A/N:

I started writing this story before volume 15-16 came out, thus any new information revealed in those two volumes are not taken into consideration in the entirety of this fanfic.

Enjoy.

"Haaah..." a loud, exhausted sigh could be heard from a corner in the rundown tiny apartment. The room had no windows, nor a bed to lie down on, its walls had long since started rotting. All it had was a small table filled with everyday necessities such as clothes, toilet paper, and a toothbrush thrown into a large pile. However, there was one item that did not fit this miserable place, a chair equipped with the highest quality of modern commercial equipment, the newest technology the gaming industry came up with a little more than a decade ago, the Neutral Nano-Interface, which was responsible for the emergence of the new DMMO-RPG genre.

A balding man was sitting in the corner of the room, clutching his knees to his chest, rocking back and forth while mumbling something about his shitty superiors. His skin was sickly pale, with barely any muscles beneath them. He was visibly trembling, but whether from his endless anger or as a result of his body's cries for help would be difficult to tell. Probably both.

An alarm rang out from his phone, followed by the man's head suddenly jerking ninety degrees, towards the chair in the middle which was occupying more or less all the space in the miniature room. "It's time. No more than an hour left of YGGDRASIL, I guess I can finally end it all after midnight." As he was slowly standing up with trembling knees, he never stopped his endless ranting. "Fucking Momonga… I thought we were kindred spirits, brothers in arms, but no! He goes ahead and falls in love with a woman… And the worst part is, she accepted his feelings! Bah! Whatever. I can't bring myself to even care anymore. Have fun Momonga, just make sure you wear protection. Bringing innocent children into this hellhole of a world is… unforgivable."

Indeed, out of their glorious guild, Ainz Ooal Gown, Ulbert was the only active player left. Him and Momonga were often playing together as they were the last members still playing the game, when about a week ago Momonga didn't show up at the usual time to start grinding the guild's daily gold upkeep. Ulbert felt devastated, thinking he finally succumbed to the terrors awaiting them outside the relative safety of their homes, but no! He confessed his love after a lengthy decade of awkward crushing on the poor girl, and was accepted, as Momonga later cheerfully explained it to him. Ever since then, Ulbert lost his last hope, his last true friend in life. He quit his job four days ago, as he knew he would not go on any longer than the game's shutdown. Be it from malnutrition, sickness taking him or a meteor crushing him into a bloody pool, he didn't care what would end his agony-filled existence, just hoped that it would come soon and with as little pain as possible since he was determined that he will not take one more step outside his door ever again into the miserable world waiting for him outside.

He finally planted himself in the gaming machine and logged into YGGDRASIL. The usual sight of Nazarick's throne room welcomed him. He started walking up the stairs. "I might as well see how the view is from the throne. Momonga has been offline for the past six days, he wouldn't mind." As he got a good look of his surroundings, his eyes rested on the old, gentlemanly butler. "What was his name again? Sabas? He is the creation of him… the lucky cunt that won the lottery of being born into a wealthy and loving family. You have no idea how much I despise you, Touch Me."

He opened his inventory, and started searching through the numerous items within. "Ah, here it is. At least Momonga was nice enough to leave the staff with me. Maybe he knew I would want to have some fun in the last moments. It could be his way of apologizing. Whatever, all that matters is that I can have my revenge finally. Man, I am fucking pathetic…" As he was busy drowning himself in self-pity, he opened Sebas's backstory, which was possible thanks to having the guild staff in his possession. He sighed as he read through the butler's trivia. "Touch Me, you are such a bland and boring human being..." "He is the head butler of Nazarick." Can you get any more dull, you piece of shit? One line of text, is this the best you could come up with? I spent literal days researching, writing, editing and rewriting over and over Demiurge's backstory…"

The fact that Touch didn't even care enough to put more than a single sentence into his own character's background text angered Ulbert more than it arguably should've. He and all the other members took the role-playing aspect of the game at least somewhat seriously, while some of them, him included, was nigh religious about it. It was the defining trait of their guild, after all. They were the evil heteromorph organization that terrorized the server, at least that was how it was during the golden era of the guild. They even let Touch Me use so much of the guild's resources to build this level 100 NPC... While saying the two were enemies would be an overstatement, it would be correct to consider them rivals who kept bickering with each other to no end whenever they were together. As Ulbert's life was miserable outside of YGGDRASIL he may have taken this relationship a bit too seriously compared to Touch me, though he would never admit that.

