MT: Chapter 6
Double D's heart was racing as he ran towards the construction site nearby, as fast as his feet could take him. He eventually arrived at his destination, around the outskirts of the site. Before he could take another step inside, Double D could feel his knees start to buckle from the running he did, collapsing a bit to the ground. He knew he was not the fittest person for running like that; he had to rest for a moment, even if it was for a short time.
"Double D!" called out Eddy's voice as Double D turned to see him come running up to him, "I didn't expect you to run off like that! What the heck were you thinking?!"
"I-I'm sorry, Eddy…" Double D started to say, glancing away from him a little, "I could feel my body jump into action before I could think about what I was doing."
Eddy made an annoyed sigh to him, "Geez, and everyone tells me I'm the reckless one."
Double D slowly started to get back on his feet, his knees still felt a bit wobbly, "We have to find Jennifer, she's in danger…"
"I know, I know!" Eddy replied to him, "Cool your jets for now, we'll find her."
Double D looked at Eddy with a small smile, "Thank you Eddy. Though I did not expect you to be the one to be so calm about this if I'm being honest."
"Only because you'd decided to run ahead like a moron."
"Hey, I resent that!"
Eddy could only laugh at his response, "Come on, let's go find Jenna and the jerk that took her."
Double D nodded his head in agreement, with the look of determination in his eyes, "Right."
The two teens started to walk into the construction site, looking around to see if they could find anything out of the ordinary. Suddenly, they could hear two collective screams and cries of pain not far from them.
"Wait a minute, one of those screams sounded like Zoey!" Double D gasped in horror, "Was she also with Jennifer at the time she was taken?!"
Eddy stood there for a short moment in shock at this turn of events before snapping back into his senses, "It sounded like they were not that far away!"
The two Eds dashed over to where they heard the screams. They hid themselves behind a wooden shed that was nearby before glancing at the sight before them in horror.
About a few yards away from them were Jennifer and Zoey, both were bounded separately to two metal poles sticking out of the ground with the rope that Ed mentioned before. They both looked like they had been through Hell and back, their heads hung low in pain. Standing in front of Jennifer was the girl with the black snake jacket, and standing in front of Zoey was…
"E-Evan…!" Eddy stuttered out in shock and horror, "How is he here?! He was arrested!"
"… The girl there must have freed him somehow, knowing he held a grudge," Double D concluded.
Eddy narrowed his eyes in anger, "Freaking great…"
Double D took out Jennifer's cellphone for a moment, making sure the sounds for it were turned off, "It's a good thing I brought her phone with me. I'm very hopeful that the police could potentially track it down to this location since I brought it with us."
"Geez, always thinking a step ahead, aren't you?" Eddy stated with a bit of sarcasm before looking back to the others, "So, what's the plan?"
"Hold on a moment, let me think this through…" Double D started to say, looking at his surroundings from where they were.
It only took him thirty seconds to come up with an idea, "We need to try and distract them away from Jennifer and Zoey by trying to make a commotion, then we can untie them when they are not looking. I suggest turning on some of the loudest tools here to distract them and then running far from it, so they can't see you."
"Sounds like a good plan!" Eddy replied with a thumbs up.
A few minutes passed by before they found several jackhammers that were laying around. Double D and Eddy quickly turned on four of them before dashing back to their hiding spot behind the wooden shed. The noise they were making caught the attention of Viper and Evan.
"The hell is that noise?" Evan questioned with a grumble of annoyance. He then turned to Viper, "You wanna go check it out? Someone could be nearby, and that could be bad for us."
Viper stayed silent for a second before replying, "Whatever. It's not like these two will be going anywhere."
Viper and Evan started walking off towards where they heard the noise, leaving behind Jennifer and Zoey. Double D and Eddy waited a few seconds after they left to finally go up to the girls. Zoey was the first one that saw them approaching, widening her eyes at the sight of them, "Y-You guys…!"
Jennifer looked up a little to see them; she did not say anything but had a few tears in her eyes to their presence.
