After the last two days of marathon feeding and sex with her wife, Bo felt peppy. She used to make fun of people for being peppy, but that was exactly how she felt now: peppy. There was nothing like great sex with a beautiful woman you loved to recharge the batteries, especially when that woman was Lauren.
Lauren had no idea how good she was in bed, regardless if she was using her hands, mouth, or any number of those toys in Bo's bedside chest. Even though Lauren seemed uncomfortable with the strapon at first, she was true to her insatiable curiosity and learned extremely fast. She was actually better with a fake one than most of the men Bo had slept with, and those were attached permanently. She would never tell Dyson, but Lauren had actually become better than he was with his wolf junk, and he was well travelled, as Lauren would say. Bo admitted she liked the options that Lauren gave her. The problem was usually choosing exactly which option she would want because they had all become so deliciously amazing. Accidental or no, Bo had definitely chosen the perfect mate for her, and she was not afraid to let her wife know that. If only she could get Lauren to be a little more adventurous in her sexual needs so that Bo could show her just how amazing she made her feel. Bo couldn't fault her wife, though, because intimate touching was probably her favorite, too.
Her wife really had no idea how amazing she was. Bo recognized the natural magnetism that Lauren emitted. She couldn't understand why anyone would ever want to leave the woman.
When Lauren had mentioned Nadia said she wouldn't try anything but did admit to still liking her, Bo was only pouty for a little while. Lauren's Dyson argument came to her mind. They had remained friends after they stopped dating, and that was only a few months after the relationship ended. Surely Bo could learn to curb her jealousy and territorialism around Nadia, since that relationship had ended ten years ago. Her wife did need more friends outside of Bo's immediate circle, and Nadia did seem to be nice the few times they were around each other. Still, even Lauren mentioned they should never let their guard down around anyone, especially now with the baby. If Lauren was being cautious, then Bo felt warranted for her own overcautious and overprotective reaction to the woman.
What made Bo really laugh was Kenzi's reaction to Nadia. She was jealous, too, but it was more because Lauren was spending so much time with somebody else. It reminded Bo a little of when her mother first appeared as Saskia, and her best friend was afraid she was being replaced and forgotten. It was funny to think that this was the same person who had been super cautious of Lauren at the beginning. Kenzi and Lauren's close friendship was definitely a welcome surprise.
Kenzi had spent lunch with Nadia and Lauren the other day but didn't really report anything that Bo didn't already know. Basically, Nadia was into Lauren big time, and Lauren was aware and polite about ignoring and deflecting any flirtation. If that report didn't make Bo feel better about the situation, then the intense sexual come hitherance of her wife since her return was enough to make her believe. Bo loved that Lauren was willing to give her everything she needed in the bedroom and out. She couldn't imagine it would be easy for the usually vanilla doctor to explore things sexually like she did with Bo's succubus and naturally sexually curious natures.
There are a lot of ways to please a woman, and Lauren had no trouble learning every one of them. Bo didn't mind being on the receiving end of that insatiable curiosity, either.
Right now, Bo was out shopping for more professional attire. Dyson had returned from his trip in her absence and had jumped back into work. He seemed better, and for that, she was grateful. Bo hated seeing her friend suffer. What she hated more was that the undercover job she was helping him with now required her to teach high school English literature. Reading was more her wife's strong suit, so she begged Dyson to let her convince the Ash and Morrigan to give the doctor leave to go undercover as a teacher instead of her. Bo knew they would never give her leave from her doctorly work, and Lauren chuckled at the idea before she agreed to help with lesson plans and grading.
Plus, there was something about the way Lauren's eyes lit up when she found out Bo would be posing as a teacher. It was rare that Lauren would voice her fantasies, but Bo didn't really need that one voiced when she sensed the spike in her wife's energy at the mere mention of her becoming a school teacher.
Bo was happy that her shopping trip was not that difficult. She managed to find business suits and dress shirts that still allowed her to show off her assets. Even though it may cause tons of ogling in the teenagers, Bo was not embarrassed to admit she did it more for her wife and the potentiality of getting laid again. As a succubus in love with a human, Bo knew that a lot of what she did was for the potentiality of getting laid again by said human. It was one reason why she had inserted a hidden post-it note with a sexy message in Lauren's lunch she packed for her wife today, even though Gram always made lunch at the farm.
The funny part about this new mission was that Kenzi had finally agreed to go undercover as a student. The young girl took a lot longer for Dyson to convince, since Kenzi mentioned she didn't want to be a clichéd teen mom. Lauren and Gram agreed to watch Alexie, Dyson begged with his wolfy sex eyes, and Bo bribed her with the promise of paying off those boots she had on layaway, which was the final item she picked up today on her shopping extravaganza.
