Klaus had Caroline sedated in the passenger seat next to him. Most of the drive back she had slept, only sometimes she would mumble something incoherent in her sleep. Now, they were pulling up in front of the Mikaelson compound and while he was parking the car, she was beginning to wake up. Klaus remained calm and parked the car and got out of the car. Went to the passenger side, opened the door and took her in to his lap just like when arriving to her apartment that night.
"Klaus, what are you doing? Where are we?" She asked startled.
"In new Orleans, sweetheart. You slept the whole way here." Klaus explained to her.
"WHAT?" She shrieked suddenly. "Put me down, Klaus, put me down NOW." She screamed, she yelled, she tried to claw at his skin. He smiled at the people passing them by and when he had gotten them inside the compound, he flashed to the courtyard and finally put her down as she was hitting him while also threatening, "I swear to god, If you don't take me back home right now, you are going to regret it the rest of your miserable life."
She behaved like a total savage and if the situation weren't so serious, he would laugh at her feeble attempts to shake him.
"What is the meaning of this, Niklaus?" Elijah said, raising his voice to Klaus so he could hear it over Caroline's screaming.
"Who's that trollop?" Rebekah asked.
"Klaus?" Freya also came to see what the hell was going on.
Caroline was randomly hitting him everywhere and slapping him on the face while he tried to calm her down, "Shh, love, please try to calm down and pull yourself together."
Then Caroline looked around the courtyard at the people surrounding them. She recognized Rebekah and Elijah seemed familiar but the other woman was a total stranger to her.
Klaus turned to his siblings, "This is Caroline, he's going to stay here for… awhile," he said, holding back from moaning in pain as she tried to bend his fingers backwards. "Freya, Elijah, her things are in the car. Please bring them in and Freya take whatever you need to put on a boundary spell that works only on her."
"No, no, NO! Please, don't do it, Elijah. I'm not staying her a minute longer, Klaus!" she screamed while still trying to break free from his hold.
"Excuse me." Elijah simply said and with Freya trailing after him, they left to do exactly what Klaus asked them to do."
"What the hell is going on here? Hope just woke up because of this noise." Hayley asked, having arrived on the balcony.
"Yeah, nothing we can do about it now," Klaus told her.
"Just snap her neck, Nik. Then you can explain what is she doing here and why is she acting like that and why she looks so awful that I couldn't recognize her at first." Rebekah chimed in.
"I'm not snapping anything." He said as he saw that she had calmed down a little, still muttering words of hate and threats, but at least she had stopped fighting him.
When Elijah got back with her stuff, Klaus instructed Elijah to find the syringe full of the sedative in liquid form and instructed his brother where and how to inject her with it.
"Not all of it though, it's the last of it and I may need it later."
Rebekah just looked at the show laughing on the inside and Hayley who had brought Hope out just looked on confused at everything.
"Rebekah, did you have the guest room ready for her, like I asked?"
"Well, I had the guest room ready for someone, I just didn't know it was going to be her." Rebekah retorted with distain evident in her voice.
When Klaus got into the guest bedroom with her sleeping now peacefully in his arms, he laid her on the bed and put a blanket on her just like he did in her apartment. He watched her sleep like that, thinking what to do next. He knew she needed to go to rehab where there were professionals attending to her. Psychiatrists and psychologists and other therapists that he and his family couldn't substitute so she could finally get out of that vicious cycle of self-hate that she was going through. But then something clicked for him and he had even better idea.
When he got to his study, ready to make some new arrangements for her, he found Elijah, Rebekah, Hayley and Freya all looking at him, waiting for answers.
He sighed as he closed the door behind him, ready to be bombarded with questions, but first he got a question of his own, "Where's Hope?"
"With Jackson of course." Hayley replied.
"Right, so what do you want to know?" Klaus asked them.
"Well, let's start with why she's here and in this condition. I mean, what is she on?" Rebekah asked.
