Chapter Fourteen

A month had passed sooner than Zondrea would have ever thought possible. Everything went by in what seemed like blurs, it was all very routine. Hunting, bonding, learning, and repeat. She was learning many new things, and even had to adjust herself to American standards, learning how to dress properly and casually, the currency differences, and she also was trying to learn to speak like the people of this century, occasionally she'd look confused or wrinkle her nose as she was taught new slang and language.

It was all very confusing.

Along with learning more basic things, she was educating herself on every single one of the family members. She had discovered many things, like how Edward was the first Carlisle had turned, or that Esme had attempted to commit suicide after losing her child, but even falling off a cliff couldn't defeat her beating heart and Carlisle had changed her before it could give out.

Zondrea was told the whole story of how Renesmee came to be, even getting the background of how Bella and Edward had met and the complexity of their relationship. Jacob was brought into the picture in this story and had stayed permanently ever since imprinting on Renesmee.

The child herself was so very interesting. Zondrea found herself bonding with her the most, the two of their personalities just seemed to click. Zondrea would tell Renesmee anything and everything she wanted to know, and in turn, Renesmee would use her power on Zondrea, always stunning the British girl with the vivid pictures.

It was so odd that a girl who was hardly six years in age, appeared to look sixteen and had the wisdom of someone in their late fifties. It was amazing, and staggering at the same time.

Besides Renesmee, Zondrea found herself spending a lot of time with Emmett. If anyone thought Renesmee and her clicked well, it was nothing compared to the two of them.

They were both so mischievous and sarcastic, always finding humor even in the toughest of situations. Zondrea loved his company and the constant joking, him always playing around and saying "Maybe I should have just ripped you apart that day." whenever she did something dumb or that would slightly irritate him.

Zondrea had to be careful, though. She clearly knew that Emmett had a mate, and that person was Rosalie, the most hostile of the family. She had been the only one to protest Zondrea's plans on become a permanent fixture to the family, saying that she was still a monster and could survive on her own. She even suggested sending Zondrea to Alaska to be with a different coven of their kind.

But, Emmett had been the one to calm the girl down and as he led her outside to talk, Zondrea couldn't help, but feel a stab of emotion in her heart. She didn't know if it was jealousy or pain of being rejected by Rosalie. She was hoping for the latter, because there was absolutely no one the first choice would turn out well.

Though, now, a month or so later, Zondrea was preparing herself for attending high school for her very first time since her life had started. She wasn't nervous, but she was excited, always asking Renesmee or Alice questions about it. They would happily answer, knowing that Zondrea had to appear as human as possible.

The only problem was that Zondrea's eyes had never taken to a change. They had stayed their ruby color, only darkening when she hadn't fed in a couple days, which hardly ever happened. She was always very careful with her diet.

Carlisle was still clueless to how and why they stayed that way, and could never come up with an answer. He had just sighed and ordered in so many pairs of colored contact lenses that Zondrea had no clue what to do with them all.

"You're going to have to be very careful to change them every two hours or so, because the venom in your eyes will dissolve them over time. And make sure no one sees you doing so." He warned and handed over a case of six pairs. Zondrea had sighed just thinking about how many they were bound to go through.

When she had tried to put the lenses if for a test run, she absolutely found herself hating them. They made her eyes a dark muddy brown, contrasting awfully with her red-brown curls. She was so used to seeing red, or in her human life, green, that it made her confused and frustrated.

Not only that, but it made it almost difficult to see. Of course, her eyesight was still much better than a normal humans, but the color was very distracting and she found herself focusing on it every now and then, and mentally told herself to just get used to it.

It was nearing seven in the morning when Renesmee showed up at the house, she had been staying with Bella and Edward in their cottage-like home a couple miles away.

"Just remember, no fast movements, no reading minds, change the contacts, and be friendly." Esme was reminding Zondrea as the Renesmee came to stand in the kitchen with the two.

Zondrea turned to Renesmee, worry clear in her eyes, despite the colored contacts. "Do I look like a regular human from this century?" Gesturing to her outfit black jeans, cream knit sweater and boots.

Renesmee gave a comforting smile, "Yes, you'd almost convince me."

Zondrea smiled at that, before a booming voice yelled, "High school is where dreams go to die!"

It was clearly Emmett and Zondrea found herself laughing at that before raising her voice slightly and saying, "Too bad all my dreams have already been killed long ago." There was sarcasm and a playfulness to her tone as she received a laugh in return.

"Just, be careful, girls." Esme said after a moment, patting Zondrea's shoulder comfortingly and handing over a silver key to one of the cars. Zondrea would be driving them to the school now, because it was much too suspicious to just show up without a car, so running was out. Though, the girl had never driven before coming here, she picked it up with ease, finding it almost relaxing.

So, she took the key from Esme with a smile, "Tell Edward and Bella I'll keep little Renesmee safe." Zondrea smirked, picking up a school bag from the table.

Esme laughed lightly, "I think they're almost hoping for the opposite." And then she was waving them off, telling them not to be late, like that was even possible.

The car they were using was Renesmee's dad's Volvo. It was silver and comfortable inside with a nice stereo system, not mention it was fast as well, also a bonus.

"Ready?" She asked, Renesmee, starting up the vehicle.

"I think I should be asking you the same thing." The little girl commented with a playful smile.

Zondrea smiled back, hoping that today wouldn't be a mistake, before pulling out of the long driveway.

(A/N : Alright, just a short chapter/filler and the next chapter should be much longer, more detailed, and fucking awesome. I'm gonna start all the 'drama' there and it should get better from there. So, review and enjoy. Probably be posting tomorrow or Sunday.)