Now, she was ready to get home. The promise of Lauren's chicken cacciatore was calling to her.
They had an appointment next week for another ultrasound. This time, they were going to learn the baby's sex. Bo found herself more fidgety than usual. She couldn't decide what she hoped it would be. What worried her was what it would be and what would happen once it was born. She no longer felt bad for bringing a baby into the world, knowing it was going to have a hard time because of who and what its parents were. No, Bo was only focused on how much she was going to love that child no matter what: fae, human, hybrid, boy, girl. She didn't care.
Lauren was even starting to show a little, even though she wouldn't admit it to herself. Her pants still fit, but Bo could see her wife grunt when buttoning her tight ass jeans and dress pants in the morning. She wasn't showing much; if anything, she just looked like she gained a few pounds. The woman was still super thin, and her body had been super sensitive, too. Bo loved discovering that. She had plans later that included knowing that.
When she got back to her car, Bo tossed the bags in the backseat, just now aware that she'd been whistling while walking. Her inner teenage girl even giggled at how happy she felt.
She wasn't prepared to be pulled from the car before she had a chance to sit down in the driver's seat, as she was flung across the alleyway into the concrete wall. The wind was knocked from her, and she felt the blood pooling at her head where it was cut open from the impact. There would also be bruises on her back and side where her body took most of the blow. She hadn't felt this amount of pain in a long time. She never really understood why she took easier cases with only minimum violence required until now.
Lauren was not going to like this; Bo had already taken too much from her these past few days. Now she was going to need to heal. That, or Bo would go without and heal the old-fashioned way despite her wife's protests. If Lauren was too tired, there was no way Bo was going to take more from her, even if she needed it.
Bo pushed herself up from the ground once she got her breathing back. She was doubly pissed at whoever did this now.
What really pissed her off was that she saw nobody there. She could sense someone's energy, and she could tell they were powerful, but she couldn't see them.
"Hello?" She looked around, wincing when she stood. Her defensive posture was automatic; her hand went to her thigh where the knife was usually tucked. This time, it wasn't there. Since she had been shopping in the more upscale stores, Bo didn't think bringing weapons strapped to her body would get her the right kind of attention. Of all the times and places to be attacked, she thought she would be safe here. In retrospect, she should have known better than to park in a back alley. Old habits die hard, though.
"Little girl, you have enemies all over." The voice whistled in the air, as it moved too fast for her to interpret where it was coming from. Whoever it was had speed and stealth on their side, possibly invisibility. "People want you dead. You and that demon child."
"My baby is not a monster." Bo felt her skin start to boil, her eyes flashing blue and ears ringing. She tried to focus and follow the sound of the voice.
"Monster or no, a lot of people want it dead." The voice was becoming easier to follow, as Bo focused her senses and allowed her dormant powers to surface. "But there are some that want to see you dead more."
"Then why don't they show their faces instead of hiding?" Bo felt the air shift around her, as she was punched in the thigh, bringing her down to the ground again, but she quickly stood back up and followed the air. "At least I'm not a coward and actually look my enemy in the eye when I kill them. I don't send some assassin to do the job; I do it myself."
"I'm indifferent. I only do what I am paid to do, and somebody paid triple my normal fees to kill you. How could I resist?"
"Money isn't everything." Bo had learned that lesson these past few months. She had stopped caring about money and thinking she wasn't providing for Lauren. Of course, it didn't hurt that she'd managed to put back eight figures in savings. She was glad Lauren finally convinced her to stash all that money someplace besides under the bed. She was even more surprised Kenzi had behaved and kept her sticky fingers away from it. "Why not fight me directly? Why the hiding?"
"I'm here to kill you. I play to my strengths and your weaknesses. I'm not stupid enough to think you couldn't best me, succubus."
"Then, I'm sorry for this." Bo relaxed in her focus, closing her eyes and letting her dormant powers work for her. She snapped her hand out, as though catching a fly between chopsticks like she remembered from Karate Kid, as she peeled her fingers around a creature. When she opened her eyes, she felt the creature more than saw it before it began to appear in its human form. "Hello."
"Hi?" The young girl couldn't be much older than Kenzi. This was the assassin they sent after her? Was this a joke? Was this the fae version of Punked?
"Who hired you?" Bo loosened her grip around the young girl's throat, but she wasn't stupid enough to let her go completely.
"This woman at my gym. I don't know her name." The young girl coughed, looking frightened now. "I'm a Dark Fae hitperson; she was Light. That's all I know."