A childish grin appeared on Ulbert's face. With the administrator privileges, he went into edit mode. After the single line of text stating that he was the headbutler of Nazarick, he added his own words to conclude his final masterful revenge against the successful family man. "His true self is that of a sadistic tormentor as nothing makes him happier, besides serving the greatest of The Supreme Ones, Ulbert Alain Odle, than to make those not under the protection of Nazarick feel helplessness and utter, complete despair. Whatever means necessary, he completes the tasks given to him by Ulbert Alain Odle and refuses to listen to Touch Me's commands."

A wolfish laughter left his mouth "Ahahaha! Take that, you bastard, this boring butler is now ruined! Zehahahaha!"

Yes, Ulbert was suffering from severe case of the chuunibyou disease.

Having his sweet revenge he quickly lost interest, and the bitterness of reality soon ruined his mood once again. "Let me see… 50 minutes remaining until the server closes. PvP is out of the question, I would not find anyone in such a short period of time in this dead game. Should I destroy the guild base of some low level noobs? Ehh… What's the point of that now? Roaming Nazarick is for the best. I shall take a tour through the tomb for the last time. Oh, I should finish the tour at the seventh floor to spend the last moments of my life with my creation. "

He spent 45 minutes roaming the various floors that his friends created, observing the intricate details of the decorations and NPCs present until he finally arrived to the seventh floor, which was mostly of his making. He was hit by the memories of building this place. He created rivers and lakes of lava, torture chambers, meteor craters and much more to give his masterpiece, the evil mastermind, Demiurge, a nice place of residence to plot his atrocious deeds. He quickly found the aforementioned arch-devil in his place of residence, the Blazing Palace. "Follow." was the only word he uttered, and the ever faithful guardian did as ordered.

Ulbert arrived at the throne room he created inside his temple, so that he could daydream of his creation playing the evil genius strategist. One of his favorite ways to pass the time during labor hours was to think up stories of how Demiurge would prey on his superiors with his supreme intellect and immense prowess. He placed himself in the throne made of several moving humanoid body parts put together in a grotesque manner. Ulbert felt extremely proud of the throne he created, he even managed to program some wailing sound effects to go with it. Most of his friends, who were also roleplaying as evil beings by the way, found him overly excessive, and Ulbert felt some may have even been scared of him, but they never dared to mention such a thing to him directly. Besides of course the unbearable Touch Me, who often criticized whatever he had done.

"Kneel." As the oral command left his avatar's inanimate lips, the dutiful devil did as told, bending his knees and planting his right hand on the ground. "It has been a wild ride, hasn't it, Demiurge? At least you stayed with me 'till the end, thanks for that." The NPC, of course, could not react to such complicated lines, so he stayed put. Ulbert's somber mood quickly turned even worse. "Haaah, look at me. Talking to some mishmash of code and pixels, I really am the lowest, huh. Whatever, a few more seconds and I can finally rest for eternity."

As he checked the User Interface, he could see the countdown ticking.

10 seconds left. Thanks for your continued support. We apologize that the journey ended in such a disappointing manner. - developers of YGGDRASIL.

"?!" A confused cry left Ulbert's lips. Instead of getting logged out of the game, and dragged back to the hellhole of his miserable room on Earth, he remained seated on the human remains throne. "Guess the devs failed to even do a shutdown properly, should've guessed." Just as he was bullying the incompetent game developers in his mind, something happened that definitely, most certainly, should not. A worried voice registered in his mind, not his own for once. "Ulbert-sama! Is something wrong?"

Ulbert looked towards the origins of the voice, it was the kneeling devil, who instead of looking at the ground seemed to be examining him instead. "Great, it is official, I am actually crazy. Maybe he was right all along…" The goat-lookalike demon quickly turned to self pity and blame as he so often did.

"My master, that is not true at all! You are the greatest mastermind of evil, The Great Demon of Disaster, and my greatest inspiration to better my humble ways of evil! You are a role model for us, the denizens of Nazarick! Please do not belittle your majestic self, Ulbert-sama." As the barrage of praise from the kneeling devil entered his conscience, emotions started to hit him hard.

"I don't think that I am so far gone, that my mind can create such a realistic response from Demiurge. Even his tail is wagging while complimenting me. Something definitely changed, as detailed mannerisms like that were not possible in the game. Did the shitty devs transport me into a sequel? But that should not be possible… I doubt those losers could make such a realistic sequel anyhow... However, how else can I explain the current situation?" A sudden realization hit him. His near dead heart started beating faster than ever before. "Don't tell me… I must find out, before I regain hope. I can't take any more disappointments, please..."