"She's basically been on ecstasy and cocaine every day for the past six months."
"Bloody hell!" Rebekah swears.
"You brought an addict to the house your daughter sleeps in?" Hayley asked getting in his face.
"Calm down, Hayley, she can only be in her bedroom for now. Freya you got the spell in place?"
"Yeah, her bedroom and the bathroom, is spelled so only she can't get out."
"Thank you, sister."
"Niklaus, you do know what this means. Six months is too long, she may not recover from it, you know, personality and sanity wise." Elijah told his brother.
"Maybe that's a good thing, she does need a personality transplant asap." Rebekah scoffed.
"REBEKAH!" Both Elijah and Klaus growled at her.
"Rebekah, dear sister, I have a favour to ask you. As she is sleeping now in very uncomfortable clothing. Would you be a dear and go-"
"And go change her into something comfortable and tuck her in like a baby." Rebekah rolled her eyes at him. "Alright, I'll do it. But you owe me one, Nik."
Klaus just nodded. "So any other questions?"
"What's your plan moving forward. I too am quite concerned about Hope sleeping in the same household as a recovering addict." Elijah asked.
"Well, I did have a plan to send her to rehab, add some security and so on. But she would be totally alone there, without anyone she knows. So I have another plan, I'll get her the best staff of specialists that are going to treat her here."
"Here? Klaus, come on, don't do this to me?"
"This isn't about you, Hayley." Klaus raised his voice at her.
"Yes, it's about your daughter who's wellbeing is in danger."
"Hayley, I swear to god-"
"Niklaus! I have another offer. There's a quite a large apartment across the street that she can move into. Basically, your windows would look on to her windows and you can keep a watchful eye on her."
Klaus thought about it and couldn't deny that that was the best option for everyone involved.
"Fine, thank you Elijah, you buy the apartment, have it signed to Freya's name and I'll deal with decorating and all that other stuff."
"I actually have it already in my name, I'll just transfer it to Freya's but you can already start. But first, make me understand, brother, why are you doing all that for Miss Forbes. I know you had a crush on her long ago in Mystic Falls but you're over that I believe."
"Caroline and I are friends now. And I would still do everything in my power to help her if she needed it. That's all. Anymore questions?" Klaus asked all of them.
Everyone shook their heads.
"Okay, then leave me to my tasks. I have a lot to do and so have all of you."
Klaus started off by making arrangements for the apartment, it needed to be inhabitable as soon as possible. He called his interior designer and she promised to come right away. Then he went to the best rehab centre in town and compelled her a psychiatrist and a therapist to visit Caroline every day. Then he called and hired her a personal assistant who would deal with her everyday problems.
After he had showed the apartment to the designer and had accepted her ideas for it, he finally had been able to go and check up on Caroline.
**
To his surprise she was sitting in her temporary room, on the windowsill with her legs folded so that her chin rested on her knees and she was looking out the window and although she was still drinking alcohol, she seemed calm and more herself now. He almost didn't want to disturb her, but he really wanted to talk to her. First time since finding her in the bar, she was sober enough for them to have a civil conversation and he wasn't gonna pass up the opportunity.
He went in the room and if she had noticed him, she acted like she hadn't. He went to sit by her side and caressed her hair while he spoke, "Why didn't you come to me, sweetheart? When you lost everything, you could have come to me or at least give me a call?"
"And you would have come running. I know. But I didn't want to bother you, knowing you had this new family, you daughter, Hayley."
"Hayley? What has she got to do with anything?"
"Well, I know you two had a one night stand but I just figured, sharing a daughter would bring you closer and maybe you would-"
Klaus laughed at that wholeheartedly, like it was the best joke he had heard in while, "What? Maybe we would start a relationship just for the sake of our daughter? Hope is happier when he aren't spending too much time together, trust me."
