Part 3
"You are high." He concluded his inspection with a heavy sigh.
"Yeah, so what? Hey, do you want to come party with us?"
He ignored her, "What are you on? Do you have it on you now? Huh?" He asked as he started to search her for drugs.
"Hey, what are you doing?" Caroline started to try and get away from him but he was stronger and held her in place with one hand while searching her with another.
Klaus found her phone and her wallet on the jacket's pocket and threw them on the ground after being sure it wasn't in them. Then he found her lipstick container full of cocaine and her powder container full of ecstasy pills.
After not finding anything else, he asked her "Is that all or do you have anything else on you?"
"That's everything, Mr Policeman," she said and shoved her tongue out like a kid at him.
"Okay, you are coming with me."
"No way in hell, I have friends waiting for me inside."
And just like on cue, her friends found them.
"Caroline, is this guy disturbing you?"
She didn't have time to say anything as Klaus' face turned to his hybrid form and he threw Sam against the wall near her with a force she was sure he wouldn't survive and sunk his teeth on Merle while breaking his neck. The others turned to run away and Klaus let them go.
This sobered Caroline up even more and she was a little afraid when he didn't turn to normal at first and just stared at her. "Okay, fine I'll leave, but I'm going to my apartment, not coming anywhere with you."
He then turned to normal Klaus and said "Get in the car, I'll take you home." His face was serious but it didn't reveal any other emotions. It was hard to read him. Was he angry? Disappointed? Hurt? Maybe all three, she concluded.
In the car, he totally ignored her and her questions about why he had returned and only when she brought up their deal, did he answer that they were not exactly in Mystic Falls.
When Caroline wanted to open the door on the passenger side to get out, Klaus was faster and opened the door and put a hand under her knees and picked her up and carried her inside. All the while she was laughing like it was the biggest joke and said, "I'm still able to walk you know."
When they got to her apartment and he wanted to enter, he couldn't. He groaned, "Who's the owner?"
"Do you have to?" Klaus just stared at her until she gave up. "Mrs Miller, lives alone, next to my apartment, 342."
"Okay, get in, I'll be back in a second." And in a few seconds he was back with Mr Miller who he compelled to invite him in to her apartment.
When he was inside, he started to go through her things.
"Hey, hey, what are you doing now?" Caroline asked trying to get him to stop.
"What do you think?"
"I don't have anything here. Everything I had, you have in your car now."
But he didn't believe her one bit. He had dealt with drug addicts before and knew their notorious lying.
He sighed as he found some pills in the freezer and some more in one of her boots. He kept looking but gave up after a while, being sure that he had searched all the known hiding places that users used to hide their crap.
When he was done, he found that she was already sleeping on the couch. He carried her to the bed and put a blanket on her.
'What the hell happened to you, sweetheart?' He asked as his fingers brushed against her cheek. Even her skin was different to the touch.
He closed the bedroom door and started to go through his contacts. It was late at night, past midnight but he was determined to get a hold of any one of her little friends to know what was going on.
"Klaus? What do you want?"
"Stefan, my mate," he started with a neutral tone, "Have you forgotten something?"
"Like what?"
"LIKE CALLING ME? WE HAD A DEAL, STEFAN? REMEMBER?"
"You mean Caroline?"
"No I mean that other deal we made. YES, I MEAN CAROLINE? We had a deal that if anything happens to her, you let me know?"
"But nothing has. She's just blowing through some classes and partying more than usual. That's all."
"Really, then why did I find her in a place like Shooting Stars, high as a kite, with lowlifes she would otherwise never hang out with."
"High on drugs? No, she's not doing drugs, we would know about it."
Klaus wanted to say something harsh but then decided that it doesn't get him anywhere, so he just hung up and decided to call the Witch.
"Klaus?" Bonnie answered, her voice sounded sleepily, like she had woken up but he didn't care.
"Tell me everything that has happened that involves Caroline, starting with my last visit. I was here when Katarina died, what happened after that?"
The little witch sighed and then told him everything, including her mother's death, and Stefan cheating on her with Elena.
"Well, that's should do it," he muttered more to himself than to Bonnie and hung up the phone.