"Demiurge, there's something going on. We must find out what. I am going to ask you something unpleasant." His voice, unlike a minute ago, was deep, and had an unnerving, sinister echo to it. "Even that has changed… I sound much more similar to what one would expect from my avatar."

At the sudden exclamation, the devil stopped his seemingly endless bombardment of praise towards him and turned serious, "Yes, my master." was his only response.

"Make yourself bleed." The horrible command left the demon's mouth. In the game, wounds were not visible. Once you got damaged, and your health bar hit zero, you simply died and respawned, without any gore being visible. Even if this was a sequel, one that was the result of some unimaginable leaps in technological advancement, gore could not be shown in these games, as per government regulations. No CEO or shareholders would ever be willing to get fined for such a thing as making a game more enjoyable for the losers.

The devil's facial features did not change at all upon hearing such an order. "I hear and obey, my master." He lifted his right hand, which up until this moment was planted on the floor due to the kneel command from Ulbert, and pulled his immaculate dress up to his elbow so the skin on his hand was visible. With a fearless slash of his tail he cut off his own hand up to his elbow. The now unconnected limb fell to the ground with a loud thud as crimson liquid began streaming down, dirtying his immaculate suit, or at least that should've happened, but the magical nature of his gear prevented that outcome. Without a slight hint of pain or fear, or rather with clear and extreme fanaticism the devil was still holding up the remainder of his crippled arm to show the flow of blood as requested. "Was this lowly one able to fulfill your request adequately, Master?" He had a truly twisted smile on his face.

While this horrifying scene was taking place, the demon had a serious inner crisis going on. "What the fuck is happening?! Am I responsible for this?… Of course I am, how stupid can I be? I ordered him to harm himself just because I lack mental capacity. I could've just pinched my skin or something! Or make myself bleed at least. How atrocious…" However, while his human brain was having an existential crisis, a smooth, calm mindset took over almost instantly. Gone was the panicking. "This confirms it at least. The palace on the seventh floor, if not the whole of Nazarick, became real life, or something along those lines. Demiurge became a living, breathing, thinking creature, not just a mix of code. Thank you, God, or whoever saved me from the misery. If you are hearing me, please know that you have my everlasting gratitude. Well, that is, if what I think is going on is actually what's happening, and I am not strapped to some bed in a mental ward imagining all of this. Guess it is time to find out if that exists."

{Heal} The sixth tier spell incantation left his lips, his finger pointed towards Demiurge's wound. The chopped arm disintegrated, and a new one formed at its rightful place. "Master, there is no need for that! I, and all others are happy to bleed to our deaths if that makes you happy. Please order me to do anything, and it shall be done to the utmost of my lowly abilities!" Such a monologue should frighten a sane person, however, Ulbert felt an immense sense of power. Something started brewing inside his head, something uncontrollable and sinister. For some reason Demiurge's constant antics of belittling himself irritated him, it felt as though he himself was mocked.

"Demiurge, I am thankful for the display of your loyalty and ruthlessness. Though, please remind me who your creator is."

The archdevil's brain went into overdrive at the strange inquiry. "It is obvious, thus Ulbert-sama must be testing me somehow? But he just said he was pleased with me… No, such an act is nowhere near enough to show the degree of my loyalty towards the Master, of course he would not be satisfied. I am just a lowly devil, I can't even begin to grasp the genius of his mind. I should not try to understand the deeper meaning of his question, as it is a task which is impossible for anyone besides the Supreme Ones."

With a slight tremble in his voice, the devil sheepishly replied "You are, Ulbert-sama."

"Correct. When you say "my lowly abilities", what are you trying to suggest? That I created a failure? I've poured all I had into the path of evil, and you are the culmination of all my efforts. You are my magnum opus, my masterpiece. Are you insinuating that I failed at the goal I've been working towards for years? That is… displeasing."

The last of Ulbert's word was dripping with ferocious malice, resulting in the instant internal agonizing of Demiurge. "No! How could I be so careless?! I have unconsciously bad-mouthed my own creator!" A single drop of sweat formed on his head and trickled downwards. "His atmosphere… Truly… He is the greatest even among the Supreme Ones! He emphasized just one word, without moving a single finger he made me feel as if I was a powerless pig in a slaughterhouse, waiting for the mighty to decide my fate!"

