raise my eyebrows at him questioningly. He just rolls his eyes back at me. "Just think about it. You said that you learnt about time travel from your descendant, Samuel, but did he ever say where he got his knowledge from?"

I consider what he's saying. Could Samuel have learnt about time travel from someone outside the tribe and incorporated it into our rituals? When he had shared his knowledge with us, time was of the essence. I hadn't thought to ask unnecessary questions when the future of our tribe was at stake.

"No, no he didn't," I admit sheepishly. Edward smiles triumphantly, as though he had just solved the greatest ever mystery.

"Don't you see?" he says excitedly. "Maybe this is all tied together. Maybe you're the one who teaches him about travelling through time."

"No, he is the one who taught me," I explain patiently. Clearly this boy is either very confused or he simply has not listened to a word I've said. It is irritating to think that I have wasted my time explaining to someone who obviously doesn't understand.

"In your original time-line, yes," Edward confirms. "But the minute he came back and shared his ability with you, he changed the future. Now you have this knowledge that you can pass down through the generations. By simply listening to Samuel, you've essentially given every future member of your tribe the ability to travel through time, and it is entirely possible that someone in my group will eventually learn that ability from someone in your own tribe."

Suddenly it all makes sense. Perhaps in his time, Samuel already knew this and that is why he came back to share this knowledge with our tribe, but that does not explain how an outsider, like Edward acquired this information.

"How do you know about this?" I ask curiously.

"Sci-fi channel," he shrugs, smiling.

I don't know who this person is, but I will forever be grateful to them.
