Chapter 9: My First Halloween

Tonight was Halloween. It is also my first Halloween because Harry and I didn't celebrate the holidays back at the Dursleys. For Halloween, I dressed up as Ruby Rose from my favorite anime show, RWBY. I wore her costume from RWBY volume 1 which had a black skirt, black top, and a red cape and boots. I am in the Great Hall eating all the good desserts with my family and friends. The Great Hall was covered in floating jack-o-lanterns and all the food and sweets were Halloween themed. There was thunder and lightning outside which really helped set the mood to the theme. I kept looking at the doors for Hermione, hoping she would show up but she didn't.

Is she really that mad at me and Ron that she is now avoiding us? Damn, I really messed up big time. After the party I'll find her and apologize to her because I feel bad for how I treated her. Even though she can be bossy at times, she is a nice girl and I do want to be her friend. I was also worried because she did not show up to the rest of the classes which is not like her.

"What's wrong Lana?" Aunt Amy asked me. She must have noticed I have been feeling down. I try my best to hide my emotions whenever I'm around my family.

"I just feel bad for how I treated Hermione earlier," I said.

"It's okay. I'm sure she'll forgive her after you apologize to her." Aunt Amy said.

"Where's Hermione?" Harry asked.

"Parvati Patil said she wouldn't come out of the bathroom. She said that she had been in there all afternoon, crying." Nevill tells us. Harry looks at Ron, rasing his eyebrows at him. Ron just shrugs his shoulders, going back to eating his food. Just then the doors open and in comes a panicking Professor Quirrell. "Troll in the dungeon! Troll in the dungeon! Thought you ought to know."

Professor Quirrell faints after he finishes his sentence. When a bolt of lightning cracked, the students drop their food, and so did I and started screaming.

"Silence!" Professor Dumbledore yelled. The room stayed silent after that. "Everyone will please not panic. Now... Perfects will lead their house back to the dormitories. Teachers will follow me to the dungeons."

On that command, all the perfects were escorted and encouraged their house to move along as we walk out of the great hall, and the teachers leave and headed for the dungeons. My parents instructed me to stay close to them. "Gryffindors, keep up please, and stay alert," Percy said.

"How could a troll get in?" Emily asked.

"Not on its own. Trolls are really stupid. Probably people playing jokes." Ron said. Harry then grabs Ron and Ron turns around.

"What?" Ron said.

"Hermione. She doesn't know." Harry said.

"Oh no!" I cried. "Come on we have to help."

"Lana do not go after that troll." Shadow warns me. But I ignored him and followed Harry and Ron to the troll. My brother and sisters followed me as well. On the wall, we saw the shadow of a troll.

"I think the trolls left the dungeon," Ron said. Dash pulls me by the arm and we hid behind the pillar so it doesn't see us.

"It's going into the girl's bathroom," I said as we watch it walk inside. Oh please Hermione, be careful.

"Come on, let's go get her," Dash said. In the bathroom, Hermione was drying her eyes off from the tears. She looks up to see a giant troll standing in front of her. Hermione backs up and goes into one of the bathroom stalls and shuts the door. The troll swings his giant club, smashing all of the bathroom stall doors. Hermione lets out a loud scream and ducks down underneath the smashed wood and dust. Harry swings the doors open and we run into the girls bathroom.

"Hermione, move!" Harry yelled.

"Go, run!" Maria yelled. Hermione makes her move, crawling under the bathroom stalls. The troll makes his move again, swinging his club and smashing the remaining bathroom stalls. Hermione ducks and covers herself so the debree wouldn't hurt her.

"Help!" Hermione cried.

"We're coming, just hold on!" Emily called. We grabbed the broken pieces of wood from the stalls and began throwing them at the troll.

"Hey, pea brain!" Ron yelled, throwing another piece.

"Hey stupid over here!" I yelled at the troll also throwing another piece. Maria and I threw a Chaos Spear at the troll. Hermione finally manages to crawl out of the broken stalls. Unfortunately, the troll spots Hermione and swings his club down at Hermione. Hermione tries to hide under the sink but the troll smashes the sink. I was about to go rescue Hermione but I didn't realize the troll had wrapped his big ugly hand around me and lifted me up to him.

"Lana!" Maria cried as the troll brought me up to his face.

"Put me down you dumb troll!" I yelled as I punched him in the face which only angered him more. I know that might have been a bad choice but I had to get away somehow. Roaring in pain, the troll threw me to the ground. I thought I was going to make a horrible fall but instead, I heard a groan of pain and felt a pair of arms wrapped around me. I looked and saw it was my sister, Emily who caught me.

"Thanks, Emily," I said.

"Safe landing, huh? Are you okay?" Emily asked.

"Yeah," I said. Now we had to focus on our problem. The troll.

