Chapter Fifteen

"Are you sure you can't see the red?" Zondrea asked Renesmee again, turning to the girl could get a better look at her eyes. Zondrea had only checked in the mirror a dozen times, but she had to be sure. Of course, she'd have to change them again within two hours or so.

Renesmee smirked, but looked anyways and nodded, "You're good, now let's hurry up or we'll be late." She insisted, getting out slowly from her side of the car and closing the door lightly while Zondrea did the exact same.

"C'mon, office is this way, we'll get your schedule and I'll show you to your first class." Renesmee said quietly as they walked up to one of the many small buildings that made up Forks high school.

Zondrea followed along, but she stared around her in amazement, the sounds of hearts beating and smell of human blood were making her senses go wild and they were oh, so distracting.

She noticed about everyone's eyes were on her, or at least all the students who were hanging around in the parking lot, chatting loudly to their friends.

A group of boys were staring at her in what seemed like awe and a separate group of girls seemed to be staring in envy, which caused Zondrea to smirk in a knowing manner, completely aware that her gait was smooth and elegant, not to mention her flawless features couldn't even be toned down by the dullness of the day.

"You're ridiculous." Renesmee muttered, but she was smiling anyways, seeming fully aware of why Zondrea seemed to be smirking.

They entered the office and claimed Zondrea's schedule with ease, though the secretary seemed obviously flustered by Zondrea and she figured it must be because of the amazement at how one family could have to so many flawless looking members.

Renesmee was mostly silent next to her, and Zondrea wasn't surprised. The girl was introverted and naturally quiet, she didn't like to speak much and that was fine with Zondrea, she was too busy observing everyone anyways as they walked to her first class.

She could tell that no one had been aware they'd be getting a new student today because everyone seemed surprised to see a new face when they were walking down the sidewalk. But, she took it all in with ease, loving the feeling of being around so many people again.

And she didn't once have a feeling of wanting to rip their throats out, which was good in Zondrea's book.

"This is you." Renesmee muttered quietly, gesturing to building six that some students were already filing into.

"Thanks, I'll see you at lunch, right?" Zondrea clarified.

"I'll be waiting." Renesmee confirmed, and then made a quick move, grabbing onto Zondrea's hand tightly and letting a picture come across her mind.

It was of the two of them, calm and relaxed as they had just finished hunting and were sitting on the edge of a cliff overlooking the ocean. It ran through Zondrea's mind and calmed any little nerve she had.

"Thanks." She whispered to the girl, before smirking and parting ways.

Zondrea didn't hesitate to walk into the classroom, though she knew every single student would be staring directly at her. But, instead of looking at her audience, she went straight to the teacher, handing him her sheet to be signed.

The older man just sighed a bit when she handed it over, viewing it quickly through his reading glasses, and then he looked up, mouth dropping open a bit. "You're the Cullens new kid, right?" He asked, not even seeming that surprised at her looks.

She smiled, flashing a set a perfect, white teeth. "Yes, that'd be correct." Zondrea was posing as Carlisle and Esme's new adoptive daughter.

"So, Zondrea, is it?" He asked, seeming a bit surprised at the vintage name.

She nodded again.

"Right, well, Zondrea, you can take any open seat. We've been studying Hamlet." He informed her before handing over a copy of the book.

She held back a sigh. She had read this book over twenty times in her life and had practically memorized every single line and studied the meaning to no end. It appeared that this literature class wouldn't be challenging whatsoever.

She walked away and towards the seats, scanning quickly to see what her best option was.

There was an open desk in the back, far away from any curious glances, but then there was another open one surround by a girl with skin problems and bright red hair, a boy with glasses who was furiously studying the page in front of him, and another girl with patted on make-up and a narrowed glance as she looked at Zondrea.

And, of course, Zondrea picked the second desk, deciding to sit beside all these kids instead of by herself.

"Hello," Zondrea greeted the red-head first, giving her a friendly smile as the girl looked up in complete surprise, obviously somewhat shocked that someone was talking to her.