Double D reached into his back pocket to take out the pocketknife he grabbed from his house, slowly cutting the ropes that blinded Jennifer to the metal pole. Eddy was trying to untie Zoey's ropes by himself before realizing he could not do it without something sharp to cut the ropes. When Double D was finished setting Jennifer free, he handed the pocketknife to Eddy so he could cut Zoey's binds. He did so quickly when they heard the jackhammers no longer making any noise; it sounded like Viper and Evan found their distraction. They could be back any second now.
"Can you two stand up?" Double D asked the girls with worry.
"We have to go, now!" Eddy stated.
Jennifer and Zoey could only nod their heads. The four teens then ran away from the scene and back to the Cul-De-Sac, hoping that Viper and Evan did not see them. As the four teens were running, Double D noticed that Jennifer was falling behind them a little. It looked like she was the one with the most injuries. Suddenly, Jennifer stumbled to the ground in pain, which caught everyone's attention.
"Oh dear, Jennifer!" Double D gasped as he went to her side.
"I-I'm sorry, I don't think I can run anymore," Jennifer stated with sadness.
"… We should probably try and find a good hiding place instead of running," Zoey stated, "At least until we have the energy to make another run for it."
Eddy nodded his head, "Yeah, good idea."
They looked at their surroundings to see if there was a place to hide. Thankfully, there was another wooden shed nearby them that looked to be open. Double D gently helped Jennifer back up, letting her lean on his shoulder so she could walk with him towards the wooden shed.
Once they made it there, the four of them went inside the shed and closed the door. There were also a few tools around the shed, like wrenches and hammers. Double D sat Jennifer down with her back up against the wall of the shed, sitting down with her as he did. Eddy and Zoey also sat down next to them, seeing that they were also exhausted and needed the rest.
Jennifer groaned slightly in pain, "It felt like my body was being ripped apart… I thought I was going to die."
Double D looked at her with sadness in his eyes, "Let's try to not think about that, you need to rest."
"I know… Thank you," Jennifer replied as she leaned her head on Double D's left shoulder, closing her eyes to try and rest.
Double D stayed silent to her; he really did not know what to say to make her feel better. He reached out his left hand to her right hand, holding it tightly, 'Maybe this can help comfort her,' he thought.
Double D then remembered Jennifer's cellphone, which was in his back pocket. He took it out and opened it, only to see so many messages from her mom, asking if she was alright and for her to answer her. Double D decided to respond to her texts for Jennifer, saying that she was alright and where they were right now. He asked her mom to tell the authorities about their location, and about the people who attacked her.
Meanwhile, Eddy and Zoey looked at Double D and Jennifer in relief, "Man, looks like Double D only had a one-track mind when it comes to Jenna," Eddy stated.
"Like you're the one to talk," Zoey chuckled to him.
"Wait what?!" Eddy questioned in surprise, "I didn't even know you were with Jenna! Don't put that on me!"
Zoey started to laugh even more, "Wow, did you just admit that I'm special to you?" she teased.
There was an awkward silence after she said that before Eddy realized what he said, "W-Wait a minute! I didn't mean it like that, I swear!"
"Eddy," Zoey started to say with a smile, "We can talk about that later, okay? Right now, we need to sit and wait for the police to find us."
Eddy could feel himself getting embarrassed about what he blurted out to her, 'Geez, this is really awkward…' he thought.
The next ten minutes felt like an eternity for the four teens. Jennifer had dozed off for a short moment, her head still resting on Double D's shoulder. Double D was glancing at Jennifer's cellphone occasionally, attempting to respond to any messages that came through, as well as looking to see what the current time was. He could feel Jennifer starting to wake up from her nap, lifting her head up as she did, "Are you feeling better?" Double D asked.
"Kind of, yeah," Jennifer replied with a small smile, "Thank you again."
Double D could only smile back in response. He looked around the shed to see both Eddy and Zoey sitting off to his far left, they both looked bored out of their minds.
He then glanced over at a window on the other side of the shed, it was covered with dirt from the outside, so it was difficult to see out of it. It was then he noticed a figure of some kind coming up to the window. The figure then pressed something up against the glass of the window; something circular…
Double D widened his eyes at what it was. Before he could say any word of warning, Double D embraced Jennifer suddenly from where she sat, surprising everyone in the room, "I'm sorry, Jen."