"Help!" Hermione yelled again. We looked around but what can we do? I barely know any spells since I am new to this wizard stuff. But I do have my powers. Without thinking, I did a spin dash, to the troll with my brother following behind me. Harry then takes out his wand and runs up to the troll grabbing a hold of the club as the troll raises it and Harry lands on his shoulder.

"Harry! What are you doing? Be careful!" I yelled. The troll begins to shake viciously. Harry was struggling to keep hold on the troll. Harry's wand gets stuck in the troll's nose. Ron and I exchanged disgusted looks.

"Ew." We both said. The troll shakes again but this time he grabs Harry's leg and holds him upside down.

"Do something!" Harry cried. The troll swung his club and Harry barely dodges it. Ron, Dash, Emily, Maria, and I frantically look around thinking of what to do. Ron shrugged his shoulders.

"What?" Ron called.

"Anything!" Harry shouts. The troll swings his club again and Harry barely dodges it. "Hurry up!"

Ron and I pull out our wands. "A swish and flick!" Hermione instructs us as she demonstrates with her hand.

"Okay, on three," Ron said to me. I gripped my wand tightly and prepared myself. "One, two, three!"

At three, Ron and I shout "Wingardiam Leviosa!" While doing a swish and flick as Hermione taught us. The club slips through the troll's hands and floats above him. The troll makes a swing only to realize the weapon is no longer in his hands. The troll slowly looks up just in time to see Ron and I releasing it which causes it to land on his head. "Yes! Way to go Lana and Ron!" Dash shouts as he jumps up and down with excitement. Ron smiled when he saw the sight.

"Cool." He said. The troll drops Harry and Harry lands hard on the ground. Harry quickly backs away as the troll begins to lose his balance and falls to the ground with a loud thud. The troll is knocked out cold. We slowly walked up to the troll.

"Is he dead?" Hermione asked.

"I don't think so. Just knocked out." Harry said.

"Are you okay Hermione?" Maria asked.

"Yes, I'm fine, thanks," Hermione said.

"Hermione. I never got the chance to apologize. I'm sorry for making fun of you and laughing earlier." I said, with my ears pinned down.

"It's okay Lana. I forgive you." Hermione said with a smile. I smiled and hugged Hermione as she hugged me back. Harry bends down and pulls out his wand from the troll's nostrils which are now covered in snot. I covered my mouth and gagged. I think I might actually be sick.

"Ugh. Troll boogies." Harry said. I leaned over in the sink and threw up. After I finished throwing up, the teachers, my parents, and Scourge came running in. Professor McGonagall gasped at the sight.

"Oh! Oh my Goodness! Explain yourselves, all of you!" Professor McGonagall shouted, pointing a finger at us.

"And you better have a good explanation." Shadow adds with a dark expression and his arms crossed.

"Dad I..." I began to say but I was lost.

"Well, what it is..." Ron started but was cut off by Hermione.

"It's my fault, Professor McGonagall," Hermione said. All of us look at each other with confusion. What is that girl doing?

"What? Miss. Granger?" Professor McGonagall asks.

"I went looking for the troll. I read about them and I thought I could handle it. But I was wrong. If Harry, Ron, Lana, Dash, Emily, and Maria hadn't found me... I'd probably be dead." Hermione explained.

"Be that as it may. It was an extremely foolish thing to do. I would have expected more rational behavior on your part and I am very disappointed in you Miss. Granger. Five points will be taken from Gryffindor for your serious lack of judgment." Professor McGonagall said. I put my head down in disappointment because we lost points. But Professor McGonagall looked at us and said, "As for you two gentlemen and you four pups... Well, I just hope you realize how fortunate you are. Not many first-year students could take on a fully grown mountain troll and live to tell the tale. Five points... Will be awarded to each of you... For sheer dumb luck."

We looked at each other and smiled. Who knew I would have gotten my first points by fighting a mountain troll? I just hope my parents are not upset with me.

"Come with me, Emily. Sonic, you too." Scourge orders them. Scourge looks at Shadow and gives him a glare. "Interfere with us and I hurt them more."

I couldn't do anything as I watched Scourge dragging Emily and Sonic out of the bathroom and into the hallways. Emily was crying and Sonic was begging him to let him go but Scourge wasn't listening. I still feel horrible for my mother that he was forced to marry such a cruel guy. I looked at my dad nervously and said, "Am I still in trouble?"

Shadow sighed. "No, I guess not since you saved someone's life. And did you apologize to Hermione?" Shadow asked.

"Yes, she apologized to me. We made up." Hermione said.

"Okay, good. Lana, you got to stop being so reckless and putting your life in danger." Shadow said. "Come on we should head back."

Shadow led us back to the Gryffindor common room. When we got back to the common room, I got ready for bed. What a crazy first Halloween this was.