He fell on the couch and started thinking why he didn't pay someone to watch her. It was a mistake he wasn't about to repeat. He was so angry at her friends right now and to stop himself from going and killing them all, he decided to focus on her. What he could do for her now. The condition he found her in and the strong drugs she used to "party" gave away that she was already addicted to them. While it was hard for vampires to get addicted to alcohol, although it could happen, it was relatively easy to get addicted to drugs like cocaine and ecstasy. As he knew the minute she woke, she wanted to get intoxicated again, he had tough times ahead with her. While thinking that, he also well asleep on the couch.
He woke up at the sound of things falling a breaking and her yelling in between, "Where are they, Klaus?" and "Give them back, Klaus!"
Klaus yawned as he pulled himself to a sitting position and asked innocently, "What are you looking for, sweetheart?"
"You know very well, what I'm looking for, Klaus." She said while going through her stuff.
Klaus got a little angry with her as he flashed to her and grabbed her wrists, "Stop, Caroline, they are gone, down the toilet."
She then started to hit him on the face with her hands in fists while repeating, "Idiot" and "Asshole" to him. He took some of the blows, stepping back a little with each blow. They actually hurt a lot, she was quite strong.
Then suddenly he had had enough, he grabbed her wrists again and said it, his voice low, "Enough, Caroline. It's done. Deal with it."
"Deal with it yourself, Klaus." Caroline leaned against a wall for a minute and seemed to be thinking, when suddenly she flashed away. But he was faster, and he caught her just outside of her apartment.
"Where do you think you are going now? To your dealer? Forget about it, you are not going anywhere. Firstly because look at yourself, you can't go to public like that secondly because from now on, you are going to be under my watchful eye. No more going to your dealers, no more partying, no more going out. Period. You are going to get over this addiction whether you like it or not."
"What addiction? Vampires don't get addicted to the same things humans do." She retorted, holding her head, like it has hurting, which he thought was as her body screaming for another dose.
Klaus dragged her back in her apartment, took some water from the tap and found her aspirin and gave a couple of the pills to her with some water.
"Take them and you'll feel better," Klaus said to Caroline while she took the things from him.
"Don't lie to the girl, they won't help much." It was Damon's voice who came in as he already got an invite from some time ago when he visited her again to check up on her. "I brought something that actually helps," throwing a bottle of whiskey at Klaus who caught it with ease.
"Absolutely not, Damon," Klaus started but Damon cut him off.
"I know you want to protect her, Klaus, but she's in for a hell of a hangover and while I get it, she can't do drugs, she should be able to dull some pain with alcohol. You know I'm right, Klaus"
Klaus thought about it for a minute and then reluctantly poured her a drink and gave the glass to Caroline who happy to get something at last, drowned it all right away and then snatched the whole bottle away from Klaus and started to drink straight from the bottle.
Bonnie was already working on a boundary spell that would keep Caroline in and only her. Caroline noticed her doing the spell and asked, "What is Bonnie doing?"
"Oh that," Damon answered, "That's just a boundary spell to keep you in here until Klaus takes you to New Orleans with him."
"What? I'm not going anywhere and I'm not staying here, trapped like some animal." She bolted to the door again but was stopped by an invisible wall at the entrance of the apartment.
"You can't do this to me, Klaus. LET ME OUT!" She screamed at him when she started to throw things again and this time at him.
"Yeah, Blondie, not going to happen. Drug addiction is almost as bad as a blood addiction for vampires. While blood addiction is more dangerous to other people, drug addiction destroys the user. You already aren't anything like yourself. Your behaviour, even your character has changed and the latter is unfortunately irreversible."
"What do you mean? Vampires don't get addicted to alcohol and drugs like humans do. And what character change. I'm still me, just having some problems right now," she said as she continued to drink from the bottle.
"Oh, they do and drugs affect us even worse. You are losing a part of yourself that you may never get back if you continue on this path and you are going to become another person. Another, not so pleasant version of Caroline Forbes."
That seemed to affect her as she put away the bottle for a minute, "What are you talking about?." Then she turned to Klaus and asked the same, "What is he talking about?"
Klaus was silent, just stared at his feet.
"I'm talking about the fact that you need to stop. Like now, Caroline. Can't do anymore drugs, ever."
Klaus decided to change the subject and direct her to the bathroom, "Damon is right, but for now, just go and take a bath. You can take your bottle with you."
