I got to Bakewell only at 4 pm. There was quite a delay with trains that day. I really just wanted to sit down, but I needed to get to that church. And with its high tower, It wasn't so hard to find in the town filled with one floor houses. When I was close enough, it was a remarkable church.
And there she sat, along with her friend. She wore the same dress from her visit to my house. I guess she didn't have a lot of clothes. It's not as if I brought so many changes of clothes with me. Most of the time I wore my lab coat anyway.
"Good afternoon, dr. Jekyll," she smiled at me.
"Please, call me Henry," I said as I put my suitcase on the ground.
"Only one?"
"I don't need anything more."
"We could sell them you know," she said a bit annoyed, I guess she didn't like how I treated my financial status easily.
"I am sorry… I guess I can get back home and get some stuff to sell,"
"I was kidding," she rose and kissed me on my cheek. Did I blush? My cheeks became warm. "But really, maybe you should do something with this house of yours. You can't just disappear, can you?"
"I guess I should have waited more time…" and just when I was finally spontaneous.
"I'm sure you can handle it from afar, somehow… you have that friend you said you came with, no?"
"Yeah, I guess Thomas can help. Which reminds me, he said his fiancé from here. Her name is Linda."
"Heavens, it's William's half-sister!" Sally raised her voice, and then put her hands on her mouth.
"That's an interesting development of events," Lucy said with an interested smile.
"Well, I guess the two of you need some time together. And I need to get ready for my meeting with William. You remember where my house is, right, Luc?"
And finally, we were alone. It was only the time I was with her as a whole since our first meeting.
"Do you believe we did it? I don't," she took my hand.
"To be honest… I believe it even less," I released a nervous chuckle.
"Two people who hardly know each other left everything they know to start anew. Someone totally should make a book out of it," after a pause she added, with a sparkle in her eyes. "Or better, a play!"
I really liked to see her excited like this. I couldn't see myself, but I was sure I looked silly with that smile I wore on my face. I didn't care.
"But now what?" I asked all of a sudden. "Where should we live, for starters?"
"Well, Sally has a spare space after her two siblings married. We would need to sleep in a separate room, though."
"That's fine by me…" I felt my cheeks warm.
"Well, I guess it's too early for you," she chuckled.
"So I guess this is it," I put my suitcase down. My hand totally needed a break.
"No, henry, it's just the beginning," she said as she lifted the suitcase and started walking.
Damn, she was stronger than me, was she?
Emma, with you I always worried I wouldn't be able to protect you. This is how I felt on the day where you bled right in front of me, and I was so panicked I couldn't do anything to save you. But I don't think I need to protect her. Maybe the other way around. Wish me luck, my first love.