"I'm sorry. I should have come to you. I just…" she trailed off and started to cry again as she changed position and did something unexpected. She wrapped her arms around his neck and hugged him. He instantly pulled her body closer, wrapping his arms around her waist. They sat like that for what seemed like an eternity and he enjoyed every second of it. Breathing in the scent of her that hadn't changed, like had so many other things about her.
"Klaus, what is going to happen now?" Caroline asked her, believing him to have all the answers.
"Well, at first I wanted to send you to the best rehab centre in town with added security."
Caroline instantly pulled away from him and started begging him, "Please don't Klaus, I don't want to be alone for that long. I know how long those programs last. Please, Klaus-"
"Shh, shh, I won't do it, I won't send you anywhere, you are just going across the street from me."
"What to you mean?" Caroline asked in total confusion.
"There are some flats across the street from the compound that have been recently renovated and we have one of them and you are going to live there for as long as it's needed and as long as you want of course."
"Okay, fine, you are going to visit though, right?"
"Of course, love, I wouldn't have it any other way. Besides the windows of my room look directly at yours, so…"
"You pervert," she laughed as she hit him in the chest gently.
He just looked at her, she had just laughed a little, it was a very good sign. She was already getting better, he thought.
But then that night, he didn't get much sleep because after sleeping for an hour or so, he woke up, hearing her yell his name. Her bedroom was next to his, but as he was afraid that she'd wake Hope again, he flashed to her room and saw that the need for another dose had gotten the best of her and she was throwing things out of the window.
He flashed to her and grabbed her wrists to stop her from doing anything else destructive.
"Klaus, I need something, anything… I can't deal with it…Get me something, even weed is okay, just anything… I can't stand the feeling…please Klaus," she begged dropping to her knees.
Klaus just stood there and he wasn't sure if it was the physical pain of not having drugs in her system or if it was the emotional pain of everything she was been through lately but she looked absolutely miserable.
"I'll get you another bottle of whiskey, okay?"
"It's not the same, I need something to forget, don't you understand. I can't live like this." She was bawling her eyes out.
To say that she was scaring her, would be a huge understatement. He didn't understand how a woman who had the best control of everything in her life, could suddenly fall apart like that. There was something he didn't know and he was determined to find that out.
He lowered himself to her level and tried to reason with her, "I can't give you any drugs, but anything else you need, it's yours consider it done."
She stopped crying and looked at him, seemed to think about it hard. Then before he realised what was happening, her lips crashed on his and she pushed him on the floor with his back against the cold floor and she continued to kiss him while he also kissed back, he knew what she wanted and that was also something he had to deny her for the time being.
She was already starting to undress them both, when he grabbed her hands and pulled her away from his lips. "I can't, Caroline, you would regret it later and you would never forgive me for it."
Caroline stood up and so did he.
"Then GET OUT, KLAUS. GET OUT, NOW!" she screamed at the top of her lungs.
"Caroline, love-" he started.
"GET OUT, KLAUS. GET OUT, NOW!" she continued to scream and cry.
By then everyone were at the door with their sleep ruined but he didn't care one bit.
"Elijah, bring me that syringe and a bottle of whiskey!" he ordered his brother.
Elijah flashed away and was back with in few seconds. He gave Klaus the syringe and Klaus immediately plunged it to her neck and injected everything it contained. She calmed down in matter of seconds and he put her back to bed.
"Klaus, this can't go much longer like that." Hayley told Klaus as they left her alone to sleep.
"I know, Hayley, the apartment will be ready by tomorrow night and then we'll move her in there right away. Also, the specialists I hired and compelled for her, are visiting her already tomorrow. During the day."
"Okay, I hope you know what you are doing." Hayley said, taking Hope back to sleep.
"Yeah, she seems to have lost her marbles completely." Rebekah told him before also going back to sleep.
Elijah and Freya left without saying a thing.
Klaus tried to fall asleep but couldn't anymore. He was too anxious to find out what the specialists would tell her tomorrow about her condition.
