Feel the Rush

Chapter 2

Callen was sitting at his desk, doing some paperwork which he finally got around to doing, after much hassling from Hetty. "God I hate paperwork! Chasing bad guys is better than doing this!" moaned Callen.

"Maybe so Mr Callen, but you have been putting off doing your paperwork for two weeks now so your desk is starting to look like Mount Everest without snow on top of it instead it's your paperwork!" Hetty replied.

Kensi walked in munching on a donut. She looked at Callen and saw the mountain of paperwork he was doing and laughed. "I told you, it's so much easier to do the files as soon as you need to instead of putting it off!"

"Yeah, I'll give you 50 bucks if you'll do mine for me?" Callen asked innocently.

"Hah, not a chance! Where are the other two do you know?" asked Kensi.

"Sam texted me, said he was going for a run this morning but as for Deeks I don't know. How about you?"

"Deeks texted me too, said he was going for surf. I guess they'll be here soon"

Sam whipped out his phone from his pocket and called OSP. Eric was up in the tech room when the call from Sam came through.

"Eric! I need an ambulance at Malibu Surf Riders Beach. And I need Callen here to back me up." Sam shouted into the phone.

"Whoa, Sam what's happened? You okay?" Eric asked, while Nell started organising the requests.

"Deeks is injured and unconscious; six guys started beating him up, knocking him out with weapons when he left the water. I managed to fight them off and am currently sitting on top of one, holding him down so yeah I need some help!" Sam replied.

Eric raced downstairs to the bullpen. "Guys that was Sam. He's at Malibu Surf Riders Beach, Deeks is injured and unconscious. A gang of six beat him up as he left the surf. Sam's taken one of the guy's prisoner – well he's sitting on him and needs you to back him up Callen. I've called an ambulance for Deeks too".

Callen grabbed his car keys. "Tell Sam I'm on my way".

"Wait Callen I'm coming with you!" said Kensi, grabbing her jacket of the chair.

Callen and Kensi arrived at the beach fifteen minutes later. Racing down the path they saw Sam still sitting on the prisoner, with Deeks out cold next to him.

"Deeks! Oh my God, Deeks!" Kensi yelled.

She fell to her knees next to Deeks, "Deeks, wake up its Kensi, I'm here. Deeks!"

"Nice cuffs" Callen said, admiring Sam's handiwork with the ankle strap. "Here are some proper ones though"

Sam wrestled the prisoner's arms behind him and placed the new cuffs on him tightly.

Small moans started coming from Deeks. "Deeks, its okay it's Kensi" Kensi soothed.

Slowly Deeks opened his eyes and saw his partner beside him. "Ow, what just happened?" he groaned, rubbing the back of his head.

"You were beaten up by this guy and his buddies. Take a look at him – do you recognise him?" Sam asked.

"No, but I think I'm still a bit out of it. I feel a headache the size of Hetty coming on" said Deeks.

"Ambulance is here Deeks. Off to the hospital with you to get that head of yours checked out" said Kensi.

"No hospital. I'm fine…" Deeks said trying to stand up, but immediately felt dizzy and laid back on the sand. "Whoa, is the earth spinning extra fast?"

"Deeks, you were knocked out unconscious. You are going to the hospital and I'm going to make sure you do because I'm going with you!" Kensi argued. Looking at the daggers Kensi was giving Deeks he knew that this battle was one he was going to lose. "You can't make me…" he countered, knowing Kensi Blye was not one to be told otherwise. "Crap…. I guess we're going to the hospital then" sighed Deeks.

"We'll take this guy to the boatshed. See if we can get anything out of him" said Callen. "Keep us posted on Deeks, Kensi".

"Will do" nodded Kensi.

Kensi waited outside in the hallway as Deeks was taken to get scans and x-rays done on his head, brain and body. She remembered the last time Deeks ended up in hospital with two gunshots to his chest courtesy of two guns-for-hire last year. Although the bullets came from a low calibre weapon and Deeks pulled through fine, seeing her partner injured and in pain was tough. She knew she cared a lot about Deeks, but now she realised just how much the depth of her feelings for him were. "What are my feelings for him?" Kensi wondered. "I mean I did kiss him on that undercover married op and covered it up by insisting it was an undercover kiss, but was there more to it? Did I do that because I wanted to kiss him?"

Kensi's thoughts were interrupted by the doctor coming down the hall with Deeks in a wheelchair beside him. The doctor wheeled him into a private room so Kensi followed them in.

"Hello doctor, I'm Marty Deeks' partner. How is he?" asked Kensi.

"Mr Deeks has a nasty bump on his head and concussion and bruising on his kidneys and the rest of his upper body. His brain scans are clear, which is a good thing and I think it best he stay overnight to be sure he has no seizures or dizzy spells. I am certain though he will make a full recovery." Doctor Wills said.

"Okay thank you Doctor. I'll make sure he behaves", answered Kensi.

"Good he's gone. Let's get out of here. I've got to feed and walk Monty" Deeks whispered.

"Really Deeks? You want to try leaving? Because I'm thinking the doctor was wrong and there is no brain in your head!" "I can feed and walk Monty for you".

Deeks put on his best sad face to Kensi. Kensi though was having none of it. "Oh come on! Only Monty can get away with a sad face" as she pulled out her ringing phone from her pocket.

"Hey Kensi, how's shaggy?" Sam asked.

Kensi smiled. "He's okay. The doctor said he has a nasty bump on his head and concussion and bruises to his kidneys and chest. His scans were all clear but they want to keep him overnight to make sure he has no seizures or dizzy spells, but hero-man wants to go home".

"Put him on the phone Kens"….. "Deeks, you will stay in overnight or I will come there and handcuff you to the bed myself and you do not want to make me come there, got it?" Sam growled. There was silence from Deeks as he listened to the warning from Sam.

"I think he got it Sam" Kensi laughed, taking the phone back from Deeks. "Anything from our prisoner?"

"Not yet. He's not saying a word. Eric's running his picture through the facial recognition program; so far we don't think he's American but maybe Hispanic or South American. He is either military or police or something from his attitude. I know from fighting him on the beach he has martial arts training. Hopefully Deeks can shed some light on things."

"Could it be LAPD related Sam?"

"Maybe. Hetty's contacting LAPD now. See if Deeks can tell you anything"

"Okay I'll let you know" replied Kensi.

"Deeks, can you tell me what you know?"

"I was doing an undercover op for LAPD. We have intel that a corrupt marine sergeant was using police and security in Nicaragua is shipping pharmaceuticals and narcotics out of the country illegally. I was mainly watching the police and security."

"Where was the cargo going?" asked Kensi.

"Afghanistan. We found that the corrupt marine sergeant is importing the stuff for the soldiers under his command to use. We're talking uppers, sleeping tablets, narcotics everything. Ask Aiden Foley at LAPD to send through the video we found of the soldiers using the drugs and then going out on patrol. It'll blow your mind."

"Deeks why didn't you tell us you had this undercover op?

"At first we just thought it was confined to LAPD and security, but after much digging we found the military sergeant involved. The thing is we were going to ask NCIS for help today and then I got whacked this morning".

"So our prisoner is who?" Kensi asked.

"I'm not sure. But I am sure I know him from something. I just have to remember what it is" replied Deeks.
