Heading Homeward

He stood there, soaking wet from the rain for about five minutes. Then I broke the silence between us.

"What are you doing here?" my voice went a bit high on the last word.

"I'm coming with you. I can't imagine a single moment without you, Renesmee." His voice was soft.

But my dad just had to interrupt the sweet moment we were sharing.

"Chris. What's with the suitcase?" Dad asked. Then I thought about when he told me he was coming with us.

"Oh." That was all my dad could say.

"Yeah, I really don't give a crap about what my mum and dad think about me going halfway across the world, they'd say no. then I'd tell them it's for Renesmee, they'd still tell me no. I know them that well. So I'm coming, if that is okay with you Edward…" Chris replied. I simply burst out laughing.

I ran upstairs to pack my things into a suitcase. I needed a toothbrush, hairbrush, make-up, clothes, PJ's… the list went on.

I walked back down to see Dad on the phone with Chris beside him, I wondered what was going on, and so I asked Mum.

"Mum? What's dad doing?"

"Oh, Chris' mum phoned because she noticed he'd disappeared, and your dad is convincing her that we'll be there for only 5 days. Not long enough for her to miss him." And she laughed her musical laugh. I couldn't help but join in, but mine was about an octave higher so we were laughing in total harmony.

Chris ran over to me as soon as my dad had finished on the phone and hugged me so tight, and then he smiled his cute smile. The smile I learned to fall in love with.

"Get a room!" Mum mocked me, how dare she do that! That's my thing! And Dad burst out laughing.

"What? What's so funny?" Mum frowned. Dad told her and once again there was harmonious laughing coming from the kitchen.