BANG!
The glass from the window shattered as the bullet from the pistol struck Double D in the back of his right shoulder. Jennifer, Eddy, and Zoey widened their eyes in shock. Double D let's go of Jennifer, trembling; he looked at her with a smile before closing his eyes, a few tears started to form from the pain he felt. His body began to feel heavy; with him falling over to his side with a thud.
"DOUBLE D!" Eddy and Zoey shouted in disbelief as they both came over to his side.
Jennifer sat there in shock at what had just happened, tears started to fall from her eyes. The door of the shed was forcefully kicked down, with Evan and Viper walking into the small room.
"Heh, I had a feeling you were the ones that freed your friends, shrimp," Evan stated to Eddy, a smirk came across his face, "Looks like Viper actually managed to hit one of you, eh?"
"Unfortunately, I hit the wrong person," Viper shrugged her shoulders before looking to Jennifer, "My target is that weakling…" she then turned her attention to Zoey, "Of course you already knew that didn't you?"
"What…?" Eddy uttered out in confusion as he and Jennifer turned to Zoey, who turned pale in the face at what she said.
Viper then handed Evan the gun she held, "I'll stay here with the weakling, and you can do whatever the hell you want with those losers."
"Sure thing!" Evan laughed, pointing the gun to Eddy and Zoey, "Come on now, let's get out of this room and go somewhere else."
Evan then forced them to stand up and walk out of the shed, forcefully pushing them as he did. He tossed the two teens to the ground in front of him. Evan then pointed the gun he held to Eddy, "It's about time this all ends, don't you think?"
Before Evan could do anything to Eddy, he was tackled from his right side down to the ground by Zoey, which made him knock the gun out of his hand. When Evan tried to get back on his feet, Zoey did a roundhouse kick to his face, which immediately knocked him down to the ground and out like a light.
Zoey stood there for a moment, out of breath from what she did, "Are you alright, Eddy?" she asked.
"Yeah…" Eddy replied, a bit stunned, "I'm gonna need to remind myself to never make you angry."
"Oh, shut up," Zoey retorted before turning back to the wooden shed, "We have to help them out, and fast."
Meanwhile, back in the shed, Jennifer rested Double D's head in her lap. She could not stop shaking in fright at what happened. He took that hit for her, protecting her, saving her life. She could tell he was still alive but was losing a lot of blood. If something was not done now, he could die.
Jennifer could hear Viper cracking her knuckles before she was lifted by her shirt collar, "Now then, where were we again?"
Jennifer tried to set herself free from Viper's grasps, "P-Please, let me go!"
"Oh? You finally decided to talk back? That's funny," Viper questioned with a hint of amusement, "Why would you start putting up a fight now? You know you're going to die at the end of it all."
"I-I… I got to help him!" Jennifer yelled to her assailant, crying as she did, "I don't want him to die! Please!"
Viper only scoffed at her plea, "Request denied."
Viper proceeded to throw Jennifer to the wall on her right, making her crash into it and fall to the ground with a sickening thud, "Heh, what a joke."
"I'd say the only joke around here is you, you bitch!"
Viper started to turn around to see who was talking, only to be greeted in the face with a metal pipe to the side of her head. She fell to the ground instantly from the impact, knocking her out for the count.
Eddy was the one who held the metal pipe in his hands, "That's for hurting my friends, asshole."
He and Zoey then looked to Double D and Jennifer. Jennifer was knocked out, while Double D looked worse than he did a moment ago. The two teens could hear a lot of footsteps nearby, along with some distant sirens in the background.
"About time they showed up," Zoey sighed in relief.
The police and paramedics soon came up to them, with the paramedics helping Double D and Jennifer and the police handling Viper and Evan. The paramedics took Double D and Jennifer to an ambulance nearby while the police took Viper and Evan into custody.
Author's Note (June 2nd, 2023): This chapter was actually going to be longer, but I decided to cut it in half. The next chapter will be done soon because of that.
