Chapter 6
Sam and Callen landed in the hot, dusty country of Afghanistan quite a few hours later. They were given details of where Sergeant Crotrill and his troops were stationed at a troubled hotspot for the war near Kabul. It was never a nice place to visit and the war had made it even worse but the two agents were definitely not on a sight-seeing visit anyway but were here to make an arrest of the sergeant and his troops. They found Platoon 9 soon after and witnessed for themselves the reactions of the soldiers who were highly drugged on arrival at their base camp. Sergeant Crotrill was none too pleased to see Sam and Callen and told them so in no uncertain terms.
"Federal agents! NCIS! Sergeant Boyden Crotrill, you are under arrest. We have orders from SecNav to bring you and your troops back from Afghanistan to Los Angeles to face criminal charges in relation to the supply of illegal narcotics to your troops and possible treason in colluding with a Nicaraguan drug cartel to supply you with those narcotics. Anything you want to say sergeant?" Sam said giving the corrupt sergeant the meanest and dirtiest of looks.
"This is a war isn't it? I looked after my troops to help them in the fight, there is nothing wrong in using what's available to get another edge over the enemy, I stand by helping them win that war anyway they can", Sergeant Crotrill replied, "You ever been in war son?" taunting Sam.
"Matter of fact I have Sergeant. I have seen things I never want to see again. I still see images in my dreams at night that I never want to see. I have lost good friends I know I am never going to get to have a beer with again. That still doesn't give you the right to go supplying drugs to soldiers under your command and brainwashing them into thinking they are invincible against a highly dangerous enemy who can kill with road-side bombs, landmines and have no problem shooting you in the back. So here we are, saving your troops from your stupidity and bringing you all back to the United States right now" Sam snarled wrapping the sergeant's hands behind his back.
"You're making a big mistake Agent. I'm the best leader stationed here in Afghanistan; many soldiers will now die because you are arresting me for giving out a few pills? Laughable!"
"If you're the best leader the defence force has, then the defence force is in BIG trouble Crotrill. Move it!" Callen pushed the Sergeant to the waiting car, to take them all back to LA.
Back at the OSP centre in Los Angeles, Hetty had managed to place an order for Senator Kiddle's arrest for interrogation at the boatshed. It hadn't been easy, red tape and pressure from within the government threatened to whitewash the plan even before it could get started. With reluctant help from Leon Vance and a few angry phone calls to various contacts somehow Hetty pulled it off. Many people had found out the hard way that though small in stature, Hetty Lange was one tough cookie and had been involved in undercover work and dealt with many criminals over a very long and distinguished career and she was not a person to underestimate and if you did? Well you would soon learn you made one hell of a mistake.
In the tech room, Nell and Eric were updating Deeks and Kensi about the Nicaraguan cartel and the Conquers of Encephalon.
"It seems the Encephalon group was started by Sergeant Crotrill two years ago. It started being about using the power of your mind to believe you can turn any situation, deadly or not into your advantage just by making your mind believe it. By adding the illegal drugs to the cause, Crotrill felt they added more to the advantage giving a person a certain sense of strength especially at war." Nell said.
"The drug cartel is a known group called ah…my Spanish is a little rusty. Kensi?" Eric blushed as he put the name up on screen.
"La guerra es mi amigo" "War is my friend" Kensi translated.
"Oooh I love it when you talk sexy Kensi" Deeks smirked at her.
Kensi rolled her eyes, "If you think that sounded sexy Deeks, can you imagine what I would say when I was in bed with someone hot, good looking, manly?" Kensi teased.
Deeks gulped, "Is that an offer Kensi? Because I'm offering really anytime at all".
"You did hear I said hot, good looking and manly didn't you?"
"That's me all wrapped up in the one package Kensi"
"Yeah right" Kensi scoffed. "Can we continue with the case now?"
Hetty came into the tech room, looking worn out from the phone calls to the bureaucrats "Senator Kiddle has just arrived in LA. He's none too happy mind you but I have placed him at the boatshed ready for interrogation from you Mr Deeks and Miss Blye. Watch your step though, him being a politician is likely to place us in the line of fire for harassment and litigation which I don't want or need. Do I make myself clear?"
"Got it Hetty. We'll take it slow" Kensi assured her. She turned to her partner, "Let's go Mr Chippendale".
"Hey! I'm waay better than a Chippendale, if you still want to take up my offer you would find out that's true, Kensi? Kensi?"
