In tales of old, Hyrule was been under the constant shadow of a being of pure evil known as "the Calamity" Ganon. About 100 years ago, it was upon myself, the Princess of Hyrule's royal family, and the assembled Champions of the varying races across the land to put down the malevolent force. Among my father's appointed Champions was the Goron, Daruk, the Rito archer, Revali, the Queen of Gerudo, Urbossa, the Zora princess, Mipha, and "the one" to wield the evil banishing Master Sword, Link. However, where they were all capable warriors and means of support for me, I could not find the strength to awaken the power needed to seal away the Calamity….leading to my people and the land of Hyrule suffering for a century. Even though my homeland was able to recover, I spent that same century imprisoned within Hyrule Castle to keep the Calamity's core from spreading further destruction…hoping for no more suffering.

Fortunately, not all of my former allies had lost their lives because of my negligence. The swordsman Link, my appointed bodyguard, was able to recover, rebuild his strength of old and was able to free not just the Sheikah tech we unearthed, but the souls of our fallen friends and ended Calamity Ganon's rampage. What has happened since then? Now that we were freed from our duties as protectors of the land? Well…a lot has changed…and Hyrule is on its way to reclaiming its former glory.

The Legend of Zelda: Champions of Chronos

~ Chapter 01: Peaceful Times With A Child ~

Hateno Village | Eastern Necluda

Since the day that the century long Calamity ended, I have spent my time remaining by the side of Princess Zelda as I was assigned to by her late father, King Rhoam. In that time, we have begun working with the rest of Hyrule's people to begin rebuilding and mending the damage left behind by Calamity Ganon. We also were fortunate enough to be gifted a home of our own, treating it mostly as our base of operations, by the hard workers of Hudson Construction claiming it to be the start of their "Dream Home Program". Those who knew of it sometimes refer to it as "Zelda's Love Nest" as I have heard some of our neighbors believe the two of us to be a married couple when out and about. It does not seem to mind the princess, though, it makes me uncomfortable from time to time. However, I could not ignore the strange feeling that erupted from my heart once I recovered my memories. To me, Zelda became more than the King's daughter, but as someone I wanted to protect even if I wasn't her bodyguard. It also was possibly due to my want to comfort Zelda having lost her family before and during the crisis. It was also thanks to me that, after some thorough thinking, the princess decided to cut her blonde hair shorter so it was roughly shoulder length.

In our newfound peace, we also took in an orphaned green haired girl who mysteriously appeared by the outskirts of Hateno Village. She had nowhere to go and, like me, did not even know who she was aside from her name. Zelda then made it one of her top priorities to care for the lost Hylian child, whom we learned was named "Saria", as a parental figure alongside myself. And while it might have been hit or miss a few times, I have grown accustomed to watching over them both. On a sunny day like today, the two are usually seen by the tree near our front yard, reading books or Zelda giving miniature teachings to Saria. During this time, I found myself either training nearby or resting against the base of our chimney watching them. One of Saria's favorite stories was, ironically, a retelling of my travels across Hyrule to defeat Calamity Ganon and I have Purah to thank for that.

"Hee hee. No matter how many times I hear this story, I never get tired of it. You're HEROES, mama Zelda!" Saria proclaimed. Zelda lightly blushed, eyes looking away.

"Well…I wouldn't…say that. Link did do most of the hard work. I was nothing but a hindrance to those around me." she said while observing me nearby. Sensing her gaze, I looked back. My heart sank everytime I had to hear Zelda reminisce on her past mistakes despite how hard I tried to help her move on. Luckily, things have been looking up since we moved to Hateno.

"I don't think that, mama. I hear most of the other villagers talking about…how much they love you…and are thankful for what you do. That's why I said you were both heroes." Saria said. Zelda briefly gasped as tears soon came to the corner of her eyes. She sniffled before wiping them away.

"Thank you…Saria. We're truly lucky to have met a sweet girl like you." she replied, gently rubbing her head. Saria's smile grew bigger as she snuggled up closer to her, situating herself in her lap.

"Does that mean….you're okay with me calling you "mama" and "papa"?" she asked. I still hadn't gotten used to those "titles" and wound up trying to hide my embarrassed face by looking away. But Zelda had gotten used to this behavior and chuckled after eyeing my red ears.

"I am….but I'm NOT SURE about your "papa". He's…going to need more time to get used to being called anyone's "papa"." Zelda teased, whispering in Saria's ear. I merely huffed and crossed my arms as they both laughed. The sound of the wind rustling the grass followed shortly after and Saria asked to play with the other children. Zelda allowed it, stepping aside to let her go before joining me at my side. I only became more red when I felt the princess' body leaning against my right side, setting my arms back down. I lightly glimpsed her way, our eyes soon meeting.