"I don't want to," she whined.
Klaus pulled her by the arm to the bathroom where he got the water running and put some bath foam in it, "I'm making you a nice bath. When I leave, take the dress off and go in and soak in it like a couple of hours."
"You think I'm dirty and I reek, is that it?" she feigned being hurt.
"Take the bath, love, you'll feel better." Klaus said and closed the door and locked it. He heard her getting into the tub and Klaus left her alone.
When he got back to the living room / kitchen, Damon asked him, "So when are you leaving, how long do I need to baby-sit?"
"First, I've got some business in Mystic Falls, I'll do it and I'll return in a couple of hours. And then I release you of your nanny duties. Then we'll leave today."
"Hope you know what you are doing, mate, as she isn't going to go with ease. She's going to protest and probably won't let you drive anywhere."
"That's why I need her unconscious for the trip, do you have anything that might help?"
"Yeah, I have strong sedatives at home. Don't ask."
"Tell us where they are and Bonnie will get them for me. Right, Bonnie?"
"Sure, whatever you need, Klaus." she said with distain and continued to ask, "What are you going to do with her in New Orleans?"
"I'm going to get her to rehab, with added security that can deal with her or I'll let her stay at my house and I'll help her myself. She decides."
"Okay, sounds reasonable I guess."
"Then go, tend to your task, please," he said impatiently, trying not to sound to hostile. He was actually glad to have the help of some of her friends.
Bonnie left and so did he. He went to his mansion in Mystic Falls. There was still a library full of books and some documents he needed to go over. He was having a problem with a friend of his that blew into town a little while ago and he gathered information on him. He needed to know, what he had been up to the past centuries that he hadn't seen his "friend". After researching him for a couple of hours and finding plenty of information, he took it with him and left the mansion.
When he got back, he heard her yelling while being inside the building but far from her apartment.
"Damon, let me go!", "Stop harassing me!, "I don't know anything!"
When he reached the entrance of the apartment, he found them quarrelling inside. Caroline was basically hitting him and ignoring his questions.
"Who's your dealer, huh, Caroline?"
"I don't know. Klaus killed him last night."
"Liar, who are you protecting, Caroline, give me a name?"
"Kelly something, I don't know her last name, she's a girl from school."
Klaus froze at the door, he knew the name. He knew someone from his past, not long ago, whose name was Kelly and who was a serious user one time or another.
"Describe her?" Klaus asked on the doorway.
Caroline was startled by his sudden presence but told them everything she knew, "Brunette, pretty, thin, always wears black, kinda bitchy."
Klaus got angry and told Damon that he had to leave again to deal with that Kelly and told Damon to look after her while he was gone.
He searched the school for Kelly and found her in smoking room, like he thought, with her two friends he knew she'd be hanging out with.
"Klaus! What a pleasant surprise. What brings you here?" The girl asked him as soon as she saw him enter.
"Excuse me, girls, Kelly and I need to have a little chat." He said to others and pulled her out of the room to the hall.
"What are you doing here, at Whitmore, Kelly?" Attending college, just like everyone else.
"Cut the crap, Kelly, I'm asking you last time, what are you doing here?"
"Okay, Okay, I came because I heard your girl was attending college here and I wanted to check her out."
"Why?" he fumed.
"I wanted to get you back and I was just-"
"Just getting her to do drugs? What did you hope to gain, that I saw her and didn't want to have anything to do with her anymore?"
"Something like that…"
"Listen to me, Kelly, You and me we are over, have been ever since you got together with Sebastian. Now Caroline, I actually love no matter what. You didn't change my feelings for her, you just destroyed her for nothing."
"She was already destroyed, when I found her. She couldn't attend her classes, because she couldn't see her friends who betrayed her, being happy. She was a total mess even before I gave her anything. The drugs I gave her, at least helped dull the pain."
Klaus rolled his eyes and changed the subject "You are still using?"
"No, not really, I'm dealing now. After I broke up with Sebastian, I had to find a way to make some money. "
"Fine, but it ends here. You know that after what you have done to the girl I love, there's no way you are walking away unharmed."
"Klaus, please, I just wanted to help…" Kelly took some steps back in fear but Klaus just flashed to her and snapped her neck in one swift motion.