"What'd she look like?" Bo tried to imagine who this woman could be. She was Light fae didn't narrow it down by much. There were a lot of Light, fae and human, that she angered over her time here in the city.
"I don't know."
"What do you mean you don't know?" Bo figured the girl was playing with her now, protecting her client. She had done so often enough herself. Instead of playing the question and answer game, Bo decided to tighten her grip again to show her seriousness. "How could you not know what the woman looks like?"
"I was in the shower. She approached me from outside and left the money and your picture in my locker." The young girl pulled her hands up to grip at the one Bo had around her throat. "I'm good at my job because I don't ask too many questions."
"You're Dark, so why take a job from a Light fae? Does the Morrigan know about this?" Bo realized she had been avoiding Evony. Maybe it was time to pay her a visit, especially if she did know.
"Did you not hear the part about me being paid triple?" She coughed and was turning a little too red, so Bo loosened her grip slightly. "Nobody knows I'm Dark when they're dead. Nobody even knows I was there. I don't leave behind any evidence, and the kills just look human-based, like anyone could have done them. I'm not stupid; I don't target my kills unless they are in the appropriate areas. I'm not trying to start any wars. I'm just trying to get paid."
"This district is neutral ground." Bo tightened her grip again. She looked to the side, talking to herself out loud as she was trying to process this entire scenario. "What Light faes want me dead?"
"I never said she was fae." The young girl pulled at her throat again, her voice constricted from Bo's tightening grip. This new information did narrow things down, though. It was a Light fae human? For some reason, Nadia came to mind. She did know about the fae world now, and fae did not like humans knowing their business. Could she be owned by someone now? It did seem a little strange that she would just appear out of nowhere and start targeting Lauren. "I don't get the rest of my money until you're dead, and I'm going to keep coming for you. As soon as you let me go, I'm going to keep coming for you. I will kill you."
"Please, little girl." Bo chuckled lightly. Did this young woman really think she was a threat? Bo was also not stupid enough to think she couldn't be, which was why she held her grip.
"The unaligned succubus? Do you know how badass I'll be when I kill you? I'd almost do it for free, just because the clients would come pouring in once I kill you." Okay, now Bo was getting mad a bit. The arrogance of the fae coupled with the arrogance of youth. This was not a good combination. She almost hated having to kill the young woman, but there was no doubt she would keep coming for her. Bo recognized unwavering determination when she saw it; she even had enough of it herself to know this girl was not faking. "After I'm done with you, I'm going to kill your wife and that abomination she's carrying. I'll be the hero for saving the fae world. Everyone will know my name, and I'll be…"
Bo felt her dormant powers come to the surface faster than usual, her eyes sparking a harsh violence now. All she heard was her family threatened; all she felt was the young girl's neck snap in her hands in the next second.
When she came back to reality, Bo felt the pain in her body again from the earlier attack. She dropped the young girl's dead body to the ground, feeling bad about killing a kid. Even though the girl was an assassin for hire, Bo could sense the potential for something else. Then again, maybe she just wanted to believe there was something else there because the girl was so young. Maybe her teacher preparation had gone to her head more than she wanted to admit.
This was her first real kill since she had lost her guilt. Bo felt that old familiar feeling return as she looked down at the young girl's dead body pooled at her feet.
She dialed Dyson, who was on duty with Hale right now, but she knew she couldn't wait with the body. This was neutral ground, and this was a Dark fae. Lauren would no doubt be the one doing the autopsy, and Bo hated that her wife had to be involved.
She was getting into her car when she noticed another young kid walking down the alley. When the kid saw the dead body and Bo starting to pull away, the kid pulled out a camera phone.
"Dammit. You kids and your phones." She stopped the car and was getting ready to get out and talk to the kid when cop cars started to sound close. If she was going to escape being caught, she needed to go now. "Dammit."
Bo made a decision and drove away, wishing she could have at least succupowered the kid into giving her the phone. She hoped Dyson and Hale could fix this problem, as she called them back to tell them to take the kid's phone. They agreed she made the right decision by leaving and promised to take care of it. She breathed a bit easier, as she made her way home.
Lauren was glad that Gram had taught Kenzi to cook the past few years. She actually became a great sous chef when they were preparing meals at home and at the farmhouse. Plus, Lauren enjoyed the company. After years of eating alone, it was nice to not only not eat alone but also to have someone help in the kitchen. Since Bo had left to go shopping for the new undercover case, which excited Lauren more than she was ready to admit aloud, she and Kenzi had spent the day playing with Alexie before breaking down and prepping dinner.