With an audible nervousness in his voice, he began pleading. "No, master! I-" however, he was cut short when Ulbert lifted his palm to signal that he had heard enough.

"Enough, my creation. I know what you meant, I apologize for my outburst. It seems that we've gone through a large scale transportation of sorts, and it messed with my mental state. Leave me for a while, I need to gather my thoughts. Go and check on the Tomb, see if there is anything out of the ordinary. You still have control of your minions, right? Send them out on a scouting mission, see how the outside world looks. In the meantime, notify the floor guardians to fortify their floors for defense and gather in the throne room afterwards, besides Gargantua and Victim, those two should stay in their respective positions. Oh, and tell Sebas and the Pleiades maids to also be there. I shall come in two hours."

Happy to hear that he has not displeased his master irreversibly, Demiurge's agitated mood lifted, however, he was worried for his master's well-being. "Your wish is my command, Ulbert-sama. Please call me if I can be of any assistance, and I shall rush to your side." With that, the devil took some hurried steps backwards to the door, not daring to commit such disrespect as showing his back to his creator, and left Ulbert's vision.

A nervous chuckle left Ulbert's lips, he shifted in his seat. "Hah! He really is extreme, isn't he? Well, it looks like so am I… What is going on with me? He didn't even say anything bad, he just tried to be respectful, and I was ready to torment him! Just for saying something so random as "my lowly abilities'' or something! Damn, my emotional swings are crazy! And the worst is, I… kind of enjoyed… watching him tremble in fear. I must be careful moving onward, I shouldn't hurt those of Ainz Ooal Gown. If the others also transport and find out that I've been tormenting their creations… I would be crucified. I guess the only explanation for my behavior is that not only is my physical state that of a demon, but my mind also transformed. That would clarify why I don't feel suicidal anymore, nor regretful after hurting my own creation."

He stood up from the grotesque throne, and flexed his muscles, raw power exploding through his veins. "I also feel that I am stronger physically, incredibly so. So many things I need to confirm… Where to begin? Magic, of course! Thanks to Demiurge's little demonstration I know that I can cast the healing spell of the 6th tier. What about destruction magic, the undisputed best school of magic?

With confident steps, he left the palace and headed towards a lava lake. "{Fly}". His feet left the ground, floating towards the top of the seventh floor. "ohmygodiamfuckingflying" was all that went through the head of the goat lookalike demon at that moment. Instead of being calmed down by some supernatural force, like how Momonga's undead avatar might work if he were also here, Ulbert's excitement grew to new heights as he began incanting. "Time has come for destruction! Crush my enemies and clear my path towards domination! {Meteor Swarm}!"

As he finished casting this tenth tier spell, adorned with the unnecessary extra flavor, multiple chunks of blazing meteors appeared above the lake of brewing lava, descending with fervent speed. They collided with the ground resulting in the entire surface area beginning to shake as lava spilled out of the lake, engulfing its surroundings. Lava formed enormous waves which crashed into the rocky land under Ulbert and began melting it away, soon becoming part of the fiery lake.

A grin that would make any mortal faint appeared on his face. The entire tomb could feel the wicked presence that was their master as he let out his otherworldly, demonic laughter.

This moment marks the arrival of the one true predator, The World Disaster, Ulbert Alain Odle.

A/N:

I've been notified by some of my readers that they don't appreciate Sebas's change. In my opinion changing Sebas fits this fanfic's Ulbert, who is a slightly different man from the one you know in canon since he didn't quit YGGDRASIL and kept on playing until the end. He was there when all his comrades left the guild to pursue other, more enjoyable things in life.

As far as I'm aware Ulbert stopped playing the game in the canon story years ago, so his resentment towards Touch-me grew a bit more than it was shown in the LN as he spent those years grinding the upkeep of their dying guild in a dying game while Touch-Me led a successful business and family life. Over these years he became more jealous of the man than what was depicted in canon, which is my interpretation of how Ulbert's personality would've developed if he never stopped playing.

If Sebas's change bothers you, I would recommend that you give a try to the following chapters. While the headbutler's lore change will be explored, they won't be story defining components (what I mean with that is that they won't be as integral parts to the storyline as Momonga's lack of leadership experience or his extreme luck are defining factors of the canon story). Though of course, feel free to stop reading.