"H-hi." She stuttered and Zondrea had an urge to roll her eyes. "You're new here, then?" She asked, seeming to gain composure from the curiosity that was obvious in her eyes.

"Yes, I just moved here a few weeks ago. I'm Zondrea." She introduced, smiling again and keeping any sort of annoyance out of her tone. She quickly studied the girl, taking in the nervous flighty glances, almost never making direct eye contact, and the way her heart was racing with something close to fear. Zondrea fought the urge to frown.

"Lucy," She said, introducing herself and attempting a quick smile.

The girl that had been previously glowering at Zondrea, now turned to face her with a very fake smirk, eyes speaking of complete mischief. "Zondrea? That's a weird name." She commented, holding a hand under her chin in false wonder.

"Yes, my parents were rather old-fashion." Zondrea answered, trying to keep her eyes from narrowing and keeping them wide and innocent looking.

"What happened to them?" The girl pushed, smile deepening as Zondrea realized she was trying to hit a sore spot.

But, Zondrea could easily retaliate, knowing that she had pushed all feelings of her old family far away and never tried to bring them up. "They died a long, long time." She answered, still keeping her calm easily.

Though, the other girl did falter, obviously she had been hoping for a better story, one that would probably involve Zondrea being unwanted and dropped off at some orphanage.

"Class," The teacher then announced, saving them from any more tense or awkward conversation.

The class was very boring in itself. Zondrea could easily recite Hamlet and explain any reasonings much better than their teacher. So, she zoned out slightly, of course still listening, but pushing the teachers voice to the back of her mind and focusing on the humans around her.

She wanted so badly to tune into one of their minds and see what teenagers these days thought like. It was aggravating and she was trying so hard to keep from getting annoyed.

But, she decided it'd be fair enough to dig through the smirking girls head. She wouldn't try to control it or anything, just listen in and see what she was thinking.

So, Zondrea envisioned that thin wire attaching herself to another being, and forced access into her brain, receiving any information the girl had…

But, it was completely anti-climatic. The girl's thoughts were not only petty, but very unoriginal. It was clear jealousy that made her hateful towards Zondrea, the girl obviously hated attention not being directed towards her.

Zondrea cut the wire just as the bell rang, resisting a disappointed sigh and gathering her things.

The rest of her classes went by in almost the same manner. In between on of the hours, though, she had to excuse herself to go to the bathroom because she could feel the color in her contacts thinning and disappearing.

She met up with Renesmee at lunch, and the two sat online, far away from any of the other students who were chattering and completely immersed in their own conversations. Zondrea picked at her apple, obviously having no appetite for it at all.

"What's wrong?" Renesmee asked quietly, ignoring the stares that Zondrea was causing just by simply being a new student.

"I just thought it'd be more exciting than this." She didn't look up as she spoke, continuing to focus in and out on the food in front of her, slightly narrowing her eyes to study the microscopic crumbs that littered her tray.

Renesmee surprised her by laughing. "It's high school, Zondrea. It's not supposed to be exciting."

Lunch passed by quickly enough, the two of them hardly talking because they were both engrossed in their own thoughts.

Zondrea only had two classes left, one being anatomy and the other being a history class. She was actually excited for both because she knew she'd excel in them.

But, when she walked into the room for her history class she'd not expect to be put in complete shock.

Sitting in one of the first row seats was a boy her age. He had a mess a shaggy, red-brown hair that sat on top of his head in a messy style and his facial features seemed to look elfish, with a little nose that was slightly upturned. He was built lean and tall, with long legs. And his eyes completely spelt trouble, but not only that, they were emerald green as well.

And, he completely resembled Zondrea's brother.

If she had a heart, it'd be racing by now. But, she was frozen for the moment and she could feel her eyes wide in shock. All of her sense heightened themselves to her hunting mode and she could suddenly feel everyone's heartbeat and sense the blood rushing through all their veins. The smell was completely unbearable. All so sweet and warm and inviting.

So, she did the only thing she could think to do.

She ran.

Of course, no one had seen her be there in the first place, so she took off at full speed, putting as much distance as possible between her and the boy that reminded her so much of her own brother.