There was a brief concern when she sensed Bo was not alright, but it didn't last long. That usually meant her wife was worried about something, or some idiot was being stupid and trying to be handsy.
Now that Alexie was down for a nap, Kenzi had her wine in hand, and dinner was in the oven, Lauren decided to finally open a discussion about the lunch with Nadia.
"So…about lunch the other day…with Nadia." Lauren went to the fridge to pour herself a glass of cranberry juice. She was feeling bloated even more today, and she could physically feel her body shifting. It was uncomfortable, but she didn't really want to complain. Her jeans were tighter, but that was to be expected at this point, despite her frustration at this fact. If anybody knew what she was going through right now, though, it was the young woman sitting across from her at the kitchen island.
"Yeah, she wants your special flavor of Koolaid." Kenzi smirked behind her glass. "Bo's not too happy about it, as you are already no doubt aware, but Nadia seems…"
"Yeah?" Lauren leaned across the counter towards her friend. She found that she trusted Kenzi's judgment in these situations. Bo could read sexual energy, but she was also bias in this particular scenario. While Kenzi was still bias, her emotions wouldn't overrun her judgment about the other woman as much.
"She's your Dyson. That one ex you can't seem to shake." Kenzi took a brief sip of her wine. One thing that had surprisingly happened since Alexie was born was that Kenzi was sober more often than not. Lauren remembered how upset Kenzi was that she couldn't drink like a fish anymore after she found out she pregnant; it came not long after that she was concerned that her drinking before she knew she was pregnant could mean something was wrong with the baby. Lauren had smiled and taken her in to do that first dating ultrasound with her, so they could find out how far along the young woman was and to make it more of a reality for her. "Bo knows that, too. She's trying to deal, but you know Bo and her succubus, 'don't touch my woman' jealous stuff. I totally thought she was going to blow a load after you ran into Nadia that first time."
"What do you think about her, though? Can we trust her?" Lauren was always on alert. It was one of the things she had not let dwindle away since her residual neutrality had been established.
"Trust her? I don't know. She seems cool. She's pretty. I get why you liked her, emphasis on the word 'liked' there, doc. I'm glad that you didn't fall for all those old flirty tricks Nadia threw at you. I'm proud of you; you're all grown up now." To hear a woman almost ten years younger than you say she was proud of you for being grown up was almost comical. The reasons why avoiding flirting meant she was grown up were not clear, though. "She was throwing out some serious vibes, and I think she was baiting you a bit, but she did get the message. That's what I saw, though. She could have totally been playing me, too. Did she try anything after I went to take Alexie for a nap?"
"Not really. We just talked. She told me why she left me all those years ago, and she did admit to still liking me, but…I made it clear that I was all Bo's." Lauren emptied the rest of her cranberry juice before going to place the glass by the sink. She decided to start pulling out plates and utensils for dinner, since it would be ready soon. "She said she wouldn't do anything, and I want to believe her."
"Do you not?" Kenzi had been in a good mood today, which was showing in her constant smirk and tone. Lauren liked that they had managed to get this close. Once upon a time, she doubted that they would ever get along. Looking back, Lauren realized how silly she was for thinking that. Then again, they were forced together and did fight like the odd couple they were. "Do you think she'll try something?"
"I want to believe she won't, and I hope she doesn't." Lauren felt the hesitancy in her own voice.
"But?" Kenzi arched an eyebrow, urging her to continue before pouring another glass of wine. Since she was going undercover as a high school student in a few days, the young woman was doing her best to prove her very adultness now.
"I get what Bo must have felt when I would get upset Dyson was around." Looking back, Lauren remembered how on alert Bo would be whenever Dyson and Lauren would be in the same room. It felt good to forgive him and be nice; it made life with Bo's job and interaction with the man that much easier.
"Lauren, that was a little bit different. Dyson wasn't exactly ever nice to you. Plus, you hide your jealousy well. I know you don't ever show it, but I know you feel it sometimes. You don't have to play the 'I'm so rational' card with me. I know you're good with Bo's stuff; that doesn't mean you can't be jealous every once in a while when a particular hottie ogles or tries to hardcore flirt with your girl." Kenzi smiled. Why was she so happy today? What did they miss while they were upstairs these past few days? "Keep your friends close and your enemies closer. Which one Nadia is, only time will tell. For now, I think she's nice and fun and you're happy she's back in your life. Just don't forget about your real best friend."
"Alexie?" Lauren smiled, teasing the young girl. If she had to break it down, Kenzi was her best friend outside of Bo. It was funny to hear the girl refer to herself as that out loud, though, especially considering it was Kenzi who fought the friendship the most.
