Emily laid on the bed her wedding dress finally on and her hair and makeup done. This was it. She was committing to spend the rest of her life with Ian Doyle. It wasn't the first time she'd considered the possibility, but it had always seemed like a dream; something just out of the realm of possibility.
There was a quiet knock on the door, she ignored it, staring up at the Spanish laced ceiling. She heard the door open, and closed her eyes, "Ian you're not supposed to see the bride before the wedding and you're so not getting laid in this dress." She said.
"Uh, it's me, Spencer." Came a quiet voice.
She sat up, turning around, "Oh, hey Reid, what's up?" She asked blushing.
"I, uh, I wanted to talk to you before the ceremony." He said sitting down on the floor indian-style.
"Uh, yeah sure, what's wrong? Everything okay?" She asked concernedly.
"You're happy right?" He said looking down at his fingers.
"Yeah, I mean it's been rough lately but I mean, I'm happy with my life if that's what you're asking…" She said, sliding off the bed to sit in front of him. "Reid, what's up? You're acting weird."
"I—I just wanted to make sure you were happy, and you know, that this is what you wanted," he said quietly, looking her in the eye.
"Reid, I know this is unconventional, and probably wrong on a lot of different levels. And I know you weren't fooled by the whole twin story. I mean, yeah, he did have a twin, but you know who he is, I know you knew," She said picking at her fingernails.
"And you love him?" Reid asked, forehead wrinkling.
Emily let out a deep breath, bangs fluffing on her forehead. "Yeah, I do…" She said, returning his gaze. "I never meant to, all those years ago. I thought I was a better compartmentalizer, but you know, you can't help you fall in love with. I always thought I could move on, afterwards… but it just never was the same, I never felt the same for anyone else. He's always been the one, you know?" She said tilting her head in deep thought.
"Yeah, I mean, I can't really relate, but I get it, sort of." Reid replied giving her a small smile. "Ummm well, I mean, I really just came with Garcia, because I wanted to make sure you were safe and you know, happy. You're like the big sister I never had, so… you know," He said almost sadly.
"Ohh, Spence…" Emily said leaning forward to hug him. "I'm just so happy you came, it means so much to me that someone actually, well cares…" She whispered.
"Well, Garcia said that your dad isn't coming, so I was just wondering if you had anyone to walk you down the aisle," Reid said, shrugging.
Emily couldn't hold it back any longer as the tears began to drop down her face slowly. "Spencer Reid, I—I would be honored to have you walk me down the aisle," she stammered happily. She threw herself into him again, tears streaming down her face.
"The honor is all mine, Em" Reid said patting her back.
She pulled away wiping her tears delicately to avoid smearing her makeup. "Alright, well you'd better get down there, I think the shows about to start," She said, giving him a kiss on the cheek.
"See you in a bit," Spencer said standing, holding a hand to help her up.
The door opened again, Garcia coming in, "Are you almost ready Em? I think—"She stopped at the sight of the two of them.
"Yeah, I think we're ready, Garcia," Emily said, straightening her flowy gown and smiling.
"Awww, Reid did you ask her?" Garcia said clapping her hands happily.
"Yeah," he said looking back at Emily and smiling.
Garcia squealed in excitement running over to hug Emily.
"Okay guys, stop! You're going to make me cry again!" Emily said in protest.
Ian stood up by the little gazebo they had in the backyard, for the first time since he'd met her, he had butterflies in his stomach. This was it. He'd never expected to ever see this day in his wildest imagination. He was finally going to marry a woman he truly loved, a strong, beautiful, caring, amazing woman. Emily Prentiss was going to marry him, and he'd never felt happier in his entire life.
The music started and the guests stood, the back door opened and out stepped Emily. She looked breathtaking and he felt like crying. Dr. Reid escorted her down the makeshift aisle the girls had created with white flower petals on the grass. After what seemed like the longest moment of his life she was standing next to him. Her eyes were red and he knew she was as emotional as he was and he felt a wave of relief flood over him.
Declan stood behind him, in a matching khaki suit. He looked so grown up and it felt like it was just yesterday he was four years old climbing around on the floor playing hide and seek with "Lauren". Ian winked at him and Declan grinned. He looked just as excited as Ian felt.
The Catholic priest from the church around the corner began the ceremony as Ian held Emily's hand, giving it a small squeeze. He smiled, her brown eyes twinkling. Shortly, they were asked to exchange vows. Ian took a deep breath, he hadn't written anything, he wanted everything he said to come from his heart and honestly… This was a new leaf for him and he had another child on the way. This was the dream for him.
