IMPORTANT HIKIGAYA HARUMI PERSONALITY
For those who are still confused about her personality, here's a rough idea of it:
On the surface, Harumi seems to be a nice, gentle, social and friendly girl who is almost always seen wearing a smile on her face and acting relaxed and confident even during a crisis. However, Harumi's true face is of someone that is Machiavellian and calculating, and more information about this will become available further into the series! And I'm sorry for the lack of pictures, I will draw her myself in the future when I have a free time from my work!
Thank you for the feedback on the previous chapter. I will reply to your comment as soon as I can find some free time. And just to clarify, Hachiman and his sister do attend the same elementary school in this fanfic.
Happy reading!
Hiratsuka POV
The bell rang for the second time, signaling that lunchtime was almost over. Some students who hadn't eaten anything yet dashed off to the school store, while others tidied up their desks and cleared their lunches from the table. As I watched, the time read 12:45 pm.
Today is Wednesday; she is probably still in the student council room.
I hurried up and made my way to the student council room before the lunchtime ended; when I reached there, I could hear someone still talking inside the room.
As I reached for the door handle, the door suddenly opened itself, and I collided with Shiromeguri-san who hadn't been paying attention to where she was going.
"Whoa! Shiromeguri, watch out, okay?" I tried to catch her from falling.
"Ah sensei, is there a reason why you visited the student council?"
"Yes, I'm looking for Hikigaya-san, is she here?"
"Ah, Harumi-san!" The girl exclaimed with great enthusiasm. "Harumi-san, Harumi-san, Hiratsuka Sensei is calling you." She said it with such energy, and her excitement was evident on her face.
"Ah sensei, I'll be done in a bit." She said as she started to finish up.
"Can Makoto-kun please ask the Judo Club why they frequently invite an alumnus to our school for the General Affairs? Also, kindly remind the U.G Club to participate in the upcoming club meeting."
"For general affairs please create a new announcement for all club to sent in their monthly finance report back by the end of the month."
"And lastly please for Meguri-senpai to go and report and talk to the dean school, about the preparation for this year festival."
"After you are done, please report back to Meguri-senpai. As for Meguri-senpai, you don't have to copy the approval right away; you just need to bring it to me via email, and that's all." After the meeting was over, everyone started going outside and returning to their classes.
"Then everyone thanks you for your hard work!" Shiromeguri said before going back to her own class, leaving us alone in the room.
"Hiratsuka-sensei, is there something I can help you with? Her smile remained on her face, but it always seemed to me that she didn't have any other expressions besides that, which made me sometimes feel uncomfortable around her.
"Ah, it's about your brother. I just made him join a club so that he could socialize a little bit." As I mentioned this to her, her expression remained unchanged, but the way her eyes looked at me seemed as if she were feeling angry towards me.
"As I said before, you don't have to do anything, Hiratsuka-sensei. Hachiman can take care of himself; he doesn't need any of your guidance."
"The problem is his personality; if you ignore it, he will struggle in the future."
"I will keep that in mind, but Hachiman has always fulfilled his role, even if his methods of solving things are sometimes unorthodox, but it's part of who he is." As I want to debuted against her she continues her opinion.
"As I said before ' You can't change people ideology by talking, the more effective way is to make them realise it', that way he will be more useful for me."
"Useful? What do you think my brother is? You don't even care that he will hurt himself in the future?" I know that what she speaks is the truth, and I know that it's right, but just because something makes sense doesn't mean you can't care about someone else's emotions.
"For that, you don't have to worry about that; I will make sure that it will never happen." As she said that she continues her work, as she doesn't want this conversation to continue.
This girl will not back down on anything and that is why I have to negotiate with her using my own logic.
"That is why I make him join Yukinoshita Club."
Her pens has stops moving, I can see from her expression that she seems surprised.
"Hmmmm Service Club huh, if i remember correctly Yukino-san did create a club to help student solve their problem. " as she started to ponder the situation and asked me.
