Chapter 11: Poor Wall

Max PoV

I stumbled back, releasing Jessica. She slid to the floor, still staring at me. I stared back, horrified by what I had just done. I was breathing heavily. I glanced at my hands. They were shaking.

My legs gave way underneath me and I fell to my knees. I was still staring at my hands.

"I'm so sorry." It was all I could say, "I'm so, so sorry."

Jessica got slowly to her feet and backed away. She stumbled and someone caught her.

"Okay, everyone. I think you should all just go and get changed."

I didn't look up from my hands as I heard shuffling feet. I could feel eyes on me as the class filed out but I still didn't look up. Until, that is, someone knelt in front of me, taking my still shaking hands in their own.

I raised my eyes to Fang's face, expecting him to be infuriated. He wasn't.

He gazed at me. A soft, even understanding look. It was wrong. I wanted him to be angry with me. To yell at me. To hit me.

I took a peek at the people left in the hall. Edward, Alice, Jasper, Bella and Emmett were all watching me with what could only be described as concern. Rosalie, on the other hand, was looking at me like I had grown two heads. I turned my gaze back to Fang.

"Ari's not a monster," I whispered, "I am."

"No," His one little word wasn't going to change my mind.

"I am. I wanted to hurt her. Badly."

Fang sighed and wrapped his arms around me, pulling me close.

"She provoked you," He whispered into my hair.

"So? I wanted to rip her to pieces."

"But you didn't," I looked up at the new voice. Bella was sitting on the floor next to us. She put her hand on my shoulder, "You didn't hurt anyone, well except the wall."

I took a quick look at the damage I had done.

"That poor wall," I said, managing to smile slightly.

"Are your knuckles alright? I don't expect the wall to let you off Scot free," I recognised the voice. It was the same one to tell my classmates to leave. It came from Jasper.

I held out my fist, inspecting it. There was not a scratch on it. I saw Edward's eyebrows shoot up.

"May I?" Alice stepped forward.

I nodded and she reached out, taking my hand gently in both of hers. I blinked; her hands were freezing. She moved my hand carefully, like Iggy would do.

"It's not even hurt a tiny bit," She sounded shocked. I'm not surprised.

"Hey, do you wanna arm wrestle?" Edward rolled his eyes at Emmett's question.

I opened my mouth to reply but was interrupted as the doors burst open and a small blonde thing crashed into me, sending me sprawling across the gym floor.

"Max! Max! Max!" The thing was lying on top of me, I couldn't breath. It looked up at me with innocent blue eyes. Angel, "How could she say that? He wasn't a monster. Oh no, Max! You're not a monster. I'm sure the wall will forgive you if you apologise nicely."

I couldn't help smiling, more strongly this time. I felt better as I met her earnest gaze.

"You're right, of course," With that I pushed her off me and went to stand in front of the wall, "Mr. Wall, I'm terribly sorry that I punched you. I realise you did nothing wrong. I hope you accept my humble apology. Fang will you please smack my wrist?"

I held out my arm and Fang got up and gently tapped my wrist. Angel and me grinned, and I swear I saw the side of his mouth twitch.

"Hey, where's Tiff and James?" I asked.

"They're waiting at the front office for us. They don't know what happened." Angel was skipping along between Fang and me, holding on to both our hands. Every once in a while we would swing her as we made our way out of the hall and through the car park.

"We'll see you guys tomorrow," Emmett called.

"Actually no we won't. it's sunny tomorrow and we're going backpacking," Alice corrected him. I saw Bella's face fall slightly, "Bella, you're coming."

Bella smiled and got into the silver Volvo with the rest of the family piling in after her.

We walked into the fornt office to see Nudge and Iggy standing, worried looks on their faces. Nudge saw me first. Well, duh! Iggy's blind.

"Oh my God! Max! Are you okay? I just heard wh-"

"What do you mean is she okay?"

I turned to see a girl standing at the Nurse's door, shooting daggers at me. I ignored her, I couldn't cope with much more today. I dumped my signed sheet in the basket with Nudge and Iggy's and walked out the door.

We all walked home in silence, even Nudge. As soon as I got in I went straight to my room and shut the door behind me. Now I could get my anger out.

I grabbed all the covers and pilows from my bed and threw them at the window. Then I took a book and ripped all the pages out. Next I took my bedside light, smaching it against the wall. I shoved everything off my desk. I kicked it, then my wardrobe. Big mistake.

The wardrobe retaliated, falling over. I threw myself to the floor, out of it's way. It made a huge crash, the door flying open and nearly hitting me on the head.

I heard a shout from downstairs, followed by pounding footsteps. My door was thrown open and Fang ran in the room, taking a quick look around. His eyes fell on me. He ran over and pulled me up into a sitting position. The rest of the Flock stood in the doorway, mouths open, gawping at the mess.

"Fang, I-" But I couldn't finish. Instead I started bawling like a baby.

Fang didn't say anything. He just held me close as I cried my eyes out. I felt myself getting drowsy.

I wasn't even aware of Fang picking me up and carrying me through to a different room. I just felt myself being placed on something incredibly soft before I fell into the world of my worst fears.