"I guess I know how my mother felt…when she had me. Heh. Saria has become so much like a daughter to me over this past year." she said "What about you, Link?" I remained silent, unable to find the words to reply with. But the princess knew how awkward I was with words, telling me it was okay if I remained quiet. I then felt her place her hand over mine. Since the ending of the Calamity, Impa had gifted us a pair of rings that were once owned by Zelda's late parents, telling us to think of them not as "wedding presents" but more as a sign of our trust in one another. It helped remind her on multiple instances that, despite what happened or what would come in the future, she was never alone. We wore each ring on our opposite hand. Zelda then looked down at our hands before slowly interlocking fingers with mine.

"Before I met you…I never would have imagined myself…falling in love with anyone as much as my love for researching the past of Hyrule and the Sheikah technology they left behind. But now, you have become part of the many things I've come to cherish most." she said softly "Don't ever forget that, Link…okay?" I merely smiled and nodded back, my way of showing her I felt the same. In the window by our front door, the wind gently blew a vase of Silent Princess flowers, causing the petals to touch. All fell silent again as I remained still, allowing Zelda to slowly drift to sleep at my side. It seemed the calming atmosphere slowly lulled her eyes closed. But that peace was soon disturbed when we heard the sounds of large wings flapping loudly. We looked to the skies and saw a teenage Tulin, the son of Elder Teba of the Rito tribe, descending down towards us.

"I-Is that…Tulin?" Zelda asked. We both stood up just as Tulin touched down, stopping for a moment to rest his wings. He then turned his attention to the two of us.

"L-Link! Princess Zelda! I'm so glad I found you! I…I almost forgot which way you lived!" he exclaimed, still panting inbetween words. I moved to support the Rito's side.

"Calm down, Tulin! You must be exhausted. D-Did you fly here all the way from Rito Village?" she asked.

"N-No! No! I was…visiting the Hyrule Restoration Square, on an errand for my pops, b-before this HUGE SWARM of monsters came upon the square!" he explained, flapping his arms to exaggerate the size of monsters. We both gasped simultaneously.

"Monsters? Attacking the Restoration Headquarters? THAT many?!" Zelda asked, eyes brimming with worry. Tulin then reached beneath his tunic to pull something out and handed it to me. It was another piece of Sheikah tech that Zelda recently unearthed when researching with Purah following the Calamity. It was small in size, appearing as a large metalic coin with the Sheikah eye in the center. According to their research, this was a device meant for transmitting messages one way, like a carrier pigeon, or by communicating between one another with projections. It was flashing, meaning it had a recorded message. I quickly pressed the Sheikah eye symbol, hearing a beep, before it projected a full body recording of Purah. Unlike how I last saw her at the Sheikah Tech Lab prior, she had successfully managed to regain a younger appearance and was now roughly the same height as Zelda. Panic was visably plastered all over her face as the recording played.

Y-Your Highness! Linky! If you get this message, you gotta hurry over here! The Hyrule Restoration Square just…I dunno how…suddenly came under attack by a WAVE of monsters! They're the same ones that used to flood Hyrule when the Calamity ran rampant! T-They're trying to break through and invade the square! All nearby soldiers have abandoned their usual routes and are rushing here to repel the invaders! But…we NEED Link and his sword! D-Do you think you can spare some time to send "Mr. Hero" my way?! Before I end up on a Bokoblin's skewer?!

The feed soon ended, our attention turned fully on Tulin.

"She's not exaggerating! I must've saw a horde rivalring the Hyrulian army when I flew from the nearby Tower to get here! They can't have much time left!" he continued. In no time, my sense of duty fully took over my thoughts as I rushed back into our house. I raced upstairs and quickly armed myself with the sheathed Master Sword and my Hylian Shield, latching them over my tunic, before hurrying back outside.

"Link! I'll go into town and make sure Saria gets back home safely! You go on ahead and support Purah and the soldiers! I'll come your way as soon as I can! Keep that transmitter with you to give me updates! I have one in my study!" Zelda proclaimed. I nodded before hurrying around back. Tulin and the princess then heard the sound of a motor revving loudly before, racing past, was myself riding atop the Master Cycle, a smaller mech similar to the Divine Beasts gifted to me by a Sheikah elder. I used it to quickly clear the gap that was Hateno River before swerving towards the city gates. I had no time to bee line for the nearby stable where my steed, Epona, was being cared for. I was worried that I wouldn't have the time to reach Hyrule Fields if I rode her, not wanting to put stress on her muscles. Little to my knowledge, Tulin had begun following behind me right after I left, keeping up with the power put out by the Cycle. I was able to avoid any citizens as I made haste, passing by an unsuspecting Saria who was playing with her friends near the Hateno School, overseen by a pair of reformed Guardian mechs.