"I see, I can see you still have the habit of putting two opposing people in the same room. I agree that their clashes might speed things up a little, and then what is your reason for reporting back to me?" I smirked a little as she took the bait.
"As you said yourself, I want you to watch over them; you don't need to join the club, but you can just stay there and give them a push in the right direction."
As I said that she started thinking about the whole situation, is it because there is only the two of us here that I'm starting to felling uncomfortable with the atmosphere, as the only sound that i can hear is form outside, as she finished thinking she looked up to me again.
"So that's how you want to play. Well done, but I need to mention you again that the Service Club is an experimental club. If I judge that the club can't get the results that I want, I will dissolve it as soon as possible."
"That is fine, that the gamble that i willing to take, if you want to let's go see them right now." As I said that she starting to clean up and then walking towards the doors, before she going outside she turn back and said.
"Honestly, Hiratsuka-sensei, I don't really care whether your plan is working or not, as long as it bears some results. However, there is a major flaw in your plan; if you start a conflict between two people who have different beliefs, there will always be someone who gets hurt. If I decide to save only Hachiman and abandon her, I hope you can take responsibility for it."
She said that without changing her expression; for the first time, I felt scared of someone who was younger than me. Many students at her age believed it was the time to go to many different places and create wonderful memories.
Whether that's a wrong thing to do or the right thing to do, because at the end of the day, someone's always going to be looking out for themselves.
What will happen to her then? For someone who doesn't realize that she is wrong, someone who sees others besides her family as tools and only cares about the end result, who will look after her?
As a teacher, the idea of her being like that for the rest of her life makes me sick. I just hope that they don't make the same mistake as I did.
Before I could say anything, she began walking away.
Hiratsuka POV
As we walked towards the clubroom we can hear them already started, as we in front of the door we can hear them more clearly, and decided to listen for about.
Harumi seems to take the que and also decided to listen for a bit, Yukinoshita continue to exchange the conversation.
"Now your practice conversation with an actual person is complete. If you can speak with a girl like me, you should be able to speak to most ordinary people" As her voice beamed with accomplishment. And then continue.
" Now with this wonderful memory in your heart, you'll have the strength to live your life alone" As I said face palm my self about the thing she said.
"Your solution to my problem is beyond bizarre."
"But that in and of itself isn't sufficient to satisfy the teacher's request... I have to address the root of the matter then... What if you quit school?"
I started panicking and decided to open the door before she speak something worse.
Yukinoshita. Sorry to interrupt."
"A knock..."
"Sorry sorry. i just here to bring someone to help, you can go in." As Harumi started to going inside the room.
"Hello Nice to see you again, Hachiman and Yukino-san."
Hikigaya Hachiman POV
"Nee-chan... " I was surprised to see that Hiratsuka-sensei managed to bring her over here.
"Harumi-san, you really don't have to come here. I thought you didn't like the idea of helping people to change...", Yukinoshita seems surprised as well.
"That's right; I still don't agree with the whole purpose of the club, but I still believe that you can fulfill your dream about changing how society works. And because of that, I decided to come and see it for myself, just think of it as sightseeing."
My sister just smiled a little and started looking back and forth between the two of us, and then said, "I'm glad you two seem to be getting along."
Why and from where did she get that idea?
As I was still confused about the whole situation, Hiratsuka-sensei seemed to notice and decided to ask.
"You seem to have a lot of questions for me right now. Is something bothering you?"
"There is something wrong with you! What do you mean by saying that you want to 'correct' me? You're making me sound like a delinquent! Why is my sister even here, and what the heck is up with this place anyway?" I demanded.
Hiratsuka-sensei hummed and put a hand to her chin as she thought.
"Yukinoshita didn't explain it to you? In short, the goal of this club is to resolve people's worries and problems. She brings students here who she believes are in need of help. And it's this club's job to try and resolve it." As she finished speaking, I still hadn't fully understood how this was fair as my punishment just because she didn't agree with my opinion that I wrote on my essay.
