"Are you tired of living under the tyranny of benders? Then join the equalists!" Said a Equalists supporter as he stood in front of a large poster that had a masked individual. Korra and Kota noticed the speaker as they joined the small group that listened.
"For too long, the bending elite of our city have forced non-benders live as lower-class citizens!" Korra and Kota couldn't believe what they were hearing, this group seemed radical but was even weird was the man on the poster. A masked individual no one really knows.
"Jeez, this guy in the poster is giving off a pretty weird vibe."
"Join Amon, and together we will tear down the ending establishment!"
"Woah woah what are you talking about? Bending is the coolest thing in the world!" Korra questioned the speaker, bringing all eyes on the two teenagers.
"Besides, not all benders are bad. Think about the innocent people trying to live just like you guys."
"Let me guess, I'm assuming you two are benders just by saying that." The speaker mocked.
"Well I am. But my brother isn't." The eyes of the audience turned to Kota after saying that making him rather nervous. The speaker knew she was telling the truth and spoke to Kota.
"Don't you have a say in this? What's your name kid?" Kota was about to answer after the speaker finished.
"Kota don't..." Kota stopped, looking away from the speaker.
"You have a say in this, don't let benders like her keep you from speaking out!" The speaker tried turning Korra against the group as she scoffed in disbelief.
"Don't you dare turn my brother against me we haven't done anything wrong! If you won't leave him alone I might as well make you stop!" Korra warned the speaker as he showed no fear.
"This is what's wrong in the city. Benders like this girl are use their own power to oppress people like us and that innocent boy!" Pointing to the Kota once more as the group began shouting at Korra.
"I'm not oppressing anyone it's not my fault if my brother won't say anything! Naga, Kota, let's go these jerks aren't even worth it." Korra began to lead Naga off, feeing like she had lost a battle already without throwing a punch. She couldn't believe this was happening in Republic City, she looked back at her brother who seemed to be looking directly at the poster.
"Hey you alright?" Korra asked, catching Kota by surprise.
"I don't know, I wasn't expecting this to happen here."
"Me neither..."
"Same here."
Even after trying to retrace their eyes, Kota and Korra were lost. Since they went for food and ran from an officer they lost track of where they were. Luckily as they walked towards street markets, they noticed a couple shop owners sitting out so they took the chance to ask for directions.
"Excuse me but me and my brother are kinda lost, do you know how to get to Air Temple Island from here?" Korra asked the elderly owner.
"Just head down this street-" The woman was cut off when the distant roar of a car came from further down the street.
"That doesn't look good."
"You two should get moving it isn't safe." The owners rushed inside their stores as the car stopped. Three people came from the car as they approached an elderly man who was cleaning his record player in front of the store. Kota for some reason seemed to recognize their leader as he wore a dark blue coat and a golden necklace. He looked closer and his eyes widened after realizing that necklace had belonged to someone he loved, his dead mother.
"I know that look, that's the one that killed your mother." Kota felt a sudden rush of anger but sadness after seeing the man had taken what was left of his mother all those years ago.
"How about we get some old fashion payback? Let's take back what was ours."
Kota tightened his fist, taking a few steps when Korra put her arm in front of him.
"No Kota, let me handle this..." Korra began to approach the three criminals as they corned the poor man. The thugs were pressuring the old man into giving them their payment for 'protecting' him and his store, but to Korra it didn't seem like protection because the criminals were about to damage the store.
"I'm sorry please, just give me a few more days and I'll have the money I swear!" The man frantically said, frozen on the ground as he was afraid to run.
"Sorry is not gonna cut it, so give us the money or else-" The leader said until he was cut off.
"Or else what hoodlum?" The three thugs turned to see a teenage girl staring at them. They looked at each other and laughed in disbelief.
"Since you and your friend back their are new here let me inform you of the rules here. Your in Triple Threat Triad territory, and were about to put you in the hospital." The leader said with a smile, the two siblings weren't amused as Kota began to slowly walk back, knowing this was a standoff.
"Your the only ones that are gonna need a hospital, and for your sake I hope theirs one nearby." Korra clenched her fists together, prepared to teach these criminals a lessons.
"Now just who do you think you are?"
"Why don't you come and find out?"
"Now this is the action I've been looking for."
It didn't take long for the Triple Threat Triad to make the first move, shady shin shooting out a stream of water only to have it bended back and frozen to his head. Korra kicked him to the side, and effortlessly dealt with his two henchman using their own elements against them. Practically tossing them around all over the area, causing a slight bit more damage.
"Now that was fun to watch, I was hoping to beat them myself but still..."
Despite not being able to help, Kota and Venom had watched Korra single handedly take down the three thugs. They didn't even have a clue of who they were dealing with as the siblings and Naga watched the thugs fall out of the car worn out.
They then heard the sounds of loud sirens coming above them, looking up to see a metal blimp was flying as Naga howled to the sirens. What came out were several men in suits as they shot out metal lines to guide themselves down.
"Whoa, those are metal benders."
"I've never seen them before in person." The siblings said as the group of metal benders arrived down to them, investigating the area.