"Emily Prentiss, I knew from the moment I met you in Boston, that you were… special. There are no words to describe the love I have for you. I know I've made many, many mistakes, I haven't always been a gentleman, I haven't always held you on the pedestal you deserve. I vow, with every fiber of my being for the rest of my existence to be the man you deserve. I will never let you down, put you down, I vow to cherish you for the rest of my life… and the next." He said, a tear springing to his eye.
Emily began to cry as he slid a platinum necklace exactly like the gold one he'd given her before, over her shiny straightened hair.
She took a deep breath to steady her voice, before she spoke, "Ian, you are the most… difficult, shady, stubborn man to love." She began. He chuckled as she squeezed his hands, she apparently was winging her vows too. But she was not wrong, he was a hard man to love, and he knew it. "But, despite your flaws, you are the most wonderful, memorable man I've ever known. We were apart for a long time, and I can honestly say, that as much as I tried not to, not a day went by that I didn't wish you were still with me, and I will forever regret the lying and deceit that I did that tore us apart. I vow to stand by you, and love you, even when you are not yourself, when you push me away, when we fight and when times are tough I will never, ever walk away from us again. Forever and for always." She said choking up as the tears rained down her cheeks. Ian wanted to kiss her so badly at that moment, but she took his hand and shakily slid a silver band engraved with "Is liomsa mo ghrá" Gaelic, for "My beloved is mine" on the inside.
Finally after what seemed like an eternity the priest pronounced them husband and wife, Ian did not hesitate for a second before placing his hands on her face and pulling her close, kissing her like it was the first time. The guests cheered and clapped, Lauren held by Garcia behind Emily squealed in excitement at the commotion saying, "Mommy! Mommy!" clapping her tiny hands together.
They finally came up for air and turned to face the small crowd of guests and held their hands up together. Matt hollered from next to Declan, "LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, MR. AND MRS. O'REILLY!"
They walked down the aisle together as the opening of "We Owned the Night" began to play loudly.
Emily blushed as guest after guest came to congratulate them, some of whom she barely knew, most were friends of Ian's from work and some of Declan's best friends and families had been invited.
"Hey, sexy, are you ready to eat?" Misty came up to her, "The pizza just got here."
Emily groaned, "Ughh thank god, Im starving!"
"Did you ever tell Ian, what you'd ordered for the reception?" Misty whispered conspiratorially.
"No, and right now I could not give a damn less, because I haven't eaten since yesterday." Emily said adamantly. Ian was going to have a conniption fit, but he'd already gotten his way with the stupid Catholic priest she'd protested against, so he could just deal with pizza and an open bar, thanks to Izzy and Matt. This was her wedding and she wanted simple. Pizza Hut was simple enough and she didn't have to cook it so it was good enough for her.
"Emily? Everything okay?" Ian said waltzing up to her, looking dashing in his khaki suit with an emerald green silk shirt unbuttoned at the top. She grinned, he always looked so handsome it was unfair to the rest of the world, especially with that damn accent.
"Yeah, everything's great the food just got here," she said.
"Great, what's for dinner, love?" He said chuckling, wrapping an arm around her waist.
"Pizza."
"Very funny, no, seriously I'm starving." He said looking around, "Ohh Christ, You didn't…"
"Yes, I did. It was inexpensive, nothing fancy, and everyone loves pizza, and you will eat it with a fucking smile, got me?" She said through gritted teeth, smiling as guests waved and greeted them.
Ian sighed, "Fine, happy?" he said plastering a fake smile on his face.
"Very," She said, kissing him quickly.
"Good, that's what I aim for," he said teasingly.
"Alright ladies and gentlemen, it's time for Auburn's sexiest couple to take the dance floor!" Izzy called over the microphone. Emily took the hand Ian offered her, and let him lead her to the middle of the backyard they'd designated as the "dance floor." The music began to play, it was a quiet, slow song that they'd picked together.
When the rain comes it seems that everyone has
gone away
When the night falls you wonder if you shouldn't
find someplace…
"You know how long I've waited for this moment, Love?" Ian said face mere centimeters away from hers.
"Yeah, I think I do…" She said quietly, smiling.
I can't stop the rain
From falling down on you again
I can't stop the rain
But I will hold you 'til it goes away
"I love you, Ian."
"I will always love you, Cher"
"Good," she said kissing him gently. The crowd aww'ed and clapped for them as the last line of the song played, "When the rain comes, I will hold you…"