"Yukino-san, it appears that you have an issue with my brother."
"The problem is, he isn't even aware of his own issues," Yukinoshita replied.
"Um... you keep talking about change or transformation or whatever, but I don't really want that," I said.
"Oh?" My sister surprise as she tilted her head to the side.
"What do you mean? If you don't change, you won't fit into society when you enter it. From what I can see, you lack humanity. Do you have no desire to improve yourself?"
"That's not what I meant. Like...um...I'm saying I don't want others to talk about me and demand that I need to change. If I change only because someone told me to, then that person wouldn't even be me."
"Then you're just running away. You can't move forward if you don't change." As she said that i starting to get irritated.
"What's wrong with running? You keep saying 'Change, change!' like an idiot who only knows one word. What will you do next? Say something obvious like 'daytime' and 'nighttime'? But since you prefer nighttime, you're going to keep bothering everyone and say, 'Nighttime is the best!'?"
"That's just nonsense. Don't try to shift the conversation."
"It was obviously a metaphor! If you call that nonsense, then what you have been saying is nonsense, too! In the end, I would only be changing to escape reality. Who's the one running now? Why run away when you can accept yourself!"
"You can only said that because you have your sister who alwa-"
"Could both of you quiet down?" My sister cut off Yukinoshita argument with a higher level voice, calming the stormy atmosphere.
"Hachiman, you need to think before you speak; that's not the way our parents taught us how to talk to someone else." She continued.
"Yukino-san, you'll have to keep your anger in check, Yukino-san used to be an exchange student outside of Japan, so that's probably why she has the talent for making arguments, but also gets worked up pretty easily." When I looked at Yukinoshita, I could tell that she wanted to deny it, but eventually decided to remain silent.
"Perhaps, you are still not prepared to pursue your dreams after all."
"But that's, that is wrong... " She could only grip her body with her hand, taking a defensive stance as if my sister was scratching something important to her. That is what I don't like about my sister; she always finds a hole in someone else's ideology.
For the longest time, my sister never got shook by other people's ideologies; she always seemed to agree with them, but never approved of them. For her, the result and end product are everything, and that's how she managed to get so far.
And if someone tries to get in her way, she just finds a way to make them agree that her ideals about how she runs things are correct. She never really gets into any heated disagreements with anyone because from the very start, she never even expects anything from them, not even from us, her own family.
"Calm down, all of you." I looked at Hiratsuka-sensei face, and she was honestly grinning and joyful. She looked like she was having fun.
"This has gotten entertaining. I love developments like this. It's almost like Shonen Jump!" She thought, smiling widely as if she were a little boy who had just discovered his favorite manga series.
"Uh... what are you talking about?" I replied, but she wasn't listening.
"So, let's do this. You'll be guiding the lost lambs that come to you. Save them according to your own principles. Who can serve others the best? And as a reward, how about the winner being able to order the loser to do anything they want?"
"Anything?!" Anything means anything, you know that right? Gulp.
Yukinoshita took two steps back and assumed a defensive position.
"Because he is my competitor, I feel threatened by his actions and therefore I refuse."
"That's prejudice! Not all boys always thinking obscene thoughts!" I'm thing a lots of there thing! Like world peace? Yeah... we're not thinking of much else.
"Don't worry about it that is why I bring his sister here to oversee the whole thing, or Are afraid of losing?" Hiratsuka-sensei asked.
Yukinoshita looked a little sullen. "Fine, I find it annoying to give in to such cheap provocation, but I will accept your challenge."
"And what about you, Harumi?"
"Honestly, I don't really know who the winner is, but what I want you to see is both of you working well together. Can you show me that?"
My sister replied, as my sister just decided to just let thing happens first
"Yes... Of course." That was fast, which made it scary. Why does someone like Yukinoshita want my sister's approval? Did something happen between them in the past?
"So, it's settled," the teacher smiled smugly.
As I started to realize that no one asked me what I wanted.