"We've caught the bad guys officers." Korra showed the officers as they looked over to see dazed men walking out, still trying to comprehend what had happened.
"Arrest them!" One of the officers ordered as they were rounded up in metal lining.
"And you two under arrest too!" The officer pointed at the siblings who looked back in disbelief.
"Ok I was not expecting this."
"What do you mean I'm under arrest? Those are the bad guys!" Korra yelled.
"Yeah they threatening that old guy over there and smashing his shop!" Kota added as he pointed over to the shop they talked about.
"That's funny because it looks like you caused more damage than them." The officer shot a line of metal towards Kota until Korra caught it.
"Wait you can't arrest us let me explain!" Korra begged when Kota noticed his hand began to cover in black goo, beginning to panic.
"Venom no..." Kota said quickly gritting his teeth, hiding his exposed hand until it went to normal.
"You can explain all you would like down at headquarters." The officer retracted his metal line and shot it back at Korra, causing her to move back with Kota and backflip as the officer tried to go for her legs. This caused Naga to protectively charge and push the officer to the side as the siblings rushed to ride her. The other officers watched the situation, rushing to stop the escaping suspects as they rode off.
Kota turned to see one of them charged forward and raised his leg to push him off, but he didn't realize venom decided to help as his foot covered in the black goo. The officer was too late to react when Kota kicked his hardest, practically launching the officer back into his comrades as the they made their escape.
"Sheesh that was some kick Kota!" Korra said as Kota fake smiled, hoping he didn't hurt the officer too badly.
"Your welcome by the way!"
The siblings were avoiding the lines that were shot at them by the officers while they followed them across the streets and telephone lines. As the siblings crossed a bridge, one officer from a telephone line shot his metal line at Korra, catching her pony tail as she cried out. Kota reacted while she wasn't looking while Venom knew what was gonna happen, Kota's hand morphed into a larger but black hand, grabbing the line and jerking it down with such force it practically flung the officer down from the air. The officer screamed until he began to stumble across the ground, losing control of his line as it got loose from Korra's hair.
She turned to see the officer was trying to get up, wondering what had happened but Kota told her to focus ahead and agreed. Naga began to ride off until Korra had her jump onto a train right below them.
For a moment they had time to breath until the airship they had seen earlier was now following right above them, Korra knew they had to move now. Naga made a leap for it to another street but they didn't make it. The airship had caught them in midair, using as many metal lines as they could to catch Naga and then wrap up the siblings, leaving them no choice but to comply.
Korra and Kota were sadly at the police headquarters, cuffed to a metal table with nowhere to go. Naga was taken and put at the pound temporarily because she was animal, leaving the siblings by themselves. Eventually an older female officer had arrived in, starting to speak in a bold tone while she read off the clipboard.
"Let's see here... multiple accounts of the destructions of both private and city property, not to mention evading arrest." The female officer said, slamming it firmly onto the table almost startling the two siblings.
"You two are in whole mess of trouble."
"But their were some thugs threatening a helpless shopkeeper and I-"
"Can it, you should've called the police and stayed out of the way."
"But I can't just sit by and do nothing, it's my job to help people. You see, I'm the avatar and this is my brother Kota." Korra explained to the officer as she sat on the other side of the table.
"Oh Im aware of who you and your brother are. And your avatar title may impress some people but not me."
"Alright fine, then we want to talk to whoever is in charge."
"Your talking to her, I'm Chief Beifong." The siblings looked at each other, recognizing the name and asked back.
"Wait Beifong, Lin Beifong? Your Toph's daughter." Korra said.
"Yes, and your point is?" Chief Beifong asked.
"Why are you treating us like criminals then, your mother and Avatar Aang were friends. They saved the world together." Kota addressed.
"That was ancient history kid, and it's got diddly squat to do with how much trouble your in right now. You two can't just waltz in here and dole justice like you own the place. So if you don't mind, I got some questions for you two, especially from a couple officers that are about you Kota." Korra looked at Kota in disbelief on why her brother would be questioned, he was nonbender so what did he even do she thought. Chief Beifong luckily couldn't figure that out when another officer opened one of the walls beside them.
"Chief, Councilman Tenzin is here."
"Let him in." Kota sighed in relief while Korra seemed rather nervous to see Tenzin see them like this. The air bender walked in with a slight glare at the siblings.
"Tenzin, sorry but we kinda got sidetracked on our way to see you." Korra said, Tenzin sighed and looked at the Chief.
"Lin you are looking radiant as usual."
"Cut the garbage Tenzin, why is the Avatar in Republic City? Weren't you supposed to move down to the South Pole and train her?"
"My relocation was delayed, but the Avatar and her brother, will be heading back to the South Pole immediately. Where they will stay put..."
"If you could be so kind as to drop the charges on both of them, I will take full responsibility of today's turn of events and pay for the damages." The Chief took a moment to think and finally decided, releasing the cuffs from the siblings.
"Fine, get them out of my city."
"Thank you Lin, Korra, Kota, let's go." The siblings were walking away behind Tenzin, looking back the Chief as she glared back.
"Water tribe." Kota whispered, giving a glare back as did Korra leaving the Chief to sigh in her own frustration.
